Despite the well-known long-term negative effects of school bullying, there is notable lack of research on the positive changes resulting from bullying, including perceptions of personal growth. This mixed methods study was designed to advance current understanding of negative and positive changes of school bullying in former victims. Specifically, it investigated post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms (PTSD), mental resilience and post-traumatic growth (PTG) in former victims. Three-hundred thirty-six young adults who were former victims of school bullying completed questionnaires on retrospective experiences of school bullying, PTSD symptoms, mental resilience, and PTG. For the qualitative part, 10 participants took part in a semi-structured interview. All data were collected online. Qualitative data have been subsequently analyzed through thematic analysis with a phenomenological orientation. Quantitative results indicated that co-existence of multiple forms of bullying as well as victimization in secondary school and stable victimization were associated with higher levels of PTSD [F(5,330) = 6.96, η2 =.10, p <.05 and F(3,333) = 13.18, η2 =.07, p <.05, respectively]. They also showed that both PTSD (B =.41, p <.001) and mental resilience (B =.50, p =.001) were predictors of PTG. In qualitative data, benefits (e.g. new life paths and possibilities, appreciation of life) coexisted with negative consequences (e.g. stress, flashbacks, interpersonal difficulties, withdrawal). Kendo practitioners who engage in daily mental training may experience a disparity between their subjective perception of exertion and the actual physiological load on their bodies. Methods: Fifteen healthy adult female kendo practitioners were recruited as participants. Participants were asked to report levels of exertion using the Ratings of Perceived Exertion (RPE) during a progressive, load-incremented stress test. The participants’ heart rate at the time of reporting RPE13, which is considered a “somewhat hard” level of exertion, as well as heart rate at the anaerobic threshold (AT) to measure actual load, were compared to the maximum heart rate measurement obtained during the test. Results: The participants’ heart rates at RPE13 were found to be higher than those at AT, based on their values as percentages of maximum heart rates. Conclusion: This study discovered that kendo practitioners engaged in regular mental training exhibited a higher heart rate at “somewhat hard” exertion (RPE13) compared to the anaerobic threshold (AT), indicating a relative increase in RPE. Additional research is necessary to determine if this effect is attributable to mental training.

Objective To intervene in the process of the information epidemic s impact on public anxiety through a mediated model with moderation, and to explore the relationship between information epidemic and anxiety and its mechanism of action, with a view to better solving the difficulties it poses, eliminating the atmosphere of public anxiety shrouded by the information epidemic under the public health emergencies, and further stifling the possibilities of the generation of social risk crises. Methods Using a combination of convenience sampling and snowball samplings 1 580 valid questionnaires were surveyed nationwide, and descriptive statistical analyses, regression analyses, and mediated moderated effects analyses were conducted. Results Information epidemic had a positive predictive effect on anxiety level (仔二 0. 14, P < 0. 001), mental toughness partially mediated the relationship between information epidemic and anxiety level 0, 30 (95% CI: 0, 10 一 0. 52), with the indirect effect accounting for 15. 4 % of the total effect; and education level played a moderating role in the second half of the pathway of the aforementioned mediation model (仔二 一 0. 36, P < 0. 001). Condusion In the context of public health emergencies, it is recommended to improve the publics mental toughness and education level to mitigate the adverse impacts of information outbreaks, and then reduce the negative emotions of public anxiety. Objective: The family environment has a significant impact on the psychological and behavioral development of children, especially those who are left behind in preschool and experience parent-child separation at a young age. These children face a greater risk of family dysfunction, which can lead to internalizing and externalizing problem behaviors. While numerous studies have established a connection between family functioning and problem behaviors, few have explored the underlying mechanisms driving this relationship. Our study seeks to address this gap by examining how emotion regulation and psychological resilience mediate the link between family functioning and problem behavior. Methods: The sample consisted of 940 preschool children (51.5% male, 48.5% female) with a mean age of 5.07 ± 0.80. The main guardians of the children were given the Family Assessment Device, Preschool Children's Emotion Regulation Scale, the Devereux Early Childhood Assessment for Preschoolers (2nd edition), and the Social Skills Improvement System-Rating Scales to assess their family functioning, emotion regulation, psychological resilience, and problem behavior respectively. Results: Lower family functioning was associated with more severe problem behaviors in preschool left-behind children, and emotion regulation and psychological resilience partially mediated the relationship between family functioning and problem behaviors, respectively. In addition, emotion regulation and psychological resilience were also chain mediators between family functioning and problem behaviors. Conclusion: The study's findings highlighted the crucial role of emotional regulation and psychological resilience in the correlation between family functioning and problem behaviors. It is recommended that policymakers and educators place a high priority on the cultivation of internal psychological resources, such as emotional regulation and resilience, in preschool-aged children when designing interventions to address problem behaviors. Mental toughness is characterized by a collection of psychological resources that empower individuals to persevere in the presence of challenges, errors, and setbacks, allowing them to attain elevated levels of performance notwithstanding the inherent challenges in competitive scenarios. The aim of the present study was to delve into the current knowledge of the mental toughness construct and its relationship with intolerance to uncertainty in a sample of 121 male football players aged 18 to 40 years (M = 24.38, SD = 5.36), belonging to the top categories of Argentine soccer. A negative correlation was found between mental toughness and intolerance to uncertainty. Furthermore, it was observed that older and more experienced players exhibited higher levels of mental toughness and lower intolerance to uncertainty. This research aimed to explore the disparities in mental resilience levels among veteran tennis players concerning age, gender, and weekly training frequency. The survey method was employed, utilizing a survey technique as part of the screening process. The study involved 358 volunteer veteran tennis players, with 85 females and 273 males, who completed the mental resilience scale. The "Sports Mental Resilience Scale" and a researcher-prepared personal information form were used. The scale showed good reliability with Cronbach's Alpha coefficients of 0.81 for Confidence, 0.74 for Persistence, and 0.71 for Control. Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS 26.0. Normal distribution was confirmed through Skewness, Kurtosis values, and the Levene Test. Parametric tests, such as Independent Sample T Test and One Way ANOVA, were used when significant differences emerged between groups. The Scheffe test was applied to identify the sources of differences. Results revealed no statistically significant difference in average mental resilience scores based on gender (p>0.05). However, significant differences were found in Confidence and Persistence sub-dimensions based on age (p<0.05), as well as in the Confidence subdimension and total scores based on weekly training frequency (p<0.05). In summary, this study investigated the relationship between mental resilience levels and variables like gender, age, and weekly training frequency among veteran tennis players. The coronavirus pandemic is a global health crisis and the biggest challenge of our time. The aim of the study was to compare the perceived threat of COVID-19, self-assessed physical health, and mental resilience among some social categories vulnerable to stress during the COVID-19 pandemic, such as 67 people diagnosed with mental disorders and healthy people (67 healthcare specialists, 67 professionals in the areas of economy, education, law or IT, and 67 athletes). Age advance (r(266) = −227, p < 001) and perception of COVID-19 as a bigger threat (r(266) = −270, p < 001) were related to worsened self-assessed physical health. Higher mental resilience was accompanied by better physical health (r(266) =.190, p = 002). The people with mental disabilities had the lowest level of mental resilience (p = 034) and self-assessed their physical health as the poorest (p = 040). The healthcare specialists perceived COVID-19 as a threat in the highest degree (p = 011). The current study investigated the effect of distress tolerance on the relation between stress mindset and anxiety. It was hypothesised that a stress-is-enhancing mindset is associated with lower levels of anxiety because individuals with this mindset are more prone to tolerate distress, while a stress-is-debilitating mindset is associated with higher levels of anxiety because individuals with this mindset are less prone to tolerate distress. The study design was cross-sectional and descriptive (N=104). A Preacher and Hayes mediation analysis was conducted to test the hypotheses. The bootstrap sample was elevated to 5,000 to reach sufficient power for the statistical analyses. In sum, the findings of the current study supported both hypotheses. The effect of both a stress-is-debilitating mindset and a stress is- enhancing mindset on anxiety was mediated by distress tolerance. Correspondingly, the current study indicated that distress tolerance can explain varying levels of anxiety and is a major indicator in determining the influence of stress mindset on anxiety. The study delves into assessing the influence of mindfulness and mental resilience training on the cognitive performance and stress management of pilots. Employing a meticulous literature search across databases such as Medline and Google Scholar, the study used specific keywords to target a wide array of studies. Inclusion criteria were stringent, focusing on peer-reviewed studies in English that utilized designs like randomized controlled trials, with a specific interest in interventions related to mindfulness or mental resilience training for pilots, and measured outcomes pertaining to cognitive performance and stress management. The initial literature search identified a pool of 123 articles, with subsequent screening resulting in the exclusion of 77 based on title and abstract. The remaining 54 articles underwent a more rigorous full-text screening, leading to the exclusion of 41. Additionally, five studies were selected from the World Health Organization’s clinical trials database. A total of 11 articles from meta-analyses were retained for examination, underscoring the study’s dedication to a meticulous and robust inclusion process. The interventions varied widely, incorporating mixed approaches, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) based, and mindfulness-based techniques. The analysis uncovered positive effects across these interventions. Specifically, mixed interventions demonstrated a Standardized Mean Difference (SMD) of 0.54, CBT-based interventions showed an SMD of 0.29, and mindfulness-based interventions exhibited an SMD of 0.43. Long-term effects at a 6-month follow-up suggested sustained impacts for both mindfulness-based (SMD: 0.63) and CBT-based interventions (SMD: 0.73), albeit with notable heterogeneity. In conclusion, this meta-analysis highlights the affirmative influence of resilience interventions on pilots’ cognitive performance and stress management. The diverse approaches and sustained effects underscore the potential advantages of integrating mindfulness and mental resilience training into pilot training programs. Sensitivity analyses, along with an acknowledgment of potential biases, augment confidence in the findings, offering valuable insights to the realms of aviation and mental resilience research. College students have a high prevalence of nomophobia. However, research on the effects of emotion regulation and resilience on nomophobia in China is lacking. This research investigated how cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression strategies directly and indirectly affect nomophobia through resilience. Therefore, from March to May 2023, 756 university student volunteers (21.4 % men) were selected from a university in northeastern China for a questionnaire survey. Our findings suggest that college students' resilience has a masking effect on the relationship between cognitive reappraisal and nomophobia and can attenuate the negative effect of the frequency of using cognitive reappraisal strategies on nomophobia. The frequency of expressive suppression strategies directly and positively affected nomophobia. Early psychological interventions targeting resilience might be potentially effective in alleviating nomophobia among college students.

