Ethics plays an essential role in the philosophical framework of Abū Bakr al-Rāzī. Although most of his philosophical works have become extinct, two surviving works serve as primary sources for understanding his ethical theory. Although sharing certain foundational principles, these two works diverge in terms of ethical standards and exhibit distinct logical approaches to ethics, a facet that has largely remained unexplored within contemporary scholarly discourse. I aim to extract and reconstruct both of his ethical decision-making systems by shedding light on the place of ethics in his philosophy, explaining the interconnection of the two ethical frameworks, reconstructing both of these ethical systems, and finally presenting them in patterns. Objective: Examine changes in graduate student health and well-being in the first semester. Participants: Full-time, first-semester graduate students (N = 74) from a midsized midwestern university. Method: Graduate students were surveyed prior to starting their master's program and 10 weeks later. Passion for academics, basic psychological needs, physical and mental health symptoms, positive and negative affects, and quality of life were assessed. Results: Need satisfaction, harmonious passion, and indicators of well-being decreased across the first semester, whereas need frustration and indicators of ill-being increased over the first semester. Obsessive passion, harmonious passion, need satisfaction, and need frustration were associated with students' well-being at the end of the semester, with need frustration being the most robust predictor. Conclusions: Although most graduate students reported good general health and moderately low mental health symptoms, findings suggest that a need supportive environment may contribute to better health and well-being. This paper examines Aquinas' and Albert's respective interpretations of the term "motion" in Damasecene's definitions of the passion. Although they have a common understanding of the term within an Aristotelian context, they hold differing attitudes toward it: Albert denies that passion is motion, saying that it is quality left from motion, whereas Aquinas affirms the notion of passion as motion. In this paper I expound on the difficulties Albert has with the term and how Aquinas resolves them. I argue that Aquinas successfully addresses the Albert's difficulties, thus establishing a foundation for a more refined understanding of human psychology in relation to ethical behaviour. LIFE history interviews ,BUSINESSPEOPLE ,PRODUCT quality ,ENTREPRENEURSHIP - Abstract
Craft-based ventures draw on associations with tradition, place and quality to differentiate their products from mass-produced counterparts. However, 'place' in the context of craft entrepreneurship is both underexamined and undertheorized, with extant research predominantly focused on the positive impact of place. We argue that this perspective ignores the impact of place on craft entrepreneurs' passion when place is not viewed as conducive to creative expression. Within this paper, we draw on affordance theory to extend understanding of how craft entrepreneurs' passion is shaped by place, the impact on entrepreneurial behaviour and how that relationship may evolve over time. Our empirical data that are situated in Northern Ireland span 18 years and detail 13 longitudinal cases constructed through life history narrative accounts. Our findings validate the importance of the interaction between place and passion as a source of ideas and persistence and interestingly underscore that craft entrepreneurs may minimize signifiers of place to protect their passion. As a result of our adoption of affordance theory, our study demonstrates that the relationship to place can evolve and change over time, and as such, craft entrepreneurs draw on, conceal, accommodate and celebrate place and space, in their journeys as craft entrepreneurs. ABSTRACT Both classical and contemporary definitions of education emphasise the development of learners and the discovery of their potential. The period of systemic education at all stages is an opportunity to seek this potential both at school and outside it. These are the circumstances of the development of abilities, interests and passions. In the educational process and in the modern world, the most valued are people who are creative, entrepreneurial, open to new experiences and have a passion—since it provides energy, gives wings, is a source of a sense of freedom and meaning and helps maintain well‐being. This study aimed to explore passion profiles, considering