Sales managers are unlikely to reap the benefits of implementing predictive analytics applications when salespeople show aversion to or lack understanding of these applications. For managers, it is essential to understand which factors mitigate or exacerbate these challenges. This article investigates these factors by studying the implementation of an application that predicts customer churn. Using 9.7 million transactions from a business-to-business company, the authors develop a predictive model of customer churn, implement it in a field experiment, and study its treatment effects using causal forests. Furthermore, the authors manipulate one specific mitigation strategy proposed by prior literature: the fostering of users' realistic expectations regarding the accuracy of an algorithm. The results show that the effectiveness of the churn prediction application strongly depends on customer characteristics (most importantly the predicted churn probability and prior revenue) and salesperson characteristics (technology perceptions, abilities, and selling orientations). Fostering realistic expectations improves the effectiveness of the churn prediction only under very specific circumstances. Two follow-up stimuli-based experiments conceptually replicate key results of the field study. In contrast with the accelerating trend of boundary-spanning (horizontal) technological innovation, the current Cooperative Patent Classification (CPC) scheme applies a hierarchical (vertical) structure to innovation output in terms of patents. For this reason, we argue that the CPC can be complemented with dynamic technological innovation system (TIS) discovery through machine learning that accounts for horizontal relationships across seemingly disparate technologies. Using a design science approach, we propose a framework to discover boundary-spanning TISs by leveraging the textual information from millions of patents. We validate our framework in terms of the ability of discovered relationships to predict future innovation quantity and quality in different technology classes. Our novel TIS-based innovation metrics that leverage patenting activity in related technology classes are significantly associated with future innovation intensity in focal technologies. Problem definition: Professional sports leagues may be suspended because of various reasons, such as the recent coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic. A critical question that the league must address when reopening is how to appropriately select a subset of the remaining games to conclude the season in a shortened time frame. Despite the rich literature on scheduling an entire season starting from a blank slate, concluding an existing season is quite different. Our approach attempts to achieve team rankings similar to those that would have resulted had the season been played out in full. Methodology/results: We propose a data-driven model that exploits predictive and prescriptive analytics to produce a schedule for the remainder of the season composed of a subset of originally scheduled games. Our model introduces novel rankings-based objectives within a stochastic optimization model, whose parameters are first estimated using a predictive model. We introduce a deterministic equivalent reformulation along with a tailored Frank–Wolfe algorithm to efficiently solve our problem as well as a robust counterpart based on min-max regret. We present simulation-based numerical experiments from previous National Basketball Association seasons 2004–2019, and we show that our models are computationally efficient, outperform a greedy benchmark that approximates a nonrankings-based scheduling policy, and produce interpretable results. Managerial implications: Our data-driven decision-making framework may be used to produce a shortened season with 25%–50% fewer games while still producing an end-of-season ranking similar to that of the full season, had it been played. Objectives: This study aims to develop an innovative approach for monitoring and assessing labor pain through ECG waveform analysis, utilizing machine learning techniques to monitor pain resulting from uterine contractions. Methods: The study was conducted at National Taiwan University Hospital between January and July 2020. We collected a dataset of 6010 ECG samples from women preparing for natural spontaneous delivery (NSD). The ECG data was used to develop an ECG waveform-based Nociception Monitoring Index (NoM). The dataset was divided into training (80%) and validation (20%) sets. Multiple machine learning models, including LightGBM, XGBoost, SnapLogisticRegression, and SnapDecisionTree, were developed and evaluated. Hyperparameter optimization was performed using grid search and five-fold cross-validation to enhance model performance. Results: The LightGBM model demonstrated superior performance with an AUC of 0.96 and an accuracy of 90%, making it the optimal model for monitoring labor pain based on ECG data. Other models, such as XGBoost and SnapLogisticRegression, also showed strong performance, with AUC values ranging from 0.88 to 0.95. Conclusions: This study demonstrates that the integration of machine learning algorithms with ECG data significantly enhances the accuracy and reliability of labor pain monitoring. This research focuses on applying the XGBoost algorithm to analyze and predict cayenne pepper prices. The main aim is to exploit XGBoost's exceptional capability to manage large datasets and discern intricate patterns for precise price forecasting. Cardiometabolic syndrome (CMS) is a growing concern in children and adolescents, marked by obesity, hypertension, insulin resistance, and dyslipidemia. This study aimed to predict CMS using machine learning based on data from the CASPIAN-V study, which involved 14,226 participants aged 7–18 years, with a CMS prevalence of 82.9%. We applied the XGBoost algorithm to analyze key noninvasive variables, including self-rated health, sunlight exposure, screen time, consanguinity, healthy and unhealthy dietary habits, discretionary salt and sugar consumption, birthweight, and birth order, father and mother education, oral hygiene behavior, and family history of