The current study has endeavored to explore the level of perception and attitude within ESP Saudi learners toward the application of Blackboard blended based learning. The obtained data included quantitative questionnaires and qualitative semi-structured interviews to reach the aim of the study. In general, questionnaires have revealed students' positive perception and attitudes toward blended learning as a leaning technique experience. This was accompanied by some level of boredom, social isolation, teachers' late response and technical issues in the students' responses. However, semistructured interviews displayed students' relatively positive perception toward blended learning. Although, they thought it should be used in limited circumstances such as severe weather conditions. The reported issues by students were confronted, investigated, and provided with suggestions and recommendations to be overcome by the educational authorities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This research, from a cultural and historical geography approach, aims to reconstruct a process of production of images and geographical imaginaries of the Venezuelan Andes during the 18th century. Thus, we selected three texts by scholars and religious people who, in the journeys undertaken, described and narrated a distant geography, making it visible. Their impressions allow us to locate physical and imaginative connections of a type of geographical writing and their utilitarian perceptions of the Andean environment that valued its abundance or its precariousness. FOREST policy , *BROKERS , *SEMI-structured interviews , *GOVERNMENT policy on climate change , *CAPACITY (Law) - Abstract
Objective/context: In 2020, Ucayali was the Peruvian region with the highest loss of Amazonian forest (47,267 hectares). Measures have been taken regarding climate commitments and environmental governance, but the results continue without notoriety, and mitigation actions are limited. From a subnational approach, the article seeks to analyze the perceptions of brokers and actors involved about the implementation of forest policies in the Ucayali region. Methodology: Based on a qualitative strategy that included semi-structured interviews and a co-construction workshop to evidence the perceptions of the actors involved, with direct knowledge of the territory and implementation, and intermediary agents (brokers), the latter with the capacity to influence the decisions made regarding the formulation of action plans. Conclusions: The results demonstrate the existence of a structural difficulty in achieving short- or long-term change actions. There are institutional limitations but also a lack of support from civil society. Originality: Considering the type and limited number of studies on perceptions of climate change-oriented policies, the results obtained allow for generating relevant evidence for policy formulation processes and articulation between different levels of government. SALVAGE archaeology , *PUBLIC administration , *CULTURAL property , *ORAL tradition , *CARTOGRAPHY , *ARCHAEOLOGY - Abstract
The objective of the article is to identify the perceptions, meanings, and resignifications that the inhabitants of Sígsig canton, Azuay province (Ecuador), assign to archaeological heritage. It also attempts to explain how these ways of understanding and using such heritage come into conflict and friction when managed exclusively within a legal and institutional framework. To analyze the ambiguities arising from the dichotomy between public management and the local populations' uses and meanings of heritage, this study employs the theoretical frameworks of public archaeology and the methodological approach of participatory cartographies. By analyzing national and local heritage regulations and conducting interviews and mappings with actors from the educational, political, and general society sectors, it is suggested that institutional management views heritage as an identity, historical, and economic resource through tourism. Additionally, this management is characterized by a fiscalizing, regulatory, and sanctioning logic, while the inhabitants understand, incorporate, and use archaeological objects and vestiges in their daily lives. This usage fosters a direct connection with oral traditions, intangible aspects, and, above all, with nature. Thus, frictions were identified between the social and political uses of heritage, which regularly involve themes such as gold, mining, and water, within a framework of collective imaginaries and discourses. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is creating both opportunities and challenges in higher education. This article explores perceptions, concerns, barriers, and facilitators for integrating AI into academic activities. It focuses on a public university in Northern Peru, examining faculty opinions through interviews and focus groups. The findings show that faculty find generating texts and organizing activities with AI advantageous; however, some have concerns about its use, doubting its accuracy and truthfulness. They agree on discussing these changes and integrating them into the curriculum, seeking to overcome barriers through training to improve the perception and use of AI. Despite the potential and strong support of AI in the university, it is necessary to implement institutional measures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to understand the perceptions about the dissolution of adoption by