Objectives The aim of the study was to explore the relationship between mental resiliency and the sense of self-efficacy of public administration employees and to determine the levels of both analysed variables. This study also focuses on employees’ readiness for remote working. Material and methods The study used The General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES) created by R. Schwarzer and M. Jerusalem, adapted by Z. Juczyński, which was developed on the basis of A. Bandura's concept of self-efficacy. The Resiliency Assessment Scale - SPP-25 by N. Ogińska-Bulik and Zygfryd Juczyński was administered to measure resiliency. The study also employed a self-constructed survey on remote working readiness. The sample consisted of 515 employees of public administration. Results The results showed that there is a high correlation between the sense of general self-efficacy and mental resiliency and its five dimensions. The surveyed public administration employees are characterized by high levels of both mental resiliency and a sense of general self-efficacy. Employees, despite having short experience of remote work, exhibit great flexibility in adapting to changes in the mode of work (from remote to stationary and vice versa). They also show readiness to work in hybrid model, which is important in the context of dynamic changes in the labor market . Conclusions The study has both a theoretical and practical dimension. Self-efficacy is strongly related to mental resiliency and these are the resources that can be learned and developed. Fostering mental resiliency and a sense of self-efficacy can contribute to effective coping with changes in the professional context, especially in remote working conditions, and improve the quality of life and mental well-being of employees (Saini & Roulet, 2022, s. 5-6).

The climate crisis, loss of biodiversity and increasing global pollution are a threat to mental health. Comprehensive transformations are needed to overcome these crises, which will also affect the mental healthcare system. If done correctly these change processes can seize the chance to improve mental health while at the same time addressing the crises. This includes avoiding the need for psychiatric treatment by strengthening the focus on mental health promotion and prevention, and also considering environmental aspects when targetting therapy procedures. In addition, by focusing on nutrition, mobility and the effects of nature, patients can be empowered to increase their mental resilience whilst reducing the negative effects on the environment. At the same time, the mental healthcare system must adapt to changing environmental conditions: increasing heat waves make protective measures necessary, especially for people with mental illnesses and increasing extreme weather events can lead to shifts in the spectrum of illnesses. This study investigates the construct of sisu, a Finnish attribute representing mental resilience and fortitude when confronted with difficult situations. By leveraging advanced analytical methods and explainable Artificial Intelligence, we gain insights into how sisu factors influence well-being, work efficiency, and overall health. We investigate how the beneficial aspects of sisu contribute significantly to mental and physical health, satisfaction, and professional accomplishments. Conversely, we analyze the harmful sisu and its adverse impacts on the same domains. Our findings, including intriguing trends related to age, educational level, emotional states, and gender, pave the way for developing tailored solutions and initiatives to nurture the beneficial aspects of sisu and curtail the damaging consequences of sisu within professional settings and personal welfare.

AbstractThe primary objective of this paper is twofold; firstly, to analyse the relationship between metacognitive strategies and learning performance. Secondly, a new mediator is proposed, namely digital literacy. Mental resilience is an omnitemporal skill that enables individuals to gain resilience thinking to successfully adapt to life tasks. Although Researchers accentuate that metacognitive competency is necessary and crucial in enhancing mental resilience, research on inculcating resilience thinking through metacognitive skills is still undeveloped and warrants the urgent attention of the research community. Data was gathered from a cross-sectional study of 563 university students. To accomplish the goals of the research, data were analysed empirically utilising the variance-based partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) technique. The results revealed that learning performance was not significantly directly impacted by metacognition. This may be due to the fact that metacognitive strategies are used to help students to increase academic performance as opposed to learning capacity. However, through the mediation analysis, it was discovered that digital literacy was proven to be an effective mediator to promote learning performance. These new insights can assist academics to reflect and evaluate current practices to cultivate metacognitive practices in the classroom without having to alter the subject curriculum.