dyslipidemia, obesity, hypertension, and diabetes using five-fold cross-validation. The model achieved high sensitivity (94.7% ± 4.8) and specificity (78.8% ± 13.7), with an area under the ROC curve (AUC) of 0.867 ± 0.087, indicating strong predictive performance and significantly outperformed triponderal mass index (TMI) (adjusted paired t-test; p < 0.05). The most critical selected modifiable factors were sunlight exposure, screen time, consanguinity, healthy and unhealthy diet, dietary fat type, and discretionary salt consumption. This study emphasizes the clinical importance of early identification of at-risk individuals to implement timely interventions. It offers a promising tool for CMS risk screening. Background: Clinical prediction models (CPM), such as the SCOAP-CERTAIN tool, can be utilized to enhance decision-making for lumbar spinal fusion surgery by providing quantitative estimates of outcomes, aiding surgeons in assessing potential benefits and risks for each individual patient. External validation is crucial in CPM to assess generalizability beyond the initial dataset. This ensures performance in diverse populations, reliability and real-world applicability of the results. Therefore, we externally validated the tool for predictability of improvement in oswestry disability index (ODI), back and leg pain (BP, LP). Methods: Prospective and retrospective data from multicenter registry was obtained. As outcome measure minimum clinically important change was chosen for ODI with ≥ 15-point and ≥ 2-point reduction for numeric rating scales (NRS) for BP and LP 12 months after lumbar fusion for degenerative disease. We externally validate this tool by calculating discrimination and calibration metrics such as intercept, slope, Brier Score, expected/observed ratio, Hosmer–Lemeshow (HL), AUC, sensitivity and specificity. Results: We included 1115 patients, average age 60.8 ± 12.5 years. For 12-month ODI, area-under-the-curve (AUC) was 0.70, the calibration intercept and slope were 1.01 and 0.84, respectively. For NRS BP, AUC was 0.72, with calibration intercept of 0.97 and slope of 0.87. For NRS LP, AUC was 0.70, with calibration intercept of 0.04 and slope of 0.72. Sensitivity ranged from 0.63 to 0.96, while specificity ranged from 0.15 to 0.68. Lack of fit was found for all three models based on HL testing. Conclusions: Utilizing data from a multinational registry, we externally validate the SCOAP-CERTAIN prediction tool. The model demonstrated fair discrimination and calibration of predicted probabilities, necessitating caution in applying it in clinical practice. The article provides a conceptually informed empirical critique of the pursuit of social licence as a warrant for data linkage and predictive analytics in the field of family policy intervention. It draws on research focusing on parental views of digitally‐driven family governance in the United Kingdom. We identify the notion of consensus that undergirds the concept of social licence that acts to obscure inequalities and silence conflict, and to reframe digital surveillance and prediction as a moral rather than political issue. Using focus group and individual interview material, we show how parents assert professional or lay experiential knowledges in making judgements about the legitimacy of and trust in operational data technologies, involving struggles between positionings as parents like 'us' and 'other' parents. We demonstrate how parents have different leverages from these unequal and morally charged social locations. Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) increases the risk complications in addition to mortality. Quantifying the risk of complications using artificial intelligence could be a way to design comprehensive patient healthcare programs. Objective: Predicting the probability of macro and microvascular complications in patients with DM through Machine Learning. Methods: Retrospective cohort study. Based on an outpatient follow-up program for diabetic patients, 64,081 records and 287 variables were identified, with highly unbalanced data. Predictive models for chronic kidney disease (CKD), lower extremity amputation (LEA), coronary heart disease (CHD), and early mortality (MOR) were developed. An exhaustive computational method was conducted to find the best combination between machine learning (ML) algorithms and sampling method. Results: The best model was determined by assessing its performance through the heuristics obtained from a comprehensive analysis of the accuracy and F1 values for ML, sampling, and dataset. Regarding each complication, 99.9% accuracy was obtained for LEA, 94.3% for CHD, 97.4% for MOR, and 98.8% for CKD. F1 was assessed to identify false positives, with 84.5% for CKD, 63.6% for MOR, 46.2% for LEA, and 44.8% for CHD. Conclusions: This ML model can be applied to predict CHD, CKD, and MOR. The success of ML predictions lies in the clinical definition of initial variables and their simplification for obtaining variables based on which the algorithms can identify patients that are likely to develop a complication. In the competitive field of business intelligence, optimizing talent recruitment through data-driven methodologies is crucial for better decision-making. This study compares the effectiveness of various machine learning models to improve recruitment accuracy and efficiency. Using the recruitment data from a major Yemeni organization (2019–2022), we evaluated models including K-Nearest Neighbors, Logistic Regression, Support Vector Machine, Naive Bayes, Decision Trees, Random Forest, Gradient Boosting Classifier, AdaBoost Classifier, and Neural Networks. Hyperparameter tuning and cross-validation were used for optimization. The Random Forest model achieved the highest accuracy (92.8%), followed by Neural Networks (92.6%) and Gradient Boosting Classifier (92.5%). These results suggest that advanced machine learning models, particularly Random Forest and Neural Networks, can significantly enhance the recruitment processes in business intelligence systems. Background: In the current global market, supply chains are increasingly complex, necessitating agile and sustainable management strategies. Traditional