SPANIARDS , *FACTOR structure , *SOCIAL context , *BASIC needs , *SELF-evaluation - Abstract
Basic psychological needs theory (Deci & Ryan, 2000) is an interesting approach to understand the dynamics of romantic relations. Having valid and reliable instruments will allow assessment of the romantic relationship from this perspective. The aim of this study is to present the development of a Spanish version of the Partner Behaviours as Social Context (PBSC, Ducat & ZimmerGembeck, 2010) scale. Through two studies, the factor structure originally proposed is analysed, determining scale reliability and validity. The results confirm the six-dimension structure, although with some differences. It can be concluded that the proposed scale is an especially interesting instrument for the study of relationships in Spanish-speaking youth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

JEALOUSY , *DATING (Social customs) , *SELF-esteem , *GENDER differences (Psychology) , *HETEROSEXUALITY - Abstract
The purpose of the present study was to investigate the levels of jealousy behaviors in dating and self-esteem in emergent adults of both genders. A non-probabilistic sample of 300 emerging adults in an heterosexual relationship (mean age = 20.2 years, 50 % men), who lived in the cities of Paraná and Viale, Argentina, was evaluated. The techniques used for data collection were the Multidimensional Jealous Inventory and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale. The results obtained indicated a high level of jealous behavior and high levels of self-esteem. With respect to differences in the level of jealousy according to gender, it was women who scored higher than men in jealousy behaviors. It was also observed that people who spent less time in a dating relationship had greater jealousy behaviors. It was detected that intrigue was a significant predictor of Self-Esteem. The intimate relationships of the older population have seldom been analyzed from a sociological perspective. This study provides novel information on what is desired in a partner after the age of 50 in Spain. The academic debate on this topic has been limited. Therefore, the contribution of this article is mainly an exploration of the empirical data. The database used is the Spanish General Social Survey prepared by the Sociological Research Center. The results indicate that personality is the most valued factor, followed by values and physical appearance. The variables with the greatest explanatory power in the estimated multinomial logit model are age, sex, level of education and cohabitation status. Educational homogamy appears among those with higher levels of education, with men more interested in physical appearance and women more interested in values and education. These last two characteristics are also more highly valued among those who are older. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

QUALITY of life , *SEXUAL excitement , *LIFE satisfaction , *SEXUAL partners , *SELF , *SPOUSES - Abstract
When forming a relationship, people can to some extent include their partner's resources, perspectives and identities in their own identity (i.e., inclusion of the other in the self, or IOS). In this study, which was conducted with 169 couples, we examine the association of three sources of IOS: (a) the IOS of one member of the relationship; (b) the IOS of their partner; and (c) the similarity of both partners' IOS with indicators of relational quality (partner conflicts, satisfaction with the relationship and sexual satisfaction) and quality of life (life satisfaction and stress). Using a multilevel approach, the results showed that higher IOS was related to higher levels of relational quality in the person and their partner, and with higher levels of quality of life in the person but not in their partner. Likewise, couples showed a strong similarity in IOS, which was indicative of higher relational quality and quality of life. These results underscore the importance of analysing the (inter)personal mechanisms and their consequences at different levels (i.e., individual and couple). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ITEM response theory , *FACTOR analysis , *POST-traumatic stress disorder , *CONFIRMATORY factor analysis , *EXPLORATORY factor analysis , *SIGNIFICANT others - Abstract
Background: Symptom accommodation by family members (FMs) of individuals with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) includes FMs’ participation in patients’ avoidance/safety behaviours and constraining self-expression to minimise conflict, potentially maintaining patients’ symptoms. The Significant Others’ Responses to Trauma Scale (SORTS) is the only existing measure of accommodation in PTSD but has not been rigorously psychometrically tested. Objective: We aimed to conduct further psychometric analyses to determine the factor structure and overall performance of the SORTS. Method: We conducted exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses using a sample of N = 715 FMs (85.7% female, 62.1% White, 86.7% romantic partners of individuals with elevated PTSD symptoms). Results: After dropping cross-loading items, results indicated good fit for a higher-order model of accommodation with two factors: an anger-related accommodation factor encompassed items related largely to minimising conflict, and an anxiety-related accommodation factor encompassed items related primarily to changes to the FM’s activities. Accommodation was positively related to PTSD severity and negatively related to relationship satisfaction, although the factors showed somewhat distinct associations. Item Response Theory analyses indicated that the scale provided good information and robust coverage of different accommodation levels. Conclusions: SORTS data should be analysed as both a single score as well as two factors to explore the factors’ potential differential performance across treatment and relationship outcomes.

