To date, health in the context of climate change has mainly been considered from a biomedical perspective, whose pathogenic focus on health risks has primarily promoted curative and/or behavioral problem-solving strategies. This article therefore examines health in climate change from a perspective of Urban Public Health and political science, which has received less attention so far. The aim is to address existing constructions of health in climate change and their implications for dealing with the climate crisis, in particular regarding the design of urban environments. In doing so, it adopts a regulation-theoretical approach that allows for a theoretically grounded analysis of health in climate change, taking the triangle of nature, society and the individual as the object of research and revealing the significance of existing constructions of health--understood as a social relation--and its (re)production in climate change. This theoretical approach is extended to aspects of different spatial forms and the productions of space in social relations. The theoretical foundation makes it possible to recognize that there are understandings of health in climate change discourse that largely exclude the causes of climate change and thus make its treatment selective. As a result, broad socio-ecological transformation processes are obstructed, while the structural causes of climate change are preserved and stabilized despite their crisis character. An understanding of health that also sees health as a resource in a salutogenic sense and that strengthens the promotion of health by means of structural changes is being pushed into background. Positioning climate change as a public health issue requires a shift from curative, individual and behavioral interventions toward a focus on structural health promotion, especially through the development of health-promoting, just and climate-friendly urban environments. This article is concerned with the historical evolution of the mining industry in Canada since 1859. The focus is directed on changes that occurred in the industry and allows for the identification of four distinct mining regimes. These regimes are defined using the Regulation Theory, which connects conditions of production, technical progress, financial structures, and social relations. The identification of regimes gives a portrait of continuity and change in the industry. Continuity is present in the active role of the state, the legal framework based on Free Mining Principle and persistent speculation in the industry. Change is illustrated in price cycle, labour share and technological innovation. Interestingly, through time, price cycles have very different outcomes in financial and real economic terms. The most recent upswing in the late 1990s resulted in a punctual increase of financial assets but no significant increase in employment. Through this discussion, it becomes evident that the mechanisms underlying continuity and change have implications on the nature of state intervention and on the distribution of power between the corporate and regional actors like the workers and indigenous communities. In a context of proliferation of concepts proposed by the Japanese government and major other stakeholders, this paper aims at determining whether it is the sign of an intellectual and political dynamism that would prepare the emergence of a new model or the symptom of a loss of bearings after years of neoliberalism. More precisely, it focuses on the relations between the Society 5.0 vision and the 'new/sustainable' capitalism one. In mobilizing the Régulation theory framework and a non-Schumpeterian approach to innovation, it put into their institutional context several reports that are advocating these visions. Our major conclusion is that, despite some conceptual similarities, several contradictions and dissonance between these visions are major impediments to the development of a new model. This article critically evaluates the Reform of Vocational Education (RoVE) reforms in New Zealand which were prompted by a financial crisis in the sector. Despite the best efforts of policy makers, faith in New Zealand's market-led system has been in decline for many years and the RoVE takes the decline in faith in New Zealand's market-led system a decisive step further. Drawing on the regulation theory and new localism literatures, this article argues that RoVE has emerged as the latest flanking mechanism, or palliative activity, designed primarily to address legitimation deficits created by the decline in the efficacy of New Zealand's market-led system of VE. The article investigates the institutional roots of the Swiss organized capitalism that contributed to the success of its industrialization and its subsequent economic growth during the second industrial revolution (1880–1913). Recent literature underlines the link between public and private actors and shows that the second industrial revolution in Switzerland owed its success to state-led organized capitalism. If the majority of studies analysed in detail one or more components of the Swiss organized capitalism, to our knowledge, there are no works seeking to explain the (institutional) construction of this organized capitalism by mobilizing a large number of factors in a single theoretical frame of reference. Using the Regulation Theory approach, this article sheds light on the institutional construction of the Swiss organized capitalism. We show that it rested on original institutional arrangements driven by the necessity to survive on external markets. We therefore demonstrate that these arrangements also enabled Switzerland to successfully deal with the production of essential public goods supporting both industrialization and national social bonds required to promote political unity. The 2008 great financial crisis brought the question of the cyclical development of capitalism back to the center of political economy. To understand the nature of post-crisis capitalism, it is inevitable to evaluate the literature on the temporal phases of capitalism. This article presents four theories about the periodization of capitalism: the social structure of accumulation theory, regulation theory, techno-economic paradigm approach and systemic cycles of accumulation school. The article shows that, despite the different perspectives, each of the phasing approaches leads to similar results about the periods of capitalism. Moreover, the article concludes that every phase of capitalism has four elements: techno-economic paradigm, socio-institutional structures, demand regime and hegemonic state. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article explores the use of standard clauses in therapeutic transactions and the importance of informed consent in the doctor-patient relationship. It discusses the rights and obligations of both parties and the role of informed consent in medical disputes. The research method used is juridical-normative, and the results show that standard clauses do not violate the principle of freedom of contract. The article also highlights the need for more detailed standard clauses in the preparation of informed consent forms in Indonesia. It emphasizes the four pillars of medical ethics that doctors must adhere to and explains how the use of standard clauses in informed consent can increase legal protection for patients, doctors, and health service facilities. The article provides a case study involving a patient who filed a complaint against a hospital and a doctor for alleged violations of informed consent, and discusses how the court considered the evidence and concluded that the defendants had fulfilled their obligations. Based on joint borrowing and a significant transfer component, NextGenerationEU stands in contrast to Germany's longstanding rejection of a 'debt' and 'transfer union'. This article probes into the determinants of this shift in Germany's European policy approach. Focusing on the conflicts in Germany over the 'deepening' of the Monetary Union through fiscal capacity building between 2015 and 2020, it investigates which actors, interests and strategies instigated this shift. The analysis is based on trade and exchange rate data, a qualitative document analysis of position papers as well as expert interviews with interest group representatives, parliamentarians and civil servants. Theoretically, the study draws on concepts from regulation theory, materialist state theory and neo‐Gramscianism. It argues that even though not a fundamental paradigm shift, Germany's push for NextGenerationEU indicates a strategic re‐orientation of parts of the German power bloc towards European fiscal integration, amplified by recent geopolitical dynamics and crisis tendencies. Ireland's economy is currently characterized by two phenomena: a highly globalized growth regime predicated on multinational corporate profit-shifting, and a domestic economy (concentrated in the capital, Dublin) experiencing severe housing crisis. This paper links these two phenomena together, and argues that they be considered as evidence of the emergence of a new accumulation regime, in which a specific mode of integration within the global economy both favours the emergence of, and embeds, particular patterns of domestic rent exploitation. To demonstrate this the paper combines a new synthesis of French régulation theory, as modified to account for transnational dynamics, with an updated reading of Gramsci's analysis of (pre-Fordist) rent exploitation, applying this framework to redefine Ireland's growth model as an emerging transnational accumulation regime of rentier character. In this work, the problem of following references and rejecting disturbances that are contaminated with noise and whose dynamics are too complex to have a mathematical model that describes the behavior of such signals is studied. In addition to exploiting the capabilities of the Kalman filter (KF) to clean the signals so that they can serve as external signals for the regulation theory, the construction of the generating system (exosystem) is proposed as a diagonal system by blocks, where each block is a Kalman filter that estimates each one of the corresponding reference/disturbance signals. The viability of the approach is verified by two examples, mimicking the problem of tracking a flying object moving freely in the 3D space by a quadrotor which is under the influence of the proposed controller when the displacements of the arbitrary flying object are measured by low-cost sensors.

Based on the regulation theory and high-gain observers, in this paper, a controller for tracking and/or rejecting unmodeled but measurable signals is designed. Considering that the measurable reference/disturbance signals are bounded and smooth, it is proven that the missing dynamical models for such signals can be estimated by high-gain observers of dimensions equal to or greater than one. Then, the corresponding high-gain observers are embedded into an auxiliary system, known as the exosystem, allowing in this way, that the regulation theory can be applied and the new equations to be solved are also given. Because the exosystem is directly constructed from the high-gain observers, the proposed controller is robust in the sense that it is capable of tracking/rejecting any bounded and smooth signal as long as the estimations of the high-gain observers are sufficiently accurate. This article focuses on the concept of home in old age in the context of a sheltered housing facility. Drawing on regulation theory, we examine how the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic shapes the sense of home in this type of housing. The search for control over one's daily routine during the lockdown serves as an indicator of the dynamics of expansion and contraction in the perimeter of the home. The way in which sheltered housing tenants comply with stay-at-home recommendations during the lockdown reveals certain aspects of their sense of home. The unusual character of the regulatory measures introduced during confinement increases the importance of perceptions of the meaning of the home among older adults with regard to their self-image and relationship to the surrounding environment. We are increasingly surrounded by talk of digitalization. Yet, we remain unsure about what impact this digitalization will have upon socio-economic institutions, how the introduction of this digitalization will be contested, the likely role of the state in managing the adoption of digital technology, and the likely consequences for the broader political economy if and when it is introduced. This article examines the process of digitalization as it has unfolded in the service sector in Japan. Based on qualitative interviews with managers in the hospitality industry and union officials, the paper depicts a process that contrasts starkly with the more optimistic view adopted by some commentators, according to which digitalization has the potential to improve working conditions and contribute to a more stable form of growth. Instead, the paper draws on Regulation Theory to argue that the introduction of digitalization is part of a