This cross‐sectional study investigated nonconventional therapies for COVID‐19 in Trinidad, emphasizing the need for documentation supporting future pharmaceutical research. The survey, conducted from June 20 to July 19, 2022, garnered responses from 57 participants aged 18 and above, with 82.46% vaccinated. The majority (81%) utilized both conventional and nonconventional therapies, revealing insights for potential alternatives to traditional treatments. Conventional treatments, including antibiotics, Ivermectin, anti‐inflammatories, analgesics, bronchodilators, and cough/flu syrups, were frequently reported. Nonconventional therapies encompassed vitamins, minerals, supplements, and various plant and animal products. When participants used conventional therapies, either alone or in combination with nonconventional ones, 13.21% reported side effects. These included severe thirst, headache, nausea, drowsiness, and one case of weight gain. Conversely, those exclusively using nonconventional treatments reported no side effects. Encouragingly, nonconventional therapies demonstrated promising effects in managing COVID‐19, emphasizing the need for meticulous selection, research, and development of their bioactive compounds as potential alternatives to conventional therapies. Intraocular nematodiasis is a vision-threatening disease of equine, caused by Setaria spp. This clinical presentation describes three cases of equine intraocular nematodiasis which were successfully treated with surgical and medical interventions. Upon the clinical examination, all the horses were found having moderate corneal opacities in the eyes. The swirling movements of a white thread-like worm were evident in each case in the eye. Animals were anesthetized using 10% Xylazine (1.1mg/kg) and 10% Ketamine (2.2 mg/kg) intravenously. In case number one and two, an 18G hypodermic needle connected to a 1cc syringe was inserted through the limbus to the anterior chamber of the affected eye. In case number three, an 18 G intravenous (IV) cannula was placed instead of a hypodermic needle. The needle/cannula was carefully directed towards one end of the worm and it was aspirated with a small amount of aqueous humour. Ciprofloxacin ‘eye drops’ were used thrice daily for seven days. All three cases were fully recovered within three weeks without complications. This method would provide less invasive, time-saving, costeffective, and safer techniques that can be practiced with minimum assistance and a single dose of general anesthesia even under field conditions.

The aim is to assess whether homeopathy or other unconventional methods could be used in the treatment or prevention of mastitis in cows and at the same time while measurement of basic microclimatic indicators to determine if a stable climate influences the incidence of mastitis. Experiment is performed in a herd of about 120 pcs of cows. Cows with proven mastitis are divided into two groups –the control and experimental group. In the experimental group selected auxiliary means according to specific methodological instruction were given to cows according to specific methodological instruction to strengthen the immunity of their organism. Other husbandry and veterinary care was maintained in the same usual extent as in the control group. In both groups the occurrence of health disorders is recorded after a specified period of time describing the method used and the required treatment time. During the experiment basic microclimatic parameters (temperature, humidity, airflow, cooling value) are monitored continuously.

BACKGROUND: Diarrhoea is one of the leading causes of infant mortality. This article analyzes its contribution towards the realization of millennium development goal number 4 (MDG-4). METHODS: A PubMed search using keywords: infant diarrhoea, together with ,prevalence, management, or prevention. 23 of the 634 generated articles were reviewed for inclusion. RESULTS: WHO first expressed concern about diarrhoeal mortality in 1979. Two decades later it reported diarrhoea as the second leading cause of infant mortality worldwide. The annual death toll of 1.5 million is greater than AIDS, malaria and measles combined. Short term repercussions (dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, malnutrition, shock, death) plus long-term diminished fitness index, cognitive function, and school performance have major impact on society. Ever since its 1971 success, Oral Rehydration Therapy has been the cornerstone treatment of diarrhoea. Decreased compliance has been recorded worldwide with Kenya ranking first. Intravenous therapy is useful in preventing complications while anti-diarrhoeals and anti-microbials, are indicated in severe cases. Zinc supplementation has also proven effective, and is recommended along with rehydration. Furthermore, immunization and good hygiene prevent faecal-oral transmissions. CONCLUSION: MDG-4 aims to reduce childhood mortality by 2/3 by 2015. Studies, however, show minimal progress, and the target is likely to be missed. Efforts must therefore be made to review existing strategies and formulate newer ones. Research priorities need to move away from perceived 'killer diseases' since far more children die in a day than have ever died from avian influenza for example.
