1. A Circularly Polarized Parallel Plate Waveguide Lens-Like Multiple-Beam Linear Array Antenna for Satcom Applications

Abstract

This work presents a full metal circularly-polarized lens-like antenna for Satcom applications at Ka-band. The antenna is composed of two continuous parallel plate waveguide (PPW) quasi-optical beamformers (QOBF), feeding an array of septum polarizers to generate circular polarization. The QOBFs operate over a wide band and provide a multi-beam coverage over a large field of view in the azimuthal plane, while maintaining a relatively simple mechanical design. The array of septum polarizers is based on a stepped profile to generate circular polarization with a good polarization purity in the uplink of Ka-band (27 - 31 GHz). The antenna is fully realized in aluminium. The antenna system provides 14 beams with alternating right/left handed circular polarization (RHCP/LHCP) with an axial ratio (AR) below 3 Db over an angular range of ±19° in the uplink of Ka-Band. The maximum gain in the azimuthal plane at 30 GHz is about 21 dB over the whole angular range, with a scan loss lower than 1.5 dB. The antenna efficiency is better than 78% for all beams in the operative band.

2. Grating ridged waveguide V‐shaped slot array antenna for SATCOM applications.

Abstract

This Letter presents a grating ridged waveguide V‐shaped slot array antenna for satellite communication (SATCOM) receiving antenna applications. A special grating ridged waveguide, V‐shaped slots and a matching section are applied in the proposed antenna design, so that the antenna provides an extra filtering response with a high radiation polarisation purity in a compact structure. For demonstration, a referential normal ridged waveguide V‐shaped slot array antenna is designed and compared. The simulation results show that the proposed antenna not only operates well in the working frequencies (12.25–12.75 GHz) but also provides the antenna gains of lower than −17.8dB compared with those of the referential antenna in the interference frequencies (14.0–14.5 GHz). Abstract

International audience; This paper proposes a circularly-polarized continuous transverse stub(CTS) array antenna for space applications. The radiating structure consists of open-ended parallel plate waveguides(PPW), supporting the propagation of the transverse electromagnetic(TEM) and first transverse electric(TE1) modes. Such modes are orthogonally-polarized in the PPW cross-section and, if properly excited, can generate circular polarization(CP). The antenna radiating section consists of 32 long slots, parallel-fed by a quasi-optical system through a PPW-based corporate feed network(CFN) and an electric field rotator. The proposed antenna is matched in the 27.5-31GHz band while scanning up to +-20° in elevation, with an axial ratio(AR) below 3dB. © 2021 IEICE.

Abstract

International audience; In this paper, three state-of-the-art parallel-fed continuous transverse stub (CTS) arrays are presented. They operate at various frequency bands ranging from 20 GHz up to 86 GHz. The multiple capabilities of this architecture, such as side-lobe level reduction, active beam switching, and wideband operation with an ultra-low-profile, are here reviewed. Moreover, the suitability of the antenna concept for multiple fabrication technologies is demonstrated. The performance and key design solutions of three prototypes manufactured using milling techniques, low-temperature co-fired ceramic and printed circuit board technology are showcased. © 2021 IEICE.