their dimensions and categories, and the respondents' field of study and gender, in a sample of Polish university students (n = 2720). The online Self‐Report Passion Inventory (SRPI) was used. Cluster analysis identified three latent profiles, differentiated by the perceived benefits of passion, its origin and its balance with other life activities. In addition, we identified categories of passionate activities typical of each profile. Field of study and gender were represented in similar ways in the distinguished profiles, indicating the universal nature of passion. The qualitative analysis of the results revealed potential reasons for the difficulties respondents experienced while categorising passionate activities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study relies on the dual model of passion to explore the direct and conditional effect of passion on firm growth. The study proposed persistence and environmental uncertainty as pathways through which passion influences firm growth. The model of firm growth was tested on a sample of 381 small-scale businesses located in Nigeria. The findings suggested that passion is significantly related to firm growth and that persistence partially mediated the link between passion and firm growth. Furthermore, the study failed to establish the conditional effect of environmental uncertainty on the indirect effect of passion on firm growth. The study has established the applicability and relevance of the dual model of passion in the context of entrepreneurship confirming its predictive power in accounting for the variation in firm growth. This article presents a new, RELIC (Real Love In Context) theory of love. The theory contains three subtheories. Two of them constitute an endosystem, or inner system of love. The triangular theory, an interpersonal theory, describes love in term of the intimacy, passion, and commitment one feels toward another person. The theory of love as a story, an intrapersonal theory, describes stories that characterize one's ideal depiction of what love should and potentially could be. The third, extrapersonal subtheory constitutes an ecosystem, or outer system of love. Drawing on the work of Urie Bronfenbrenner, it describes five hierarchically nested environmental systems (microsystem, mesosystem, exosytem, macrosystem, chronosystem) in which love is embedded and that continually affect the love one feels for another. The forces of the ecosystem act upon the endosystem in ways that can bring couples (or larger groups) together or drive them apart. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Both the Dualistic Model of Passion and Self-Determination Theory suggest that the persistence of a behaviour over time derives from the internalisation of the passion or motivation that the individual feels about the activity. However, the integration of these theoretical assumptions may lead to a better understanding of related outcomes, in particular on subjective well-being (SWB). In this context, this study aimed at systematically reviewing the relation between passion, behaviour regulation (i.e., self-determined motivation), and SWB in sport. The PRISMA 2020 protocol was used to guide the systematic review. Electronic searches were conducted in the Web of Science database and Pubmed. The following descriptors were used: SWB; passion; motivation; behavioural regulation; and sport. After the search, 12 studies were retrieved for analysis that show us the following results tendencies: harmonious passion (HP) and autonomous motivation (AM) (i.e., more self-determined forms of behaviour regulation) are positively related to SWB (i.e., life satisfaction and positive affect), while obsessive passion (OP) and controlled motivation (CM) (i.e., less self-determined forms of behaviour regulation) are negatively associated with SWB. However, no studies were found to simultaneously analyse the three theoretical constructs. These results show us the importance of developing conditions in sport contexts that promote positive feelings that take into account athletes' development of harmonious passion and self-determined behaviour regulation, in order to achieve higher levels of well-being. Nevertheless, these results also lead us to the necessity for more studies to highlight the theoretical link between passion and motivation in the context of sport, especially regarding the mediating role of motivation in the relationship between passion and well-being. 10. Quantifying first-year student musicians' 'calling': Initial implications for professional preparation curriculum design.

