Foster care is a key element of Australia's child protection system. If a child's safety is threatened, they are removed from their families and placed under the guardianship of the chief executive in a care setting (guardianship order). In South Australia, the rate of children and young people entering the ‘In Care’ system has been increasing. As of 31 May 2024, the South Australian Department for Child Protection (DCP) reported that 4874 (0.4% increase from 2023) children and young people were on guardianship orders. In addition to the increase, there continues to be an overrepresentation of Aboriginal children and young people in care (37.4%) due to the ongoing impacts of intergenerational trauma because of colonisation and the Stolen Generation. The increase in children in care has placed immense pressure on the child protection system. Research indicates the best place for children to be is with their families. Centacare Foster Care, while supporting all care types, has a specialist reunification model (SRM). This model, the topic of this paper, incorporates a care team approach, informed by Centacare's stabilising trauma in everyday practice (STEP) framework. The SRM which starts from recruitment has been key in ensuring children and young people maintain positive connection with their family and return home safely, resulting in the successful reunifications. This model has seen a 67% success rate in reunifications, well above the 48% success rate nationally. Importantly, this model has seen a 65.5% success rate in reunifications of Aboriginal children between the years 2022 and 2024, which is well above the national reunification rate of 7.6%. Trauma is a central theme in child protection. Responding to and preventing traumatic harm to children is a key function of statutory child protection agencies and systems in Australia. Parents who encounter these systems are also known to be a highly traumatised cohort, often experiencing trauma throughout their own early development and into their adult lives. Despite these being broadly accepted principles amongst practitioners, there are limited pathways for parents to undertake trauma‐processing therapy as an integrated part of current child protection practice. Narrative exposure therapy (NET) is a manualised therapy model that has been used successfully to support individuals with life‐threatening trauma to process these experiences and take agency over their lives. The successful use of this model by non‐traditional therapists such as community health workers, in brief timeframes, has made it a valuable approach in settings with a high need for therapeutic support and low resources, such as refugee accommodation. Although these themes also have synergy with the child protection setting, there is relatively little research on the use of NET in this setting. This paper is written by practitioners and for practitioners and examines the real‐world application of NET with parents involved with a non‐statutory reunification service in the South Australian child protection system, grounded in a trauma‐informed model of practice. As such, the paper considers extending the possible value of NET into an area of limited previous use. The paper highlights observational findings suggesting that NET has the potential to be an effective tool for bringing focus to the trauma experiences of the parent, so that they may process these and develop greater capacity to parent safely as well as engage more productively with the demands of the child protection system. The forthcoming general election will be the most consequential electoral contest for the Republic of Ireland in a century. The polity is situated in truly novel territory with the potential for an historic first: the incoming of a Sinn Féin‐led, left‐wing government. Any such government would portend change in the North of Ireland, symbolising a critical juncture on the path towards the ending of partition. After the Fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and reunification, two completely different systems had to be brought together. The transformation was successful because the university libraries, which had been neglected during the GDR era, were brought up to the level of West German libraries through twelve years of joint funding from the federal and state governments; in addition, they were made more efficient with new buildings. The transition of the centralized system of public libraries in the GDR to the responsibility of the municipalities was facilitated by federal funding. The change was a success thanks to the cooperative partnership of all those involved in East and West. Finally, a look is taken at European developments. This paper addresses the transformation of the region around the twin-town Bitterfeld-Wolfen in Eastern Germany from a highly polluted industrial hub into a lakeland idyll and destination for recreation and nature-based tourism. From the perspective of local residents of age, the significance of this transformation was fundamentally shaped by German reunification, in particular by the experience of stigmatisation related to high levels of pollution in Bitterfeld-Wolfen in the context of general bias that devalued East German subjectivities in the course of German reunification. As I detail through both historical and ethnographic research, I show how mine restoration and the clean-up of contaminated sites have subsequently acquired meaning beyond ecological recovery and the improvement of public health. Tied up with the uncertainties and ambivalences of the transformation of East Germany and its integration into a West German entity, I demonstrate how the (im)possibility of restoring a destroyed landscape became inseparable from the postulated need of fundamental recovery of an East German region and its inhabitants from, so-perceived, socialist ruination. Consequently, I argue, the clean-up of contaminated sites and the remediation of a large open-cast mine in (former) East Germany produced not only an idyllic post-mining landscape, but a post-socialist one. Furthermore, as an archive of local history, the restored landscape became a way for elderly people to re-appropriate their