International audience; Many studies illustrate the increasing power of financial officers in organisations, as related to a universal and inevitable process of financialisation. Through an ethnographic study, we tried to analyse concrete impacts on daily practices of this trend. We showed that the trajectory of financialisation was influenced by a competition between professional groups. In the same time, its seeming universality is used to legitimate claims made by a group of actors. We thus try to show how management controllers and their devices play the role of smugglers of financialisation, without neglecting adaptation and compromise, local and contextual, necessary to make it enter the daily practices of an organisation; De nombreuses études illustrent une montée en puissance de la fonction financière dans les organisations, qui traduirait un processus de financiarisation universel et inéluctable. Par une étude ethnographique, nous avons tenté d'analyser les impacts concrets sur les pratiques quotidiennes de gestion de cette tendance. Nous avons alors montré que la trajectoire de la financiarisation était influencée par la compétition qui s'instaure entre groupes professionnels dans les organisations. En retour, son apparente universalité peut être utilisée pour légitimer les arguments de certains acteurs au détriment des autres. Nous montrons donc dans ce papier comment les contrôleurs de gestion et leurs dispositifs jouent le rôle de passeurs de la financiarisation, sans négliger les adaptations et compromis, locaux et contextuels, nécessaires pour la faire entrer dans les pratiques concrètes d'une organisation.

Based on an ethnographic study, this paper analyzes hidden activities in management controllers' practice. We show that, while they wish to appear as business partners, they do not "sell" themselves to managers. On the contrary, they adopt avoidance strategies, intending to delegate or dissimulate the tasks they consider as impure, that is to say those that constitute their "dirty work". We argue that management accountants' feelings about their job shape control processes within the organisation., À partir d'une étude ethnographique, nous analysons les pratiques occultées de contrôleurs de gestion. Nous montrons que,souhaitant s'identifier à des consultants internes, ils ne vont pas chercher à " se vendre " auprès des managers. Au contraire, ils adoptent une stratégie d'évitement, tentent de déléguer, ou de dissimuler, les tâches qu'ils considèrent comme impures et qui constituent leur sale boulot. Le rapport des contrôleurs à leur travail, leur choix d'orienter l'attention vers certains phénomènes plutôt que d'autres, influencent les pratiques de contrôle dans l'organisation.

International audience; Profit manipulation has been largely studied through Positive Accounting Theory (PAT). However, the weakness of the results obtained would suggest using different theoretical and methodological approaches to examine this subject. In France, management controllers play a central role in profit manipulation. This paper offers a comprehensive analysis of their profit manipulation practices. Using results from 32 interviews in 13 companies, we argue that the spread of Anglo-Saxon corporate governance model has fostered such behaviour. Far from the opportunism hypothesis supported by Positive Accounting Theory, profit manipulation is used as a tool by management controllers to gain broader legitimacy within organisations and/or to adopt what they claim to be ethical behaviour.