- Abstract
Over the last decade, vocation preparation formal and informal education has been included in higher music education programs with the purpose to responsibly supplement students' technical performance skills and graduate sustainable musicians. Such curriculum reform is continually met with mixed responses by students and faculty despite the increased precarity of the music profession within the current global context. This study evolved from one music vocational preparation educator's observation that student resistance is potentially based in one's passion for music, capacity for resilience and self-discipline, and perceived calling to pursue a music profession. From 2018 to 2022, first-year music students of an Australian metropolitan conservatoire enrolled in a vocation preparation unit were invited to participate in an online survey answering open and closed questions related to their professional activity and outlook, and personal perceptions of calling, passion, resilience, and discipline. Statistical and thematic analysis of the results were compared with a similarly designed prior study of professional Australian musicians and found that more than two-thirds of first-year student musicians were professionally active. All yearly cohorts consistently strongly agreed they were passionate about music, and agreed they possessed high and calling resilience. The year 2020 demonstrated insight to pandemic impact with more students viewing their professional future with trepidation, yet demonstrated the highest results for passion and resilience. Calling, passion, and resilience literature further served to interpret the data and subsequently suggested higher music education reform their curriculum and pedagogies by adopting a whole-of-program approach enabled by the contagion effect of calling, and alignment with students' passion, values, and music identities. Sport specialization and intensive training programs are becoming increasingly popular, but there is an ongoing debate as to their value. This study explored how children experience arduous, specialized training and whether they find it enjoyable and meaningful. We also examined their perspective of what parental involvement they needed. One hundred three participants filled out an online questionnaire. Results demonstrated that the participants were almost without exception highly committed to their training. They acknowledged the documented downsides, such as long hours, pain, and repetition, but expressed resounding commitment, giving little indication that they looked for change. They admitted that they preferred their parents not to be involved with their coaching and disclosed that showing pride for them was their main wish. This study demonstrates that passion can engender powerful commitment and satisfaction from training that may be sometimes considered by others as too challenging for a young person to undertake. This research examines passion and self-efficacy through experience and knowledge, as motivational factors that support entrepreneurs within the gig economy (GE). It sheds light on entrepreneurs’ sources of passion in the GE literature. The sample is composed of all the 1164 entrepreneurship activities offered worldwide through Airbnb, Tour by Locals, and Withlocals on 5 May 2022. The study is supported by unsupervised machine learning mod-els and seeks to find latent topics emerging from the analysis of the entrepreneurs’ descriptions and exposes the main correlated clustered dimensions. There are six main motivators behind GE platforms as a first step toward entrepreneurship: Experience, Passion for share, Knowledge, Classic traditions, Empowered community and local activities, and Well-being. It also confirms the correlation between passion and self-efficacy through experience, pointing them as main factors behind entrepreneurship in the GE. Five of the six sources of passion previously pointed by theory were found: Passion for growth, for people, for product/service, for innovation and for so-cial mission. This study discloses self-efficacy and the sources of passion and points directions to practitioners involved in entrepreneurial activities in the GE ecosystem. This work used machine learning models to access quantitatively a paradigm that is inductive by nature. The results point to well-being as a significant factor to be addressed in future research regarding entrepreneurship. This research only studies individuals involved in the GE; as such, further studies should cohort new populations from different fields.

Kant is usually considered a cold moralist who does not give any importance to feeling and emotions. In this paper I show that Kant has a place for love although he uses this word in different meanings through his work. I will analyze the use and meaning of five different uses of the term love: self-love, practical love, love as affect, love as passion, and sexual love. I show that Kant has a place for love in his theory, in a plurality of shades and meanings, going from the practical love to romantic love. Some of their expressions are meaningful for the moral life, such as practical love, some are not. Kant portrait romantic love as a silly affect, sometimes as a dangerous passion who can even call for medication. And about sex, he claims that it is nothing but the use of the other as a means, which may obtain a higher juridical status if this use is reciprocal, in the case of marriage.