past through its transformation into a remarkable present. As a result of the Department of Homeland Security’s zero-tolerance policy (ZTP), over 5,000 children were separated from their parents at the U.S. southern border from 2017-2021, with over 1,000 still lacking confirmed reunifications. Separations also occur daily due to immigration raids, chaotic processing, and changing immigration policies. This article addresses the most fundamental question faced by families enduring such separations; how to mend attachment bonds that have been suddenly severed, especially within a population likely already traumatized. The paper begins by updating readers about separation in the United States and offers a concise summary of the consequences of child-parent separation. The paper then introduces Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) as an intervention for affected families. This paper also uniquely applies CPP to older children and provides three case examples of its use in treating separated families. Achieving timely "permanency" for children after statutory child removal has become a key policy driver internationally. In New South Wales, child protection reforms include prioritising reunification; introducing time frames for resolution of legal proceedings; and outsourcing a substantial proportion of casework to the non‐government sector. In assessing the viability of reunification, courts place responsibility for behaviour change on parents and obscure the role of systems in supporting these changes. Professionals, as actors within a complex system, have an insider perspective on factors that influence reunification. A qualitative study was undertaken to elicit the perspectives of professionals working with parents involved in care proceedings. A total of 29 caseworkers and lawyers took part in focus groups. Complexity theory was used as an interpretive framework, and thematic analysis was completed. Themes about barriers to reunification exposed the unintended consequences of change in a complex adaptive system. Far from making reunification more achievable by streamlining the legal process, changes introduced impediments in the form of role, goal and process confusion and low levels of professional confidence in their capacity to help parents and achieve predictable legal outcomes. These results strengthen calls for a different approach to confront system‐induced barriers. Embedding interagency collaboration, challenging risk narratives about parents and offering them dedicated services are areas that demand urgent attention in order to ensure no child, whose safety and best interests could be met by reunification, remains in care. Prior relational maintenance research primarily (a) considers only one family member's perspective, (b) explores introspective communication, and (c) examines romantic relationships among highly resourced white samples in the United States. This study considered low-income, Latina/o/x/e immigrant families' maintenance before, during, and after migration-related separation, using standpoint theory, social communication theory, and the long-distance relational maintenance model. We conducted semi-structured interviews with Latina/o/x/e parents and children who lived in separate countries (N  =   20 dyads). Findings cast light on temporal (e.g. fathers often provided little to no notice to children of the upcoming separation, complicating the families' ability to prospectively co-construct relational continuity) and cultural factors (e.g. endorsing traditional gender norms, relying on mothers to explain the separation to children after it had begun) in families' maintenance processes. This study offers new insight into how families communicatively construct "ongoingness" in their bonds despite emotional, technological, and legal challenges posed by migration-related separation. Family group conferences (FGCs) in child welfare share decision-making with family members by bringing the immediate and wider family together to make a plan to meet a child's needs. This paper reports survey findings on FGC provision in the UK in 2022 and explores whether in England the presence of an FGC service and the rate of FGC provision is associated with the rate of children in care, entering care, in kinship foster care and leaving care. Seventy-nine per cent (n  = 167) of local authorities in the UK provided FGCs to families, and 14 per cent (n  = 29) did not. Services that were more established offered a more diverse range of FGCs. The introduction of FGCs in English local authorities was associated with a higher rate of children in care, but also higher rates of kinship foster care, a key goal of FGCs where it is not possible for children to stay with their parents. Higher rates of FGCs were associated with more children leaving care, possibly due to reunification with birth families. To understand in more detail, the circumstances of children in and leaving care in local authorities with FGCs, individual data linkage studies are needed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper summarises some of the main changes in Northern Irish society since the signing of the Good Friday Agreement in 1998, both at the electoral level and in religious and national identities, as well as in preferences over constitutional future. The data show an increase in Catholic and more pro-Irish identities but also the rise of a social sector that is not aligned with the two main historical blocs. The literature has linked Irish identity and the Catholic religion to the cause of Irish reunification, so this may have been reflected in an increase in support for it. However, following trends in the analysis of independence in other territories, this article aims to analyse whether socio-economic or public policy-related factors also play a role today. To corroborate this hypothesis, logistic regression models are used to show the main explanatory variables in favour of this territorial option. The results show the pre-eminence of national and political identities, but instrumental factors also appear, such as the position on the Northern Ireland Protocol, especially in the case of the “non-aligned” sectors.