psychology and social service professionals who mediated the return of children/adolescents to foster care after adoption. It was a qualitative, exploratory study with eight professionals from different districts and foster care institutions in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. A semi-structured interview was used and the results highlighted four themes: 1) terminologies, revealing that no nomenclature adequately covers the phenomenon; 2) perception about people who have given up on adoption, indicating that poorly elaborated experiences of infertility and the search for the ideal child contribute to cases of dissolution of adoption; 3) perceptions about children/adolescents who returned to care, highlighting self-blame, abandonment and regression; and 4) perceptions about the role of professionals, involving the need for team training/qualification. Understanding the perspective of professionals is essential for planning future interventions and seeking to prevent adoption dissolutions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SCHOOL year , *PUBLIC universities & colleges , *DIAGNOSIS methods , *ACADEMIC discourse , *LITERACY - Abstract
Writing is considered a complex activity, as it involves cognitive, social, psychological and emotional processes. The objective of the study is to establish a characterization of first-year students of three majors at a Chilean public university by identifying their entry written skills and the perception they have of this process within the framework of an initial academic literacy course. The methodology is mixed, exploratory, descriptive-correlational, cross-sectional, non-experimental, through two instruments: a perception questionnaire on writing practices and a diagnostic test. One of the main results of the questionnaire revealed a low knowledge in written production, focused on form, little mastery of the writing phases and incipient experience in said practices of the students in the last years of the school level. The test showed a low performance in written texts (initial basic writer and intermediate basic). This made it possible to characterize a novice writer, with basic performance in terms of writing stages, textual dimensions and writing experience. This information is projected as an opportunity to configure an appropriate pedagogical-didactic strategy proposal for a Literacy course in the first year of university. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The way in which the clinician perceives the patient and his knowledge about informed consent (IC) are reflected in practices of respect for the patient, in relation to their autonomy and privacy from an ethical, deontological and legal framework. Objective. Analyze the perceptions and practices by surgeons in relation to the respect of the autonomy of the patient during the process of taking the IC in a hospital in the city of de Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas / Ecuador. Methodology. Cualitattivo. The sample was by saturation applying a semi-structured interview. The data were analyzed using the Atlas Ti 8.0 ® program using structured category tracking. Result. Most doctors take consent as a legal and mandatory document, for fear of sanctioning processes. In addition, they usually delegate their responsibility to other professionals ignoring structural and ethical components of taking informed consent. Conclusion. It is evident that the lack of knowledge about IQ leads to perceptions, and therefore, to practices that violate autonomy and confidentiality, in addition to the respect of receiving information from the clinician who performed the intervention. CITIES & towns , *CITY promotion , *METROPOLITAN areas , *SOCIAL space , *COMMUNITY relations , *REGIONAL differences - Abstract
Aging forces us to rethink cities as an incentive for opportunities in the daily life of the olderly. After the pandemic confinement, it was applied a survey in the context of the GRAMPCITY Project, between 2020 and 2021, to 403 people with 65 years old or more from six study areas in Portugal -- Lisbon Metropolitan Area (LMA), subdivided into the city of Lisbon, North LMA and South LMA; adding three medium cities -- Aveiro, Coimbra and Faro and its areas of influence -- were asked about their living conditions, living spaces, housing context, relational dynamics and forms of mobility. This article aims 1) understand how the experiences of the olderly people, through their practices and problems, are aligned with what constitute aspects present in the Age-friendly cities, especially in the context of a pandemic; and 2) to identify regional differences between study areas. The results show constraints to quality aging, reinforced by the pandemic, such as: living on the top floors without access to an elevator; difficulty on walking or parking or the lack of food stores or social spaces; and the duality between the support provided by family members and neighbors in a pandemic and the decrease in visits to them. Thus, a regional differentiation in the practices and perceptions of the respondents became evident, distancing the metropolitan context from the reality of medium-sized cities, namely in terms of housing conditions, relations with the community and the impact that the pandemic brought to daily life. It is concluded that some of the studied aspects deserve greater attention for an effective promotion of the Age-Friendly City, requiring a specific vision of each territory and community.