The current paper presents a review of the literature on Emotional Intelligence (EI) and its models. The aim is to review three renowned models commonly used in the field of EI, namely the Four-branch model by Mayer and Salovey (1997), Goleman’s Emotional Competences model (1998), and Bar-On’s Emotional and Social Intelligence model (2006). This paper also includes implications of EI models for sport-related contexts. This review of the literature adheres to a holistic approach of sports training, and performance enhancement where EI is deemed necessary for mental resilience, better decision-making and stress management. Previous studies have established that work motivation and depression are related; however, the underlying mechanisms between the two have not received much empirical attention. Based on the JD-R model, the present research aimed to expand extant research by proposing a moderated mediation model to examine whether burnout may play a mediator between work motivation and depression and investigate the moderating role of mental resilience in this mediation process. Overall, 5,025 Chinese manufacturing employees participated in the study. Participants completed questionnaires regarding work motivation, job burnout, mental resilience, and depression. Using Hayes's PROCESS macro (Model 58) to test the moderated mediation model, this study found that work motivation was significantly and negatively associated with depression. The moderated mediation analyses further indicated that burnout acted as a full mediator in the relation between work motivation and depression and this mediated path was weaker for employees with higher levels of mental resilience. These findings demonstrated that burnout is the critical link between work motivation and depression, and high mental resilience helps prevent job burnout and depression. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Mental resilience is the ability to bounce back from daily life stressors such as divorce or losing a job. Extensive research has demonstrated a negative relationship between mental resilience and alcohol consumption. That is, both the quantity and frequency of alcohol consumption are greater in individuals with lower levels of mental resilience. There has, however, been little scientific attention paid to the relationship between mental resilience and alcohol hangover severity. The objective of this study was to evaluate psychological factors that may impact the frequency and severity of alcohol hangovers, including alcohol intake itself, mental resilience, personality, baseline mood, lifestyle, and coping mechanisms. An online survey was conducted among Dutch adults (N = 153) who had a hangover after their heaviest drinking occasion in the period before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic (15 January to 14 March 2020). Questions were asked about their alcohol consumption and hangover severity on their heaviest drinking occasion. Mental resilience was assessed with the Brief Mental Resilience scale, personality with the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire–Revised Short Scale (EPQ-RSS), mood via single item assessments, and lifestyle and coping with the modified Fantastic Lifestyle Checklist. The partial correlation, corrected for estimated peak blood alcohol concentration (BAC), between mental resilience and hangover severity was not significant (r = 0.010, p = 0.848). Furthermore, no significant correlations were found between hangover severity or frequency and personality and baseline mood. For lifestyle and coping factors, a negative correlation was found between the use of tobacco and toxins (i.e., drugs, medicines, caffeine) and the frequency of experiencing hangovers. Regression analysis revealed that hangover severity after the heaviest drinking occasion (31.2%) was the best predictor of hangover frequency, and that subjective intoxication on the heaviest drinking occasion (38.4%) was the best predictor of next-day hangover severity. Mood, mental resilience, and personality were not relevant predictors of hangover frequency and severity. Resilience is beneficial for poor households to overcome the negative shocks and shake off the poverty trap completely in the long run. In this article we evaluate the impact of poverty alleviation intervention on mental resilience by exploiting the natural experiment of the COVID-19 shock. Using the survey data collected in early March 2020 from underdeveloped region in West China, we address the impact of targeted poverty alleviation program (TPAP) on confidence level of off-farm and total income recovery using the difference-in-difference method. We find that the program enhances mental resilience for the out of poverty households rather than the in poverty households, especially in terms of confidence level of off-farm income recovery. The Covid-19 pandemic that attacked Indonesia and other countries of the world has changed human’ way of life. The Covid-19 pandemic greatly influences the field of education, where all learning activities turn to online mode, which results in students’ depression symptoms due to their unpreparedness. This study aims to analyze the impact of remote learning, family conditions, and mental resilience on depression symptoms in early childhood. This study used ex-post facto research (measurement after the event) because the research data for both independent variables and dependent variables occurred before this study was held. The study population was 80 children. The data collection method used was a questionnaire developed from the indicators of each variable. The analysis method used multiple regression. The data analysis used correlation and regression techniques, with regression analysis of three predictors and one criterion. The research findings showed that depression symptoms of early childhood are jointly influenced by remote learning, family condition, and mental resilience. However, two variables that do not affect the depression symptoms of early childhood are remote learning and mental resilience. Objective To evaluate the effect of a refined nursing model based on two-way nursing quality feedback on the postoperative mental resilience of patients with facial vascular malformation. Methods A total of 165 patients with facial vascular malformation were randomly divided into control group (n = 82) and study group (n = 83). Routine nursing was used in the control group, while two-way quality feedback nursing was used in the study group. The levels of mental resilience by Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), chronic disease stigma by Stigma Scale for Chronic Illness (SSCI) and patient satisfaction by self-made questionnaire were compared between the two groups. Results The score of CD-RISC in the study group was significantly higher than that in the control group (81. 73±2. 48 vs. 64. 15±3. 88, P＜0. 01). The score of SSCI in the study group was lower than that in the control group (44. 88±5. 68 vs. 69. 14±6. 92, P＜0. 01). The score of satisfaction evaluation in the study was higher than that of the control group (95. 01±4. 05 vs. 80. 49±6. 32, P＜0. 