Ovaj diplomski rad pruža detaljnu usporedbu četiri istaknuta Android SDK-a: Infobip, OneSignal, Airship i Firebase, koji se koriste za slanje obavijesti u mobilnim aplikacijama. Razvijena je reprezentativna aplikacija i testirana u nizu scenarija kako bi se procijenila funkcionalnost svakog SDK-a te proučila upotreba memorije, mrežnog prometa i utjecaj na veličinu APK-a. Rezultati su otkrili jedinstvene prednosti i slabosti svakog SDK-a, pružajući ključne uvide za programere i menadžere. Ovaj rad ističe važnost odabira SDK-a na temelju specifičnih zahtjeva aplikacije i doprinosi sofisticiranijim i učinkovitijim praksama razvoja mobilnih aplikacija. This master's thesis gives a comprehensive comparison of four widely used Android SDKs: Infobip, OneSignal, Airship, and Firebase Messaging, all used for sending push notifications in mobile applications. An application was built and subjected to a variety of tests to examine the performance, memory consumption, networking, and impact on APK size of each SDK. The results showed unique advantages and areas of improvement for each SDK, offering invaluable guidance for developers and decision-making managers alike. This study underscores the importance of selecting an SDK based on specific application requirements and contributes to more refined and effective mobile application development practices.

With the increasing relevance of mobile apps for companies, push notifications to address app users are also becoming more important. While the acceptance factors of push notifications have already been extensively researched, the effect of the different design elements on user interaction by opening the mobile app is still completely unexplored. Based on existing scientific findings from related fields, especially banner advertising and e-mail marketing, the authors first develop hypotheses on the effect of title, button and image on user interaction with push notifications. In several experiments the hypotheses are tested using the example of a mobile shopping app. The results are evaluated using Chi-square test and Cramer's V. While the use of a title seems to have a positive effect on interaction rates, the hypotheses on the positive effect of buttons and images on interaction rates have to be rejected.

Windows Push Notifications (WPN) is a relevant part of Windows 10 interaction with the user. It is comprised of badges, tiles and toasts. Important and meaningful data can be conveyed by notifications, namely by so-called toasts that can popup with information regarding a new incoming email or a recent message from a social network. In this paper, we analyze the Windows 10 Notification systems from a digital forensic perspective, focusing on the main forensic artifacts conveyed by WPN. We also briefly analyze Windows 11 first release’s WPN system, observing that internal data structures are practically identical to Windows 10. We provide an open source Python 3 command line application to parse and extract data from the Windows Push Notification SQLite3 database, and a Jython module that allows the well-known Autopsy digital forensic software to interact with the application and thus to also parse and process Windows Push Notifications forensic artifacts. From our study, we observe that forensic data provided by WPN are scarce, although they still need to be considered, namely if traditional Windows forensic artifacts are not available. Progresivne web-aplikacije su nova vrsta web-aplikacija koje su nastale kao nadogradnja tradicionalnih web-aplikacija. Zahvaljujući tehnologijama Web App Manifest i Service Worker progresivne web-aplikacije imaju web-responzivni dizajn i osjećaj prirodnih aplikacija. Progresivne web-aplikacije vrlo su praktične za upravljanje podacima generiranih od strane uređaja povezanih u mreži Interneta stvari. Studijskim primjerom prikazana je progresivna web-aplikacija, napravljena korištenjem tehnologija: JavaScript, HTML, CSS i Node.js, koja prima obavijesti generirane automatizacijom pametne kuće pomoću platforme Home Assistant. Generirana obavijest se šalje na poslužitelj koristeći Home Assistant RESTful API, i nakon toga poslužitelj korištenjem tehnologije push obavijesti šalje tu obavijest progresivnoj web-aplikaciji koja tu obavijest prikazuje na svom korisničkom sučelju. Progressive web applications are a new type of web application that has emerged as an upgrade to traditional web applications. Thanks to Web App Manifest and Service Worker technologies, progressive web applications have a web-responsive design and a feel for natural applications. Progressive web applications are very practical for managing data generated by devices connected to the Internet of Things. A case study shows a progressive web application, created using technologies: JavaScript, HTML, CSS and Node.js, which receives notifications generated by smart home automation using the Home Assistant platform. The generated notification is sent to the server using the Home Assistant RESTful API, and then the server uses push notification technology to send that notification to a progressive web application that displays that notification on its user interface.

