The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, NASA's next flagship observatory, will redefine deep-field galaxy survey with a field of view two orders of magnitude larger than Hubble and an angular resolution of matching quality. These future deep-wide galaxy surveys necessitate new simulations to forecast their scientific output and to optimise survey strategies. In this work, we present five realizations of 2-deg^2 lightcones, containing a total of >25 million simulated galaxies with -16 < MUV < -25 spanning z ~ 0 to 10. This dataset enables a new set of experiments with the impacts of survey size on the derived galaxy formation and cosmological constraints. The intrinsic and observable galaxy properties are predicted using a well-established, physics-based semi-analytic modelling approach. We provide forecasts for number density, cosmic SFR, field-to-field variance, and angular two-point correlation functions, and demonstrate how the future wide-field surveys will be able to improve these measurements relative to current generation surveys. We also present a comparison between these lightcones and others that have been constructed with empirical models. The mock lightcones are designed to facilitate the exploration of multi-instrument synergies and connecting with current generation instruments and legacy surveys. In addition to Roman, we also provide photometry for a number of other instruments on upcoming facilities, including Euclid and Rubin, as well as the instruments that are part of many legacy surveys. We present a pilot, untargeted extragalactic carbon monoxide (CO) emission-line survey using ALMACAL, a project utilizing ALMA calibration data for scientific purposes. In 33 deep (Texp > 40 min) ALMACAL fields, we report six CO emission-line detections above S/N > 4, one-third confirmed by MUSE observations. With this pilot survey, we probe a cosmologically significant volume of ∼105 cMpc3, widely distributed over many pointings in the southern sky, making the survey largely insusceptible to the effects of cosmic variance. We derive the redshift probability of the CO detections using probability functions from the Shark semi-analytical model of galaxy formation. By assuming typical CO excitations for the detections, we put constraints on the cosmic molecular gas mass density evolution over the redshift range 0 < z < 1.5. The results of our pilot survey are consistent with the findings of other untargeted emission-line surveys and the theoretical model predictions and currently cannot rule out a non-evolving molecular gas mass density. Our study demonstrates the potential of using ALMA calibrator fields as a multi-sightline untargeted CO emission-line survey. Applying this approach to the full ALMACAL database will provide an accurate, free of cosmic variance, measurement of the molecular luminosity function as a function of redshift.

REQUIEM-2D (REsolving QUIEscent Magnified galaxies with 2D grism spectroscopy) is comprised of a sample of 8 massive ($\log M_*/M_\odot > 10.6$) strongly lensed quiescent galaxies at $z\sim2$. REQUIEM-2D combines the natural magnification from strong gravitational lensing with the high spatial-resolution grism spectroscopy of \emph{Hubble Space Telescope} through a spectrophotometric fit to study spatially resolved stellar populations. We show that quiescent galaxies in the REQUIEM-2D survey have diverse formation histories manifesting as a gradient in stellar ages, including examples of (1) a younger central region supporting outside-in formation, (2) flat age gradients that show evidence for both spatially-uniform early formation or inside-out quenching, and (3) regions at a fixed radial distance having different ages (such asymmetries cannot be recovered when averaging stellar population measurements azimuthally). The typical dust attenuation curve for the REQUIEM-2D galaxies is constrained to be steeper than Calzetti's law in the UV and generally consistent with $A_V, Submitted to ApJ

