- Abstract
Objective: To analyze the scientific evolution of botulinum toxin usage in plastic surgery in Latin America. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional bibliometric study was conducted using Scopus as the data source. Visual and bibliometric analyses were performed, and metrics were generated to evaluate the evolution, general characteristics and impact of the Latin American evidence on the use of botulinum toxin in plastic surgery. The bibliometrix R-package was utilized for this analysis. Results: The study included 34 documents published between 2002 and 2023, out of which 70.5 % (n = 24) were original articles and 23.5 % (n = 8) were reviews. International collaboration was identified in 32.3 % of the cases. The four most prolific authors were from Colombia and Brazil, each having published only two documents. Brazil (n = 20) was the most prolific country, followed by Chile (n = 5), Argentina (n = 4) and Colombia (n = 4). Regarding research trends, it was found that quality of life, dermal fillers, hyaluronic acid and wrinkles were the subtopics most related to the use of botulinum toxin in plastic surgery in Latin America. There were basically five associated research lines related to symptoms and aesthetic procedures, cosmetic complications and quality of life. The degree of development of the topics essentially depended on aesthetic interventions. Multiple correspondence analysis based on authors' keywords revealed that patient follow-up, cohort studies, risk assessment, outcome evaluation, rejuvenation and adults are elements that primarily complement the base subtopics. Conclusions: Slow growth with low production and impact has been identified in Latin American research on the use of botulinum toxin in plastic surgery over the last 20 years. This research has focused on clinical studies related to clinical outcome assessment, quality of life and aesthetic techniques. Brazil leads research in the region and maintains a strong network of intercontinental collaboration. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article analyzes a corpus of six texts written and published under the "publishing house" of two criminal organizations in Michoacan, Mexico, including a press release, an autobiography, a code of conduct, a journalist narrative, an advertising text and a motivational text, focused on the search of political legitimacy by criminal organizations. This article argues that, in spite of the heterogeneity in narrative styles, this corpus has a single political message: a discourse of legitimacy linked to a project to build criminal authority. Firstly, the idea of legitimacy and criminal authority is analyzed, then the context of legitimacy crisis and authority experienced in Michoacan and Mexico is addressed; next, each text, its characteristics and purposes are analyzed. Finally, the results are discussed and some ideas are considered as a conclusion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Objective: To describe the characteristics of papers presented at medical student conferences of Sociedad Científica Médico Estudiantil Peruana (SOCIMEP - Peruvian Medical Student Scientific Society) between 2017 and 2019, as well as the factors related to their publication. Materials and methods: An observational, cross-sectional, bibliometric, retrospective and secondary-source study based on the books of abstracts of papers presented at scientific conferences between 2017 and 2019. The data were analyzed with the Stata Statistical Software: Release 13 using descriptive statistics. In the multivariate analysis, prevalence ratios were calculated with a 95 % confidence interval and p < 0.05 in the crude and adjusted analyses. Results: From a total of 447 papers, 170 (38.0 %) were completed research studies, 168 (37.6 %) research protocols and 109 (24.4 %) case reports. In addition, 233 (52.1 %) authors came from a university in Lima and 183 (40.9 %) were from public universities. Moreover, 376 (52.1 %) papers had an advisor among the authors, 332 (88.3 %) of whom were physicians. The frequency of publications accounted for 11.4 %. The prevalence of original-article publications was 131 % higher (aPR: 2.31; 95 % CI: 1.22-4.37, p = 0.010) and 63 % lower (aPR: 0.37; 95 % CI: 0.17-0.81, p = 0.014) among papers presented in 2019 compared to 2017, thus being statistically significant, with p < 0.05. Conclusions: One out of 10 abstracts of papers presented at SOCIMEP conferences was published; however, this number is still low. Among the factors associated with the publication were presenting a research paper as an original article and in 2019. The results of this study will help the university leadership to strengthen research through strategies and/or programs linked to the student scientific production. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Objective: To characterize the articles published in the Finlay journal during the period between 2011 and 2022. Materials and methods: An observational, descriptive, bibliometric study was carried out on the articles published in the Finlay journal. The universe consisted of 525 articles. Sampling techniques were not used. The analyzed variables were number of articles, year of publication, number of authors, origin of the authors, type of article, main theme of the articles, type of study, number of references, number of 5-year-old references, number of citations per article and number of citations received by the journal per year. A descriptive statistics and bibliometrics were used. Results: The year 2021 stood out with 60 research works (11.38 %). Articles with three authors prevailed (155; 29.52 %), Cienfuegos stood out with 1,074 authors (59.40 %) and original articles (OA) predominated (243; 46.28 %). Images in medicine (IM) had the highest Price's Index (0.80). Among the OA, research works with an observational-descriptive approach prevailed (225 published articles, which accounted for 92.59 % out of the total number of OA). Research related to cardiovascular diseases predominated (116; 22.09 %). A total of 4,870 citations were received, most of them from 2017, with a number of corrected citations (NCC) of 38.3. Meanwhile, the year 2020 had an impact factor (IF) of 3.27. Conclusions: The Finlay journal is a scientific body for the dissemination of research results with extensive achievements and experiences in editorial management. Its growth has been exponential in terms of the number of articles published, prevailing the year 2021. Its issues include research works that show the collaboration between national and foreign authors, highlighting the results of the Cienfuegos province's researchers. In this regard, the topics focus on health problems that are included in the sector's priority health programs, based on original research to a greater extent and coupled with a higher number of citations received especially in 2017. LIBERATION theology , *PERIODICAL publishing , *SERIAL publication of books , *REFLECTION (Philosophy) , *EVANGELICALISM , *SECULARIZATION - Abstract