analytical methods often fall short in addressing these challenges, creating a need for more advanced approaches. Methods: This study leverages advanced machine learning (ML) techniques to enhance logistics and inventory man-agement. Using historical data from a multinational retail corporation, including sales, inventory levels, order fulfillment rates, and operational costs, we applied a variety of ML algorithms, in-cluding regression, classification, clustering, and time series analysis. Results: The application of these ML models resulted in significant improvements across key operational areas. We achieved a 15% increase in demand forecasting accuracy, a 10% reduction in overstock and stockouts, and a 95% accuracy in predicting order fulfillment timelines. This study focuses on predicting PM2.5 levels at the University of Petroșani by employing advanced machine-learning techniques to analyze a dataset that encapsulates a wide array of air pollutants and meteorological factors. Utilizing data from Internet of Things (IoT) sensors and established environmental monitoring stations, the research leverages Random Forest, Gradient Boosting Machines, and Support Vector Regression models to forecast air quality, emphasizing the complex interplay between various pollutants. Predicting academic performance for students majoring in computer science has long been a significant field of research in computing education. Previous studies described that accurate prediction of students' early-stage performance could identify low-performing students and take corrective action to improve performance. Besides, adopting machine learning algorithms with predictive analytics has proven possible and meaningful. The traditional approach of looking after students without uncovering the root causes of poor performance has shifted dramatically into improving the quality of the educational processes of students, teachers, and stakeholders. Thus, this study employed predictive analytics to develop an early warning prediction model using computing science degree performance data at a public institution. Predictive models based on our data analysis revealed that low, medium, and high-performing students could be predicted with an accuracy of 88% using only the grades of the courses they took in the second year. Moreover, 96% accuracy was achieved when all course grades were used in predictive models. The courses that are important in determining the overall performance of the students were also analyzed. By employing a multi-method approach, utilizing a large dataset spanning four academic years, and including a diverse sample of 430 students, our study offers a robust foundation to researchers, designers, and computer science educators for understanding and predicting student performance. Predictive modelling in the education domain can be utilised to significantly improve teaching and learning experiences. Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) generate a large volume of data that can be exploited to predict and evaluate student performance based on various factors. This paper has two broad aims. Firstly, to develop and tune several Machine Learning (ML) models to perform classification tasks on the dataset to predict student performance, including Linear Regression, Logistic Regression, Random Forests, K-Nearest Neighbours, and more. Secondly, to evaluate the efficacy of these ML models and identify those which are best suited to this task. The categories of data utilised in achieving these aims include (i) demographic information, (ii) academic background, and (iii) interaction with MOOC course materials. The research procedure comprises five phases: data exploration to analyse the dataset, feature engineering which involves discerning the most important features and converting them into a format decipherable by the ML models, model building, model evaluation by measurement of accuracy, and subsequent comparative evaluation between the different models. The results achieved in this study are expected to have implications on how MOOC platforms utilise data to improve user experience. As indicated by the findings of this study, the data collected by these platforms may be used to predict performance with accuracy of over 77%; this extracted information can be exploited to enhance educational theory or practices in the context of MOOCs, for instance by implementing varying teaching methodologies or providing different types of resources based on predicted performance. The purpose of this review is to provide an overview of the integration of technological advancements in orthopedic shoulder surgery. Recent technological advancements in orthopedic shoulder surgery include predictive analytics, computer-navigated instrumentation for operative planning, extended reality, and robotics. Separately, these advancements provide distinct methodological attempts to improve surgical experiences and outcomes. Together, these technologies can provide orthopedic surgeons with the tools and capabilities to improve patient care and communication in shoulder arthroplasty. From artificial intelligence-generated predictive analytics to extended reality and robotics, technical innovations may lead to improvements in patient education, surgical accuracy, interdisciplinary communication, and outcomes. A comprehensive narrative review was conducted to explore the technological advancements of orthopedic shoulder arthroplasty. Our findings emphasized the impact of these advancements, exemplified by early enhancements in efficacy and safety. However, certain challenges remain, such as a lack of reproducibly improved outcomes and cost considerations. Renewable energy sources are essential to address climate change, fossil fuel depletion, and stringent environmental regulations in the subsequent decades. Horizontal-axis wind turbines (HAWTs) are particularly suited to meet this demand. However, their efficiency is affected by environmental factors because they operate in open areas. Adverse weather conditions like rain reduce their aerodynamic performance. This study investigates wind turbine power prediction under rainy conditions by integrating