Medial gastrocnemius silent contractures (MGSCs) are prevalent, notably impacting functional status and increasing the risk of foot and ankle disorders, especially among aging populations. Although traditionally managed by podiatrists and physiotherapists, the role of rehabilitation nursing in addressing MGSCs is gaining recognition. This paper elucidates the contributions of rehabilitation nursing to the functional rehabilitation of MGSC patients and underscores its vital role within the multidisciplinary team. Initially, the paper defines the clinical and physiological characteristics of MGSCs and their implications in foot and ankle disorders. It then meticulously explores rehabilitation nursing interventions—including personalized stretching regimens, vibration therapy, balance exercises, and judicious footwear selection—emphasizing their efficacy in enhancing muscle flexibility, joint mobility, and postural stability. The emphasis is on patient-centered approaches and education to foster treatment adherence and positive rehabilitation outcomes. The significance of interdisciplinary collaboration is highlighted, focusing on how rehabilitation nursing optimizes patient care and mitigates complications. The paper advocates for recognizing and integrating rehabilitation nursing in managing MGSC-related disorders, emphasizing its importance in achieving successful functional outcomes. - Abstract
Women undergoing breast surgery with axillary lymph node dissection continue to experience complications in the ipsilateral upper limb, impacting their daily lives and quality of life. This study aims to evaluate the relationship between quality of life (overall and specific) and the functional capacity of patients undergoing breast surgery with lymph node clearance before and after implementing a rehabilitation program. This short-term quasi-experimental study included 48 women, and the design did not include control groups. Data collection involved a sociodemographic and clinical characterization questionnaire, the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand questionnaire, and the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire Core-30 and Breast Cancer questionnaires. The study revealed a significant negative association between all general functional subscales and the functionality of the ipsilateral upper limb, except for emotional (p 0.941) and cognitive (p 0.927) functional scales. The functional capacity of the ipsilateral upper limb following surgery influences the quality of life of women undergoing breast surgery. The study concluded that monitoring the quality of life is essential to underscore the importance of providing access to rehabilitation to minimize or eliminate these changes, thus contributing to a better quality of life for these women. Background: Lumbar disc herniation (LDH) is a common cause of lower back pain and radiculopathy. In recent years, the enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) concept has been increasingly applied in orthopedics and gastrointestinal surgery. Purpose: To investigate the effect of using rapid rehabilitation surgical care for lumbar disc herniation by meta-analysis. Data source: Google Scholar, PubMed Medical, Cochrane and Embase databases were used for the analysis. Research selection: An initial search yielded a total of 322 relevant articles. Duplicate pieces of literature were screened using Endnote. In addition, non-randomized controlled trials and studies with a sample size of less than 30 were excluded. A total of seven papers were included in this study. Main outcomes: The Rapid Rehabilitation Surgical Nursing (RRSN) group showed significantly higher patient satisfaction (RR = 1.24; 95% CI: 1.06, 1.26; p < 0.01) and self-assessed health (Total MD = 5.67; 95% CI: 4.27, 7.06; p < 0.01) compared to the Normal Nursing (NN) group. Pain levels (MD = −0.66; 95% CI: −0.97, −0.36; p < 0.01), disability levels (MD = −18.64; 95% CI: −32.53, −4.76; p < 0.01), anxiety risk (SAS-MD = −4.33; 95% CI: −6.23, −2.44; p < 0.01), and depression risk (SDS-MD = −4.29; 95% CI: −7.50, −1.07; p < 0.01) were significantly lower in the RRSN group compared to the NN group. According to the GRADE classification, the certainty for patient satisfaction is high, while the certainty for post-care pain, functional capacity, risk of psychological disorders, and self-assessed health status is moderate. Conclusions: Rapid recovery surgical nursing can significantly improve postoperative recovery of lumbar disc herniation, increase patient satisfaction, reduce the risk of psychological disorders, improve lumbar function, and alleviate patient pain. Gastrointestinal (GI) cancers are the most common malignancies, while surgical intervention remains the sole therapeutic approach offering the possibility of a definite cure for cancer. Perioperative anxiety negatively impacts the recovery of GI cancers. Recently, mounting studies have demonstrated that proper nursing interventions may alleviative perioperative anxious illnesses in patients with GI cancers. We conducted a first comprehensive review to summarize all the current evidence on this topic. After a systematically search in the six common databases, eighteen relevant studies were included for further analysis. The present review highlighted that there is a high prevalence of perioperative anxiety in patients with GI cancers (e.g., colorectal cancer, gastric/stomach cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma, gallbladder cancer, and esophageal cancer), while specific nursing interventions are the reliable methods to reduce postoperative anxiety. These nursing strategies include, but are not limited to, therapeutic listening intervention, implementing perioperative music, predictive nursing, progressive relaxation exercises, psychological interventions in the nursing care, comprehensive nursing, continuous nursing care, video-based nursing education, multidisciplinary cooperative continuous care, accelerated rehabilitation nursing, TCM nursing, evidence-based early warning nursing, target nursing care, and high-quality nursing. Since several limitations existed in the eligible studies as well as in this review, a well-designed multicenter RCT with large sample size is still warranted for the confirmation of nursing intervention for managing perioperative anxiety in patients with GI cancers. Also, future studies should focus on the long-term effects of relevant interventions, specific patient populations, multidisciplinary approaches, technological innovations, and educational programs. - Abstract
