Abstract Introduction: Brazilian scientific production has shown substantial growth and achieved international visibility. However, in general, the participation of women in scientific activities remains limited. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the indicators of scientific productivity of women fellows of the Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) in the field of Medicine. Method: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 541 (211 women, 39%) researchers registered as recipients of CNPq research productivity (PQ) scholarships in Medicine according to a list provided in December 2022. Results: There was a predominance of male researchers (n=330; 61%). In both the male and female groups, most researchers were at level 2, with 62.5% women and 47.2% men (p=0.018). All 211 female PQ scholars were distributed among 37 different institutions and published 34,969 papers in scientific journals, averaging 165.7 articles per researcher. In the last five years of the study period (from 2018 to 2022), 9,679 papers were published. Over their careers, the 211 researchers supervised 5,440 undergraduate research students, 4,144 master’s degree students, and 2,923 PhD candidates. Resumo Objectives: to describe the scientific production of qualitative studies in childhood asthma. Methods: bibliometric analysis. Articles were from Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane, and PubMed (1996-2018), using the search terms asthma, children, qualitative research, qualitative study, qualitative analysis, ethnographic, phenomenology and narrative. Results: 258 articles were retrieved from 143 journals, representing 1.2% of scientific articles on childhood asthma. The growth rate was high. Authorship included 969 authors (85.3% occasional) from 279 institutions. 94.2% were co-authored and 3.5% were international collaborations. The greatest number of articles were from the United States (45.3%), United Kingdom (17.4%) and Canada (7.4%). The categories with the highest number of articles were Nursing & Public, Environmental & Occupational Health (18.2%), Respiratory System (10.1%) and Allergy (7.7%). 99.7% of the articles were in English. Conclusion: these results show a lack of consolidation of the literature based on qualitative studies on childhood asthma with a high percentage of occasional authors and limited international collaboration, indicating a need to strengthen this approach.

Objective: to measure scientific production on the riverside population's health in Brazilian territory. Method: a bibliometric study, with data collected in March and April 2023, using different databases, via the Virtual Health Library, PubMed, Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel Journal Portal and the online scientific library. Search strategies were developed with descriptors and keywords. Descriptive statistical analysis was performed, and Bradford's, Lotka's and Zipf's bibliometric laws were applied. Results: the sample consisted of 35 documents, predominantly quantitative original articles, published in English and Portuguese, in from 2019 to 2022. Due to their publication numbers, five authors and four Brazilian institutions were highlighted. Four most influential journals, four most representative keywords and the main terms used in writing the objectives of selected studies were identified. Introduction: SciVal is a bibliometric tool used to assess the scientific output of institutions, such as the Institute of Research on Medical Microbiology and Parasitology (IMPaM), doubly dependent on Buenos Aires University (UBA) and the National Council of Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET). IMPaM studies medical microbiology and parasitology and has many research projects. Assessing it through SciVal will make it possible to identify areas of strengths and weaknesses to improve the scientific output at that institution. Goal: assess the scientific output of IMPaM with SciVal, describing the methodology, results, conclusions, and recommendations to improve research at that institution. Methods: the scientific production was analyzed, examining the research areas, the influence of that institution in the field of study, financing, and available resources. A database of researchers was used to carry out the analysis, and the scientific output was compared with similar institutions. Results: the study found that more than one-half of the articles of that Institution are open access, and fostering their publication in open access journals without any embargo period is suggested. Besides, it was stressed that the most representative thematic areas are related to the social object of that Institution and that international collaboration is essential to scientific research. Finally, a decrease in citations by publication was noticed, keeping the impact of weighted citations by field, which suggests that the articles keep their relevance in their area. Conclusions: IMPaM researches and publishes in Medicine, Immunology and Microbiology, Biochemistry, Genetics and Molecular Biology. Even though the number of open-access articles is large, it is below average in the Impact of Weighted Citations by Field, and it is necessary to strengthen the international collaboration links and widen thematic diversity to keep their relevance in scientific research. Scientists have always looked for ways to evaluate research results to recognize and reward their efforts, and to support decisions regarding programs and public policies. The metrics of scientific impact have become, in recent decades, the driving force behind the academic environment. The work of researchers, scientific journals, databases and publishers, research institutions, and funding agencies is driven by the impact of the research they produce, publish, index, promote and finance. Bibliometric indicators are widely used for the evaluation of scientific output, despite the lack of a clear relationship between citations and quality, impact, or scientific merit. Furthermore, the relationship is even less evident regarding innovation, which is an inherent characteristic of scientific research. Publishing scientific articles allows for disseminating the results of a study and concludes the research process; such publication allows the academic to develop more research skills. Objective: To analyze the factors associated with the production of scientific articles in university professors. Material and Methods: Analytical cross-sectional study that collected the amount of articles published in the Scopus and SciELO databases by ordinary professors of the Faculty of Dentistry of the National University of San Marcos (Lima, Peru). Associated factors included: sex, teaching category, dedication time, academic degree, positions at other universities, professional experience and teaching courses related to scientific research. Results: 20.8% of academics presented at least one article published. Male sex (OR = 1.12, 95% CI: 1.04-2.49), working at one university only (OR = 1.39, 95% CI: 1.12-2.71), teaching courses related to research methodology (OR = 1.35, 95% CI: 1.05-4.27) and having more than 10 years’ experience in university teaching (OR = 2.95, 95% CI: 2.1-8.97) were factors associated with greater scientific production. Conclusions: One fifth of ordinary professors presented scientific production in the databases Scopus and SciELO, with the main factors associated with a greater production of scientific articles being sex, course teaching, number of years in teaching and number of work-institutions.

