Abstract: Based on the adaptive lie detector theory, this study is an examination of whether taking an oath, as context‐general information, increases the credibility of a suspect. The consistency of the testimonies of 6 eyewitnesses was manipulated so that it could be used as individuating information. There were 2 sets of testimonies: one that was consistent and one that was inconsistent. The results supported the adaptive lie detector theory. The participants judged those persons who took an oath to be more credible than those who did not, but this only happened in situations where the testimonies of the eyewitnesses were inconsistent. The activities we choose to spend our leisure time with are intrinsically motivating and vary across individuals. Yet it is unknown how impulse control or neural activity changes when processing a preferred stimulus related to a hobby or interest. Developing a task that assesses the response to preferred interests is of importance as it would be relevant to a range of psychiatric disorders that have hyper- or hypo-arousal to such cues. During functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI), 39 healthy adults completed a novel task to test approach behavior and cognitive control to cues that were personalized to the participants' interests compared to stimuli the participants identified as being of non-interest and colored shapes. fMRI results showed that cues of one's interest elicited activation in the anterior insula compared to colored shapes. Interests did not change inhibition compared to non-interests and colored shapes and all stimuli equally engaged a frontostriatal circuit. Together the results suggest that adults were sensitive to their interests but were effective at regulating their impulses towards these cues, a skill that is critical for navigating the temptations and distractions in our daily environment. Previous studies have found that senders' personal traits may be used by others to make judgements about the senders' truthfulness. Two studies were conducted to examine whether perceived self-control ability has an effect on deception judgement. Perceived self-control was hypothesized to act as a motivational cue that participants would use to assess the sender's motivation to lie, which in turn would influence their deception judgement. Results revealed that when participants assessed the sender as having higher self-control ability, they would consider the sender to be less motivated to lie in daily life (Study 1), and judge the sender more truthful in a text-based deception judgement task (Study 2). However, the effect of perceived self-control ability disappeared in a video-based task (Study 2), likely due to the multitude of various cues available in audio-visual stimuli. Abstract: Objective: To investigate how COPD patients respond to motivational cues that aim to improve activity behavior and how these responses are related to cue- and context characteristics. In addition, to explore whether activity can be increased and better distributed over the day by providing such cues. Methods: Fifteen COPD patients participated. Patients used an activity sensor with a smartphone for four weeks, at least four days/week. Patients received motivational cues every 2h with advice on how to improve their activity, on top of real-time visual feedback. The response was calculated by the amount of activity 30min before and after a cue. Results: In total, 1488 cues were generated. The amount of activity significantly decreased in the 30min after a discouraging cue (p <0.001) and significantly increased (p <0.05) in the 10min after an encouraging cue. The activity level increased with 13% in the intervention period compared to corrected baseline (p =0.008). The activity was not more balanced over the day. Conclusions: COPD patients significantly change their activity level in response to motivational cues, based on continuous ambulatory assessment of activity levels. Practice implications: Motivational cues could be a valuable component of telemedicine interventions that aim to improve activity behavior. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