Blade Element Momentum (BEM) theory with explainable artificial intelligence (XAI). The S809 airfoil's aerodynamic characteristics, used in NREL wind turbines, were analyzed using ANSYS FLUENT and symbolic regression under varying rain intensities. Simulations at a Reynolds number (Re) of 1 × 106 were performed using the Discrete Phase Model (DPM) and k– ω SST turbulence model, with liquid water content (LWC) values of 0 (dry), 10, 25, and 39 g/m3. The lift and drag coefficients were calculated at various angles of attack for all the conditions. The results indicated that rain led to reduced lift and increased drag. The innovative aspect of this research is the development of machine learning models predicting changes in the airfoil coefficients under rain with an R 2 value of 0.97. The proposed XAI framework models rain effects at a lower computational time, enabling efficient wind farm performance assessment in rainy conditions compared to conventional CFD simulations. It was found that a heavy rain LWC of 39 g/m3 could reduce power output by 5.7% to 7%. Deep learning is crucial in marine logistics and container crane error detection, diagnosis, and prediction. A novel deep learning technique using Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) detected and anticipated errors in a system with imbalanced data. The LSTM model was trained on real operational error data from container cranes. The custom algorithm employs the Synthetic Minority Oversampling TEchnique (SMOTE) to balance the imbalanced data for operational data errors (i.e., too few minority class samples). Python was used to program. Pearson, Spearman, and Kendall correlation matrices and covariance matrices are presented. The model's training and validation loss is shown, and the remaining data are predicted. The test set (30% of actual data) and forecasted data had RMSEs of 0.065. A heatmap of a confusion matrix was created using Matplotlib and Seaborn. Additionally, the error outputs for the time series for the next n seconds were projected, with the n seconds input by the user. Accuracy was 0.996, precision was 1.00, recall was 0.500, and f1 score was 0.667, according to the evaluation criteria that were produced. Experiments demonstrated that the technique is capable of identifying critical elements. Thus, future attempts will improve the model's structure to forecast industrial big data errors. Resilience describes the capacity of systems to react to, withstand, adjust to, and recover from disruptive events. Despite numerous metrics proposed to quantify resilience, few studies predict these metrics or the restoration time to nominal performance levels, and these studies often focus on a single domain. This paper introduces three methods to model system performance and resilience metrics, which are applicable to various engineering and social science domains. These models utilize reliability engineering techniques, including bathtub-shaped functions, mixture distributions, and regression analysis incorporating event intensity covariates. Historical U.S. job loss data during recessions are used to evaluate these approaches' predictive accuracy. This study computes goodness-of-fit measures, confidence intervals, and resilience metrics. The results show that bathtub-shaped functions and mixture distributions accurately predict curves possessing V, U, L, and J shapes but struggle with W and K shapes involving multiple disruptions or sudden performance drops. In contrast, covariate-based models effectively track all curve types, including complex W and K shapes, like the successive shocks in the 1980 U.S. recession and the sharp decline in the 2020 U.S. recession. These models achieve a high predictive accuracy for future performance and resilience metrics, evidenced by the low sum of square errors and high adjusted coefficients of determination. This research primary aimed at evaluating various predictive models in predicting programming students at risk of dropping out. It also aimed at identifying attributes that are significant in predicting students at risk of dropping. The educational data mining process (EDM) was utilized as the research framework. The study conducted a ten-fold cross-validation, revealing that the k-nearest neighbors (kNN) algorithm achieved the highest classification accuracy at 95.5%. The decision tree model followed closely with a 94.9% accuracy, logistic regression exhibited 94.4%, and the neural network model yielded a classification accuracy of 93.2%. Further analysis, including confusion matrices and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves, provided detailed insights into the models' performance. Notably, the decision tree algorithm excelled in identifying students who did not drop out, with a misclassification rate of 9 out of 30 for dropped students. Analysis also showed that students' assignments completed (AC), laboratory work (LW), and attendance (ATT) were the strongest predictors in identifying students at risk of dropping. Results of the study can be used by instructors to identify in advance student at risk of dropping and provide them with the necessary intervention to improve performance in programming. Efficient inventory management is essential for maintaining a balance between supply and demand in various industries. This research study aims to quantitatively examine the impact of supply chain delays, with a specific emphasis on lead times and in-transit amounts, inventory levels, and the ability to meet sales demands. Mathematical modeling and statistical analysis are utilized to create prediction models that assess the impact of variations in lead time and quantities in transit on inventory stability and fulfillment rates. The study used regression analysis to ascertain the relationships between the indicated parameters and inventory outcomes. Also, machine learning algorithms like Random Forest and Linear Regression are applied to predict possible disruptions and optimize inventory levels. Objective: to identify the key benefits and potential risks associated with the use of artificial intelligence in ERP systems to improve decision-making processes, management efficiency and operational