The present study analyzes fifty years of theological reflection in Uruguay, specifically at the Faculty of Theology of Uruguay "Mons. Mariano Soler" and its predecessor, the Theological Institute of Uruguay. These periodic publications demonstrate the research and production work in the area of theological thought in the country. Over time, different research topics have emerged, addressed from the different specialties of theological knowledge and ecclesiastical sciences in general. The progress of the Theological Institute of Uruguay has contributed to giving more importance to research and being more demanding in publications. The article presents the emergence of academic publications in Uruguay in the 1970s, as part of the Latin American theological movement following the Second Vatican Council. These publications, which include an Annual Book and a series of Notebooks, seek to be theological and pastoral contributions in service to the Church. The text talks about the publications of the Theological Institute of Uruguay and their evolution over the years. Initially, five issues of the magazine "Puntos de Apoyo" were published in 1983 and 1984, addressing specific topics related to theology. Then, for three years, there were no new publications. Starting in 1995, the magazine "Soleriana" began to be published, replacing the Annual Book and being published semi-annually. This new stage coincides with the creation of the degree in theology of evangelization and seeks to promote theological reflection in the service of evangelization in a context of secularization and social challenges. Soleriana magazine presents itself as a resource for the evangelization of Uruguayan culture, promoting interdisciplinary dialogue from theological thought. In 2000, the creation of the Faculty of Theology of Uruguay "Mons. Mariano Soler" is announced and the magazine becomes the faculty's magazine. The article presents a summary of the issues of Soleriana magazine published between 2001 and 2015. The topics addressed in each issue are mentioned, such as hope, the Virgin Mary, religiosity, and the evangelization of culture. It is highlighted that the magazine has experienced a crisis and decline in recent years, with a decrease in the number of issues published. The importance of research and academic production in the theological field is emphasized. Soleriana magazine has gone through different stages over the years. In the first stage, it focused on the history of the Church in Uruguay and had the participation of faculty students. In the second stage, the magazine faced difficulties and stopped having previous sections. In the third stage, the magazine was revitalized and began to be published semi-annually, with new sections and a focus on research. Style guidelines have been introduced and blind peer review has been implemented. The article presents the history of theological production at the Faculty of Theology of Uruguay "Mons. Mariano Soler" through its publications. The importance of Soleriana magazine is highlighted, which has adopted a style manual for article submission and has established formal requirements. The magazine has exclusively relied on research papers from authors, mostly faculty members. Additionally, the creation of its own research lines and the exchange with other academic publications are mentioned. On the other hand, the existence of books edited by the institution is mentioned, mainly by faculty professors. In conclusion, the contribution of these publications to Uruguayan theological production and their objective of contributing to the Church and national culture is highlighted. The article presents the work of the Theological Institute in Uruguay over the past 50 years. Although proposals for liberation theology emerged in the country, the institute did not embrace them. We report the results of a survey of international relations (IR) scholars on the use of an increasingly common policy designed to close recognition gaps in IR: gender balance in citation (GBC) statements. GBC statements remind and encourage authors submitting work to peer-reviewed outlets to consider the gender balance among the works they cite. We find that these policies enjoyed wide support among IR scholars in our sample countries soon after journals began instituting the policies, but women were more supportive than men of the policies. We also report the results of a question-order experiment that allows us to study how raising awareness of gender gaps in the IR discipline affects the proportion of women that scholars list among the most influential IR scholars in the last 20 years. The effects of exposure to the gender treatment vary, however, by respondents' gender and whether respondents teach in the United States. The treatment effects were much larger for women than for men in the United States, but the reverse was true outside the United States. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

“MedUNAB has been and continues to be a life school. It is not only about the academic and scientific life, but also stands for that style of life which proposes, manages, and interacts. A school that has allowed many of us to see the global outlook and project ourselves to leverage our skills and fulfill our dreams. But, above all, to grow and become better professionals, as well as better, happy, human beings. Long-lasting friendships have been built and, why not say it, true loves. We can only be grateful for the opportunity, which has shaped much of who we are and what we have been able to contribute." Attaching the words of the second editor of the magazine, Luis Alfonso Díaz Martínez, I would like to begin this review, which more than a historical summary, stands for a remembrance of an institution that has come alive within the Faculty of Health Sciences of the Universidad Autónoma de Bucaramanga (UNAB).