The studies on the reintegration of territories are becoming more relevant due to the changing geopolitical agenda and the tasks facing Russia. The article overviews works by Russian and foreign authors, dedicated to integration and reintegration. They are divided into two groups, varying on the level of analysis, systemic and individual. The overview lays a basis for a two-level model to study reintegration in the three spheres that are economic, political and social and cultural. Using the model, the article analyzes two cases in contemporary history, namely the reintegration of East Germany into the FRG and that of Hong Kong into the PRC. Comparing them, the study found some differences which prove the importance of opting for the strategy in all spheres of social system. In addition, the article assumes that at least one catalyzing element is needed to urge reintegration. In both cases it was economics that gave impetus to reintegration, while culture produced consolidation. The study provides conclusions considering the prospects of further reintegration studies.

Background and Objectives Although the vulnerabilities stemming from the intersection of aging and migration are widely recognized, the migration contexts and the factors influencing the mental health of older unforced migrants have received scant attention. This review explores the drivers of unforced migrations in later life and the individual, relational, and structural factors influencing their mental health and well-being. Research Design and Methods Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines, a systematic search of 7 databases for English peer-reviewed journal articles was conducted. A total of 21 studies were identified and analyzed inductively. Results The review classified motivations for migration as push factors and pull factors: push factors such as escaping structural inequities in the homeland and pull factors included seeking better lifestyle opportunities and reuniting with family. The positive determinants of mental health included cordial family relationships, paid employment, the presence of a partner, and strong support networks. Advanced age, absence of a partner, lifestyle changes, lack of intergenerational support, poor language proficiency, unfavorable policies, lack of access to resources, and systemic biases negatively affected the mental health of older unforced migrants. Discussion and Implications The review highlights the need to recognize the diversity among older migrants to develop policies and programs that address their specific circumstances. Recognizing their strengths, rather than focusing solely on their vulnerabilities will help create a more positive and supportive environment, enabling them to thrive in their new communities. ABSTRACT Restoring children from out‐of‐home care (OOHC) to their families is the preferred outcome for all children removed by child protection services, yet little is known about how restoration processes are experienced by families and services supporting them. This paper provides important insights about Aboriginal child restoration from 40 practitioners and stakeholders at a community forum led by Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations in regional New South Wales (NSW), Australia. This is one component of larger Aboriginal‐led research, which investigates child protection experiences and pathways to successful restoration in NSW and the data source for this paper. The community forum explored the issues for families navigating family preservation, OOHC and restoration within child protection and legal systems. Findings include the need for a continuum of support for families throughout their engagement with child protection systems and crucially following the removal of their children. Barriers to effective restoration practice included a lack of access to meaningful and ongoing preservation services, insufficient cultural care planning and family finding efforts that are often too late, the pressure on services to support families without adequate capabilities or enough resourcing, the lack of transparency and the complexities in navigating the restoration process, and the lack of culturally informed support for children and their families while children are in care. Implications for policy and practice are discussed. This paper contributes to understanding practice, processes and barriers for restoration, particularly focused on the perspectives of Aboriginal families and communities, with potential insights for practice within Australia and internationally. This longitudinal study examined the psychosocial health trajectories of children following reunification from residential care and the associated contextual factors. Data were drawn from a randomised controlled trial evaluating the effects of a parenting programme on the successful reunification and reintegration of 1–13-year-old children with their families, in nine districts in Uganda. Families were randomised to receive either a basic reintegration package consisting of a reunification grant and case management (standard intervention) or an enhanced package consisting of the basic package plus 13 bi-weekly training sessions of a parenting programme (enhanced intervention). Data were collected from caregivers at home and the residential care facilities, as well as the children (n = 55 dyadic pairs) through prospective interviews