performance of various sectors, including commercial and non-profit organizations. Methods: systematic literature review, empirical data analysis, analytical and experimental research methods. Results: the key directions of artificial intelligence implementation in ERP-systems are reflected, providing improvement of operational efficiency, customer relations, as well as optimization of business processes, data management, supply chain and personnel management, automation of operations related to finance, optimization of customer relations; implementation of artificial intelligence in ERP-systems reduces inventory management costs, improves the accuracy of forecasting andinventory optimization, accelerates financial analysis and increases the accuracy of budgeting, resulting in reduced budget planning time; it also increases productivity by optimizing necessary production processes and reducing equipment downtime. However, there are also risks of confidential data leakage, unauthorized access to data; job losses due to automation of tasks; and vulnerability to cyberattacks. Scientific novelty: the little-studied directions of artificial intelligence integration in ERP-systems are analyzed; an integrative approach to the application of artificial intelligence in ERP-systems is proposed, which combines methods of machine learning, natural language processing and predictive analytics and provides a comprehensive assessment of the complex impact on the business processes’ efficiency. Practical significance: the formulated directions for solving the identified problems of artificial intelligence integration in ERP-systems can be implemented in practice, as they will enable to better take into account local requirements and laws.

Due to rapid advancements in the field of Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), a continuous influx of health data is being generated at a large scale. The primary objective of IoMT solutions is to transmit critical health data from patients to remote locations in real-time. Apart from remote patient monitoring, the extensive collection of health data offers opportunities for uncovering noteworthy patterns and potential risks associated with future diseases. This study introduces a novel risk prediction approach, namely Association Rule Mining for Risk Prediction (ARMR), which integrates an IoMT framework with the emerging machine learning technique known as Association Rule Mining (ARM). The proposed scheme employs a dataset obtained from various hospitals. The findings demonstrate that ARMR effectively extracts rules to identify a patient's risk of heart disease by considering demographic, physiological, and lifestyle data. Moreover, intriguing, and unexpected patterns and associations in the disease data can be identified, aiding medical professionals in guiding diagnosis and treatment decisions more efficiently.

This policy analysis focuses on harnessing the power of artificial intelligence (AI) in hospital quality improvement to transform quality and patient safety. It examines the application of AI at the two following fundamental levels: (1) diagnostic and treatment and (2) clinical operations. AI applications in diagnostics directly impact patient care and safety. At the same time, AI indirectly influences patient safety at the clinical operations level by streamlining (1) operational efficiency, (2) risk assessment, (3) predictive analytics, (4) quality indicators reporting, and (5) staff training and education. The challenges and future perspectives of AI application in healthcare, encompassing technological, ethical, and other considerations, are also critically analyzed.

Background: Bone marrow adipose tissue (BMAT) represents > 10% fat mass in healthy humans and can be measured by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as the bone marrow fat fraction (BMFF). Human MRI studies have identified several diseases associated with BMFF but have been relatively small scale. Population-scale studies therefore have huge potential to reveal BMAT’s true clinical relevance. The UK Biobank (UKBB) is undertaking MRI of 100,000 participants, providing the ideal opportunity for such advances. Objective: To establish deep learning for high-throughput multi-site BMFF analysis from UKBB MRI data. Materials and methods: We studied males and females aged 60–69. Bone marrow (BM) segmentation was automated using a new lightweight attention-based 3D U-Net convolutional neural network that improved segmentation of small structures from large volumetric data. Using manual segmentations from 61–64 subjects, the models were trained to segment four BM regions of interest: the spine (thoracic and lumbar vertebrae), femoral head, total hip and femoral diaphysis. Models were tested using a further 10–12 datasets per region and validated using datasets from 729 UKBB participants. BMFF was then quantified and pathophysiological characteristics assessed, including site- and sex-dependent differences and the relationships with age, BMI, bone mineral density, peripheral adiposity, and osteoporosis. Results: Model accuracy matched or exceeded that for conventional U-Nets, yielding Dice scores of 91.2% (spine), 94.5% (femoral head), 91.2% (total hip) and 86.6% (femoral diaphysis). One case of severe scoliosis prevented segmentation of the spine, while one case of Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma prevented segmentation of the spine, femoral head and total hip because of T2 signal depletion; however, successful segmentation was not disrupted by any other pathophysiological variables. The resulting BMFF measurements confirmed expected relationships between BMFF and age, sex and bone density, and identified new site- and sex-specific characteristics. Conclusions: We have established a new deep learning method for accurate segmentation of small structures from large volumetric data, allowing high-throughput multi-site BMFF measurement in the UKBB. Our findings reveal new pathophysiological insights, highlighting the potential of BMFF as a novel clinical biomarker. Applying our method across the full UKBB cohort will help to reveal the impact of BMAT on human health and disease.