Within Digital Humanities, History is one of the disciplines that has the greatest delay in its incorporation on the Internet. Very important steps have already been taken, such as the fact that most magazines already have a digital version or only exist on the Internet. However, there is still much to do in an objective that is not only the task of historians, but from other disciplines such as Information and Documentation. In this subject, the presence of the American History knowledge area on digital platforms is analyzed, the sources, information and publications that can be found are presented according to each of the stages of the research cycle. Various options are also proposed to achieve faster advancement of the area within the Digital Humanities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

From a sociocultural perspective, we characterize the writing, reading practices, and early publishing environments of new authors, with at least one publication. We carried out semi-structured interviews with eleven researchers who had recently received doctoral degrees from various institutions. Subsequently, we analyzed and described literacy practices aimed at publishing, the support of mentors, and publication genres, interpreting them as part of the authors' disciplinary experience during their academic trajectory, before and after receiving their doctoral degree. The authors under study followed different paths for developing their disciplinary writing and learning to publish. Considering the number of their publications and the reported forms of authorship, we describe three moments in their development as authors: beginners, apprentices, and practitioners. We show that most of them produce co-authored collaborations and work. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Many important discoveries have faced resistance or simply ignored by the scientific community. Various renowned researchers went through rejection before finally having their papers published, including some manuscripts who were subsequently awarded the Nobel Prize. Knowing about the manuscripts that faced rejection that later revolutionized their fields, is a good reminder that rejection is not necessarily the end of your research; it might be just the beginning of the road. DIGITAL technology , *WEB 2.0 , *INFORMATION society , *SOCIAL networks , *CONTENT marketing , *VIRTUAL communities , *DIGITAL communications , *SOCIAL media - Abstract
The current digital age has social networks (SS.NN) as its main means of communication. On the other hand, scientific journals (SJ) are a fundamental part of the new knowledge society, the above suggests a link between SJ and SS.NN as content broadcast media. However, the task is not easy, for this to be carried out properly, the SJs must efficiently apply and manage the content they share on the SS.NN, in the case of this study, the social network Facebook. The objective was to describe the characteristics of the content shared by the SJs in the health field indexed in Scielo Spain on the Facebook social network. For this, an empirical investigation was carried out, of a correlational, descriptive and cross-sectional type to the profiles of the SJs in the SS.NN. There is little participation of the SJ in the SS.NN, it can be added that the shared content is devoid of innovation and interaction, characteristics offered by web 2.0, additionally, a statistically significant relationship was found with Rho of 0.706, which suggests a high average relationship. Between the number of years on Facebook by SJs and their number of followers on the social network Facebook. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: the scientific production of universities serves as a key indicator of their commitment to research and knowledge generation. It represents the collective efforts of educators, researchers, and students contributing to the advancement of science and technology. Objective: to analyze the scientific production in the Scopus database of the Universidad Nacional Amazónica de Madre de Dios (UNAMAD). Methods: the research adopted a bibliometric and retrospective approach. An analysis of Scopus-indexed documents was conducted, evaluating the number of publications, authors, journals of publication, types of documents, language of publication, authorship order, funding sources, knowledge areas to which the documents belong, and co-authorship networks. Results: a total of 172 documents indexed in the Scopus database were identified, indicating a rising trend in production in recent years. Most documents were original articles, published in foreign journals in the English language, with collaboration from researchers affiliated with UNAMAD and no declared funding sources. Additionally, a higher number of documents were observed in the fields of Social Sciences and Environmental Sciences. Conclusions: in recent years, there has been a notable increase in UNAMAD’s scientific production in the Scopus database. Nevertheless, it remains relatively limited in comparison to other universities in the Amazonian region and throughout Peru. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Background: Since the beginning of the pandemic, new knowledge about COVID-19 obtained by research has been disseminated in medical and scientific journals, but the large number of publications that have been generated in such a short time has been impressive. Objective: To perform a bibliometric analysis of the published articles in medical-scientific journals carried-out by the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) personnel on COVID-19. Material and methods: Systematic review of the literature, identifying the publications included in the PubMed and EMBASE databases, up to September 2022. Articles on COVID-19 were included, in which at least one author had IMSS affiliation; there was no restriction on the type of publication, so original articles, review articles, clinical case reports, etc. were included. The analysis was descriptive. Results: 588 abstracts were obtained, of which 533 full length articles met the selection criteria. Most were research articles (48%), followed by review articles. Mainly clinical or epidemiological aspects were addressed. They were published in 232 different journals, with a predominance of foreign journals (91.8%). Around half of the publications were carried out by IMSS personnel together with authors from other institutions, national or foreign. Conclusions: The scientific contributions prepared by IMSS personnel have contributed to understanding clinical, epidemiological and basic aspects of COVID-19, which has had an impact on improving the quality of care for its beneficiaries.
