The aim of the work is to develop an algorithm functioning by a face recognition system using object-oriented databases. The system provides automatic identification of the desired object or identifies someone using a digital photo or video frame from a video source. The technology includes comparing pre-scanned face elements from the resulting image with prototypes of faces stored in the database. Modern packages of object-oriented databases give the user the opportunity to create a new class with the specified attributes and methods, obtain classes that inherit attributes and methods from super classes, create instances of the class, each of which has a unique object identifier, extract these instances one by one or in groups, and also download and perform these procedures. Using a convolutional neural network in the algorithm allows the transition from specific features of the image to more abstract details.

Following Hans-Jörg Rheinberger's epistemological concept we show how a generic element of synthetic biology, the 'biological switch', can be integrated into an experimental system. Here synthetic biology is assumed to be a technoscience. Hence, the biological switch becomes a technoscientific research object. Consequently, the experimental system has to be analyzed in a technoscientific experimental setting, showing differences in comparison with the former. To work out the specific properties of the technoscientific experimental system, biological switching behavior (bistability) is compared with the scientific research object laser light in its classical setting. For the analyses, both the laser light and bistability, enabling a biological switch, are considered as epistemic things connected by the same theoretical concept of phase transitions. The so-called Schlögl model is used to model both biological switching behavior and induced emission of radiation and becomes an epistemic thing in itself. It becomes clear that the answer, whether one is dealing with the emission of laser light or with bistable switching behavior, is linked to the perspective taken. The technoscientific orientation towards applications and the development of basic scientific theories require different perspectives on one and the same epistemic thing, here also represented by the model. The research objects of synthetic biology as a technoscience thus also enter into the corresponding experimental systems as techno-epistemic objects. The paper describes the software tool implemented by Melentiev Energy Systems Institute SB RAS, aimed to solve wide range of energy issues. In this article, the Computing and Information System (CIS) means a software tool that provides collection, transfer, processing, storage, geo-visualization, and output of digital technical and economic data of different energy/power entities. Besides, this tool is incorporated within a mathematical model for optimization of expansion and operating modes of power systems. The paper discusses the example of how data storage and data representation in object-oriented database assist to improve efficiency of research prospective electric power systems expansion and operation.

With the rapid development of the Internet, XML has become the defacto standard for integrating and exchanging data. Since more and more business data are stored in object-oriented database, we study the methodology of modeling fuzzy spatiotemporal data and transforming fuzzy spatiotemporal data from object-oriented databases to XML as well. In order to allow for better and platform independent sharing of fuzzy spatiotemporal data stored in an object-oriented format, we devise a fuzzy spatiotemporal data model in object-oriented database to capture the semantics of spatiotemporal features. In particular, XML schema best describes the existing fuzzy object-oriented schema, and we investigate the transforming rules of spatiotemporal data from fuzzy object-oriented database to XML. Furthermore, an instance demonstrates the validation of our approach. Such approach of transformation can provide a significant consolidation of the interoperability of fuzzy spatiotemporal data from object-oriented databases to XML.

The rapid development of the Internet promotes that XML is increasingly accepted as a medium for integrating and exchanging data. Meanwhile, object-oriented database with many excellent properties has been applied more and more widely. In particular, considering the need of processing the fuzzy spatiotemporal data existing in practical applications, we study the methodology of building fuzzy spatiotemporal data model and transforming fuzzy spatiotemporal data from XML to object-oriented database as well. To establish a suitable model, we devise a fuzzy spatiotemporal data model in XML to capture the semantics of fuzzy spatiotemporal features. In addition, we take the object-oriented schema that best describes the exciting fuzzy XML Schema and the characteristics of the XML tree structure into account to develop a series of rules to map spatiotemporal data from XML to object-oriented database. In this work, we propose a concurrency control scheme in object-oriented database (OODB). Since an OODB provides complex modeling power than the conventional relational databases, a concurrency control technique in OODB is also rather complicated and has influence on the overall performance. Thus, it is very important to develop a concurrency control technique with less overhead. The proposed scheme deals with class hierarchy that is a key concept in OODBs. The proposed scheme is developed on implicit locking scheme. Also, the proposed scheme is designed using data access frequency in order to reduce locking overhead than implicit locking. It means that, if access frequency information is not available, the proposed scheme works just like the existing implicit locking, In our work, the correctness of the proposed scheme is proved. An important percent from information systems use databases and in the majority of cases for developing such systems are used object oriented programming languages. From this point of view a key aspect is represented by the database querying features. The authors has observed a major gap between querying features of persistence mechanisms and the requirements for developing true object oriented software applications. Consequently, authors propose a new syntax for SQL SELECT statement, syntax that will allow to client applications to retrieve objects graphs.

The Semantic Web uses ontological descriptions, in particularly Web Ontology Language OWL, as a universal medium to formally describe and exchange knowledge of various domains. Currently, many OWL ontologies for different domains come into being successively. Therefore, how to store OWL ontologies becomes one of ordinary needs of the Semantic Web. Based on the efficient storage mechanism of object-oriented databases, they may be used to store OWL ontologies for realizing the management of large amounts of knowledge in the Semantic Web. To this end, the main objective of this paper is to investigate how to store OWL ontologies in object-oriented databases, and we propose a formal approach and develop a prototype tool for storing OWL ontologies in object-oriented databases. Firstly , after giving a complete formal definition of OWL ontologies, we propose an overall architecture of storing OWL ontologies in object-oriented databases. Based on the architecture, we further give storage rules and explain how to store OWL ontologies in object-oriented databases with a running example in detail. The correctness and quality of the storage approach are proved and analyzed. Finally , we implement a prototype tool which can store OWL ontologies in a widely used open source object database db4o. Also, a query interface is developed in the prototype tool for querying the stored OWL ontologies.