Millions of people across the world suffer from the chronic respiratory condition known as asthma. Predicting the severity of asthma based on a variety of personal and environmental characteristics might yield useful information for preventative measures. LightGBM model is a gradient-boosted model with the potential for great accuracy, but it requires careful hyperparameter adjustment to reach its full potential. Common tuning techniques have a hard time generalizing to new data distributions. The dataset was used, and its many subsets were used to represent various demographics and geographic areas. LightGBM was configured with hyperparameters, trained on a sample dataset, and then verified for each job. To quickly adjust to new tasks, the MAML method sought to find the optimal values for its hyperparameters. After the meta-training step was complete, the generalizability of the hyperparameters was tested on new data. After including MAML for hyperparameter adjustment, the Light-GBM model showed a gain of 7% in accuracy, coming in at 98.5%. Predictions of severe asthma had a crucially high 97.8 percent degree of accuracy. The model's recall rate for severe asthma levels was 97.4%, demonstrating its capacity to reliably detect and anticipate important instances. An F1-score of 97.1%, a metric that averages the accuracy and recall of a model, is indicative of good overall performance. For gradient-boosted model applications like asthma level prediction, MAML provides a viable path for hyperparameter adjustment. Although there are obstacles to be overcome, this method has the potential to greatly improve the flexibility and precision of predictive healthcare models. In the competitive field of business intelligence, optimizing talent recruitment through data-driven methodologies is crucial for better decision-making. This study compares the effectiveness of various machine learning models to improve recruitment accuracy and efficiency. Using the recruitment data from a major Yemeni organization (2019–2022), we evaluated models including K-Nearest Neighbors, Logistic Regression, Support Vector Machine, Naive Bayes, Decision Trees, Random Forest, Gradient Boosting Classifier, AdaBoost Classifier, and Neural Networks. Hyperparameter tuning and cross-validation were used for optimization. The Random Forest model achieved the highest accuracy (92.8%), followed by Neural Networks (92.6%) and Gradient Boosting Classifier (92.5%). These results suggest that advanced machine learning models, particularly Random Forest and Neural Networks, can significantly enhance the recruitment processes in business intelligence systems. This study provides valuable insights for recruiters, advocating for the integration of sophisticated machine learning techniques in talent acquisition strategies.

The explosion of data volume in the digital age has completely changed the corporate and industrial environments. In a dynamic business environment, the accuracy of sales forecasts plays a pivotal role in strategic decision making and resource allocation. This article offers a systematic review of the existing literature on techniques and methodologies used in forecasting, especially in sales forecasting across various domains, aiming to provide a nuanced understanding of the field. Our study examines the literature from 2013 to 2023, identifying key techniques and their evolution over time. The methodology involves a detailed analysis of 516 articles, categorized into classical qualitative approaches, traditional statistical methods, machine learning models, deep learning techniques, and hybrid approaches. The results highlight a significant shift towards advanced methods, with machine learning and deep learning techniques experiencing an explosive increase in adoption. The popularity of these models has surged, as evidenced by a rise from 10 articles in 2013 to over 110 by 2023. This growth underscores their growing prominence and effectiveness in handling complex time series data. Additionally, we explore the challenges and limitations that influence forecasting accuracy, focusing on complex market structures and the benefits of extensive data availability.