U sklopu završnog rada izrađen je programski sustav koji će župnicima omogućiti jednostavno obavještavanje župljana o bitnim događajima u župi. Sustav se sastoji od dvije aplikacije, mrežne za župnika i aplikacije na pokretnim uređajima za župljane. Aplikacija za župljane rađena je u razvojnom okviru Flutter koji omogućava jednostavan razvoj aplikacija i za Android i za iOS operacijske sustave. Mrežna aplikacija izrađena je pomoću knjižnice React. Poslužiteljska strana ostvarena je uslugama na platformi Firebase poput Cloud Firestorea, Firebase Messaginga itd. Sustav župljanima šalje push obavijesti o temama na koje su se pretplatili čim župnik doda novu obavijest. Omogućen je i pregled obavijesti i sadržaja po odabranim kategorijama za uobičajene župne aktivnosti. U sustavu je pružena podrška i za prijave na hodočašća i izlete. Župnicima je omogućeno uređivanje sadržaja korisničke aplikacije i pregled prijava na hodočašća. Sustav je moguće distribuirati različitim župama. Za svaku župu potrebno je postaviti zasebnu bazu podataka i novu distribuciju sustava pustiti u pogon. Subject of this thesis is to build a software system that will help pastors easily notify their parishioners about important events in parish. System has two application, web for pastor and mobile for parishioners. Mobile application was built using Flutter framework which builds native applications for Android and iOS from single codebase. Web application was built using React library. Backend is realized using Firebase ecosystem and its products like Cloud Firestore and Firebase Messaging. The system sends push notifications to parishioners about topics they have subscribed to whenever pastor adds new notification. They can view notifications and content by selected categories for usual parish activities. The system also provides support for registration for pilgrimages and field trips. Pastors can edit content of mobile application and see who has registered for pilgrimages or field trips. System can be distributed to different parishes. Separate database and app distribution is needed for each parish.

BackgroundBehavior change apps can develop iteratively, where the app evolves into a complex, dynamic, or personalized intervention through cycles of research, development, and implementation. Understanding how existing users engage with an app (eg, frequency, amount, depth, and duration of use) can help guide further incremental improvements. We aim to explore how simple visualizations can provide a good understanding of temporal patterns of engagement, as usage data are often longitudinal and rich.ObjectiveThis study aims to visualize behavioral engagement with Drink Less, a behavior change app to help reduce hazardous and harmful alcohol consumption in the general adult population of the United Kingdom.MethodsWe explored behavioral engagement among 19,233 existing users of Drink Less. Users were included in the sample if they were from the United Kingdom; were 18 years or older; were interested in reducing their alcohol consumption; had a baseline Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test score of 8 or above, indicative of excessive drinking; and had downloaded the app between May 17, 2017, and January 22, 2019 (615 days). Measures of when sessions begin, length of sessions, time to disengagement, and patterns of use were visualized with heat maps, timeline plots, k-modes clustering analyses, and Kaplan-Meier plots.ResultsThe daily 11 AM notification is strongly associated with a change in engagement in the following hour; reduction in behavioral engagement over time, with 50.00% (9617/19,233) of users disengaging (defined as no use for 7 or more consecutive days) 22 days after download; identification of 3 distinct trajectories of use, namely engagers (4651/19,233, 24.18% of users), slow disengagers (3679/19,233, 19.13% of users), and fast disengagers (10,903/19,233, 56.68% of users); and limited depth of engagement with 85.076% (7,095,348/8,340,005) of screen views occurring within the Self-monitoring and Feedback module. In addition, a peak of both frequency and amount of time spent per session was observed in the evenings.ConclusionsVisualizations play an important role in understanding engagement with behavior change apps. Here, we discuss how simple visualizations helped identify important patterns of engagement with Drink Less. Our visualizations of behavioral engagement suggest that the daily notification substantially impacts engagement. Furthermore, the visualizations suggest that a fixed notification policy can be effective for maintaining engagement for some users but ineffective for others. We conclude that optimizing the notification policy to target both effectiveness and engagement is a worthwhile investment. Our future goal is to both understand the causal effect of the notification on engagement and further optimize the notification policy within Drink Less by tailoring to contextual circumstances of individuals over time. Such tailoring will be informed from the findings of our micro-randomized trial (MRT), and these visualizations were useful in both gaining a better understanding of engagement and designing the MRT.