at baseline (before reunification), and at 6- and 12-months post-reunification. Predictive growth curve analyses assessed longitudinal changes in child psychosocial problems (externalizing, internalizing, total behavioural problems) and associated contextual factors. In age, sex, and study arm stratified analyses, we found declining linear trajectories in children's psychosocial problem scores at 6 and 12 months post-reunification. Taking covariates into account, persistent externalizing, internalizing, and total behavioural problems at endline were associated with children's depressive symptoms, caregiver characteristics and quality of caregiving. Our findings suggest that children who are reunified from residential to family-based care have fewer psychosocial problems post-reunification compared to their time in residential care. These findings did not differ by age and sex of the child or type of reintegration package received. Although findings from our small single study have limited generalizability and should be interpreted with caution for policy and programming, they underscore the potential benefits of reunification programmes for children's psychosocial well-being. Highlights: This study examined the psychosocial health trajectories of children reunified from residential to family-based care and associated factors. Reunified children had fewer psychosocial problems at 6 and 12 months after reunification compared with their baseline when in residential care. Findings did not differ with child age, sex or type of reintegration package received. Persistent psychosocial problems were associated with caregiver unemployment, child depressive symptoms, poorer caregiver health, and low-quality caregiving. This research was motivated by the large number of inmates at the Bina Laras Harapan Sentosa 2 Social Home, the majority of whom came from the streets. With the different educational backgrounds of the accompanying officers, the process of extracting data and information from the inmates is a challenge in itself. What is the communication strategy used by social assistants in the assessment process with inmates? If the communication strategy is carried out correctly, the process of extracting information from the inmates will run according to expectations and make the service and rehabilitation process run according to the SOP. The theory used in this research uses Communication Accommodation Theory and Social Learning Theory. This is based on the observation that officers and inmates appear to imitate each other's behavior and the behavior adopted is based on the environment and the behavior of other people around them. This study used qualitative research methods. This research concludes that the communication strategy carried out by the assistants was successful in accordance with expectations. This can be seen from the data and information obtained which is adequate and the assisted residents can receive services and rehabilitation according to the criteria, and quite a lot have been successfully reunified with their families. Caregiver – child dyads exist within systems that may reinforce and/or establish structures to support holistic needs, awareness of roles, and capacity-building efforts. Systems can be challenged in fortifying such structures, however, following substantiated abuse and/or neglect. In the current study, the author surveyed 27 family court judges and judicial hearing officers collectively presiding over ~2800 birth-5 cases (~39% response) in one Mid-Atlantic state in the United States. Despite court-level stakeholders’ pivotal role in reunification, it is unclear how they perceive current processes, existing barriers, and proposed initiatives targeting emotional development post-abuse and/or neglect. The marching of North and South Korea under one flag at the opening ceremony of the 2018 Winter Olympics opening ceremony was celebrated as a step towards greater harmony in the region. North Korea's attendance and widespread goodwill during the "Peace Games" even led to talk of a joint Korea bid for the 2032 Summer Olympics. While the 2018 Games were successful in bringing the nations together, the opportunities for long-lasting peace – and a memorable Games legacy – were not achieved. Utilising thematic analysis across 551 articles from four online news publications from North Korea, South Korea, China and Japan, this study examines regional narratives of North Korea's participation in PyeongChang 2018. The results highlight portrayals in the media towards North Korea and the broader key themes of war, conflict, peace and reconciliation. Overall, it is evident that the hope generated by the nation's participation in 2018 was a false dawn for long-term aspirations of unification, and reflective of the freeze and thaw approach to engagement by North Korea with its neighbour. The successfully reunification of families with care experienced children (children who are looked after away from home) involves the carer’s support of the family in the context of relationship-based practice and constructing a shared assessment and narrative around the child. Practice is informed by an understanding of the impact of trauma on children and adults. It is based on hearing the informed views of children and young people when successfully planning family reunification. This work requires collaborative work with the family’s social worker.