Objective. To analyze levels of production, reach, and thematic development of the Investigación y Educación en Enfermería journal from a scientometric analysis. Methods. The study collected 1,066 articles corresponding to the period between 1983 and 2020. The scientometric analysis was carried out from three components of descriptive analysis: performance of the publication, geographic reach, and thematic development. The first two used data consolidated from articles published in the Open Journal System at Universidad de Antioquia. The third component captured the bibliographic references from the Web of Science and Scopus databases and from the Google Scholar and Lens academic search engines. Results. In terms of the production analysis, the Journal shows stable behavior sustained over time with international reach regarding authorship. In the thematic setting, the Journal concentrates on two large clusters: 1) research on human factors from different perspectives and 2) cross-sectional studies differentiated mainly by sex. With respect to emerging clusters, on one side, a thematic pillar is seen with studies in young adult population and another in matters related to the educational process and nursing students. Conclusion. The Journal has maintained outstanding behavior in terms of production over time, aligned with very good visibility for potential authors internationally; something not easily accomplished for most journals in Colombia. Likewise, its production has had a thematic domain to a greater extent related to human factors associated with the nursing practice.

ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE To investigate gender inequity in the scientific production of the University of Sao Paulo. METHODS Members of the University of Sao Paulo faculty are the study population. The Web of Science repository was the source of the publication metrics. We selected the measures: total publications and citations, average of citations per year and item, H-index, and history of citations between 1950 and 2019. We used the name of the faculty member as a proxy to the gender identity. We use descriptive statistics to characterize the metrics. We evaluated the scissors effect by selecting faculty members with a high H-index. The historical series of citations was projected until 2100. We carry out analyses for the general population and working time subgroups: less than 10 years, 10 to 20 years, and 20 years or more. RESULTS Of the 8,325 faculty members, we included 3,067 (36.8%). Among those included, 1,893 (61.7%) were male and 1,174 (38.28%) female. The male gender presented higher values in the publication metrics (average of articles: M = 67.0 versus F = 49.7; average of citations/year: M = 53.9 versus F = 35.9), and H-index (M = 14.5 versus F = 12.4). Among the 100 individuals with the highest H-index (≥ 37), 83% are male. The male curve grows faster in the historical series of citations, opening a difference between the groups whose separation is confirmed by the projection. DISCUSSION Scientific production at the Universidade de São Paulo is subject to a gender bias. Two-thirds of the faculty are male, and hiring over the past few decades perpetuates this pattern. The large majority of high impact faculty members are male. CONCLUSION Our analysis suggests that the Universidade de São Paulo will not overcome gender inequality in scientific production without substantive affirmative action. Development does not happen by chance but through choices that are affirmative, decisive, and long-term oriented.