Extensive preprocessing and feature selection ensured data quality and relevance. Four machine learning algorithms were applied: Logistic Regression, Gradient Boosted Trees, Support Vector Machine, and Random Forest. The dataset was split into training and validation sets and the hyperparameters were tuned. Accuracy, Area Under the ROC Curve (AUC), precision, F-measure, sensitivity, and specificity were some of the evaluation criteria. Ethical guidelines for data use and patient privacy were rigorously followed throughout the study.Results: With the highest accuracy (88.66%), AUC (94.61%), and sensitivity (91.30%), Gradient Boosted Trees emerged as the top performance. Random Forest displayed strong AUC (94.78%) and accuracy (87.39%). In contrast, the Support Vector Machine showed higher sensitivity (98.57%) with lower specificity (59.55%), but lower accuracy (79.02%) and precision (70.81%). Sensitivity (87.70%) and specificity (87.05%) were maintained in balance via Logistic Regression.Conclusion: These findings imply that Gradient Boosted Trees and Random Forest might be an effective method for identifying patients who would develop AKI following heart surgery. This paper addresses challenges and solutions in urban development and infrastructure resilience, particularly in the context of Japan’s rapidly urbanizing landscape. It explores the integration of smart city concepts to combat land subsidence and liquefaction, phenomena highlighted by the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake. Additionally, it examines the current situation and lack of geoinformation and communication technology in the concept of smart cities in Japan. Consequently, this study employs advanced technologies, including smart sensing and predictive analytics through kriging and ensemble learning, with the objective of enhancing the precision of geotechnical investigations and urban planning. By analyzing data in Setagaya, Tokyo, it develops predictive models to accurately determine the depth of bearing layers that are critical to urban infrastructure. The results demonstrate the superiority of ensemble learning in predicting the depth of bearing layers. Two methods have been developed to predict undetected geographic data and prepare ground reality and digital smart maps for the construction industry to build smart cities. This study is useful for real-time analysis of existing data, for the government to make new urban plans, for construction companies to conduct risk assessments before doing their jobs, and for individuals to obtain real-time geographic data and hazard warnings through mobile phones and other means in the future. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first instance of predictive analysis of geographic information being conducted through geographic information, big data technology, machine learning, integrated learning, and artificial intelligence.

Abstract Objective This study compared COVID-19 outcomes between vaccinated and unvaccinated older adults with and without cognitive impairment. Method Electronic health records from Israel from March 2020-February 2022 were analyzed for a large cohort (N = 85,288) aged 65 + . Machine learning constructed models to predict mortality risk from patient factors. Outcomes examined were COVID-19 mortality and hospitalization post-vaccination. Results Our study highlights the significant reduction in mortality risk among older adults with cognitive disorders following COVID-19 vaccination, showcasing a survival rate improvement to 93%. Utilizing machine learning for mortality prediction, we found the XGBoost model, enhanced with inverse probability of treatment weighting, to be the most effective, achieving an AUC-PR value of 0.89. This underscores the importance of predictive analytics in identifying high-risk individuals, emphasizing the critical role of vaccination in mitigating mortality and supporting targeted healthcare interventions. Conclusions COVID-19 vaccination strongly reduced poor outcomes in older adults with cognitive impairment. Predictive analytics can help identify highest-risk cases requiring targeted interventions.

Abstract Background Patients with alpha-fetoprotein (AFP)-positive hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) have aggressive biological behavior and poor prognosis. Therefore, survival time is one of the greatest concerns for patients with AFP-positive HCC. This study aimed to demonstrate the utilization of six machine learning (ML)-based prognostic models to predict overall survival of patients with AFP-positive HCC. Methods Data on patients with AFP-positive HCC were extracted from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database. Six ML algorithms (extreme gradient boosting [XGBoost], logistic regression [LR], support vector machine [SVM], random forest [RF], K-nearest neighbor [KNN], and decision tree [ID3]) were used to develop the prognostic models of patients with AFP-positive HCC at one year, three years, and five years. Area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), confusion matrix, calibration curves, and decision curve analysis (DCA) were used to evaluate the model. Results A total of 2,038 patients with AFP-positive HCC were included for analysis. The 1-, 3-, and 5-year overall survival rates were 60.7%, 28.9%, and 14.3%, respectively. Seventeen features regarding demographics and clinicopathology were included in six ML algorithms to generate a prognostic model. The XGBoost model showed the best performance in predicting survival at 1-year (train set: AUC = 0.771; test set: AUC = 0.782), 3-year (train set: AUC = 0.763; test set: AUC = 0.749) and 5-year (train set: AUC = 0.807; test set: AUC = 0.740). Furthermore, for 1-, 3-, and 5-year survival prediction, the accuracy in the training and test sets was 0.709 and 0.726, 0.721 and 0.726, and 0.778 and 0.784 for the XGBoost model, respectively. Calibration curves and DCA exhibited good predictive performance as well. Conclusions The XGBoost model exhibited good predictive performance, which may provide physicians with an effective tool for early medical intervention and improve the survival of patients.

