To examine the impact of in situ water maceration in macerating ponds on the degumming process and fiber quality of freshly kenaf and jute whole plants. Different kenaf/jute fresh samples (whole plant, bast fresh hides) were subjected to distinct maceration treatments: padded film + cover film, cover film only, and no film. Water temperature, degumming bacterial colony counts, and fiber quality were assessed. Results revealed that composting pools with padded film + cover film maintained the highest water temperature. For colony count, padded film + cover film treatment displayed the highest colony count for kenaf, and no film treatment had the highest for jute. Kenaf whole fresh rods treated with padded film + cover film and cover film alone demonstrated the highest fiber strengths at 489.01 N and 494.85 N, respectively. Jute whole fresh rods macerated in padded film + cover film achieved the greatest strength at 392.32 N. Comparisons of fresh fiber strength between whole fresh rod and bastshowed a maximum difference of 150.69 N (kenaf) and 152.88 N (jute). Comprehensive analysis concluded, that the most effective degumming method involved using the whole fresh rods of red hemp/jute in maceration ponds equipped with padded film + cover film.

In order to achieve efficient extraction of flax fiber, supercritical CO2 technology and biological enzyme impregnation technology were combined to degum the waste flax straw. The extraction process of supercritical CO2 treatment thme, treatment temperature and treatment pressure was optimized by response surface design. The relationship between supercritical CO2 assisted enzymatic degumming process parameters and degumming effect was studied by orthogonal test with fiber residual gum rate, mass loss rate, breaking strength, diameter and fineness as detection indexes, and compared with traditional chemical degumming, compound enzyme degumming and simple supercritical CO2 degumming process. The results show that the optimum process of supercritical CO2-assisted enzymatic degumming was as follows; the treatment pressure was 18 MPa, the treatment temperature was 64 °C, the CO2 flow rate was 20 g/min, and the amount of composite enzyme was 8% (xylanase; β-mannanase; pectinase mass ratio was 4.4:2.3:1.3). The flax fiber was degummed for 40 min. Compared with other processes, it was found that the residual gum rate of flax fiber treated by supercritical CO2 system was small (14.45 %), the damage to cellulose was small, and the fiber strength (47.56 cN) was retained to a large extent, which basically met the spinning requirements. Mulberry fiber is a new natural fiber. More and more attentions are paid to mulberry because of its good properties. The traditional chemical degumming method is liable to cause environmental pollution. This subject adopts the method of biochemical degumming technology to obtain mulberry fibers with certain spinnable properties. The degumming process of mulberry bark is studied on the basis of knowing the chemical composition and percentage content of the material composition of the raw material of mulberry bark, and the influence of different process conditions and parameters on the degumming effect is analyzed. Through single factor experiment and analysis of results, the optimized process parameters of biochemical combined degumming are as follows: the temperature and concentration of pickling acid pretreatment are 60°C and 2.5 g/L, respectively. The concentration, duration of action, and bath ratio of alkaline pectinase are 47 g/L, 8 h, and 1:20, respectively. The concentration and action time of sodium hydroxide in alkali boiling are: 10 g/L, 3 h. The concentration, duration of action, and bath ratio of xylanase are 10 g/L, 4 h, 1:20, respectively. The optimization process parameters obtained above lay the foundation for further orthogonal experiments to obtain the optimal degumming process.

In order to overcome the shortage of single degumming method, physical-chemical-biological degumming method was used to extract pineapple fiber from pineapple leaves. The structure of pineapple fiber was evaluated. The crystallinity and thermal stability of pineapple fiber were analyzed. The morphology of pineapple fiber was observed. The test results showed that the vibration absorbing peak of hydroxy was improved after degumming treatment while the vibration absorbing peak of gum functional group was weakened. After degumming, the carbon content of pineapple fiber was decreased and the oxygen content was increased. The crystallinity of the fiber after degumming was increased from 33.19% to 52.1%. Moreover, the thermal decomposition temperature of pineapple fiber was obviously increased. The scanning electron microscope showed that the gum on the surface of pineapple fiber were mostly removed and the surface was smooth. After physical-chemical-biological degumming treatment, the residual gum rate was 19.98%, the fiber diameter was 31.25 µm and the breaking strength was 21.35 cN. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, a new combined process that consists of UV-freezing-heating, enzyme-treatment and HTHP treatment was adopted for the degumming of hemp fiber, and the influence of different process conditions on residual gum rate and mechanical property was investigated. Hemp fibers before and after degumming were characterized by using SEM, FTIR and TG, the changes of overall performance and structure and chemical composition before and after degumming of hemp fiber were analyzed. It showed that the lignin content reduced to 0.71% from 14.13%, the residual gum rate reduced to 2.26% from 43.12%.The fiber has smooth surface, increased whiteness, reduced diameter but improved evenness as well as better mechanical property, compliance and thermal stability. .