BACKGROUND: Researching the recognition of Physical Education for the school community is a recurrent action within the scientific/academic subfield oƒ the area, especially in recent decades. This process is justified, mainly, with regard to the legitimacy of the discipline as a curricular component, its contents and the perceptions of the agents who are part of it. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the scientific production published in periodicals of Physical Education, in the period 1997-2018, which address the theme of School Physical Education (SPE) in Brazil, from the perspective of the teacher of basic education. METHODS: It is a research characterized as a state oƒ knowledge, which portrays the scientific production on the present theme of 14 journals in the field of Physical Education. For the searches of articles, the descriptor School Physical Education was used. After surveying the productions, 35 articles were identified, which were analyzed following the thematic analysis method. RESULTS: From the analysis of the articles, three categories of analysis emerged: a) profile of the main authors who approach SPE from the perspective of the school teacher; b) methodological procedures presented in the production on SPE; and, c) main themes that portray SPE from the perspective of the school teacher. CONCLUSION: It is noted that the surveys found portray more issues related to barriers in the educational process than facilitators. In Brazil, the National Health Plan (NHP) was the central instrument for public health planning from 2016 to 2019. In this paper, we show that there is a convergence between the Plan and the publication of scientific articles written by institutional researchers in the context of Neglected Tropical Diseases. The methodology used consisted of the following stages: identification of the universe of researchers, data collection, thematic characterization of Neglected Tropical Diseases in the Plan, organization of information, and production of indicators. In total, there were 2,719 researchers and 18,023 journal articles from 2015 to 2018. Of these, 2,541 articles, or 14.09%, were related to Neglected Tropical Diseases. Regarding the convergences, there was strong alignment with leishmaniasis, Chagas disease, dengue, leprosy, schistosomiasis, and Chikungunya fever. However, the coverage of topics by scientific publications was broader than that of the political instrument due to the inclusion of other themes: snake bites, helminthiasis and lymphatic filariasis.

Objective: To describe the Peruvian scientific output on COVID-19 up to January 31, 2021. Materials and methods: We carried out a bibliometric study using two databases (MEDLINE and SciELO). We included original or short original articles with at least one author with Peruvian institutional affiliation. Scientific output was described according to: institution, approval by a Research Ethics Committee, registration in the platforms established by regulations, scientific journals in which they were published, research funding, and Peruvian collaboration networks. Results: A total of 106 articles were analyzed, only three (2.8%) were clinical trials. Of the top 10 institutions with the highest scientific output, only two did not belong to the education sector. A total of 53 (50.0%) articles had no information regarding ethical aspects or it was not explicitly stated whether or not it was approved by a Research Ethics Committee. Only 8 (7.7%) of 104 articles were registered in PRISA; 12 (11.3%) articles were published in Peruvian journals. Regarding funding, 71 (67.0%) investigations did not specify the source or they were self-financed. We found international collaboration in 70 publications (66.0%). Conclusions: The most productive Peruvian institutions are found in Lima. Half of the articles did not state ethical aspects in any part of the document. Almost all of the studies were not registered on the platforms established by regulations. In more than half of the articles the source of funding is not stated or they were self-financed. Introduction Peru is a developing country with increasing scientific production. However, it is necessary to understand the trends, impact, and collaborative networks of research to plan for policy improvements. Objective We analyzed the production, impact, and collaboration networks in the Peruvian scientific production between 2000 and 2019. Methods We did an observational analytical study. We searched Scopus for all the publications with at least one author with a Peruvian affiliation declared in the author byline. A descriptive analysis of the different characteristics, trends, and scientific collaboration was carried out. Collaboration networks were plotted using VOSviewer. Results Between 2000 and 2019, Peru had a total of 24 482 publications in scientific journals, with an average annual growth of 13.6%. Of the total, 70% of all the articles were cataloged as Clinical Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. Only half of the articles had a Peruvian affiliation. The countries with the largest share of collaboration were the United States and Brazil, and the articles with international collaboration had the highest number of citations per publication. Conclusions Scientific production in Peru has increased in recent years, with a significant percentage of publications based on international collaboration and led by authors with non-Peruvian affiliations. It is necessary to strengthen collaboration ties between Peruvian and foreign institutions. Furthermore, it is essential to propitiate further research that will help solve the country's problems.