CYBERSTALKING , *PSYCHOLOGY of adults , *PSYCHOMETRICS , *LEGAL costs - Abstract
Intimate partner cyberstalking is associated with significant psychosocial, economic, and legal costs for both victims and perpetrators. However, despite these significant negative outcomes, there is a paucity in instruments designed to measure this behavior. Further, many of the measures lack validation and psychometric exploration. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Intimate Partner Cyberstalking Scale (IPCS; Smoker & March, 2017). For this purpose, 595 adults of both genders (32% male; Mage = 30.08) were recruited in Argentina. Participants completed the IPCS-scale, a measure of internet trolling behavior, Dark Triad Personality scale, questions regarding use of new technologies, and demographic items. Both exploratory factor and confirmatory analyses yielded an adequate two-factor structure of the IPCS - scale (a dimension of indirect-direct cyberstalking and a dimension of indirect behaviors) with adequate internal consistency (Cronbach's alphas were .85 and 89, respectively). McDonald's consistency and composite reliability were satisfactory as well. Concurrent validity was established with measures of trolling and the use of new technologies. Also, it was detected that these variables, along with gender and dark personality, were predictors of cyberstalking. Overall, results of the current project indicate the IPCS-scale is a valid and reliable measure of assessing both direct and indirect intimate partner cyberstalking behavior in Argentina. POST-traumatic stress , *POST-traumatic stress disorder , *LIFE change events , *PEARSON correlation (Statistics) , *ADVERSE childhood experiences , *TRANSITION to adulthood - Abstract
Background: Non-marital romantic relationship dissolutions (RRDs) are common among emerging adult students (EAS) and may result in severe distress and suicidality. However, studies on RRDs in youth are limited to mental health sequelae of depression and prolonged grief. Little is known about the association between RRDs and posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS), and how this compares to posttraumatic stress symptoms following a traumatogenic event. Objective: We aimed to determine the association between RRDs and PTSS in an EAS sample; and how this compared to the association between posttraumatic stress symptoms and a Diagnostic and Statistical Manual 5th edition (DSM-5) traumatic event. Method: University students (N = 2,022; female = 71.1%; 18–25 years) completed a demographic and relationship questionnaire, the Life Events Checklist, the Adverse Childhood Experiences questionnaire, and the Posttraumatic Stress Checklist (PCL). We compared EAS with an RRD (n = 886) or a DSM-5 criterion A traumatic event (n = 592) against a control group (n = 544) exposed to a non-traumatic stressful life event. Utilising ANOVAs and Pearson's correlations we determined demographic and clinical variables associated with PTSS. ANCOVA and stepwise hierarchical regression analyses were used to determine between-group differences in PTSS. Results: Total trauma exposure and adverse childhood experiences, sex, monthly income, sexual orientation, and attachment style were significantly associated with PTSS. The RRD group had significantly higher PCL scores compared to the DSM and control groups. The mean PCL scores for both the RRD and DSM groups were above the cut-off score of 33, consistent with a probable posttraumatic stress disorder diagnosis. Significantly more RRD participants (72.9%) scored above the cut-off score of 33 than DSM-5 Trauma Group participants (55.4%). Conclusion: An RRD is a potentially traumatic event and is significantly associated with PTSS, similar to a posttraumatic stress disorder diagnosis. Students may experience non-marital romantic relationship breakups as very painful, with various negative psychological, physical, and academic consequences. However, their painful experiences are often trivialised as something to 'just get over' and not acknowledged as potentially traumatic. Yet, using an attachment theory framework, breakups can be reconceptualised as subjectively traumatic. We explored the differences in posttraumatic stress symptoms of students who experienced a breakup, a traumatic event (as defined in psychiatry), and other non-traumatic life events. Students who experienced a breakup reported significantly highly posttraumatic stress symptoms. Acknowledging students' pain following a self-defined traumatic breakup can increase help-seeking behaviour and reduce the risk of intergenerational attachment trauma. Our findings warrant further research of breakups as potentially traumatogenic events. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Shared time is understood as the availability of time towards the other member of the couple and the use that is given to it. The objective of the work was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Couple Time Sharing Scale (TCP) in a sample from Entre Ríos, Argentina. Internal consistency was evaluated through Cronbach's Alpha analysis. To confirm internal validity, an Exploratory Factor Analysis was carried out. Convergent validity with satisfaction in the couple was evaluated through Pearson's r Correlation Analysis. The results allow us to affirm that the version obtained presents appropriate reliability and validity properties, and may be a relevant instrument to be administered in the Argentine population.