wider process of neoliberalization. As such, digitalization has contributed to deskilling, the fragmentation of work tasks, a digital divide, the intensification of work, and higher levels of workplace surveillance. Historical-materialist policy analysis (HMPA) aims at analyzing how specific policies are formulated against the background of essentially competing and contradictory interests of different social forces. It examines how, if at all, these policies contribute to societal reproduction and the regulation of social contradictions and crisis tendencies. This article provides a concise introduction to HMPA as well as to the key theoretical concepts and perspectives underpinning its policy concept. Against this background, it further elaborates on how to operationalize HMPA for empirical research, drawing on but also going beyond the three-step process of context-, actors- and process-analysis suggested by the Research Group 'State Project Europe'. In this way, we seek to enhance the analytical and methodological repertoire of historical materialist political science, and at the same time open up new analytical perspectives within the comprehensive field of critical policy analysis. Drawing upon Marxian and regulation theory, this article seeks to identify key dynamics and contradictions of capitalist accumulation in China between 1995 and 2015 and to explain these in their institutional context. To this end, data from national accounts and input-output tables is re-mapped to estimate Marxian categories such as the rates of surplus value and profit. The article demonstrates how the transformation of the wage relation and an increase in the rate of surplus value lie at the core of a predominantly extensive accumulation regime that enabled rapid and uncoordinated growth facilitated by world market integration. In the wake of the global crisis, however, a confluence of contradictions has led to over-accumulation and a decline in profitability, clear symptoms of exhaustion of the accumulation regime that explain the current slowdown under the "New Normal." The underlying contradictions are rooted in the institutional context of the "Socialist Market Economy," but especially in the wage relation, which no longer supports sufficient increases in the rate of surplus value or a regular pace of accumulation. The study presented in this article aims to highlight the relationship between the regulation of innovative activities as a way of increasing competitiveness and the consequent economic performance of the G-20 member countries. Because of the above objective, we sought to answer the research hypothesis: Does the influence of the regulation of the innovative environment contribute to increasing the competitiveness of countries? The study was conducted through quantitative research using indicators from countries belonging to the G20, published in the World Competitiveness Report of the World Economic Forum (FEM). The data were submitted to statistical analysis, through multiple linear regression. The results obtained allowed to identify the positive contribution to the regulation of the economy influenced by the degree of competitiveness and, consequently, the innovative capacity of the countries studied. Geographically uneven support: the spatial selectivity of public aid for household residential real estate investment in France. The capacity of the State to influence the accumulation process of real estate assets is strongly established by the regulation theory and radical geography. Yet, to date, the geographical forms of this mechanism remain under-studied. This paper therefore analyses the geographical perimeters of eligibility for five real estate investment aids in France over the period 2003-2019. Drawing on this study, we underscore the growing importance of geographical criteria for access to State support for households wealth accumulation. We highlight the contrast between, on the one hand, the relegation both financially and geographically of aid for social access to ownership and access to second-hand dwellings, and, on the other, the concentration of State support for rental investment in high demand areas. Beyond shedding light on the geographical unevenness of the mode of regulation, the article suggests that the spatial selectivity of the State entails a segmentation of the national space aimed at household investors. Against the backdrop of the ecological and climate emergencies and several other deep crises, advocates of degrowth call for democratic transitions towards societies that can thrive beyond economic growth within ecological boundaries while being socially equitable. In recent years, scholarship has emerged that brings together the emerging degrowth paradigm with insights from political economy. Yet much contemporary political economy continues to ignore the environment and, by implication, the ecological downsides of economic growth. The present contribution criticizes this state of affairs and highlights the promises of a synthesis of contemporary critical political economy and the growth-critical tradition in ecological economics. Standing electric scooters (e-scooters)' rapid infiltration as a mobility option has left cities in the limbo of having to deal with regulation and planning for their sudden interruption. As the first city in Australia to allow e-scooter sharing, Brisbane is at the forefront of regulating their use in public space. We reflect on how e-scooter governance can be considered a continually (re)negotiated site of state-market interface, drawing insights from Lindblom's science of muddling through, Dewey's socially organised intelligence, and Leitner, Peck, and Sheppard's discussion on contesting market domination/modes of social regulation. A focus on institutions is shared by Régulation Theory and Institutional Economics although each holds a different view of the organization of the capitalist economy. It is argued that, despite the lack of definitional clarity of the term "institution," Régulation Theory provides "institutional insights" which could be usefully deployed by Institutional Economics. It is also posited that both heterodox traditions should more explicitly conceive of institutions to account for phenomena that transcend national borders, and to render explicit the social ontology underpinning an institution's conceptualization, otherwise the methodological usefulness of this analytical construct to elucidate social reality is reduced. This paper contends that forms of nationalism, from progressive to regressive, link closely with the form