Background Alcohol misuse is higher in the UK Armed Forces than in the general population. Previous research has shown that interventions delivered via smartphones are efficacious in promoting self-monitoring of alcohol use, have utility in reducing alcohol consumption, and have a broad reach. Objective This single-blinded randomized controlled trial (RCT) aims to assess the efficacy of a 28-day brief alcohol intervention delivered via a smartphone app (Drinks:Ration) in reducing weekly self-reported alcohol consumption between baseline and 3-month follow-up among veterans who drink at a hazardous or harmful level and receive or have received support for mental health symptoms in a clinical setting. Methods In this two-arm, single-blinded RCT, a smartphone app that includes interactive features designed to enhance participants’ motivation and personalized messaging is compared with a smartphone app that provides only government guidance on alcohol consumption. The trial will be conducted in a veteran population that has sought help through Combat Stress, a UK veteran’s mental health charity. Recruitment, consent, and data collection will be carried out automatically through the Drinks:Ration platform. The primary outcome is the change in self-reported weekly alcohol consumption between baseline (day 0) and 3-month follow-up (day 84) as measured using the Time-Line Follow back for Alcohol Consumption. Secondary outcome measures include (1) change in the baseline to 3-month follow-up (day 84) Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test score and (2) change in the baseline to 3-month follow-up (day 84) World Health Organization Quality of Life-BREF score to assess the quality of adjusted life years. Process evaluation measures include (1) app use and (2) usability ratings as measured by the mHealth App Usability Questionnaire. The primary and secondary outcomes will also be reassessed at the 6-month follow-up (day 168) to assess the longer-term benefits of the intervention, which will be reported as a secondary outcome. Results The study will begin recruitment in October 2020 and is expected to require 12 months to complete. The study results will be published in 2022. Conclusions This study assesses whether a smartphone app is efficacious in reducing self-reported alcohol consumption in a veteran population that has sought help through Combat Stress using personalized messaging and interactive features. This innovative approach, if successful, may provide a means to deliver a low-cost health promotion program that has the potential to reach large groups, in particular those who are geographically dispersed, such as military personnel. Using push notifications, companies can address their smartphone app users with advertising messages. Each of these notifications can mean added value for smartphone users in terms of content, but also disruption and interruption. It is therefore important for advertisers to understand how the frequency of message delivery influences consumer acceptance. The systematic review is based on the PRISMA method and initially identifies a total of 18,725 potentially relevant scientific papers. The 17 research articles included in the qualitative synthesis show that push notifications are suitable for encouraging users to use an app and establish new habits. App usage increases with frequency, with particularly active users tolerating higher frequencies. At the same time it is also shown that too high a frequency can be perceived as disturbing and users should therefore be given the opportunity to determine the frequency with which they receive notifications. A gap in research has been identified in particular in studies that look at real observed behaviour of app users instead of behaviour reported via questionnaires and examine the interaction of frequency, content and presentation of notifications.

