The article discusses the long-term results of the study concerning the problem of substantiation of biological methods for restoring the protective functions of forest areas contaminated with toxic solid waste from the mining industry for the creation of forest plantations. The object of research was a technogenic system, including waste, technology, recultivated and non-recultivated forest areas within the boundaries of the Amur-Primorsky coniferous-broadleaf forest region of the Far Eastern Federal District of Russia. A comprehensive geoecological assessment of the impact of waste within the boundaries of non-recultivated sites on the environment and human health using various methods, namely, using mathematical apparatus and GIS technologies, made it possible to assess the ecological state of the studied area as critical and catastrophic. Biological methods have been developed to restore the protective functions of technogenically polluted forest areas with the use of microorganisms and humic preparations for the rehabilitation of areas disturbed by tin mining. The novelty of the proposed methods is confirmed by Patents of the Russian Federation. For 30 years, the technogenic landscape has been developing soils according to soil-ecological functions as close as possible to the background soils. In the same direction, the formation of not only embryozems, but also the formation of a complex plant community and the restoration of the protective functions of forest areas were found, which indicates the possibility of using recultivated areas to create forest plantations. The deterioration of farmland shelterbelts in the Ulan Buh desert oases could weaken their protective functions. Therefore, an accurate method is essential to assess tree decline degree in order to guide the rejuvenation and transformation of these shelterbelts. This study selected three typical farmland shelterbelts in the Ulan Buh desert oases as the objects. Terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) and airborne hyperspectral imagery (AHI) were used to acquire point cloud data and detailed spectral information of trees. Point cloud and spectral characteristics of trees with varying decline levels were analyzed. Six models were constructed to identify decline degree of shelterbelts, and model accuracy was evaluated. The coefficient of determination between the structural parameters of trees extracted by TLS and field measurements ranged from 0.76 to 0.94. Healthy trees outperformed declining trees in structural parameters, particularly in tridimensional green biomass and crown projection area. Spectral reflectance changes in the 740–950 nm band were evident among the three tree types with different decline levels, decreasing significantly with increased decline level. Among the TLS-derived feature parameters, the canopy relief ratio of tree points and point cloud density strongly correlated with the degree of tree decline. The plant senescence reflectance index and normalized difference vegetation index exhibited the closest correlation with tree decline in AHI data. The average accuracy of the models constructed based on the feature parameters of LiDAR, AHI, and the combination of both of them were 0.77, 0.61, and 0.81, respectively. The light gradient-boosting machine model utilizing TLS–AHI comprehensive feature parameters accurately determined tree decline. This study highlights the efficacy of employing feature parameters derived from TLS alone to accurately identify tree decline. Combining feature parameters from the TLS and AHI enhances the precision of tree decline identification. In order to understand how and what structures of the tomato ovule with a single integument form the seed coat of a mature seed, a detailed study of the main development stages of the tomato ovule integument was carried out using the methods of light and electron microscopy. The integument itself it was shown to transform in the course of development into the coat (skin) of a mature seed, but the outer and inner epidermises of the integument and some layers of the integument parenchyma are mainly involved in this process. The outer epidermis cells are highly modified in later stages; their walls are thickened and lignified, creating a unique relatively hard outer coat. The fate of the inner epidermis of integument is completely different. It is separated from the other parenchyma cells of integument and is transformed into an independent new secretory tissue, an endothelium, which fences off the forming embryo and endosperm from the death zone. Due to the secretory activity of the endothelium, the dying inner parenchyma cells of the integument are lysed. Soon after the cuticle covers the endosperm, the lysis of dead integument cells stops and their flattened remnants form dense layers, which then enter the final composition of the coat of mature tomato seed. Thymosin is a kind of protein that is widely distributed in many tissues. It has many biological activities. Thymosin is divided into three subtypes: thymosin α, thymosin β and thymosin γ. Thymosin β4(Tβ4)is the most widely distributed in normal human body. A large number of studies have confirmed that Tβ4 has the functions of anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptosis and promoting proliferation. Ocular surface diseases are mostly related to ocular surface injury and inflammation. Therefore, promoting wound repair and healing and anti-inflammatory are the key to the treatment of ocular surface diseases. The present review mainly introduces the distribution, structure, synthesis of Tβ4 and its protective effect on ocular surface.

Numerous studies have almost proven the beneficial effects of gut microbiota in various aspects of human health, and even the gut microbiota is known as a new and forgotten organ. Akkermansia muciniphila, as a member of the gut microbiota, is considered a bacterium with probiotic properties; consequently, it has a remarkable position in microbiome research. This bacterium accounts for about 1–4 % of the total fecal microbiota population and is also considered a health marker. The accumulated evidence has shown a significant association between A. muciniphila and several disorders and diseases, such as obesity, fatty liver disease, diabetes, and even behavioral disorders. On the other hand, the beneficial effects of A. muciniphila in different studies have shown, such as protective role against pathogenic agents, antitumor properties, tight junctions' improvement, reduction of inflammation, gut permeability, and boosting adaptive immune responses. In this review, based on the available evidence and the latest research, we comprehensively evaluated the impact of A. muciniphila on host health from three points of view: metabolic, protective, and immune functions, as well as the possible mechanisms of each process. Adipose tissue is considered as a large gland that can produce paracrine and endocrine hormones. Growing evidence suggests that adipocytes may link obesity to cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Adipose tissue produces a large number of mediators, which affect metabolism, inflammation and coagulation. Omentin, a novel adipocytokine, has come into the center of interest due to its favorable effects on inflammation, glucose homeostasis and CVD. The present review provides a concise and general overview on the roles of omentin in CVD. The knowledge of these concepts may provide a new strategy to reduce disease risks on CVD in the future. The 3-D structure of human lactoferrin was first solved in atomic detail in 1987. Since that time, a variety of proven and postulated activities have been added to the original annotation of lactoferrin as an iron-binding protein. Structural studies have also expanded to include iron-bound and iron-free (apo) forms, mutants, and the lactoferrins of different species. In this review, we take the current information on both structure and function and show that the 3-D structure provides a useful framework for understanding some activities and also points to productive research directions that could help elucidate other reported functions. Some functions relate to iron binding where the role of lactoferrin is to scavenge and retain iron across a wide pH range. We specifically focus on functions that depend on the surface structure of the molecule, identifying features that may determine the many other protective properties of this multifunctional protein. The results of a study on morphophysiological variation in fish inhabiting a subarctic lake exposed to chronic industrial pollution are described using an example of cisco, Coregonus lavaretus. It is shown that indices of the heart, liver, kidneys, gills, and fatness in these fish are increased significantly and have retained increased values for the past 20 years. The observed changes are analyzed on the basis of biochemical data. The results of studies on the dynamics of hematological parameters in fish are used for characterizing the development of toxicosis. Adaptive rearrangements associated with an increase in the metabolic rate and the activation of protective systems in the fish are explained in the context of S.S. Schvarts' concept. The idea is proposed that the additional “energy cost” of detoxification may be responsible for morphophysiological variation in fish under conditions of water pollution. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