To study the effect of preoperative chemoradiotherapy combined with rehabilitation nursing in patients with rectal cancer surgery. 106 cases of rectal cancer patients in our hospital were selected. 53 cases in each group were treated with surgical treatment combined with rehabilitation nursing treatment and preoperative radiotherapy and chemotherapy combined with surgical treatment and rehabilitation nursing treatment in the study group. The T stage (ypT) and N stage (ypN) downgrading rates of serum carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and carbohydrate antigen (CA)19–9 were compared between the two groups after treatment. The 5-year cumulative survival rate, recurrence rate and the positive rate of Bax and antigen identified by monoclonal antibody Ki-67 (Ki-67) expression were detected. T stage downgrading rate and N stage downgrading rate were 77.36% (41/53) 35.85% (19/53) in control group and 94.34% (50/53) 64.15% (34/53) in research group, respectively. The CEA and CA19–9 levels measured at the end of surgery and one month after nursing in both groups were lower than those before treatment. After treatment, scores of quality of life indicators in both groups increased. The positive rates of Bax and Ki-67Ki-67 were significantly different between the two groups after treatment (P < 0.05). Preoperative chemoradiotherapy combined with rehabilitation nursing has obvious effect on patients with rectal cancer surgery, and has obvious advantages in inhibiting tumor growth, destroying tumor survival immune environment and reducing surgical complications, which can improve the prognosis and is worthy of clinical application. It could provide a potential treatment for patients with rectal cancer. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Nutritional care plays a critical role in patient recovery, and understanding its impact requires a biochemical perspective. This article proposes a nursing care intervention grounded in biochemical principles to improve patient outcomes. The intervention is informed by the Amalgamation of Marginal Gains (AMG) model, a performance improvement tool from sports and medicine, which focuses on identifying small, cumulative improvements to enhance overall outcomes. The present study evaluates current knowledge on nutritional care by reviewing relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that examine multimodal, multidisciplinary approaches integrating biochemical and nutritional strategies. This study presents a nursing care intervention that incorporates the AMG model, emphasizing incremental improvements to optimize nutritional outcomes. The present study systematically reviews RCTs that explore the efficacy of multimodal therapies in nutritional care. It evaluates the methodologies used in these trials, including selection criteria, intervention protocols, and outcome measures, to better understand their impact on patient recovery. The RCTs review indicates that multimodal nutritional interventions have a positive effect on food intake, nutritional status, fall incidence, health outcomes, physical performance, and quality of life in elderly patients. However, results were not consistently reliable across studies, underscoring the challenges inherent in dietary treatment. The findings also highlight the growing importance of collaborative nursing care, with nurses playing a key role in patient education, self-management, and coordination of care to ensure effective nutritional support. By integrating biochemical principles into nutritional care, nurses can provide more tailored and effective support for patients during recovery. Comprehensive assessments, collaborative care plans, patient education, continuous monitoring, and advocacy are essential for optimizing nutritional interventions and improving patient outcomes [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Heart transplantation is the gold-standard treatment for terminal heart failure. Despite being successful, pre- and post-transplant limitations interfere with patients’ functional capacity, self-care, and quality of life post-surgery. Rehabilitation is necessary to address these limitations, prevent complications, and promote a safe return home. This study analyzes the safety of a phase 1 cardiac rehabilitation protocol (RN4HTx) in heart transplant patients and its effects on self-care capacity. A quantitative, descriptive study was conducted with 19 heart transplant recipients. The protocol was implemented in collaboration with a rehabilitation professional, who monitored adverse events, hemodynamic variables, self-care capacity (Barthel) pre- and post-transplant, and functional capacity at discharge (6 min walk test). The results showed that 68.42% of recipients were men, with an average age of 50.21 years and 15 days of hospitalization post-transplant. Approximately 73.68% of recipients were transferred from other wards with changes in functional capacity. All patients progressed to the final stage of the program without adverse events. There was a notable improvement in self-care capacity before and after transplantation, with a measure of functional status of 310.035 m (6MWT). The study found that RN4HTx is a feasible cardiac rehabilitation program without adverse events in the immediate postoperative period following heart transplantation, positively impacting functional recovery and therapeutic self-care capacity, thus increasing the safety of returning home. This study was retrospectively registered on Clinical Trials—NCT06552390.