PSYCHOTHERAPY , *SOCIAL support , *COUPLES , *INFERTILITY , *SOCIAL stigma , *REPRODUCTIVE technology , *SOCIAL pressure - Abstract
Infertile couples seeking treatment experience a social stigma that can lead to the need for privacy and, in turn, compromise their access to social support. This multiple case study, which involved the collection of sociodemographic and health data and interviews with four heterosexual couples accessed by convenience, aimed to examine the perception of the couples about the social support received after the disclosure of the condition of infertility and/or of the assisted reproductive technology treatment. The cases were analyzed individually and comparatively. From the couples' statements, it is highlighted that all of them revealed something about infertility and/or treatment at some point in the process, although some considered not revealing it. Both support and lack of support were perceived from the revelations. The non-disclosure was motivated by self-preservation and by avoidance of social pressure. The findings indicate the importance of psychological intervention to expand the couples' social support. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article analyzes the idea that being in a couple is a physical and mental necessity to face life accompanied instead of being alone. Adam Smith's work, "Theory of Moral Sentiments," is used to explore the relationship with the idea of mutual companionship. It is also mentioned that solitude can have positive aspects, such as reflection and strengthening of individual character. Additionally, the importance of empathy in a couple's relationship is highlighted. It is concluded that seeking companionship is a human need and being in a couple satisfies self-interest and complements empathy. [Extracted from the article]

This article came out of a study of the Freudian foundations related to the various functional and defensive configurations of family and couple bonds following the hypothesis that the relationships in both contexts have as their principal goal to process drives and, secondarily, obey the demands of reality and the Superego (Freud, 1905/2017; 1923/2019). Mentioned are contemporary authors' contributions to the theme, with particular emphasis on the contributions of David Maldavsky and his establishment based on psychoanalytic theory of the 10 laws that govern the bonds between individuals in a family, couple, or other grouping. Finally, based on clinical experiences, we examine family and marital pathologies resulting from situations in which the limits that differentiate individuals are abolished. It is argued that these situations constitute a transsubjectivity corresponding to a narcissistic functioning that generates fusional and adhesive relationships. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this study was to obtain validity evidence of the Escala de Ciber-Violencia en Parejas Adolescentes (Cib-VPA) in the Spanish young adults. A total of 298 undergraduate students (222 women, 75 men and 2 people who identified themselves as 'other') completed the Cib-VPA and other related measures of offline and online dating violence. Internal consistency and construct, convergent and discriminant validity were evaluated. In line with the original validation study, a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) provided evidence for an 18-item model comprising 2 subscales, with 2 factors per subscale. All had acceptable internal consistency values. Total and subscale scores correlated positively with online and offline dating violence measures, with these correlations being stronger in subscales evaluating violence in the same direction (perpetrated or victimisation). As expected, no differences were observed according to gender. This study shows validity evidences of Cib-VPA scores, which can be quickly and inexpensively administered to large samples of young adults. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
When forming a relationship, people can to some extent include their partner’s resources, perspectives and identities in their own identity (i.e., inclusion of the other in the self, or IOS). In this study, which was conducted with 169 couples, we examine the association of three sources of IOS: (a) the IOS of one member of the relationship; (b) the IOS of their partner; and (c) the similarity of both partners’ IOS with indicators of relational quality (partner conflicts, satisfaction with the relationship and sexual satisfaction) and quality of life (life satisfaction and stress). Using a multilevel approach, the results showed that higher IOS was related to higher levels of relational quality in the person and their partner, and with higher levels of quality of life in the person but not in their partner. Likewise, couples showed a strong similarity in IOS, which was indicative of higher relational quality and quality of life.

