This study examines the underexplored issue of whether or not activities of corporate philanthropy (CP) by foreign multinationals, which have been shown to positively influence global stakeholders, can also influence local consumers in developing countries in Asia. We survey how consumers in Myanmar and Vietnam perceive Chinese and Korean multinationals and their CP activities. The results indicate that CP has a fairly limited influence on purchase intentions of local consumers in these markets. The study found only indirect effects through corporate image for firms from China (unfavourable origin), However, neither direct nor indirect effects on purchase intentions were observed for Korean firms (favourable origin). Our findings suggest that, unlike in developed countries, local consumers may not be key stakeholders to consider in planning corporate-sponsored philanthropic activities in developing Asia. This paper explains the effects originated by the massive entrance of foreign capital in the ceramic tile district of Castellon (Spain). Cross-fertilizing multinational acquisitions and industrial districts' literature, and using mix-methods on a focal case study, our article explores the effects that those multinationals have on districts, and whether the type of multinationals (financially-oriented vs industrial) presents different impacts on a focal industrial district. Our results point out that the massive entrance of foreign capital alters the local system. Overall, positive perceived attitudes are evidenced, along with negative attitudes associated with potential risks of lack of local-embedded ownership and the reduction of local cooperative ties. This article analyzes the ways heterogenous firms procure their inputs in the presence of relationship‐specific investments and incomplete contracts. We first consider a closed economy in which firms decide how to structure their organization. Production is sequential and inputs (upstream and downstream) are sourced in the same order as production. While our closed‐economy setup is analogous to Antràs and Chor (Econometrica, 2013), there are two distinct features: (1) The reward to each supplier is determined through bargaining over the full revenue of the firm (as opposed to marginal contribution of the supplier), and (2) The reward structure combined with our sequential bargaining protocol gives rise to linkages across suppliers. The analysis in Antràs and Chor (Econometrica, 2013) identifies a mechanism in which upstream organizational decisions have spillover effects on downstream suppliers' investment incentives. Thanks to our novel features, we identify another mechanism: the spillover effects of downstream organizational decisions on the investment incentive of upstream suppliers. Next, we consider an open economy in which firms not only make organizational decisions but also determine where to source their inputs. We show that these decisions are connected between sequential production stages such that the sourcing location of the upstream input may affect the organizational choice in the downstream stage. We then examine how within sectoral heterogeneity and variations in industry characteristics influence the relative prevalence of firms that choose to form different organizational structures. Our paper revisits one of the fundamental questions of International Business (IB) scholarship, investigating the ways through which multinational enterprises (MNEs) establish legitimacy when entering a foreign market. We address this question in a novel context of Central and Eastern European (CEE) firms venturing into Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), employing a multiple case study approach. We investigate the process of legitimacy formation by Polish firms entering SSA for market-seeking reasons. We find that the firms studied use their initial liabilities of foreignness, outsidership, and origin as starting points for pragmatic, moral, and cognitive legitimacy-building by developing narratives that neutralize the distance between themselves and important local stakeholders. Our findings contribute to an understanding of the contingent nature of 'liabilities' in IB literature and shed light on the role of narratives in the internationalization process. To date, the accounting and international business (IB) research fields have been developing rather independently, although some cross-discipline fertilisation is emerging. This paper aims to illustrate the conceptual and empirical bridges between the two disciplines. Specifically, we highlight how contributions originating in either field have influenced theory and research in such diverse areas as corporate governance, risk management, taxation and strategic decision making in multinational enterprises (MNEs). Further, we identify examples where attention by accounting researchers to the IB literature has resulted in innovative research, including studies focusing on control systems and financial reporting in MNEs. Based on our discussion of the state of mutual contributions between the disciplines, we highlight various areas where future research could benefit from further integration of the accounting and IB literatures. This study examines multinational companies in emerging markets, exploring their transfer pricing strategies for establishing tax havens. These companies employ various mechanisms (e.g., transfer pricing, profit transfers, and the reallocation of intangible assets) to minimize their tax liabilities. Today an increasing level of intangible assets facilitates smoother profit transfers to jurisdictions with lower tax burdens. Furthermore, these companies relocate their productive activities to tax havens, creating opportunities for corporate tax evasion and avoidance. Despite the efforts of governments and international organizations to propose the adoption of a minimum tax rate for different countries, these companies have been able to reduce