ABSTRACT Aim Design Methods Results Conclusion Implication for the Profession and Patient Care Patient or Public Contribution This study aimed to establish a comprehensive set of nursing‐sensitive quality indicators (NSQIs) for patients with dysphagia following tracheotomy due to acquired brain injury (ABI), based on the ‘structure‐process‐outcome’ model.A Delphi survey. The research utilised a mixed‐methods approach, including systematic literature reviews, qualitative interviews and two rounds of Delphi expert consultations. A diverse team comprising specialists in dysphagia rehabilitation and nursing management conducted the research, which involved defining and refining NSQIs through extensive evaluations and consensus among recruited experts. The finalised NSQI includes 4 structural indicators, 13 process indicators and 4 outcome indicators, covering key aspects such as resource allocation, patient assessment and clinical outcomes. The expert consensus provides verification. Kendall's harmony coefficients are 0.304 and 0.138 (p < 0.001), respectively, and the mean importance assignments of indicators at all levels are 3.90–5.00. The final care of patients with tracheotomy and dysphagia after brain injury was constructed. The evaluation indicators include a total of 4 first‐level indicators, 23 second‐level indicators and 52 third‐level indicators. The established NSQIs offer a systematic framework to enhance the quality of nursing care for ABI patients with posttracheotomy dysphagia. This model facilitates precise monitoring and proactive management of nursing practices, promising better patient outcomes and streamlined care processes. This study develops targeted NSQIs to improve dysphagia management in ABI patients’ posttracheotomy, fostering better patient outcomes and advancing nursing education through essential specialised training.Expert‐driven insights from experienced clinicians informed the NSQIs, ensuring their relevance and effectiveness in enhancing patient‐centred care. ABSTRACT Aim Design Methods Results Conclusions Implications for the Profession and/or Patient Care Impact Reporting Method Patient or Public Contribution To analyse how nurses describe their interactions with other interdisciplinary team members within stroke and geriatric rehabilitation.A secondary analysis of cross‐sectional ethnographic interview data was conducted using Elo and Kyngäs' (2008) deductive content analysis.Between April 12 and July 25, 2022, semi‐structured interviews were conducted with 31 registered practical nurses recruited through convenience sampling from three tertiary hospital sites in Southwestern Ontario. Interview transcripts were reviewed to identify described interactions between nurses and interdisciplinary team members and were coded for: who were the interdisciplinary team member(s) involved; what content was addressed; and where, when, and why the interaction occurred.Categories representing how nurses describe their interactions with interdisciplinary team members were as follows: (1) arising from the unique roles owned by either the nurse or interdisciplinary team member(s); (2) requiring open communication to achieve patient goals and improve patient care; (3) occurring within what is perceived to be either the therapists' or nurses' physical space; and (4) contributing to supportive team environments that are mutually beneficial. While nurses view other interdisciplinary team members as ‘owning’ certain roles and physical spaces within rehabilitation, they also recognised their ‘owned’ spaces and roles. Unique contributions of all team members were valued as necessary to provide holistic, person‐centred patient care and positive team‐based support.Nurses' descriptions of their interactions with interdisciplinary team members demonstrated their essential contributions to team‐based patient care and acknowledged nurse contributions to the rehabilitation process for patients.Findings elucidate the nature of interprofessional interactions and ‘ownership’ within the rehabilitation process. Results are beneficial for policymakers, educators, and healthcare organisations aiming to optimise the nursing role within rehabilitation spaces. The Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Research Checklist (COREQ).No patient or public contribution. Introduction: With the ageing of the global population and the rise in noncommunicable diseases, there is an increased need for rehabilitation services, especially those that address the specific needs of ageing populations. Through their proximity to patients, nurses play a critical role in providing rehabilitation interventions for older adults in primary health care. However, they are not yet established as typical rehabilitation providers and further research is needed to clarify their role and competencies to optimize rehabilitation interventions for ageing populations. Objectives: Therefore, this secondary analysis of a scoping review aims to describe the role of nurses in the provision of rehabilitation interventions to ageing populations in primary health care. Methods: This review was carried out following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews. It is built on all inclusion and exclusion criteria from the primary analysis and focused on studies including nurses and taking place in primary health care. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, as well as qualitative analysis on the role of nurses. Results: A total of 68 studies from high- and upper-middle income countries were included. Nurses typically had a managerial and clinical role (76%) and worked in multidisciplinary teams (54%), most often with physical therapists. Nurses provided 355 interventions, with assessments (n = 106; 30%), and coordination and management of the rehabilitation process (n = 105; 30%) being the most frequent ones. They had 117 different job titles and little information was available about their educational background. Discussion: This paper contributes to a better understanding of the key role nurses play in providing rehabilitation interventions to ageing populations in primary health care. Matching nurses' competencies with their level of proficiency is essential to ensure quality care in rehabilitation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Some pulmonary tuberculosis patients may require lung resection surgery. Postoperative pulmonary rehabilitation is essential to restore the lung function and maintain quality of life. We aimed to study the pulmonary rehabilitation outcomes and complications of step-by-step Baduanjin exercise under a doctor-nurse-patient integration mode in patients after lobectomy due to pulmonary tuberculosis. Methods: We performed a randomized controlled clinical trial in patients undergoing lobectomy due to pulmonary tuberculosis between September 2017 and August 2021. Eligible patients were randomly assigned into the control group or interventional group. The control group received routine postoperative care. The interventional group received step-by-step Baduanjin exercise based on the doctor-nurse-patient integration mode in addition to the routine care. The primary outcomes were the pulmonary functions, including forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1), forced vital capacity (FVC), and FEV1/FVC. The secondary outcomes were the maximum walking distance in a 6-min walk test and postoperative pulmonary complications, including atelectasis, pneumonia, and respiratory failure. Results: A total of 100 patients were enrolled into the study, with 50 patients in the control and interventional groups. There were 60 female patients (60%). The mean patient age was 37.9 (± 2.8) years old. At the one- and two-month postoperative follow-ups, pulmonary function tests showed statistically significantly better performances in FEV1/prediction, FVC/prediction, and FEV1/FVC in the interventional group than the control group. The 6-min walk test also revealed longer walking distances in the interventional group than the control group. There were no statistically significant differences in postoperative complications between the two groups. Conclusions: A step-by-step Baduanjin exercise regimen under the doctor-nurse-patient integration mode could safely improve pulmonary rehabilitation in patients after lobectomy due to pulmonary tuberculosis. SOCIAL robots , *HUMAN-robot interaction , *ROBOTICS , *HUMANOID robots , *SOCIAL interaction , *REHABILITATION nursing - Abstract
Recent advances in robotics technology and artificial intelligence (AI) have sparked increased interest in humanoid robots that resemble humans and social robots capable of interacting socially. Alongside this trend, a new field of robot research called human-robot interaction (HRI) is gaining prominence. The aim of this review paper is to introduce the fundamental concepts of HRI and social robots, examine their current applications in the medical field, and discuss the current and future prospects of HRI and social robots in spinal care. HRI is an interdisciplinary field where robotics, AI, social sciences, design, and various disciplines collaborate organically to develop robots that successfully interact with humans as the ultimate goal. While social robots are not yet widely deployed in clinical environments, ongoing HRI research encompasses various areas such as nursing and caregiving support, social and emotional assistance, rehabilitation and cognitive enhancement for the elderly, medical information provision and education, as well as patient monitoring and data collection. Although still in its early stages, research related to spinal care includes studies on robotic support for rehabilitation exercises, assistance in gait training, and questionnaire-based assessments for spinal pain. Future applications of social robots in spinal care will require diverse HRI research efforts and active involvement from spinal specialists. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: This research seeks to investigate how early rehabilitation nursing, guided by Orem's self-care theory, affects cognitive function, neurological function, and daily living skills in individuals who have suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Methods: A study was conducted with 108 patients with traumatic brain injury who were hospitalized at our facility from January 2021 to March 2023. Based on their admission dates, the participants were separated into a control group (n = 56) and an observation group (n = 52). The control group received standard nursing care, while the observation group received a combination of conventional treatment and nursing interventions based on Orem's self-care model. The research assessed alterations in the ability to perform daily tasks (Activities of Daily Living, ADL), neurological health (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale, NIHSS; Glasgow Coma Scale, GCS), and cognitive abilities (Montreal Cognitive Assessment Scale, MoCA; Mini-Mental State Examination, MMSE) in both sets of participants prior to and following 4 and 8weeks of nursing assistance. Results: Following the intervention, the group being observed showed notably increased ADL scores at 4 weeks (p < 0.001) and 8 weeks (p < 0.001) in comparison to the control group. At 4 weeks and 8 weeks after nursing, the observation group had significantly lower NIHSS scores compared to the control group (4 weeks after nursing, p = 0.03; 4 weeks after nursing, p < 0.001). GCS score comparison showed the similar results (4 weeks after nursing, p = 0.013; 4 weeks after nursing, p = 0.003). Moreover, the participants in the observation group had notably higher MoCA and MMSE scores in comparison with the control group 4 and 8 weeks after nursing (all p < 0.001). Conclusion: Orem's self-care theory improves patients' cognitive, neurological, and daily living functions of TBI patients during early rehabilitation nursing. This method helps enhance the level of care given by healthcare professionals, leading to more thorough and compassionate nursing care for patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Energy-based therapies (EBT) are increasingly being used as comfort measures for hospitalized patients. This article describes the background and process of implementing an EBT healing touch (HT) pilot program in an inpatient rehabilitation unit. The pilot built on knowledge gained in a preliminary EBT pilot in two hospital units to improve rehabilitation patient outcomes and gather additional information to support a fully funded, sustainable rehabilitation EBT program. Thirty-five percent of the rehabilitation patients received HT, most commonly for pain and anxiety, by experienced HT practitioners over the 9-month pilot period. Both HT practitioners' and patients' ratings showed that patients' level of pain and anxiety decreased by approximately two points after the HT experience. Documented patient comments confirmed their positive experience, including comments describing a reduction in anxiety and increased sense of calm. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Heart transplantation is the gold-standard treatment for terminal heart failure. Despite being successful, pre- and post-transplant limitations interfere with patients' functional capacity, self-care, and quality of life post-surgery. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to examine the impact of accelerated rehabilitation surgical nursing combined with enteral nutrition on the postoperative recovery of patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty. We enrolled 100 patients admitted to Ankang People's Hospital between January 2021 and December 2022. The patients were randomly divided into a control group and a treatment group. Patients in the control group received routine nursing and targeted dietary guidance, while those in the treatment group received accelerated rehabilitation surgical nursing and enteral nutrition. Patients in the treatment group exhibited lower intraoperative blood loss, postoperative time of getting out of bed, postoperative hospital stays, visual analog scale scores, and incidence of complications than those in the control group. Additionally, patients in the treatment group exhibited higher Harris scores, Barthel indexes, and higher prealbumin, hemoglobin, transferrin, albumin, immunoglobulins G, A, and M levels, and nursing satisfaction than those in the control group. Accelerated rehabilitation surgical nursing combined with enteral nutrition for patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty can effectively improve hip function and life ability recovery, shorten the rehabilitation time, lower the complication rate, promote the nutritional status and immune function and improve the nursing satisfaction rate of patients. This study aimed to explore the effects of early rehabilitation nursing combined with enteral nutrition on acute myocardial infarction patients' recovery and nutritional status after percutaneous coronary intervention. A retrospective analysis was conducted on clinical data from 92 patients who underwent therapy in our hospital following percutaneous coronary intervention from February 2021 to February 2023. These patients were split into a control group and a study group. The control group received standard rehabilitation nursing and