- Abstract
Jealousy is an essential or natural emotion and at the same time, it is one of the feelings that can cause the most damage in interpersonal relationships. We can define jealousy as a dynamic emotion that appears in that state or situation where the individual feels threatened by the various circumstances that may be occurring in their environment. Meanwhile, we can define sexual guilt as the tendency to feel guilty for violating norms about acceptable sexual behaviors in society. This research was developed under a quantitative approach, to identify the relationship that may exist between jealousy and sexual guilt. The Types of Jealousy Scale developed by Buunk et al. was used. (2012) and the revised Guilt Inventory (Mosher, 1998). The sample was non-probabilistic, made up of 48 women and 46 men. The different sociodemographic data were analyzed to have a more in-depth analysis of whether these can have an impact on the relationship between jealousy and sexual guilt. Finally, although a relationship between jealousy and sexual guilt was not found, it was identified that sociodemographic data such as age is related to the types of jealousy and the time of relationship with sexual guilt and its factors., Los celos son una emoción esencial o natural y al mismo tiempo, es uno de los sentimientos que pueden causar más daño en las relaciones interpersonales.

- Abstract
Introduction: Emotional dependence is a maladaptive pattern, in which the person tries to meet emotional needs with other individuals. Marital satisfaction is the subjective and global valuation that a person has towards his or her partner and his or her relationship. Objective: To determine the correlation between emotional dependence and marital satisfaction in adult women. Method: The research is quantitative correlational, non-experimental and cross-sectional. The Emotional Dependence Questionnaire (EDC) and the Pick and Andrade Marital Satisfaction Scale were administered to 102 adult women. Results and conclusions: No correlation was found between the total scores of emotional dependence and marital satisfaction; however, the scale of satisfaction with the emotional aspects of the spouse had a slight negative relationship with affective expression of the partner, modification of plans, attention seeking and emotional dependence. Thus, the higher the satisfaction with the emotional aspects of the spouse, the lower the emotional dependence, affective expression of the partner, modification of plans and attention seeking. The mean score of emotional dependence is 60.88 and that of marital satisfaction is 56.9.

NARRATIVE therapy , *COMPLEXITY (Philosophy) , *REFLEXIVITY , *WELL-being , *ANCHORAGE - Abstract
Objective. To understand and mobilize processes of adaptation and change in couples that presented relationship dynamics configured as violent from reflexivity in articulation with narrative therapy. Methodology. This intervention research has a qualitative approach. It was developed through a multiple case study in the city of Bogotá (Colombia) with two couples of legal ages, based on proposed conversational narrative scenarios. The process of analyzing the results was carried out through semantictype deductive categories from the paradigm of the sciences of complexity in a systematic order. Results and conclusion. On the one hand, anchorage between the concepts adaptation and change is identified from a dialogical, recursive and simultaneous possibility where the dynamics that generated violence limited the emergence of novelties, the resources of evolution and the processes of well-being in couples. On the other hand, the simultaneous articulation of reflexivity and narrative therapy allowed reflection scenarios as an identity reinvention of the participating systems. Finally, the identity of the couple is recognized as a process that enables adaptive novelties. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Cyber dating abuse is a public health problem that requires valid and reliable evaluations. The objective of this study was to cross-culturally adapt and evaluate the psychometric properties of the Cyber Dating Abuse Questionnaire (CDAQ) for Mexican youth. Method: 1158 young students from 18 to 24 years old participated, 62.9 % were women. In the verification of the linguistic equivalence phase, four words from the original version in Spanish were adapted. Results: Acceptable fit indices were found in the confirmatory factor analysis, in addition, convergent and discriminant validity of the factors was found, except between the factors of victimization and perpetration of Direct Aggression. Evidence of divergent validity was found with quality of life and convergence with risk behaviors. Total reliability was greater than .87. Conclusions: The findings suggest that CDAQ could be a useful questionnaire to assess cyber dating abuse among young Mexicans. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