01). Conclusion In facial vascular malformation patients, two-way quality feedback nursing model can effectively improve the level of mental resilience, reduce the stigma of chronic illness, and improve patients’ satisfaction, which is worthy of clinical application and promotion. Objective　To clarify the relationship between childhood maltreatment and insomnia in middle school students， and to explore the mediating role of post-traumatic stress disorder （PTSD） symptoms and the moderating role of mental resilience involvement. Methods　From April to May 2021， a total of 3 412 students in 3 middle schools in a city in western China were selected using convenient sampling method， and all students were assessed by Childhood Trauma Questionnaire （CTQ）， Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Scale （PCL）， Insomnia Severity Index （ISI） and mental resilience scale. The moderated mediating effect analysis was conducted using Process v3. 4. Results　Among the middle school students， CTQ scores were positively correlated with PCL and ISI scores（ r=0. 540， 0. 320， P<0. 05）， and the scores of CTQ， PCL and ISI were negatively correlated with the score of mental resilience scale （r=-0. 049， -0. 193， -0. 132， P<0. 05）. PTSD symptoms exhibited a partial mediating effect on the relationship between general childhood maltreatment and insomnia （β=0. 161， P<0. 05）， accounting for 80. 5% of the total effect. Conclusion　Among the middle school students， the relationship between childhood maltreatment and insomnia is partially mediated via PTSD symptoms， and mental resilience exerts a moderating role between childhood maltreatment and PTSD symptoms. Objective To explore the effect of mental resilience between person-organization fit and subjective well-being of contract nurses in military hospitals, and to provide theoretical basis for improving nurses' subjective well-being. Methods The study was designed as a cross-sectional study. From November to December, 2021, a total of 374 nurses were surveyed using the Nurse Person-Organization Fit Scale, Mental Resilience Scale and Ggeneral Well-being Scale. Results The scores of person-organization fit, mental resilience and subjective well-being of the contract nurses in military hospital were (4.51±0.55), (3.71±0.57), (79.02±14.41) scores, respectively. There was a significant correlation between mental resilience and subjective well-being (r=0.487, P <0.01), and a significant positive correlation between person-organization fit and subjective well-being (r=0.323, P <0.01), and mental resilience (r=0.232, P <0.01). Mental resilience played a partial mediating role in the relationship between person-organization fit and subjective well-being, accounting for 31.32%. Conclusion Mental resilience plays a mediating role in the relationship between nurses' person-organization fit and subjective well-being. Background: Mental health is a global issue requiring global attention. Depression and anxiety are two of the most common mental disorders (CMDs) and are characterized by high incidence and high comorbidity. In recent years, the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and exacerbated social instability have posed significant challenges to the mental resilience and mental health outcomes of the global population. Now more than ever, with an increase in mental health needs, it has become even more crucial to find an effective solution to provide universal mental healthcare. Psychotherapy is of vital importance for those coping with symptoms of depression and anxiety and is used to enhance mental resilience. However, such therapy can be difficult to access in reality. In this context, the Micro-Video Psychological Training Camp (MVPTC) platform will be developed. Objectives: As an online self-help platform for psychological intervention, the MVPTC platform was developed for those who suffer from mild to moderate symptoms of depression and/or anxiety and is tasked with the goal of reducing depressive and anxious symptoms while improving mental resilience. Thus, this study will be carried out to verify its efficacy and applicability. Methods: In this parallel-group, randomized controlled trial, a total of 200 mild to moderately depressed and/or anxious adults seeking self-help will be randomly recruited and assigned to either the micro-video psychological intervention group or the wait list control group. Online measurements by self-assessment will be taken at baseline, post-intervention, 1-month, and 3-month follow-up. Results: The primary results will involve symptoms of depression and anxiety. The secondary results will involve mental resilience. An analysis will be conducted based on the intention-to-treat principle. Discussion: This trial will examine whether the MVPTC platform for the relief of symptoms and the enhancement of resilience in a population screened for depression and anxiety symptoms proves effective and applicable. Largescale resilience enhancement may benefit public mental health in terms of preventive interventions, managing depressive and anxiety symptoms, and promoting mental health. With the MVPTC-based method being applied, a brief, efficient, and structured intervention model can potentially be established, having the potential to provide necessary and accessible mental support for an extensive target group. Engaging in physical activity (PA), minimizing sitting time and consuming a healthy diet are behaviors associated with health and wellness across the lifespan. The present multi-study analysis examined the relationship between grit and PA, sitting time and dietary behaviors in several populations that included US adults, active-duty military personnel, veterans, college students and performing artists. The four research laboratories administered an internet-based survey between spring and summer of 2020. The common questionnaires on the surveys were the Grit Scale Short Form, International Physical Activity Questionnaire Short Form and the Rapid Eating Assessment for Participants Short Form. Multiple regression analyses were conducted to examine the association between grit, PA, sitting time and dietary behaviors. PA was associated with grit for US adults, civilians and college students but not for performing artists or active-duty military populations. Sitting time was associated with grit for US adults and active-duty military personnel. US adults, college students and performing artists were found to have a positive association between healthy dietary behaviors and grit. Overall, the findings indicate that grit has a positive influence on PA, sitting time and dietary behaviors across the unique populations; however, the relationships indicate some nuanced differences between the populations. Abstract: This study aims to investigate the relationship between trait anxiety and mental resilience in marathoners and the general population. The study recruited 135 marathoners and 140 members of the general population. Trait anxiety and mental resilience were measured by the State-Trait Anxiety Scale and the Chinese version of the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale. The amount of weekly exercise resulted in significant differences in the trait anxiety ( F = 6.358, p < 0.01) and mental resilience ( F = 5.996, p < 0.05) levels of the general population and marathoners. Age led to a significant difference in the trait anxiety of marathoners ( F = 10.890, p < 0.01). The half marathoners' daily exercise program is most suitable for the general population for reducing trait anxiety level and increasing mental resilience. Furthermore, marathoners showed lower trait anxiety and higher mental resilience. Therefore, long-term marathon adherence can help improve mental health. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The research on life satisfaction originated in the 1960s and has not been completely studied yet. Life satisfaction is an index related to the state and quality of individual life. With the development of society, the relevant variables affecting life satisfaction have also changed with the times. The purpose of this study is to research the relationship between parent and child or peer alienation, mental resilience, self-concept clarity and life satisfaction, finding the mechanism of action among parent-child or peer alienation, mental resilience, self-concept clarity, and life satisfaction. This cross-sectional study recruites randomly 1,347 adolescents from six middle schools in Chongqing, China, participating in a questionnaire on sociodemographic characteristics, the Inventor of Parent and Peer Attachment (IPPA), the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC-10), the Self-concept Clarity Scale (SCCS), and the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS). The sample consists of 62.4% female participants (n = 841) and 37.6% male participants (n = 506) aged from 11 to 17 years old (Mean = 14.54, SD = 1.21). We use SPSS 26 to perform the statistical analysis. The study finds that mental resilience--self-concept clarity have mediating effect on the parent or peer alienation to life satisfaction, to the effect that, parent-child or peer alienation explain life satisfaction through the chain mediating effect of mental resilience--self-concept clarity. This study explores the negative multi-use of parent-child or peer alienation on life satisfaction and provides a new perspective for the improvement of life satisfaction of adolescents. Objective: To investigate the relationship between pregnancy stress and prenatal anxiety in pregnant women in Urumqi, Xinjiang, and the mediating eect of mental resilience level on the relationship between pregnancy stress and prenatal anxiety. Method: The investigation involved 750 pregnant women at a tertiary hospital in Urumqi, and included a questionnaire eliciting general demographic information, a pregnancy stress scale (Pregnancy Pressure Scale, PPS), generalized anxiety disorder scale (Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7, GAD-7), and a mental resilience scale (Connor—Davidson resilience scale, CD-RISC). The Bootstrap mediation eect test was used to test the eect relationship between variables, and Amos was used to establish the structural equation model. Results: Among the 750 participants, 122 (16.2%) had moderate or greater pregnancy stress (PPS > 1), 372 (49.6%) had mild or greater anxiety symptoms (GAD-7 > 5), and 241 (32.1%) had good or higher mental resilience score. Pregnancy stress negatively aected resilience (β = −0.37, p < 0.01), and resilience also negatively aected prenatal anxiety (β = −0.12, p < 0.01). The mediating eect value of resilience was 8.3%. Conclusion: Pregnancy stress, mental resilience, and prenatal anxiety were significantly correlated, and mental resilience played a partial mediating role in the influence of pregnancy stress on prenatal anxiety. The primary purpose of the present study was to develop a practical, reliable, and valid self-assessment of the use of psychological skills for law enforcement personnel. The Psychological Skills Inventory – Law Enforcement (PSI-LE) gauges the use of seven central mental skills common within psychological skills training (PST) programs: attention management, winning mindset, combat breathing, muscle control, mental practice, physical recharge, and self-talk. Following a developmental pilot of the scale, the PSI-LE was administered to 576 law enforcement officers. The ensuing analyses resulted in a final 26-item inventory that demonstrated acceptable psychometric properties. Findings are discussed with respect to practical implications and future research involving the PSI-LE. The baseline data from the China Education Panel Survey (CEPS) 2014–2015 was employed to construct linear regression models and structural equation models, which were used to investigate the effects of different parenting styles on the mental health of rural left-behind children. The study found that parenting behaviors and parenting attitudes in two different modes, intergenerational parenting and parental parenting, both have an impact on the mental health of rural left-behind children, with no significant difference between the two. Nevertheless, the quality of the relationship between children and their mothers has a considerable impact on their mental health. Secondly, parenting behavior exerts a direct and indirect influence on the mental health mechanism of these children, the direct effect is considerably more pronounced than the indirect effect; the impact of parenting attitudes on the mental health of left-behind children is contingent upon the mediating variable of mental resilience. In order to mitigate the adverse effects of parental absence on the mental health of left-behind children, it is imperative that families enhance their parenting attitudes, reinforce parent–child communication, and cultivate a nurturing family environment. Schools must implement human-centered education, enhance the professionalism of teachers, and extend greater care and support to left-behind children. This study aimed to investigate the relationships between national belongingness and family cohesion and adaptation and mental resilience, and to test a moderating effect of gender. Participants were invited via Email, Facebook and WhatsApp to participate in the study. The cross-sectional sample in the study was made up of 1,716 participants (63.7% females), with a mean age of 29.2 years (SD=10.33 years). The questionnaire included three main scales: the Mental Flexibility Inventory scale, the Family Adaptation and Cohesion scale, and the National Belongingness scale – as well as the demographics. Independent t-tests were computed to examine gender differences. Path analyses were used to determine the associations between the variables and to test the moderation of gender. Results showed that females had greater mental resilience and family cohesion than males, and males reported greater family adaptation than females. In terms of associations, a sense of national belongingness was positively related to mental resilience, family cohesion predicted better resilience, and a moderating effect of gender was observed. The study recommended that interventions to increase family cohesion and adaptation, national belongingness, and mental resilience in people should be gender directed.