Working has become a routine for the majority of people worldwide, and workaholism remains a significant topic of discussion. Researchers suggest that workaholism has negative effects that can disrupt life outside of work. Individuals, especially Millennials and Gen Z, often channel their energy and passion into their work. In psychological studies, workaholism can be understood as obsessive work behavior through the concept of passion. Various studies have established a relationship between obsessive passion for work and workaholic behavior. Other studies indicate that individuals with workaholic tendencies tend to have low environmental mastery. This study examines the relationship between workaholism, passion, and environmental mastery. Among 217 employees from PT. XYZ's insurance sector, self-reports were collected using the DUWAS, Passion Scale, and Environmental Mastery scales. Participants included 123 (56%) men and 94 (43%) women. SEM was used to analyze the path between various dimensions. The results showed a significant positive relationship between Environmental Mastery (EM) and Harmonious Passion (HP) (p = 0.000), indicating that higher EM correlates with higher HP. A significant positive relationship was also found between EM and Obsessive Passion (OP) (p = 0.006). However, no significant relationship was found between HP and Working Compulsively (WC) (p = 0.607) or Working Excessively (WE) (p = 1.186). In contrast, OP showed significant positive relationships with both WC (p = 0.004) and WE (p = 0.004). This study is the first to explore these relationships and serves as a reference for intervention programs on workaholism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Research indicates that entrepreneurs are relying on digital technology for their entrepreneurial endeavours, yet there is little knowledge on how to balance technology usage and wellbeing. Drawing on the concept of technostress and 643 observations of nascent South African entrepreneurs' interactions with digital technology, we advance knowledge at the technostress–entrepreneurship nexus. Partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) results reveal how digital self-efficacy moderates their behaviour and inability to balance digital technology usage with wellbeing. These results confirm entrepreneurship passion and perceived behavioural control as predictors of technostress amongst these entrepreneurs. They also suggest that the benefits of digital technology are not a predictor of technostress in African entrepreneurship; thus, extending a conceptual overlay of digital technology, digital self-efficacy, entrepreneurial passion (EP), and behaviour to define the mechanisms underlying a technostress–entrepreneurship nexus. The results show social, policy, and research implications in today's technology-driven environments characterised by a mixture of midrange to complete digital transformations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The meaning of playing online games is important to explore to understand why playing online games is a passionate activity for enthusiastic and problematic gamers. Semi-structured interviews were used to collect data from 20 gamers (Male, 19-24 years old) who intensely play online games. Through the interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) technique, the meaning of the essential or basic things from the participants life experiences was sought. The results showed that the experience of craving and urge emerged as themes in the decision-making process to continue playing online games even though they realized the negative impact of being too fixated on playing games. Background: During the critical formative years of college, active participation in sports not only helps to alleviate stress, but also promotes the development of healthy habits. Although the multifaceted benefits of exercise have been widely recognized, there is a relative dearth of research on the relationship between personality traits, particularly college students' self-oriented perfectionism (SOP), and exercise participation. Methods: A questionnaire survey of 374 college students was conducted using the snowball sampling method. SPSS 26.0 and Mplus 8.3 were employed in this study to analyze the correlations between the variables, and on this basis, the effect of SOP on exercise participation was examined. The study also used 5,000 bootstrap samples and a 95% bias-corrected confidence interval to test the significance of the mediating effects. Results: Correlation analysis showed that SOP was positively correlated with exercise participation. Harmonious passion and obsessive passion were positively correlated with SOP, and exercise participation. Further, the results of structural equation analysis revealed that SOP increased exercise participation. Harmonious passion and obsessive passion positively mediated the effect between SOP and exercise participation, respectively. Conclusion: This study provides new perspectives to better understand college students' exercise participation, emphasizing the importance of SOP and its influence on exercise participation through harmonious and obsessive passions. These findings have important implications for the development of effective exercise promotion strategies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article explores ideas of solidity in the writings of Charlotte Brontë and Virginia Woolf. It is the first study of its kind in its aim to use solidity to reconcile two writers whose literary affinities, I propose, outnumber their differences. The article demonstrates that in Brontë's Villette (1853) and Woolf's The Waves (1931), the theme of solidity manifests itself in similar forms. It will show how the lingual, written or spoken word, which offers substantial sustenance to characters, is one such form. Similarly, it will show how solidity is present in both Brontë's and Woolf's portrayal of passion, the spiritual and the sexual. The presentation of solid objects as anchors and armours, tying characters to the real world, is a third similar manifestation of solidity in these works. Finally, a very remarkable common aspect of solidity can be found in their depiction of London, the urban setting that breeds knots of hardness. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This research aims to determine and measure how identity centrality, role models, and personal traits influence entrepreneurship intention. The study adds to entrepreneurship literature by revealing entrepreneurial purpose antecedents. At the same time, this study expands on role model regulation. When they live, meet, or work with their business role models, their entrepreneurial zeal and purpose will increase because, in most countries worldwide, successful entrepreneurs are increasingly respected by society. Becoming an entrepreneur is the dream job of adults worldwide. For this purpose, the paper applied Social cognitive theory (SCT) and Identification Theory to develop the hypotheses. As a result, identity centrality and personal traits have indirectly affected the intention to start a business through entrepreneurship passion. In addition, the role model has moderated the indirect relationship of identity centrality to entrepreneurship intention through entrepreneurship passion. It takes advantage of individuals who have business identities working with role models, they will be more likely to develop their skills and knowledge, from which they will further enhance their passion for business, and the result is to promote their entrepreneurship intentions. The present analysis proposes a reading of Racine's Greek tragedy Andromaque (1667) through the guiding metaphor of addictive patterns. The author juxtaposes the behaviours of the two primary male characters, Oreste and Pyrrhus, in order to demonstrate how their resistance to their respective passions for Hermione and Andromaque can be compared to the process of recovery from substance abuse. At specific moments throughout the play, these characters each attempt to summon their willpower and overcome a desire that they know is harmful, only to end up succumbing to its intoxicating influence. Oreste and Pyrrhus alternate in their struggles to avoid relapse: as one character resists his passions, the other acquiesces, and vice versa. This vicious cycle of need drives the action of this pathetic tragedy leading up to its dénouement, in which Racine presents the repercussions of tyrannising love: insanity for Oreste, death for Pyrrhus, and political upheaval for Greece [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The main aim of the article is to analyze the conditions for pursuing professional passion in the context of professional success. An additional goal is to demonstrate that there are people among your loved ones who can be role models for pursuing your professional passion. Design/methodology/approach: The research presented in this article uses an analysis of literature in the area of professional competences. The research covered all first-year students of Management at the University of Szczecin. A research problem was posed: what is the importance of professional passion in professional success. 132 students described someone they knew who had achieved professional success. Findings: The research allowed us to draw some general conclusions. They show that professional success is facilitated by clearly defining interests and discovering passions. Passion can be realized mainly through two elements of competence: having knowledge and deepening it, as well as a broadly understood and developed personality in terms of: perseverance, patience, building good relationships, etc. Research limitations/implications: the research was conducted on a non-representative sample. It would be advisable to conduct quantitative research on a representative sample and in-depth qualitative research on the determinants of modeling career development on close relatives. Practical implications: students have people close to them who have achieved professional success by developing their passions and professional dreams. They have knowledge of how to achieve goals and implement ideas thanks to their work, persistence, consistency and relationships with others. They are also aware of the costs of pursuing their passion, which is very important in their professional and non-professional life. Originality/value: showing that an important factor in professional development is having a professional passion. Such passion is also possessed by close people, friends, family and they can therefore be role models in pursuing their own passion, but also be career advisors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: Introduction: Passion can be described as a strong inclination toward an activity and has previously been utilized to characterize numerous facets of student-athlete lives. However, the correlation between passion, injury, and burnout has not been thoroughly investigated. Therefore, the primary focus of this study is to identify the passion scores of current National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I student-athletes and describe the correlation of passion and burnout in athletes and define the potential relationship of passion with athlete injury. Methods: The research team utilized an observational study design that implemented a cross-sectional survey. Following Institutional Review Board approval and obtaining informed consent, REDCap electronic data capture tools was utilized to collect demographic information, the Passion Scale, and the Athlete Burnout Questionnaire. Correlation and multiple linear regression were used to assess the relationship between passion scores and athlete injury. Results: The average age of participants was 19.9 years old. Although sport participation characteristics were comparable between genders, females indicated significantly greater exhaustion burnout scores and obsessive passion compared to males but were otherwise comparable. General and harmonious passion showed significant negative correlations with reduced accomplishment, sport devaluation, and exhaustion burnout. Conclusion: While the results indicate that variation in both general and harmonious passion scores are associated with sport type, it is unclear whether assessment of specific sports are adequately represented within our analysis and as such, should be interpreted with caution. Future studies should focus on specific sports to better understand their association to passion, burnout, and risk of injury.