EXPLORATORY factor analysis , *METROPOLITAN areas , *COUPLES , *TEST validity , *CARE of people - Abstract
Good treatment refers to the ability of people to take care of each other. Research on good treatment has focused on social, health and educational fields. However, it has not been explored in the couple's case. The purpose of the study was to develop a scale to measure good treatment in the relationship of men and women in Mexico City and its metropolitan area. An instrumental study was carried out in which 800 people participated. Construct validity was obtained from an exploratory factor analysis. The scale of good treatment in the couple relationship was made up of four subscales: meaning (alpha = .95), reasons (alpha = .95), consequences (alpha = .97) and strategies (alpha = .95). It was concluded that good treatment in couples in Mexico is linked to the expression of affection, respect and care of the other. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this paper is to study the relationship between attachment and satisfaction with the partner relationship, considering the mediating role of emotional competences, and taking into account the influence of gender, age, and duration of the relationship. 265 Spanish youths (59.2% women) between 18 and 36 years of age with a current partner participated in the study. The most relevant results indicate that subjects with a dismissive avoidant style show less relationship satisfaction. Along with the fearful style, they are the ones with the poorest emotional skills. Attachment anxiety and avoidance are negatively related to relationship satisfaction, being mediated by emotional regulation. The importance of developing emotional education programs in youths as a way of mitigating the effect an insecure attachment style is discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aims of this research were to analyze the presence of cyberviolence in young couples, to explore the associations between cyberviolence, emotional dependence, empathy, and filioparental relationships, and to identify predictors of cyberviolence. For this purpose, a convenience sample consisting of 469 university students was selected. They completed the following measures: The Adolescent Social Network Partner Violence Scale, the Parental Bonding Instrument, the Dating Emotional Dependence in Youth and Adolescents, and the Basic Empathy Scale. 51.9% of the sample admitted to having suffered cyber-violence, and 56.6% admitted to having perpetrated it. Boys scored higher than girls on cyberviolence and cybervictimization. It was found that the higher the level of education, the lower level of cyberviolence and the higher the number of partners, the greater the possibility of suffering cyberviolence. The scarce empirical evidence about the factors related to cyberviolence points to the need of further research on individual and family variables. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article, in which we relate attachment and family therapy, responds to one of the purposes of psychotherapy, which is to strengthen mental life. To do this, therapists must create a space of coherence, responsibility and safe limits that creates a secure base in the relationships with patients. We must take into account that the family has an essential role in the development of the individual and that the family environment is the first emotional climate in which the child lives. In order to fulfil the support that must be given between family members, different figures of attachment are generated. For this reason, we will first focus on couple and attachment relationships, their different styles, the choice of partner and the parallels between these romantic adult relationships and between the baby and his or her caregivers. Secondly, we have analysed parenthood and attachment by evaluating parental skills and pointing out the indicators of good treatment of parents and children, also making a brief approach to the particularities of the adoption process. Finally, we will give our more practical view of the work with families, concluding the importance, from our point of view, of addressing attachment not only inside the family members but also between the family and the therapists. Objective: To analyse health differences among partnered individuals in Spain aged 65-81 considering their combined (education of both partners and age gap) and household (economic capacity of the household) characteristics. Method: A cross-sectional study of the 2015 Spanish sample of the European Union Statistics on Income and Living Conditions survey (EU-SILC) on partnered individuals aged 65-81 years (N = 1787). Using logistic regression models separately for women and men we obtained odds and predicted probabilities of having less than good health (95% confidence intervals) according to combined information from both partners on education and age, the household's economic capacity and partner's health status. Results: Probabilities of not having good health are significantly less among lower educated women whose partners are more highly educated (compared to both partners being lower educated) and among women whose partner is younger or has good health status. The latter also applies to men. Living in a household without economic difficulties also favours health (both sexes). Conclusions: For both sexes a partner's health status is the variable that shows the largest effect on elderly partnered Spanish people's health but women's health appears to be more sensitive to their partner's educational attainment and the household's economic situation.