routine parenteral nutrition, while the study group was administered early rehabilitation nursing and enteral nutritional support. Post-intervention outcomes showed that the study group had higher left ventricular ejection fraction, cardiac output, 6-minute walking test results, Chinese Cardiovascular Patients' Quality of Life Assessment Questionnaire scores, and total protein and albumin levels compared to the control group (P < 0.05). Furthermore, the study group exhibited a lower incidence of complications and higher nursing satisfaction than the control group (P < 0.05). This indicates that early rehabilitation nursing combined with enteral nutrition is beneficial for enhancing postoperative recovery, improving nutritional status, and elevating the quality of life in patients with acute myocardial infarction after percutaneous coronary intervention. Objective: This study aims to explore the symptom experiences and psychological feelings of lung cancer patients after radical lobectomy in China. Methods: A qualitative study was conducted using face‐to‐face semistructured interviews with lung cancer patients who had a radical lobectomy for treatment of their cancer during the convalescence period. Participants (n = 18) were recruited from a general hospital in China, and patients were selected using purposive sampling from September 2021 to February 2022. Interviews were recorded and transcribed verbatim, and Colaizzi's seven‐step method of phenomenology was used. The Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Research (COREQ) checklist was conducted to report the study. Results: Four themes were extracted from the interview data: physiological dimensions (fatigue, cough or sputum, chest tightness and shortness of breath, daily activities affected, sleep disturbance, lack of appetite); psychological dimensions (negative emotion, fear of cancer recurrence, learning to accept reality, strengthened faith and hope); family dimensions (heavy economic burden, perceived family care, improved health management behavior); and social dimensions (perceived support of medical staff, decreased sense of social value and self‐identity, changes in social and working style). Conclusion: Lung cancer patients are still troubled by many problems during the postoperative recovery period. Medical staff should design and implement effective evaluations and targeted interventions for patients' physical and mental health as soon as possible to improve patients' physical and mental health, as well as their quality of life. One of the most common complications of neurogenic bladder secondary to spinal cord injury (SCI) is urinary incontinence, which is possibly related to bladder-emptying methods and changes in quality of life. This study aimed to identify the occurrence of this complication in adults with SCI and analyze its relationship with bladder-emptying methods, satisfaction, and lifestyle. This is a quantitative, exploratory, and cross-sectional study. The variables were collected using the Bowel and Bladder Treatment Index during a telephone interview with 290 participants from February to November 2021. According to the results, 70% of the participants were male and 74.1% performed clean intermediate catheterization (CIC) as the main bladder-emptying method. Moreover, 55.6% were considered incontinent in the last year. Emptying by normal urination and bladder reflex triggering had a statistically significant relationship with urinary incontinence. A statistical association was observed between all the variables of satisfaction and lifestyle with urinary incontinence. Although CIC reduced urine leakage, a considerable number of participants still presented with frequent urine leakage. Urinary incontinence had a negative impact on satisfaction with the bladder-emptying method, effectiveness of bladder management, quality of life, and personal and social relationships. ABSTRACT Objectives: to analyze the experiences of people with acquired physical disabilities regarding accessibility and social conditions; to identify nurse-led rehabilitation interventions for accessibility and social conditions; to determine nursing-sensitive indicators to improve accessibility and social conditions. Methods: a descriptive-exploratory qualitative study employed semi-structured interviews with people with acquired physical disabilities through purposive snowball sampling to address all objectives. Data analysis followed Bardin’s content analysis principles. Furthermore, objectives 2 and 3 were achieved through a reflective theoretical approach. Results: the 27 participants reported accessibility challenges, impacting activities of living and social conditions. This influences rehabilitation nursing, leading to three intervention fields: Assess the ability to perform activities of living and influencing factors; Develop and implement training to perform activities of living; Promote mobility, accessibility, and social participation. Final Considerations: based on participants experiences, we identified nurse-led rehabilitation interventions to promote accessibility and social conditions.