Abstract Following PRISMA guidelines, this systematic review assessed the impact of the Adoption and Safe Families Act of 1997 (ASFA) on the foster care population; adoption, reunification, and TPR rates; and foster care durations. The search was carried out from July 13, 2023 to July 15, 2023 and yielded twenty studies published between 1998 and 2023. Due to a lack of pre-ASFA data, most studies’ results were limited. Comparison was further complicated by local differences in ASFA implementation. While the foster care population declined and the adoption rates rose, whether these changes could be attributed to ASFA is less clear. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

It is the first comprehensive analysis of the 1989 DEFA film … und freitags in die “Grüne Hölle” by Ernst Cantzler and it reads the documentary in close relation to the historic developments during the late years of the GDR. Viewing the football stadium as a symbolic stand-in for East Germany, this article understands Cantzler’s work as a well-crafted montage that–metaphorically–lays out two possible scenarios for the end of German division: a peaceful revolution and a violent uprising. The European integration course of further development of Ukraine determines the relevance of research on the implementation of EU legislation. This fully concerns the improvement of legislation in accounting and reporting. The article aims to define and substantiate the directions of further development of accounting and reporting in Ukraine in the context of the prospect of joining the EU and NATO. It was established that the requirements of the European directive on financial reporting apply only to joint-stock companies and limited liability companies. Taking this into account, an important direction for the further improvement of domestic enterprises' financial reporting is its compliance with EU legislation and a balanced differentiation of requirements for reporting enterprises of various forms of business. In particular, it is appropriate to reduce the amount of financial reporting for enterprises whose members have unlimited liability. Reunification of financial reporting requires corresponding changes in the statistics system. In the future, using financial statements for statistical generalizations will be inappropriate. It is also necessary to consider the changes made to the EU legislation in connection with adopting the directive on reporting on sustainable development. As a result, it is necessary to make appropriate amendments and additions to the Law of Ukraine “On Accounting and Financial Reporting in Ukraine” regarding the content and presentation of the management report and to carry out and publish an official translation of the European standards for reporting on sustainable development after they enter into force in the EU. The article reviews the principles of adaptation of International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS), considering the specifics of the activities of NATO entities. Considering the perspective of financing the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine and the course for joining NATO, it was proposed to gradually transition the public sector directly to International Standards (IPSAS). The provided proposals and recommendations contribute to the optimization of Ukraine's accounting and reporting system, in line with the country's integration into European economic and political structures.

Using administrative data from one county's child welfare system, this mixed methods study explored whether caseworker communication with other professionals working with a family was linked to timely reunification. Logistic regressions (n = 250) indicated more frequent communication was associated with increased odds of timely reunification. The qualitative findings (n = 21) explain this relationship, suggesting that interprofessional communication helps professionals address barriers to reunification, make timely decisions, and stay on the same page. Together, the findings from both phases highlight the importance of interprofessional communication in child welfare and provide insight into what professionals should discuss when they communicate. In 2019, the family treatment court (FTC) best practice standards (the Standards) were published to clarify attributes of FTC programs associated with superior child, parent, and family outcomes. The Standards cover the breadth of FTC operations including program structure and leadership, substance use treatment and complementary services, and behavioral responses to participants. This study aimed to develop an instrument (the Model Standards Implementation Scale; "MSIS") that stakeholders can use to assess implementation of the Standards by individual FTCs. The MSIS balances usability with scientific validity. Interrater reliability (IRR), internal consistency, and several types of validity were assessed. Results indicated moderate to strong IRR, high internal consistency, mixed known groups validity depending on Standard, and high convergent and divergent validity. Initial findings suggest good validity and usability of the MSIS for evaluating FTC Standards' implementation. Notably, the process of using the tool functioned to educate FTC team members on the Standards. Although implementation of the MSIS is a resource‐intensive process, the opportunity to receive constructive feedback proved to be an effective incentive for initial and subsequent participation in the evaluation among FTCs. Future research is needed to examine predictive validity, including association between Standards' implementation and family outcomes in FTCs. Children and adolescents who are having difficulty coping with stress often present with complaints of physical discomfort. Effective treatment approaches exist for many of these issues. Among high‐conflict parents, however, children's medical issues can become another canvas for conflict, with parents focused more on blaming one another for the child's distress than on options for assisting the child. Professionals can be drawn into the conflict to such a degree that they overlook essential steps for addressing and managing these issues. The authors present a research‐informed model for managing medical and psychophysiological issues amid parental conflict. The successfully reunification of families with care experienced children (children who are looked after away from home) involves the carer's support of the family in the context of relationship-based practice and constructing a shared assessment and narrative around the child. Practice is informed by an understanding of the impact of trauma on children and adults. It is based on hearing the informed views of children and young people when successfully planning family reunification. This work requires collaborative work with the family's social worker. The article describes the liquidation process of the renovationist schism in the Ural which took place during the Great Patriotic War. It is also tackles the reunion of the former renovationist hierarchs with the Russian Orthodox Church. The work presents vivid episodes of relations between bishop of Molotov and Solikamsk Alexander (Tolstopyatov) and well known renovationist representatives — hieromonk Sergius (Larin) and former renovationist “bishop” Seraphim (Korovin). The study is based on the correspondence between bishop Alexander (Tolstopyatov) and Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Sergius (Stragorodsky) in 1943–1944, preserved in the State Archive of Russian Federation (GARF) and Perm diocesan archive. Using bishop Alexander’s personality as an example, the author analyzes the reaction of a part of the Russian Orthodox Church episcopate to the reunification of renovationist leaders with the Church. Such hierarchs-confessors (unlike the leadership of the Moscow Patriarchate and Patriarch Sergius himself) who passed through the Stalin’s camps were very cautious in accepting this reunification, considering repentance of renovationists as hypocrisy and discrediting factor for the Moscow Patriarchate itself.