The current study sought to explore the association between passion, grit and flow and study possible differences between the genders in a sample of 529 adults in Norway. There were 323 females and 204 males. Passion was measured with the passion scale, Grit with the Grit-S scale, and flow with the General Flow Proneness scale. Results indicate that males score significantly higher on passion and flow, whereas females score higher on grit. Additionally, there were significant correlations between these constructs which differed between the sexes. Both passion and grit have been demonstrated to have a positive relationship with flow. To investigate which factor that has the strongest association with flow. We performed a multiple regression analysis. The results suggested that a model with passion and grit explained 33 % of the variation in Flow for the whole sample. Grit had the strongest relationship with flow while controlling for passion (β = 0.44). Passion had a significant and positive relationship with Flow while controlling for grit (β = 0.26). We further investigated the relative importance of passion and grit in predicting flow. Grit (lgm =0.67) was approximately twice as important as passion (lgm = 0.32) in predicting flow. These findings suggest that grit is a more critical factor in achieving flow, offering theoretical insights into how these constructs contribute to life satisfaction, well-being, learning, and achievement.

The main aim of the study was to investigate whether passion and grit varied in individuals with distinct levels of growth mindset. From an original sample of 1548 participants in the age 13 to 77 years, two groups with the 5 % highest scoring and the 5 % lowest scoring on growth mindset, respectively, were compared on their scores in passion and grit. Participants completed as a measure of Mindset the Theories of intelligence Scale (TIS). Grit-S scale was used to assess grit and to assess passion the eight item Passion Scale was used.Findings displayed that the growth mindset group with low scoring had significantly lower score in passion and grit than the growth mindset group with high scoring, indicating that adults with low growth mindset shows lower levels of passion and grit related to their peers with a high-level score. These results may probable be significant for better understanding of the relationship between these constructs positively related to life satisfaction, well-being, achievement, and learning. Additionally, acquiring a better picture of what indicate individuals with different levels of growth mindset can increase our comprehension of how to increase motivation, pursue long-term goals and maintain effort in different groups. It can be argued that growth mindset should be all encompassing in our society. Both in schools, sports, working life and within the walls of the family.

Abstract Background A large body of evidence suggests that some people have a strong, obsessive attachment to a favorite celebrity. The absorption-addiction model attempts to account for this extreme attachment, sometimes labeled “celebrity worship.” According to the model, a small portion of celebrity admirers (“celebrity worshipers”) become absorbed in the personal lives of celebrities to compensate for perceived personal or social deficiencies. The purpose of this study is to examine how the absorption-addiction model relates to broader psychological theories that include non-celebrity contexts. Specifically, we examine how the absorption-addiction model relates to three theories: empty-self theory, extremism theory, and the dualistic model of passion. Methods Participants (N = 399; 77.94% women, M age = 19.91 years, SD = 3.24) completed an online questionnaire measuring attraction to favorite celebrities. Constructs representing the three broader theories were compared to a measure of attraction to one’s favorite celebrity. Results Sense of emptiness, obsessive passion, and extremism were positively associated with celebrity attraction. The strongest association was found with extremism, though the effect was moderate. Conclusions These findings suggest that extremism theory is the best fit of the three broader theories explaining celebrity worship, although its contribution to understanding celebrity worship is modest.