This study extended the research on the relationship between youth elite athletes’ satisfaction and coaches’ paternalistic leadership by identifying athletes’ resilience as a moderator. A total of 221 youth elite football (i.e., soccer) players aged 13–19 years old who are students of a Chinese professional football boarding school participated in a questionnaire survey. The study found no correlation between the three dimensions of coaches’ paternalistic leadership (authoritative leadership, benevolent leadership, and moral leadership) and the youth athletes’ satisfaction. The results also showed that the interaction of resilience and moral leadership affects the youth elite athletes’ satisfaction, whereas resilience does not play a moderating role in the relationship between authoritative leadership or benevolent leadership and satisfaction. As the results of the study are different from those of other scholars, they may reveal the uniqueness of youth elite football players in boarding schools. This study further analyzed the possible reasons for this result and prospected (or indicated) the theoretical and practical implications of these findings. Based on the conclusion, the study recommended that youth elite football schools should pay attention to the results of scientific research in leadership styles and apply them to practice in the future. Objectives: Wuhan is the city where coronavirus disease (COVID-19) was first reported and developed into a pandemic. However, the impact of the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic on medical staff burnout remains limited. We aimed to identify the prevalence and major determinants of burnout among medical staff 1 year after the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in Wuhan, China. Materials and Methods: A total of 1,602 medical staff from three hospitals in Wuhan, China, were included from November 1-28, 2021. Chi-square tests were conducted to compare the prevalence of burnout across groups based on sociodemographic and professional characteristics. A multivariate analysis was performed using a forward stepwise logistic regression model. Results: Approximately 37.39% of the medical staff experienced burnout 1 year after COVID-19 pandemic. Emotional exhaustion (EE) was the most common symptom of burnout, with 1,422 (88.76%) participants reporting a severe EE. Burnout was associated with insufficient social support and "neutral" or "dissatisfied" patientphysician relationships. Respondents who participated in the care of COVID-19 patients had a higher risk of burnout symptoms than those who did not participate. In particular, mental resilience was negatively associated with burnout among the medical staff. Conclusion: Nearly two-fifths of the participants had symptoms of burnout, with reduced personal accomplishment being the predominant symptom 1 year after COVID-19. Healthcare organizations should regularly measure and monitor burnout among the medical staff. In addition, creating positive work environments and improving the mental resilience of medical staff may be effective ways to reduce burnout. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aims: This study aimed to investigate whether the impact of workplace violence (WPV) on nurses' mental health varies with mental resilience and coping strategies. Background: Workplace violence is a serious threat to nurses' mental health, and its impact on nurses' mental health is influenced by many factors. Method: A cross‐sectional study involving 349 participants was conducted over 12 months. The data were analyzed using SPSS 25.0 and SPSS PROCESS macro. Results: In total, 82.52% of nurses were exposed to WPV. WPV not only affects mental health directly but also indirectly through mental resilience. Coping strategies had a moderating effect among WPV, mental resilience and mental health. When nurses coped with psychological violence with intolerance, WPV had a stronger negative effect on their mental health. When nurses coped with psychological violence with tolerance but coped with physical violence with intolerance, mental resilience had a stronger positive effect on their mental health. Conclusions: Good mental resilience and coping with psychological violence with tolerance while coping with physical violence with intolerance can help buffer WPV and promote mental health. Mental resilience is the ability to bounce back from daily life stressors such as divorce or losing a job. Extensive research has demonstrated a negative relationship between mental resilience and alcohol consumption. That is, both the quantity and frequency of alcohol consumption are greater in individuals with lower levels of mental resilience. There has, however, been little scientific attention paid to the relationship between mental resilience and alcohol hangover severity. The objective of this study was to evaluate psychological factors that may impact the frequency and severity of alcohol hangovers, including alcohol intake itself, mental resilience, personality, baseline mood, lifestyle, and coping mechanisms. An online survey was conducted among Dutch adults (N = 153) who had a hangover after their heaviest drinking occasion in the period before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic (15 January to 14 March 2020). Questions were asked about their alcohol consumption and hangover severity on their heaviest drinking occasion. Mental resilience was assessed with the Brief Mental Resilience scale, personality with the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire–Revised Short Scale (EPQ-RSS), mood via single item assessments, and lifestyle and coping with the modified Fantastic Lifestyle Checklist. The partial correlation, corrected for estimated peak blood alcohol concentration (BAC), between mental resilience and hangover severity was not significant (r = 0.010, p = 0.848). Furthermore, no significant correlations were found between hangover severity or frequency and personality and baseline mood. For lifestyle and coping factors, a negative correlation was found between the use of tobacco and toxins (i.e., drugs, medicines, caffeine) and the frequency of experiencing hangovers. Regression analysis revealed that hangover severity after the heaviest drinking occasion (31.2%) was the best predictor of hangover frequency, and that subjective intoxication on the heaviest drinking occasion (38.4%) was the best predictor of next-day hangover severity. Mood, mental resilience, and personality were not relevant predictors of hangover frequency and severity. In conclusion, mental resilience, personality, and baseline mood do not predict hangover frequency and severity.