or completely avoid paying taxes. Our study sample includes companies headquartered in emerging countries between 2010 and 2020. The study introduces some innovative elements, such as the variable "transfer pricing intensity," which is derived from manual data collection. This variable enables analysis of the transfer pricing levels employed by multinational companies. In addition, a noteworthy contribution of this research is the use of an unconventional tax proxy known as AREA, which monitors the tax benefits associated with short‐ and long‐term debts. The results demonstrate that these companies employ a diverse range of instruments, often in combination, to reduce taxes in their conglomerates. These findings contribute significantly to a deeper understanding of the intricacies surrounding corporate tax optimization practices and provide valuable insights for governments in formulating robust policies that promote transparency and accountability in the international tax landscape. In recent years, corporate social responsibility has emerged as a pivotal factor for corporations in cultivating a favorable public perception. Despite this, many companies remain uncertain about the integration and rationale behind incorporating it into their core business strategies. This study aims to discern dissimilarities in implementing corporate social responsibility initiatives between Slovak and Czech companies, addressing the triple bottom line framework. This approach is a metric for evaluating a company’s achievement across three dimensions: social, environmental, and economic. The study is predicated on a questionnaire survey conducted among a sample of 180 Slovak and 180 Czech companies operating as subsidiaries of multinational corporations as typical implementers of corporate social responsibility activities in emerging economies. Following the triple bottom line framework, three distinct sets of variables were formulated to account for social, environmental, and economic activities using the Mann-Whitney U Test to ascertain statistically significant disparities between Slovak and Czech companies. The findings indicate that the surveyed companies from monitored countries exhibited no notable distinctions in environmental endeavors. However, discrepancies were discerned in economic activities, specifically relating to post-sales or post-warranty customer services, which was significant with a small effect size (0.19). In social activities, significant differences were observed concerning adherence to the principle of equal opportunities in the workplace. Based on these outcomes, it is recommended that future investigations delve more extensively into the monitored parameters within the Visegrad countries. Multinationals can escape high Statutory Tax Rates (STRs) by way of Profit-Shifting (P-S) and in this form, reduce the Effective Tax Rate (ETR) they ultimately pay. In this article, we find evidence for Spain consistent with P-S, since the relationship between STRs and ETRs becomes negative for multinationals with characteristics that may facilitate P-S, i.e. being very large, having at least one tax haven affiliate, and owning Intellectual Property. Yes, it does. My study investigates the question, 'does tax cost deter FDI?' by employing a rich dataset of bilateral FDI between the OECD developed countries and developing countries. The argument posed in the study is – 'tax cost deters FDI as it straightway reduces the profitability of multinational firms'. The contribution of the study to the empirical literature of international economics is noteworthy. It adds to the literature by estimating the partial effect of tax cost on FDI while drawing on the gravity framework as its analytical approach. By utilizing the empirical exercise, the study draws the inference that the tax cost indeed substantially deters FDI. Furthermore, the study explores – 'how does parent's tax system – the worldwide tax system and the territorial tax system affect the sensitivity of FDI to tax cost?' The study affirms that FDI reacts differently depending on the parents' tax system. The study also examines the effect of host-country differences on the responsiveness of FDI to tax cost. As an aspect of globalization, migration involves the movement of people from one nation or location to another. These types of movements are for several reasons, but culture becomes one critical aspect to consider. This is because different countries have different beliefs, norm systems, ways of working, food and religious systems. When these people come together, the natives are likely to learn more about the immigrant culture and vice versa. Therefore, this paper tries to consider the pros and cons that come with cultural globalization, basing the arguments on the migration aspect. It should be emphasized here that the globalization of forced migration, which has recently been particularly characteristic of the countries of Eastern and South-Eastern Europe towards the European Union, carries with it a risk for the countries of the European Union, but also a huge potential of intellect, culture and education. That type of mainly young intellectuals not only raise the economy in those countries but also modernize the multiculturalism and tradition that they bring with them. modern migrants a large percentage of the forced migration of several million people from Ukraine, then from the countries of the Western Balkans and of course from Africa. North Macedonia is not excluded from this trend, which as a multinational and multicultural community annually produces about 12,000 migrants, mainly in the countries of the European Union and a small part in the USA. Our research was conducted through the UNESCO office in the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of North Macedonia and the Statistics Office. Fluctuation on a daily and annual basis was the focus of our research, as was the affiliation of the fluctuating body.