WORKMANSHIP ,EMPLOYER branding (Marketing) ,CONSUMERS ,LUXURIES ,CUSTOMER experience - Abstract
Craftspeople represent essential touchpoints in the creation process of luxury experience. The industry faces increasing difficulties in attracting new craftspeople. Narrative interviews with craftspeople and expert interviews with executives and stakeholders reveal that managers recognise the importance of craftsmanship for consumers' luxury experience. They use craftsmanship as abstract communication content instead of recognising craftspeople as human beings that contribute to brand experience. Low regard for craftsmanship and a lack of knowledge about the work of luxury craftspeople are the main barriers for selecting this occupation. Direct experience of craftspeople at work and passion for creative activities are major drivers. Luxury marketing and human resource managers should cooperate in aligning customer experience management with employer branding to inspire consumers and potential craftspeople. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Asylum seeker and refugee supporters work to provide services, legal advice, home visits; engage in advocacy; and protest the harsh immigration context that is associated with the Australian government. The passion supporters feel for the 'cause' burns bright, yet years and sometimes decades of support can take a personal toll. This article draws on ethnographic data collected between July 2019 and October 2020 in Adelaide, South Australia, with asylum seeker and refugee supporters. We argue that despite displaying many of the features classically associated with notions of burnout, supporters are more likely to 'burn down', rather than out. This is because the passion associated with the commitment to asylum seeker and refugee causes is hard to extinguish. We suggest that supporters suffer from 'passion fatigue,' yet through the mitigating practices of retreat and debriefing they can protect themselves from the worst forms of burnout and permanent disengagement. The dualistic model of passion has been linked to several psychological constructs related to well-being in runners. Evidence suggests that investigating the interaction of passion subtypes might increase our understanding of the relationship between passion and indices of well-being. This study used both person- and variable-centered analyses to investigate the relationship between passion, multidimensional well-being, and psychological distress in 219 adult marathon runners. We performed a canonical correlation multivariate analysis to determine the relationship between passion types and psychological outcomes, as well as a multivariate analysis of variance to compare passion sub-types to indices of well-being. Results indicated that harmonious passion was significantly and positively related to multidimensional well-being and negatively related to psychological distress, while obsessive passion was significantly and positively related to psychological distress. Minor differences in well-being and distress between passion sub-type clusters were also noted. A discussion of these findings includes the potential benefit of considering the harmonious and obsessive passion subtype interaction when examining these measures of well-being in marathon runners. Surface cues such as displays of passion and physical attractiveness can affect crowdfunding outcomes. Yet the efficacy of these cues may be contingent on other attributes of the entrepreneur, such as their gender. We integrate insights from the elaboration likelihood model of persuasion with those of expectancy violation theory to develop and test a theoretical framework in which the benefit of these cues is contingent on the gender of the entrepreneur and expectancies associated with it. Furthermore, we introduce a novel measurement technique to assess individuals' implicit gender-based biases related to passion and attractiveness. Plain English Summary: Among biased investors, crowdfunding pitches work best for passionate male and attractive female entrepreneurs. Crowdfunding is a way for entrepreneurs to raise funds from a large, anonymous pool of amateur investors. To raise funds on these platforms, entrepreneurs create pitch videos to present to potential investors. When crowdfunding first emerged, there was widespread hope that it would open up new sources of funding to groups of entrepreneurs who are often shut out from traditional sources of funding, such as venture capital. But has that really happened? Or do biases that are common among professional investors also work to the disadvantage of these entrepreneurs in crowdfunding? In this paper, we answer these questions by studying the pitches of both male and female entrepreneurs and their impact on funding success. Our findings offer both a cause for optimism and for concern. On the positive side, we do find that crowdfunding can be a viable source of funding for female entrepreneurs. However, this benefit primarily goes to more attractive females. Furthermore, although being passionate in a pitch is generally a good thing, we find this benefit primarily goes to men instead of women. Without being too pessimistic, we find that these results only hold among those investors who hold certain gender-based biases pertaining to passion and attractiveness. Overall, the principal implication of this study is that biases that limit accessibility to traditional sources of funding also operate within crowdfunding. However, traditionally underfunded groups of entrepreneurs may be able to use these to their advantage. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