The European integration course of further development of Ukraine determines the relevance of research on the implementation of EU legislation. This fully concerns the improvement of legislation in accounting and reporting. The article aims to define and substantiate the directions of further development of accounting and reporting in Ukraine in the context of the prospect of joining the EU and NATO. It was established that the requirements of the European directive on financial reporting apply only to joint-stock companies and limited liability companies. Taking this into account, an important direction for the further improvement of domestic enterprises' financial reporting is its compliance with EU legislation and a balanced differentiation of requirements for reporting enterprises of various forms of business. In particular, it is appropriate to reduce the amount of financial reporting for enterprises whose members have unlimited liability. Reunification of financial reporting requires corresponding changes in the statistics system. In the future, using financial statements for statistical generalizations will be inappropriate. It is also necessary to consider the changes made to the EU legislation in connection with adopting the directive on reporting on sustainable development. As a result, it is necessary to make appropriate amendments and additions to the Law of Ukraine "On Accounting and Financial Reporting in Ukraine" regarding the content and presentation of the management report and to carry out and publish an official translation of the European standards for reporting on sustainable development after they enter into force in the EU. The article reviews the principles of adaptation of International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS), considering the specifics of the activities of NATO entities. Considering the perspective of financing the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine and the course for joining NATO, it was proposed to gradually transition the public sector directly to International Standards (IPSAS). The provided proposals and recommendations contribute to the optimization of Ukraine's accounting and reporting system, in line with the country's integration into European economic and political structures. The German novelist and Nobel laureate Günter Grass investigated the connection between nationhood, language, and politics throughout his literary career. In particular, he advocated a form of "literary nationhood" called Kulturnation (cultural nation) that conflates a nation's letters with its national identity. Grass believed that this identity served as a form of resistance to the nation-state and could force the German people to acknowledge the Holocaust. In going about this alternative nationality, Grass utilized what he called the "worm's-eye view" to align a literary imagination from the perspective of history's "victims" rather than its "makers." The result of this literary methodology are two novels: The Meeting at Telgte (Das Treffen in Telgte) and Too Far Afield (Ein weites Feld). This article traces the development of the Kulturnation in these works and discusses its implications for politics, with special attention given to the tension between language and politics. Despite the passage of the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) more than four decades ago, little is known about how or how well it is being implemented into practice by the state courts or how implementation may be related to improved outcomes for Indian children and families. This study explores how ICWA implementation in five state court sites is related to case outcomes. One hundred and fifty‐one ICWA cases were reviewed for factors including active efforts findings, tribal presence at hearings, use of qualified expert witness (QEW) testimony, notice, and confirmation of ICWA status. Results are mixed. Specific ICWA implementation measures and aggregate measures were mostly not related to outcomes, but early implementation, such as having the tribe present at the first hearing, did appear related to timely permanency. A handful of scholars have offered explanations for why states with otherwise restrictive immigration laws should relax their demands for people applying to immigrate for family reasons. However, much less has been said about the family unification rights of refugees. This paper extends the existing discussion on family-based immigration to refugees, arguing that: (1) states have stronger duties to reunite refugee families; (2) some refugees should be entitled to reunite with their “extended” family; (3) refugee family reunion should not be subject to financial conditions; and (4) the right to family reunion is especially strong for refugee children.