Abstract Pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) is the bedrock of non-pharmacological treatment for people with COPD. Nonetheless, it is well described in the literature that unless the patient changes his behaviour, the benefits of PR programmes will decline in six to twelve months after finishing the programme. Therefore, maintenance programmes can address the problem of PR programmes’ effect loss over time. Community care units can provide multidisciplinary care in the current Portuguese primary health care context. These units have an interdisciplinary team that aims to develop competencies in COPD patients to self-manage the disease. This study aims to test the effectiveness of a 12-month home-based PR programme (Rehab2Life) compared to usual care through a single-blind randomised controlled trial with two parallel groups. The Rehab2Life programme includes two distinct phases. The first is an 8-week PR programme delivered to both groups, and the second is a PR maintenance programme delivered to the intervention group after the initial eight weeks. The control group receive the usual care and regular appointments. The primary outcome is functional capacity, and secondary outcomes are dyspnea, Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL), number of exacerbations, symptoms burden, anxiety and depression symptoms, and physical activity. We expect to observe that the home-based PR programme brings clinically relevant benefits to the participants at the end of the first eight weeks and that, at 12 months after the maintenance phase of the programme, benefits are less dissipated than in the control group. We expect to identify the characteristics of the patients who benefit the most from home-based programmes. The trial was registered on 7 April 2022 at ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT05315505).

Objective To observe the clinical effect of traditional Chinese medicine nursing combined with comprehensive rehabilitation training and routine rehabilitation nursing on children with mental retarda- tion by moxibustion with aconite. Methods A total of 120 children with mental retardation diagnosed in the outpatient department or in the hospital from February to December, 2022 were selected and divided into the observation group and the control group, with 60 cases in each group. The control group was given comprehensive rehabilitation training and routine rehabilitation nursing, while the observation group was given tradition- al Chinese medicine nursing on Baihui point with aconite moxibustion on the basis of the control group. To observe the changes of development quotient(DQ) of each energy area of Gesell Intelligence Development Diagnostic Scale(GDS) and the scores of children's comprehensive function evaluation scale before and after treatment, as well as the clinical efficacy. Results After treatment, the DQ of each energy area of GDS was improved in both groups. The scores of adaptive behavior, large exercise, fine movements, language and personal- social behavior in the observation group were(67.92±11.69),(61.88±13.20),(63.50±13.20),(57.35± 11.91),(57.87±11.89) points respectively. All the scores were higher than those of the control group (46.70±18.15),(49.85±17.78),(48.25±16.69),(37.78±13.46),(42.35±14.20) points, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). The scores of all items in the children's comprehensive function evaluation table had been improved. The scores of cognitive function, speech function, sports ability, self-care action and social adaptation in the observation group were (10.98±3.61), (12.12±4.08),(18.81±5.42), (11.83±6.03),(8,87±3.14) points respectively. All the scores were higher than those of the control group (5.29±1.65),(6,58±3.20),(15.30±5.42), (5.11±4.09), (6.11±1.79) points, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). The total effective rate of GDS in the observation group [91.7%(55/60)] was higher than that in the control group [76.7%(46/60)],and the total effective rate of children's comprehensive function evaluation [93.3%(56/60)] was also better than that in the control group [80.0%(48/60)], with statistical significance (P<0.05). Conclusion Moxibustion of Baihui point with aconite root combined with comprehensive rehabilitation training and routine rehabilitation nursing is effective in treating mental retardation. AbstractPurposeMethodsResultsConclusion\nIMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONTo gain a rich understanding of the experiences and opinions of patients, healthcare professionals, and policymakers regarding the design of OGR with structure, process, environment, and outcome components.Qualitative research based on the constructive grounded theory approach is performed. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with patients who received OGR (