A helpful tool in forming, breaking, and maintaining habits and behaviors is a digital behavior change intervention (DBCI). These are interventions that leverage digital technologies to help their users to either take on or avoid certain behaviors. A common problem is a lack of user engagement with the interventions’ content, which is key for its effectiveness. It has however been shown that gamified content and using prompts—such as push notifications—may have the effect of increasing user engagement, for both DBCIs and other applications. Furthermore, two commonly occurring game concepts are competition and cooperation, each with different influences on engagement which in turn may vary depending on the context and the user. Therefore, this thesis set out to examine how push notifications can be used to increase user engagement with a gamified DBCI by making its gamified elements more salient. Additionally, it will investigate if there is any difference in influence on engagement of notifications that either promote competition or cooperation. This was evaluated by deploying two different push notification strategies on Deedster—a gamified mobile DBCI with the aim to get its users to reduce their personal CO2-emissions—and tracking user behavior. The results of the evaluation showed that users who received push notifications were more engaged—started more sessions and spent more time—with the application than users who did not receive any. They also performed a significantly higher amount of target behaviors. There was no difference in the influence on performed target behaviors between the notifications promoting competition or cooperation, and only one significant difference—usage of intervention features—regarding user engagement. The gender of the user was also found to be a considerable factor in the influence of the push notifications. Competition increased engagement more than cooperation for male users, but not for female users. Dessa interventioner använder digital teknik för att hjälpa deras användare att antingen påbörja eller undvika särskilda beteenden. Ett vanligt problem med dessa är att användarna ofta inte är särskilt engagerade i interventionernas innehåll eller funktioner, vilket är viktigt för deras effektivitet. Emellertid har det visats att spelifierat innehåll och användandet av notiser—såsom push-notiser—kan ha en ökande effekt på engagemanget. Två vanligt förekommande spelkoncept är tävling och samarbete, båda med sina olika effekter på engagemang vilket också skiftar beroende på kontexten och användaren. Därför ska detta examensarbete undersöka hur push-notiser kan användas för att öka användar-engagemanget i en spelifierad och mobil beteendeförändrings-intervention genom att göra dess spelifierade element mer framträdande. Dessutom kommer det även undersökas om det är någon skillnad i effekt mellan notiser som antingen främjar tävling eller samarbete. Detta var utvärderat genom att använda två olika push-notis-strategier på Deedster—en spelifierad, mobil intervention som syftar till att minska dess användares CO2-utsläpp—och sedan följa användarnas beteende. Resultaten visade att användare som fick push-notiser var mer engagerade—startade mer sessioner och spenderade mer tid—inom applikationen jämfört med användare som inte fick några notiser. De utförde också signifikant fler önskade beteenden. Det var ingen skillnad i effekt på antalet önskade beteende utförda mellan att främja tävling eller samarbete och endast några få skillnader i engagemang. Dock visade det sig att användarens kön var en betydande faktor i effekten av notiserna. Notiserna som främjade tävling var mer effektiva för manliga användare jämfört med de som främjade samarbete. Avui en dia, el professorat realitza tasques que requereixen una comunicació de notificacions ràpida i eficient amb les famílies dels alumnes, però els mecanismes utilitzats, com l'e-mail, telèfon, anotacions manuscrites no sempre aporten el millor resultat. Aquest treball té com a objectiu principal desenvolupar una aplicació Android per la comunicació de les principals notificacions de forma immediata, fàcil i intuïtiva. Les principals funcionalitats que aporta són l'enviament de notificacions per falta d'assistència al passar llista, notificacions per faltes específiques o comportaments inadequats, la sol·licitud d'entrevistes amb el tutor o família i l'avís al tutor d'absències justificades entre d'altres. School Notifier nace a partir de conocer las necesidades y dificultades reales de comunicación de los centros educativos con las familias. School Notifier was born from knowing the real needs and difficulties of communication between schools and families. Today, teachers carry out tasks that require rapid and efficient notification communication with students' families, but the mechanisms used, such as e-mail, telephone, handwritten annotations do not always provide the best result. This work has as main objective to develop an Android application by communicating the main notifications immediately, easily and intuitively. The main features that it provides are the sending of notifications for lack of assistance when passing the list, notifications for specific faults or inappropriate behaviors, the request for interviews with the tutor or family and the notification to the guardian of excused absences among others.

Cilj diplomskega dela je izdelati prototip mobilne aplikacije SPIN, ki jo bodo lahko uporabljali vsi, ki se zanimajo za aktualne gasilske intervencije. Uporabniki bodo imeli prost dostop do pregleda intervencij, videli lokacijo, točen datum in opis. Imeli bodo možnost prijave na potisna obvestila in bili obveščeni, ko bo v določeni občini aktivna nova intervencija. Opravili bodo lahko klic prijave nesreče, kateri se bo skupaj z lokacijo, kjer je bil klic opravljen, poslal v podatkovno bazo. Implementiral sem tudi spletno aplikacijo, katero bi uporabljal reševalni center za vnos nove intervencije in pregled klicev prijav nesreč. Goal of this thesis is development of mobile applicaiton SPIN, which will be avalible for everyone, who is interested in actual firefighter interventions. Users will have free access of reviewing interventions, see their location, exact date and description. They can sign up to push notifications and be notified, when there will be new intervention in a specific place. They will be able to make a call of reporting new accident, which will be together with exact location where the call was made, sent in database. I also implemented web applaction, which will be used by emergency center for inserting new intervention and viewing calls of reported accidents.