Objective: Exploring nursing students' perceptions and experiences of online learning during the COVID-19 Pandemic with a mixed method. Methods: A mixed method was used and obtained ethical approval from IRB. Quantitatively 419 nursing students' perceptions were assessed using a valid and reliable Likert scale of 37 items with a Google Forms survey. Qualitatively 5 focus group discussions (6 to 8 students each) of 60 to 90 minutes from 5 respective Nursing Schools were conducted via zoom and recorded. Codes were generated using MAXQDA analytics Pro 2022 version 22.2.1. Results: 276 (65.87 %) students agreed self-discipline is necessary for online learning. 267 (63.72 %) students strongly agree that online classes reduce travel expenses. Gender had no influence on perception. Younger students showed more positive perception than older students. Senior BSN students showed positive perception compared to RN students, and associations are statistically significant at <0.001. Thematic analysis led to the following themes. Some preferred online learning due to its "flexibility" "convenience" and "access to recorded sessions". Others preferred face to face: online learning is "good for theory only", but for practical sessions face to face interactions is necessary, "sense of isolation", "no student interaction", "less student- faculty interaction". Barriers identified were "internet connectivity issues", "electricity issues" and "technological issues". Facilitators were "convenience", "reduced cost in transportation", "saves time" and opportunity to become "tech savvy". Conclusion: Online classes are suitable for theoretical aspects but require face to face interaction for practical components. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

DISTANCE education , *FORM perception , *COVID-19 pandemic , *SCHOOL year , *OPEN-ended questions - Abstract
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, distance learning began to take place. Hence, a questionnaire was conducted to 4th year of Portuguese school about their perceptions on this form of learning, with regard to technological resources and the types of tasks performed, the help provided to students, the obstacles that have arisen and the positive and negative aspects of distance learning. A qualitative research methodology was followed with the application of a questionnaire with open questions to three classes of that grade in three different schools in the north of Portugal. The results showed that there were several technological tools used for distance learning, both for synchronous classes and for carrying out school tasks. The lack of socialization with classmates, malfunctioning of technological resources, work overload and students' anxiety were the most negative aspects mentioned by them. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The present study investigated the beneficial effects induced on dancers by the two types of stretching protocol: static and dynamic stretching, in order to elevate the aesthetics of the figures and body positions to the highest level. The subjects were 20 young female dancers divided into two groups: Group DS (n=10), which performed dynamic stretching, and Group SS (n=10), a static stretching, both for six months. A survey, with the aim of assessing perceptions about the benefits induced by the type of stretching performed, and a Sit and Reach Test were administered to the dancers to assess both qualitative and quantitative aspects of flexibility. An independent samples t-test was performed to assess the differences in flexibility between DS and SS group before and after six months, and a Fisher's exact test to analyse their perceptions on the benefits induced by two training protocols. Result was statistically significant after six months and four associations were found (P <0.05). Dynamic stretching brought greater benefits both qualitatively and quantitatively. From the results of the study, it was possible to state that dancers in terms of induced benefits and satisfaction with the performance result achieved, preferred dynamic stretching. MENTAL imagery , *NEUROSCIENCES , *INTUITION , *FUNCTIONAL magnetic resonance imaging - Abstract
This article analyzes the ambiguity of an imaginary homecoming in Poema de Chile and Lagar by Gabriela Mistral, written while the Chilean poet was living abroad. In these works, her longing for Chile materializes through highly detailed perceptual scenes. Hinged on a neuroscience perspective, the analysis applies a vision of memory as a creative rather than reproductive process, the category of imagery and fmri observation of neural networks in memory and poetry creation. The hypothesis states that the creation of a poem, for Mistral and under certain circumstances, would translate into the activation of a multiperceptual mental imagery that allows her to travel through time and space to relive atmospheres, situations, and natural elements of her longed-for homeland. However, in Mistral's case this imaginary journey is quite ambivalent, since it carries the intuition of its own impossibility and converges in the subject's drive to disintegrate within the sensory elements remembered in the poems. PROFESSIONAL education , *TEACHER development , *LECTURERS , *STRUGGLE , *TWENTY-first century , *INFORMATION technology - Abstract
Information and Communications Technology (ICT) plays a crucial role in our daily life. In fact, students are considered digital citizens and have become accustomed to being always connected to their devices and the Internet. Given the importance ICT plays in our lives, education institutions nowadays have a duty to incorporate ICT into teaching and learning in order to better prepare students for 21st Century skills and careers. Although certain technological equipment may be available in classrooms, there are several external and internal factors that affect the proper implementation of ICT in classrooms. In preparing students to be career-ready, ICT integration is imperative. This paper will discuss factors affecting ESL lecturers' professional development in terms of ICT application in the classroom. A total of 61 lecturers from 12 non-English-majored universities in Vietnam voluntarily completed this quantitative study's survey questionnaire. The findings show that although ESL lecturers are aware of the significance of some factors affecting ICT implementation in classrooms, they are struggling to learn, to adapt, and to integrate ICT into their classrooms.

The objective of this paper is to analyze the perceptions and practices of clinicians in relation to the management of embryos subjected to in vitro fertilization techniques. Methodology is Qualitative (subjectivist and phenomenological). A total of 15 semi-structured interviews were conducted using saturation sampling for clinical personnel who have participated in vitro fertilization procedures. The data is analyzed with the Atlas Ti 8.0® program. Results: Clinicians consider the embryo as a Human being or future human being, in addition, deserving of respect and consideration even proposing improvements in the processes of handling and storage. Conclusion. Embryos are not considered as entities susceptible of damage from not only technical but ethical arguments. From the principialist current, the need to promote attitudes of responsibility and prudence to avoid dogmatism (moral objectivism) is described, proposing a deliberative position.
