Изложено кратко состояние семеноводства в дореволюционной России, когда овощное семеноводство было в основном потребительским. Торговля семенами была в виде мелкой рыночной и в виде семенных торговых фирм, торговавших семенами большей частью иностранного происхождения. В 1918–1919 гг. молодое советское государство срочно приступает к организации государственного производства семян огородных растений. Острый недостаток семян огородных культур в связи с развитием отрасли овощеводства ощущался так остро, что главной задачей момента признавалось даже не улучшение сортовых и посевных качеств семян, а одно лишь их производство. В 1931 г. в связи с реорганизацией опытного дела создается Институт овощного хозяйства и сеть опытных станций, которые и приступили к размножению семян овощных культур. На фоне общего состояния семеноводства овощных культур в стране Институт овощного хозяйства и его опытные станции увеличили производство семян I репродукции с 133 ц в 1931 г. до 2936 ц в 1934 г. и до 3464 ц в 1935 г. Одновременно отрабатывались приемы агротехники. Во время Великой отечественной войны опытные станции института продолжали выращивать элитные и сортовые семена. В послевоенные годы институтом разрабатываются теоретические и практические вопросы семеноводства. Была разработана экономически обоснованная система зонального районирования семеноводства, технологии промышленного производства семян основных овощных культур, повышения посевных качеств семян в процессе их предпосевной обработки и сохранения их в процессе длительного и кратковременного хранения. Основная масса элитных и сортовых семян производилась на опытных станциях и опытно-производственных хозяйствах. Для организации элитного и сортового семеноводства, контроля над качеством проведения технологических операций по выращиванию, их подработке и подготовке к реализации системе Сортсемовощ, а также соблюдения правил хранения семян, ведения документации и согласования планов производства элитных семян и семян I репродукции с Минсельхозом СССР и Сортсемовощ был организован при институте Трест элитно-семеноводческих хозяйств. Объемы производства семян овощных культур достигали 530–550 т, в т.ч. 240–250 т элитных. Отработка элементов технологий производства семян продолжалась до 2010 г. В 2010 г. с организацией лаборатории семеноведения и первичного семеноводства основное внимание уделяется разработке вопросов биологии репродуктивного развития растений, совершенствования методов исследования качества и разнокачественности семян, элементов и технологий производства оригинальных семян сортов и F1 гибридов., The state of seed production in pre-revolutionary Russia, when vegetable seed production was mainly consumer, is summarized. In 1931, in connection with the reorganization of the pilot business, the Institute of Vegetable Economy and a network of their experimental stations were created, which began to propagate the seeds of vegetable crops. Against the background of the general state of seed production of vegetable crops in the country, the Institute of Vegetable Management and its experimental stations increased seed production of I reproduction from 133 centners in 1931 to 2936 centners in 1934 and to 3464 centners in 1935. At the same time, agricultural techniques were worked out. During World War II, the institute’s experimental stations continued to grow elite and varietal seeds. In the postwar years, the Institute developed theoretical and practical issues of seed production. An economically justifi ed system of zonal zoning of seed production, technology for industrial production of seeds of the main vegetable crops, increasing the sowing qualities of seeds during their pre-sowing processing and preserving them during long and short-term storage was developed. The bulk of elite and varietal seeds were produced at experimental stations and pilot production farms. To organize elite and varietal seed production, to control the quality of technological operations for growing, to work out them and prepare for the implementation of the Sortsemovoshch system, as well as to comply with the rules for storing seeds, maintaining documentation and coordinating production plans for elite seeds and seeds of the first reproduction with the USSR Ministry of Agriculture and Sortsemovoshch organized at the Institute of Trust elite-seed farms. Volumes of seed production of vegetable crops reached 530-550 tons, including 240–250 tons of elite. The development of elements of seed production technologies continued until 2010.