n = 13), two focus groups with healthcare professionals (n = 13), and one focus group with policymakers (n = 4). The Post-acute Care Rehabilitation quality framework was used as a theoretical background in all research steps. The data analysis of all perspectives resulted in seven themes: the outcome of OGR focuses on the patient’s independence and regaining control over their functioning at home. Essential process elements are a patient-oriented network, a well-coordinated dedicated team at home, and blended eHealth applications. Additionally, closer cooperation in integrated care and refinement regarding financial, time-management, and technological challenges is needed with implementation into a permanent structure. All steps should be influenced by the stimulating aspect of the physical and social rehabilitation environment. The three perspectives generally complement each other to regain patients’ quality of life and autonomy. This study demonstrates an overview of the building blocks that can be used in developing and designing an OGR trajectory. There’s a growing preference for providing geriatric rehabilitation in an outpatient setting at the patients’ home (called outpatient geriatric rehabilitation), but little is known about the content, efficiency, and quality assurance of outpatient geriatric rehabilitation. The key elements for the outpatient geriatric rehabilitation framework consist of a specialized geriatric rehabilitation dedicated multidisciplinary team, patient-centered blended eHealth applications, collaboration with integrated care, especially in community care nursing, and physical and social rehabilitation environments. The outpatient geriatric rehabilitation design framework, which emerged from the thematic analysis, offers valuable insights, and can support healthcare professionals and policymakers to establish an effective rehabilitation pathway. Background: To investigate the impact of perioperative rapid rehabilitation nursing on pelvic floor function of patients during transvaginal natural cavity endoscopic hysterectomy using perineal Four-dimensional (4D) ultrasound imaging technique. Materials and Methods: A total of 60 patients undergoing natural cavity endoscopic hysterectomy were evenly divided into control group (CG) and observation group (OG). The CG adopted perioperative nursing mode, and the OG adopted rapid rehabilitation nursing on the basis of the CG. The perineal 4D ultrasound imaging technology was used to evaluate the postoperative pelvic floor function parameters and the incidence of pelvic floor function abnormalities in the two groups. Results: During anal retraction, the OG exhibited a substantially higher urethral rotation angle and bladder neck mobility compared to the CG (P < 0.05). Under resting conditions, the ultrasonic parameters of the two groups did not differ significantly (P > 0.05). The OG's ultrasonography parameters were substantially lower than the CG's under the highest Valsalva condition (P < 0.05). The incidence of internal urethral orifice infundification did not differ between the two groups (P > 0.05). Compared to the OG, the CG had a considerably higher incidence of cystocele (P < 0.05). There was a clear difference in pelvic prolapse distance between the two groups (P < 0.05). Conclusion: 4D ultrasound is conducive to accurately identifying the morphological structure and function of the pelvic floor in patients with hysterectomy, and provides guidance for the formulation of the rehabilitation treatment plan for the pelvic floor muscle of the patients. Background & Objective: Several studies have investigated the effectiveness of preoperative or perioperative pulmonary rehabilitation in thoracic surgery patients, but the results are inconsistent and inconclusive. This study attempts to summarize the existing data on the effect of the preoperative and perioperative pulmonary rehabilitation nursing program for the management of patients undergoing thoracic surgery. Methods: Systematic search was done in PubMed Central, SCOPUS, EMBASE, MEDLINE, Google Scholar, and ScienceDirect for papers published until December 2022 and reporting data of postoperative complications and pulmonary health status in patients undergoing thoracic surgery and receiving preoperative or perioperative pulmonary rehabilitation nursing intervention or standard care. Meta-analysis was done by random-effects model and pooled standardised mean differences (SMD) or odds ratios (OR) along with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were reported. Results: Eighteen studies were included and analysed. Pooled SMD was 0.44 (95%CI: -0.21 to 1.08) for forced expiratory volume (FEV-1), -0.34 (95%CI: -0.94 to 0.26) for peak expiratory flow (PEF), 0.61 (95%CI: -0.60 to 1.81) for forced vital capacity (FVC), 0.42 (95%CI: -0.13 to 0.98) for diffusing capacity of carbon monoxide (DLCO). Pooled SMD for length of hospital stay was -0.64 (95%CI: -1.09 to -0.19). Pooled OR was 0.87 [95%CI: 0.32 to 2.37] for all-cause mortality, 0.35 [95%CI: 0.25 to 0.50] for postoperative pulmonary complications, 0.98 [95%CI: 0.45 to 2.12] for respiratory failure, 0.52 [95%CI: 0.38 to 0.78] for pneumonia and 0.50 [95%CI: 0.33 to 0.76] for atelectasis. Conclusion: Perioperative pulmonary rehabilitation nursing program is effective in reducing the postoperative lung complications and shortening the length of hospital stay in patients undergoing thoracic surgery.