This paper explores the work experiences of specialty coffee baristas in São Paulo, Brazil, considering specifically the role of passion and aspiration. Through ethnographic profiles of four baristas, it reveals how the pursuit of a good life through employment extends beyond immediate economic gain, but that there are complexities in converting forms of capital within the café workplace which are shaped by Brazil’s social context and distinct histories and hierarchies around food service labor. Success and longevity in the position was shaped by baristas’ preexisting capital, and heavily mediated by socioeconomic status; although certain baristas faced more precarious trajectories, they called upon discourses of passion to mitigate challenges inherent in lower-waged food service work. By exploring the experiences and aspirations of baristas in Brazil, this paper sheds light on the complex dynamics of social mobility and labor in emerging connoisseur and artisan markets. - Abstract
The present mixed-methods cross-cultural study probed the association between bilingual English teachers’ enjoyment, passion, and desire for professional development from the Iranian and Kuwaiti teachers’ standpoints. In doing so, a random sample of bilingual English teachers (
N = 426) was chosen from educational institutions in Iran and Kuwait. Then, using self-report questionnaires and semi-structured interviews, participants’ beliefs and attitudes on the interaction of enjoyment, passion, and desire for professional development were evaluated. The results of confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) exhibited close, positive associations between Iranian and Kuwaiti teachers’ passion, enjoyment, and desire for professional development. Moreover, the results obtained from structural equation modelling (SEM) uncovered that Iranian and Kuwaiti teachers’ enjoyment and passion can positively predict their desire for professional development. However, as the results of measurement invariance revealed, some meaningful differences were found between Iranian and Kuwaiti structural models concerning the predictive role of passion and enjoyment. Additionally, according to the thematic analysis (TA) outcomes, both Iranian and Kuwaiti instructors believed that passion and enjoyment can trigger teachers to attend professional development courses. These findings may contribute to a better understanding of the role of pleasant emotions in language teachers’ motivation for professional advancement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

The Dualistic Model of Passion distinguishes between harmonious and obsessive passion, which are associated with athletes’ and coaches’ adjustments. Whereas prior research sampled either athletes or coaches, the present study used a dyadic approach to explore the bidirectional influence of passion on affective experiences in coaches and athletes. Using a cross-sectional dyadic design, 198 coach-athlete dyads involved in an individual sport at different competition levels, reported on their passion, need-based, and affective experiences. Both actor effects (i.e., intrapersonal dynamics within athletes or coaches) and partner effects (i.e., interpersonal dynamics from coach to athlete and vice versa) were examined. Furthermore, dyadic mediation models were used to investigate the potential mediating role of need-based experiences in the association between passion and affective experiences. Results unveiled compelling evidence for actor effects, indicating that one’s own harmonious passion was positively related to one’s own more adaptive outcomes and negatively to one’s own more maladaptive outcomes, whereas obsessive passion was positively related to maladaptive outcomes. Further, very limited evidence for partner effects, in which coaches’ passion affected athletes’ outcomes or vice versa, was found. The dyadic mediation models underscored the role of need-based experiences in mediating the association between passion and affective experiences, but only at the intrapersonal level. As such, one’s own passion experiences were related to one’s own need-based experiences, which in turn were related to one’s own affective experiences. The study provided no evidence for interpersonal mediation effects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article develops an original understanding of erotic love as a way of being, a lived experience distinct from passion and sex. Through literary quotations, it explores the conditions of possibility for love manifest by its emphasis, in open dialogue with philosophical references from the phenomenological tradition, and by its privation, in light of the pathologies of love as derived from passion and sex: infatuation and sexual perversion. Love and its pathologies are dialectically related to the lived processes of maturation, from the perspectives of phenomenological-structural psychopathology and literature. Following this, orgasm and art are presented as expressions of love. It also conjectures the possibility of a therapy for the pathologies of love through intersubjective openness to love; and, finally, it points to lived love as a dual experience of intercorporeal deepening, and, ultimately, an anthropological overcoming of dualism. Descartes consolidates the transition from the science of truth to the science of man. In this science a cura sui prevails, that will end up empowering the subject internally, while blurring the other. Every man could be wise. However, not through the experience of consciousness as a methodical and theoretical exercise of the soul, but through a forma vitae that taught the strengthening of the will. The form of virtue is generosity, and even though it includes the diverse forms of love, the cartesian cogito fails to escape self-referential. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

It is a commonplace the interpretation of Descartes as disinterested in moral issues. This is how Foucault reads him, for whom Modernity meant the separation between the new central subject of knowledge and the now secondary subject of praxis. In this article Descartes' work will be understood as a modern version of the philosophical art of living, where knowing and taking care of oneself are still united by a central axis, free will.