Curs acadèmic: 2018/2019 En este documento se detalla la memoria del trabajo de final de grado realizado por el alumno Rolf Patrick Montañés Ringdal durante su estancia en prácticas. El proyecto desarrollado trata de una aplicación web con carácter empresarial diseñada para la empresa FACSA. Dicho proyecto fue efectuado en la empresa Grupo Gimeno en el departamento de ADC Infraestructuras y Sistemas SL. La finalidad principal de este proyecto es facilitar la gestión de licitaciones de la empresa FACSA centralizando todos los datos adjuntos a las licitaciones en un único sistema. Además de esto, se ha decidido incluir: un calendario propio, la sincronización con calendarios de Microsoft Outlook y un sistema de notificaciones push. Todas estas inclusiones hacen más cómoda la planificación de las reuniones asociadas a estas licitaciones. El desarrollo del proyecto consistió en dos partes. Por un lado se desarrolló la parte web, también conocida como "el frontend", donde se utilizó el framework de Angular con TypeScript como lenguaje de programación. Por otro lado se desarrolló la parte del servidor, también conocida como "el backend", en la cual se utilizó el framework de Spring con Java como lenguaje de programación.

In the fake news era, a combination of politics, big technology, and fear and animosity are blamed for the media mistrust and filter bubbles that are entrenching fragmentation in the public sphere. A partisan divide in the media and extreme political disagreements are nothing new, but new technology, such as social media and mobile push notifications, influences these years-old phenomena and plays an important role in current concerns. This paper explores how stories are represented differently by topic and across platforms, examining representation, polarization, and objectivity. Specifically, this paper looks at those issues from a novel perspective: through sentiment analysis of push notifications generated and archived from the Breaking News App on disasters, gun violence, and terrorism. Results indicate that partisan news organizations (1) emphasize different stories; (2) label the same events as categorically different; (3) hyperbolize and emotionalize different types of stories; and, (4) represent different categories of breaking news stories to different degrees of subjectivity.

The aim of the research was to develop a marketing strategy of the Zorge marketing tool and describe its usage in e-commerce. Zorge web application will be an automatic marketing tool that will use cloud computing technology. The main benefits of the tool will be its multiuse and ability to display adverts to users who use ad blockers and create an interaction of all ads, allowing users to show relevant advertising to their website visitors. Zorge web application will be used for advert construction - pop-ups, push notifications and inner website banners, that can be placed on a clients website. It can be done by pasting short JavaScript code in their website HTML file after users will be able to manage their adverts inside their Zorge web application. The author examined several topics to develop the web application architecture - digital marketing technology current developments, competitor home pages, competitor web applications and an economic embodiment were explored. Within the research was developed a marketing strategy for the Zorge web application.

Web aplikacija koja se sastoji od dvije zasebne manje web aplikacije s API sučeljem koje služe za planiranje i prikaz podataka o konferenciji. Jedna aplikacija je administracijsko sučelje u kojem administrator može unositi podatke o konferencijama, autorima, sekcijama, izlaganjima te kreirati push notifikacije koje će se prikazivati krajnjim korisnicima. Druga aplikacija je aplikacija za krajnje korisnike koja unesene podatke u administratorskom sučelju dohvaća preko API sučelja koje zatim prikazuje u obliku vremenske crte, modalnog prikaza i sažimajućih izbornika. Implementirana je na način da podržava responzivnost i stavke progresivnih web aplikacija. Web application for planning and displaying data on the conference’s events which can be separated into two smaller web applications with API interface. One application is intended for administrator users where they can insert data on conferences, authors, sections, presentations, also they can create push notifications which will then be shown on a client application. The second application is intended for end users in which all inserted data in admin application is shown as timeline, modal views, and collapse menus. It is implemented in a way that it supports progressive web application features and responsiveness.