of the prevailing "model of development." Specifically, first, this paper makes the case that the present political struggle between an ascending alt-right "regressive nationalism" and a declining "neoliberal cosmopolitanism" is inscribed in the contradictory but interacting logics of the national and global dimensions of the "neoliberal model of development." In this conjuncture, the anti-neoliberal democratic socialist Left is also growing. However, while without an interlocking ideological imaginary and regulatory blueprint of a nationally progressive model of global development, it struggles to take center stage. As government and public administration lag behind the rapid development of AI in their efforts to provide adequate governance, they need respective concepts to keep pace with this dynamic progress. The literature provides few answers to the question of how government and public administration should respond to the great challenges associated with AI and use regulation to prevent harm. This study analyzes AI challenges and former AI regulation approaches. Based on this analysis and regulation theory, an integrated AI governance framework is developed that compiles key aspects of AI governance and provides a guide for the regulatory process of AI and its application. This article deals with actual collaborations and cross-fertilization between Régulation Theory — a French institutional economics school — and the Bourdieusian sociology of fields, together with that of Neil Fligstein. First, we show that Régulation Theory has slowly incorporated several concepts and methods of the sociology of fields, due to their similar research agenda. Indeed, using a genetic structuralist method, both approaches have sought to analyze the reproduction and the endogenous changes of institutions, and this by focusing on the one hand on capitalism and on the other upon social fields. Second, we show that the sociology of fields provides relevant frameworks for studying the competitive and institutional dynamics of sectors. This article brings in the concept of the 'neoliberal model of development' as a corrective to the prevailing emphasis in the literature that usefully describes neoliberalism as a nationally diverging phenomenon but does not adequately examine the mid-range trans-national/global regulatory connection or the logics of national convergence. By extending the concept of regulation and specifying the national trans-national connection, this article revises the original Parisian French Regulation School conception of a 'model of development' and makes it applicable to the contemporary neoliberal era. It then applies this revised conception to help explain contemporary patterns of national convergence and divergence. In particular, with reference to Marx's theory of the 'relative surplus population', this article explores capitalism's uneven development as a form of national variation intensified by the neoliberal model of development. This revisionist analysis of model of development also demonstrates how its praxis dimension is significant for explaining past and present mid-range variations of capitalism, and more importantly for making a mid-range counter-hegemonic future. This paper draws upon regulationist perspectives to explore the rationales which inform low-carbon economic development at the city level. This work is developed through a case study of low-carbon policy making in Liverpool, UK. The paper identifies conflict between those who argue for deeper engagement with the emerging low-carbon policy domain, and others who remain committed to maintaining existing patterns of growth. The paper argues that regulationist-inspired perspectives particularly help understand places where the transition to a low-carbon economy can falter in the face of competing agendas such as reigniting growth and coping with austerity. Social Geography of Tourism arises from a sociological perspective in the application of the geographical approach and his proximity to tourism. The originality of the term at the international level reveals the limited spread of criticism and social theory and, especially, geographical thoughtlessness in this field of studies. The object of this research is a social space of tourism, a spatial representation of a knowledge-emancipation to create a social change, a production of space outside the rationality regulated by the capitalist market and its neoliberalism pedagogy. The ecological crisis has intensified in many respects. Prominent proposals to deal with the crisis are discussed under the header 'sustainability transformations' or even 'Great Transformation'. We argue that most contributions suffer from a narrow analytical approach to transformation ignoring the largely unsustainable dynamics of global capitalism and the power relations involved in it. Thus, a 'new critical orthodoxy' of knowledge about transformation is emerging which runs the danger to contribute to a spatially and socially highly uneven green capitalism. This article claims that the current debate on social-ecological transformation can be enriched by a Polanyian understanding but also based on regulation theory. We distinguish between three types of transformation: incremental adaptation of the current institutional systems, institutional change in favour of a new 'green' phase of capitalism, and a post-capitalist great transformation that implies a profound structural change of the mode of production and living. This paper deals with the crisis of Fordism, based on the theory of crises elaborated by Regulation Theory, also addressing the origins and foundations of this school. In the context of the end of the years of vigorous capitalist growth in the 1970s, the Regulation School emerged as a new stream of economic thought, building an analysis of the process and dynamics of capitalist accumulation. In particular, this school was consolidated in the economic theory from the elaboration of its theory of crisis. Thus, it provided alternative interpretations of the 1970s’ crisis, countering the explanations of traditional economic theory, by considering crisis as an endogenous phenomenon. Starting from this proposition to understand the crisis of Fordism, a theory with broad explanatory potential was found, from whose study a broader understanding of economic phenomena can be obtained.

In this work, the regulation problem is extended to the field of fractional-order linear systems considering the Caputo fractional derivative. The regulation equations are obtained on the basis of the Francis equations.