We report a detailed CO(1-0) survey of a galaxy protocluster field at $z=2.16$, based on 475 hours of observations with the Australia Telescope Compact Array. We constructed a large mosaic of 13 individual pointings, covering an area of 21 arcmin$^2$ and $\pm6500$ km/s range in velocity. We obtain a robust sample of 46 CO(1-0) detections spanning $z=2.09-2.22$, constituting the largest sample of molecular gas measurements in protoclusters to date. The CO emitters show an overdensity at $z=2.12-2.21$, suggesting a galaxy super-protocluster or a protocluster connected to large-scale filaments with ~120 cMpc size. We find that 90% CO emitters have distances $>0'.5-4'$ to the center galaxy, indicating that small area surveys would miss the majority of gas reservoirs in similar structures. Half of the CO emitters have velocities larger than escape velocities, which appears gravitationally unbound to the cluster core. These unbound sources are barely found within the $R_{200}$ radius around the center, which is consistent with a picture in which the cluster core is collapsed while outer regions are still in formation. Compared to other protoclusters, this structure contains relatively more CO emitters with relatively narrow line width and high luminosity, indicating galaxy mergers. We use these CO emitters to place the first constraint on the CO luminosity function and molecular gas density in an overdense environment. The amplitude of the CO luminosity function is 1.6$\pm$0.5 orders of magnitudes higher than observed for field galaxy samples at $z\sim2$, and one order of magnitude higher than predictions for galaxy protoclusters from semi-analytical SHARK models. We derive a high molecular gas density of $0.6-1.3\times10^{9}$ $M_\odot$ cMpc$^{-3}$ for this structure, consistent with predictions for cold gas density of massive structures from hydro-dynamical DIANOGA simulations., 21 pages + Appendices, 9 figures, 6 tables. Our current understanding of galaxy evolution still has many uncertainties associated with the details of accretion, processing, and removal of gas across cosmic time. The next generation of radio telescopes will image the neutral hydrogen (HI) in galaxies over large volumes at high redshifts, which will provide key insights into these processes. We are conducting the COSMOS HI Large Extragalactic Survey (CHILES) with the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array, which is the first survey to simultaneously observe HI from z=0 to z~0.5. Here, we report the highest redshift HI 21-cm detection in emission to date of the luminous infrared galaxy (LIRG) COSMOS J100054.83+023126.2 at z=0.376 with the first 178 hours of CHILES data. The total HI mass is $(2.9\pm1.0)\times10^{10}~M_\odot$, and the spatial distribution is asymmetric and extends beyond the galaxy. While optically the galaxy looks undisturbed, the HI distribution suggests an interaction with candidate a candidate companion. In addition, we present follow-up Large Millimeter Telescope CO observations that show it is rich in molecular hydrogen, with a range of possible masses of $(1.8-9.9)\times10^{10}~M_\odot$. International audience; We present Herschel Space Telescope observations of the nearby Fornax cluster at 100, 160, 250, 350 and 500 mu m with a spatial resolution of 7-36 arcsec (10 arcsec approximate to 1 kpc at d(Fornax) = 17.9Mpc). We define a sample of 11 bright galaxies, selected at 500 mu m, that can be directly compared with our past work on the Virgo cluster. We check and compare our results with previous observations made by IRAS and Planck, finding good agreement. The far-infrared luminosity density is higher, by about a factor of 3, in Fornax compared to Virgo, consistent with the higher number density of galaxies. The 100 mu m (42.5-122.5 mu m) luminosity is two orders of magnitude larger in Fornax than in the local field as measured by IRAS. We calculate stellar (L0.4-2.5) and far-infrared (L100-500) luminosities for each galaxy and use these to estimate a mean optical depth of tau = 0.4 +/- 0.1 - the same value as we previously found for Virgo cluster galaxies. For 10 of the 11 galaxies (NGC 1399 excepted), we fit a modified blackbody curve (beta = 2.0) to our observed flux densities to derive dust masses and temperatures of 10(6.54-8.35) M-circle dot and T = 14.6-24.2 K, respectively, values comparable to those found for Virgo. The derived stars-to-gas(atomic) and gas(atomic)-to-dust ratios vary from 1.1-67.6 to 9.8-436.5, respectively, again broadly consistent with values for Virgo. Fornax is a mass overdensity in stars and dust of about 120 when compared to the local field (30 for Virgo). Fornax and Virgo are both a factor of 6 lower overdensities in gas(atomic) than in stars and dust indicating loss of gas, but not dust and stars, in the cluster environment. We consider in more detail two of the sample galaxies. As the brightest source in either Fornax or Virgo, NGC 1365 is also detected by Planck. The Planck data fit the PACS/SPIRE spectral energy distribution out to 1382 mu m with no evidence of other sources of emission ('spinning dust', free-free, synchrotron). At the opposite end of the scale, NGC 1399 is detected only at 500 mu m with the emission probably arising from the nuclear radio source rather than interstellar dust.