This study analyzed the clinical characteristics of HF in a Jordanian population with a particular emphasis on the relationship between DM and HF.Methods: This prospective study used the Jordanian Heart Failure Registry (JoHFR) data. Patients with HF were characterized by DM status and HF type: HF with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) or HF with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). Demographics, clinical presentations, and treatment outcomes were collected. Statistical analyses and machine learning techniques were carried out for the prediction of mortality among HF patients: Recursive Feature Elimination with Cross-Validation (RFECV) and Synthetic Minority Over-sampling Technique with Edited Nearest Neighbors (SMOTEENN) were employed.Results: A total of 2007 patients with HF were included. Notable differences between diabetic and non-diabetic patients are apparent. Diabetic patients were predominantly male, older, and obese (p < 0.001 for all). A higher incidence of HFpEF was observed in the diabetes cohort (p = 0.006). Also, diabetic patients had significantly higher levels of cholesterol (p = 0.008) and LDL (p = 0.003), reduced hemoglobin levels (p < 0.001), and more severe renal impairment (eGFR; p = 0.006). Machine learning models, particularly the Random Forest Classifier, highlighted its superiority in mortality prediction, with an accuracy of 90.02% and AUC of 80.51%. Predictors of mortality included creatinine levels > 115 μmol/L, length of hospital stay, and need for mechanical ventilation.Conclusion: This study underscores notable differences in clinical characteristics and outcomes between diabetic and non-diabetic heart failure patients in Jordan. Diabetic patients had higher prevalence of HFpEF and poorer health indicators such as elevated cholesterol, LDL, and impaired kidney function. Background: Despite low mortality for elective procedures in the United States and developed countries, some patients have unexpected care escalations (UCE) following post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) discharge. Studies indicate patient risk factors for UCE, but determining which factors are most important is unclear. Machine learning (ML) can predict clinical events. We hypothesized that ML could predict patient UCE after PACU discharge in surgical patients and identify specific risk factors. Methods: We conducted a single center, retrospective analysis of all patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery (elective and emergent). We collected data from pre-operative visits, intra-operative records, PACU admissions, and the rate of UCE. We trained a ML model with this data and tested the model on an independent data set to determine its efficacy. Finally, we evaluated the individual patient and clinical factors most likely to predict UCE risk. Results: Our study revealed that ML could predict UCE risk which was approximately 5% in both the training and testing groups. We were able to identify patient risk factors such as patient vital signs, emergent procedure, ASA Status, and non-surgical anesthesia time as significant variable. We plotted Shapley values for significant variables for each patient to help determine which of these variables had the greatest effect on UCE risk. Of note, the UCE risk factors identified frequently by ML were in alignment with anesthesiologist clinical practice and the current literature. Conclusions: We used ML to analyze data from a single-center, retrospective cohort of non-cardiac surgical patients, some of whom had an UCE. ML assigned risk prediction for patients to have UCE and determined perioperative factors associated with increased risk. We advocate to use ML to augment anesthesiologist clinical decision-making, help decide proper disposition from the PACU, and ensure the safest possible care of our patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Mental health has been identified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a matter of concern internationally. In Colombia, specifically, the importance of mental health care, including the phenomenon of suicide, has been highlighted. In this regard, policymakers have sought alternatives to address or mitigate this issue. In this context, research becomes relevant regarding the development of tools that facilitate decision-making for governmental authorities, for example, through the formulation of forecasting models that enable the identification of trends and patterns of behaviour of suicide attempts. The objective of this study is to formulate and select a regional forecasting model for suicide attempts by means of predictive analytics techniques. This paper contributes to fill the gap in the case of suicide attempts in the city of Medellín, Colombia. The fitting, validation and comparison of three different time series models, under minimum forecast error criteria is presented. The compared models include parametric, Holt-Winters and Box-Jenkins approximations; For the analysed data, the parametric model with cubic, seasonal and ARMA(0.5) components is the one with the lowest forecast error. This model manages to capture the trends of the phenomenon, with a low level of error for the projection for nearby trends, but it does not manage to respond to sudden changes in structure such as those that occurred in the COVID-19 pandemic. Analyzing the vibration of blower motors in industrial sites to detect and predict anomalies is important for increasing operational efficiency and improving predictive maintenance. Existing methods risk malfunctions due to over-sensitivity, and deep learning approaches, in particular, require large datasets for training and are difficult to maintain. This research is divided into two phases: diagnostic analysis and predictive analysis. The first phase, diagnostic analysis, utilizes the Pruned Exact Linear Time (PELT) algorithm and Statistical Process Control (SPC) techniques to identify vibration data points with abrupt pattern changes and outside the normal operating range. The second step, predictive analysis, utilizes the Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) Regression algorithm to identify patterns in the vibration data to predict the occurrence and timing of potential failures. The algorithm used in the study provides computational efficiency and high prediction accuracy, which can compensate for the shortcomings of existing methods. The study also presents a methodology that can effectively detect and predict anomalies in blower motors and similar mechanical equipment in industrial environments. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