We are in the midst of a mental health crisis with major depressive disorder being the most prevalent among mental health disorders and up to 30% of patients not responding to first-line treatments. Noninvasive Brain Stimulation (NIBS) techniques have proven to be effective in treating depression. However, there is a fundamental problem of scale. Currently, any type of NIBS treatment requires patients to repeatedly visit a clinic to receive brain stimulation by trained personnel. This is an often-insurmountable barrier to both patients and healthcare providers in terms of time and cost. In this perspective, we assess to what extent Transcranial Electrical Stimulation (TES) might be administered with remote supervision in order to address this scaling problem and enable neuroenhancement of mental resilience at home. Social, ethical, and technical challenges relating to hardware- and software-based solutions are discussed alongside the risks of stimulation under- or over-use. Solutions to provide users with a safe and transparent ongoing assessment of aptitude, tolerability, compliance, and/or misuse are proposed, including standardized training, eligibility screening, as well as compliance and side effects monitoring. Looking into the future, such neuroenhancement could be linked to prevention systems which combine home-use TES with digital sensor and mental monitoring technology to index decline in mental wellbeing and avoid relapse. Despite the described social, ethical legal, and technical challenges, the combination of remotely supervised, at-home TES setups with dedicated artificial intelligence systems could be a powerful weapon to combat the mental health crisis by bringing personalized medicine into people's homes. Aim: This systematic review aims at presenting the moral impasse factors on health professionals in times of crisis such as pandemic covid-19 but also in the wider framework of the last decade and seeking enhancement methods of mental resilience. Methodology: The sources searched were based primarily on literature Pubmed database. Keywords such as "moral impasse", "mental resilience", "moral distress" and "covid-19" were used. The articles found, without timing, were 102 and here 13 were used. Inclusion criteria were the statistical representation, conclusions were presented additionally coupled with Covid-19 era and moral impasse and the creation of emotional resilience in healthcare sector according to the most recent studies. Results: Factors that contribute to healthcare workers' moral burnout are categorized into three classes: internal factors, external and clinical conditions. The emergence of SARS-CoV-2 revealed new factors for instance the availability and management of limited resources, the lack of protection for themselves and their loved ones, the time and critical cases management, the end of life care, the communication skills between colleagues, the infections' prevention and the imposition of new health protocols, which, added to already existing areas though. Analysis of factors and address them leads to the need for mental resilience enhancement of healthcare providers, which can be carried out at individual, interpersonal, but mainly in administrative-organizational level. Conclusion: The essential and foremost interventions pertain to the perception of ethical problems by the health administration at the time, the provision of understanding and solidarity to the clinical caregivers and their inclusion in the decision-making process but also the common response of the ethical issues that arise in the health sector both in times of crisis and in more general terms. Extensive research exists on relationships between psychological constructs and alcohol consumption. However, research on relationships with hangover severity remains limited. This study aimed to assess the associations between mental resilience, mood (i.e., depression, anxiety, and stress), coping, personality, and hangover severity. A total of N = 690 participants completed an online survey by answering questions regarding their demographics, alcohol use, hangover prevalence and severity, and several psychological assessments (Brief Resilience Scale, DASS-21, Brief Cope, and Brief Version of the Big Five Personality Inventory). Significant associations were found between hangover severity and mental resilience, mood, and avoidant coping. Higher levels of mental resilience were associated with less severe hangovers, whereas poorer mood was associated with more severe hangovers. No significant associations were found with personality traits. These findings demonstrate that several associations between psychological constructs and hangover severity exist and suggest a role of psychological factors in the pathology of the alcohol hangover. As our findings contrast with the results of previous studies that did not report an association between mental resilience and the presence and severity of hangovers, further research is warranted. Objective: The objective was to investigate the relationship between resilience, illness uncertainty, and sleep quality in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted from September 2019 to August 2020 from a tertiary hospital in Guangzhou, China. Totally, 205 participants completed questionnaires concerning demographic characteristics, Pittsburgh sleep quality index, Mishel uncertainty in illness scale (MUIS), and Connor–Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISR) were collected by convenience sampling. Multiple hierarchical regression analysis was used to evaluate the interaction of illness uncertainty, resilience, and sleep quality. The mediating role of resilience was also tested. Results: The total score of illness uncertainty was 94.68 ± 11.19 in T2DM patients, which was proved in the medium level. There was a significant negative correlation between the total CD-RISR score and total MUIS score (r = −0.716, P < 0.01); there was a significant negative correlation between the total CD-RISR score and total PISQ score (r = −0.806, P < 0.01); total MUIS score was positively correlated with PISQ score (r = 0.872, P < 0.01). Psychological resilience could partially mediate the association between sleep quality and the level of illness uncertainty, and the mediating effect was 0.293, accounting for 34.20% of the total effect. Conclusion: Patients with T2DM have a moderate level of illness uncertainty, and it was negatively correlated with mental resilience level and positively associated with sleep quality. Medical staff should strengthen psychological intervention for T2DM patients to reduce the sense of uncertainty.

Public health emergencies can trigger individual death anxiety. Most previous studies focus on the negative effects of death anxiety via the Western materialistic view, neglecting both the positive aspects of death anxiety within the Chinese cultural background and the positive effects of death anxiety upon environmental consumption. By implementing the unique Chinese cultural background for the concepts of justice and interests, this study explores the positive influence of individual death anxiety on altruistic environmental consumption during the COVID-19 crisis by analyzing personal life reviews and other sources. The results show that (1) under the guidance of the correct concept of justice and benefit, individuals with high death anxiety during the epidemic period not only enhance their self-esteem through positive self-perception and social evaluation, but they are more inclined to benefit from other environmental consumption behaviors and attain a symbolic self-survival; and (2) during the epidemic period, mental resilience, as a transformation mechanism of external defense and the internal growth of death psychology, can directly affect altruistic environmental consumption by consumers without relying on external standards. In the context of the Chinese culture's concept of justice and interests, this study enriches the knowledge of fear management theory and the positive impact of death anxiety on environmental consumption. The introduction of mental resilience as a boundary condition has important theoretical and practical significance within the study of consumer behavior in public health emergencies and post-epidemic economic recovery.