Background: student scientific journals show the research work developed by medical science students, hence the need to analyze the scientific production on Natural and Traditional Medicine in them and thus promote research related to this topic.Objective: to characterize the scientific production on Natural and Traditional Medicine in Cuban student scientific journals between January 2014 and July 2020.Methods: a bibliometric study of the scientific production declared in the objective was carried out, with 17 articles found. The following variables were assessed: journal, number of authors, province and country of the first author, language, type of article, bibliographic references, updating degree of bibliographic references according to Price's index, citations and number of corrected citations. Descriptive statistics was used.Results: the highest scientific production was found in the Revista 16 de Abril (29,41 %). Articles with 3 or 4 authors predominated (29,41 %), 23,53 % of the articles came from the province of Granma, only one had a foreign authorship and one was published in English. The mean number of references was 17,88. Price's index in the articles ranged between 0,36 and 1. Only two articles were cited (11,76 %).Conclusions: the scientific production on Natural and Traditional Medicine in student scientific journals in the period studied was scarce, as was the number of citations received.

Background: The Central Cerebrospinal Fluid Laboratory is almost 17 years old, as an entity of science and technological innovation that is distinguished by its prolific scientific production. Objective: to characterize the scientific production of researchers and assistant students in the Central Laboratory of Cerebrospinal Fluid. Methods: bibliometric, descriptive study of the scientific publications of the Cerebrospinal Fluid Central Laboratory, attached to the Miguel Enríquez Faculty of Medical Sciences, Havana University of Medical Sciences. The scientific production from April 2004 to February 2020 was analyzed, according to the Google Scholar, Scopus and PubMed databases. The variables reported by Publish or perish version 7 advanced were obtained, such as h indices and their variants. The network analysis was also done by VOSviewer, version 1.6.13. Results: a total of 426 articles were published. The founding researcher showed an h-index (given by Google Scholar) of 20, which decreased as other authors joined the group. There were two authors with the same h-index, but with a higher g-index, that is, they accumulated a greater number of citations for the same number of works included in the index, and the h and g scope was inversely proportional to the years of experience, and therefore, to the number of publications of authors with index h = 1 or higher. ABSTRACT Objective: to analyze the Brazilian scientific production in Orofacial Motricity from the annals of Brazilian congresses and journals in the field of Speech Therapy in the last six years. Methods: for this bibliometric review, data related to the year of production, type of study, Brazilian region/State, modality of higher education institution, event/magazine and presentation format were considered and tabulated. The data were discussed from the perspective of quantitative and representative values. Results: 1,299 studies have been published in the past six years. The highest production was achieved in 2014 and there was a predominance of original studies. Public higher education institutions produced more studies when compared to private ones. The event with the largest number of publications was the Brazilian Congress on Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences, and the journal with the largest number of publications was CEFAC Journal. The Southeast region was predominant in publications, followed by the Northeast region. Conclusion: the characterization of scientific production in orofacial motricity allowed us to verify that this is a consolidated area of activity, although it still requires advances.

Background: the increase in the number of publications in scientific journals has raised the need to carry out periodic assessments of their scientific production or that of a specific area of knowledge.Objective: to characterize the articles on oncology, published in Cuban student scientific journals between January 2014 and April 2019.Methods: a bibliometric study was carried out on the type of articles declared in the objective, studying 28 articles. To gather the data, the journals’ Web pages were accessed, downloading the total articles founded. The following variables were assessed: journal, major of the first author, sex, number of authors, province of origin, medical specialty, type of article, references, price index (PI), citations and number of corrected citations (NCC).Results: 53,58 % of the articles were published in the 16 de Abril journal. 82,14 % of the first authors of each article belonged to the major of medicine and 57,55 % of the authors were male. There was a predominance of articles with 4 authors (36 %), from the specialty of general surgery (28,57 %), produced in Pinar del Río (28,57 %). An average of almost 20 references per article was found. The price index ranged between 0,28 and 0,86. 14,28 % of the articles were cited, with a predominance of review articles.Conclusions: the articles on oncology published in Cuban student scientific journals were characterized, finding a low scientific production, with low citation indexes.

ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze the technical-scientific production of research productivity fellows of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development, in Pediatrics, from 2013 to 2016. Methods: First, data were obtained identifying fellowship researchers using the Lattes Platform, and subsequently calculating the indicators present in their Lattes curricula using scriptLattes software v8.10. Results: In the period studied, 17 fellowship researchers were identified. They published a total of 524 articles in journals, most of them ranked as high and intermediate Qualis. In addition, fellowship researchers conducted 158 supervisions during the period, published 119 books or chapters and 465 papers in conference proceedings. Conclusion: The Brazilian scientific production in Pediatrics has shown to be significant and of good impact, both nationally and internationally. However, the distribution of research groups is concentrated in specific regions of Brazil.
