Tech Dump is a social enterprise that operates an e-waste recycling business to support its mission of providing employment opportunities and job training for individuals with barriers to employment. Tumbling commodity prices have negatively impacted Tech Dump's revenue, profits, and cash reserves. The weakened financial position has led the Tech Dump's board of directors to question Tech Dump's ability to meet its job training mission and commitment to sustainability with its current business model. Students are required to analyze segment contribution statements for the recycling and reuse segments and to discuss how the organization's revenues, costs, and decisions are influenced by Tech Dump's status as a social enterprise. The topological structure of the underlying streets can help us better understand urban space and human activities therein. As human urban movements are inherently heterogenous in space and statistics, whether or not the network of streets holds a similar degree of heterogeneity worth being investigated. Relying on the graph theory and complex-network thinking, we adopted the street segment analysis-based methods and computed segment-based topological metrics in the downtown of two major cities in China: Beijing and Shanghai. More specifically, we used Flickr photo location data as a proxy of human urban activities and counted the movement flow at levels of both street-based communities and street segments. We measured the heterogeneity of each segment-based metric via the extent of being long-tailed in the rank-size distribution (long-tailedness). We found that segment-based betweenness was most long-tailed and was the best metric for capturing human activities within each community and that neither segment-based degree nor can closeness show a similar extent of long-tailedness and can have a good correlation with the segment-based flow. These findings point to the insight that the positive relationship between street structure and human activities is significantly shaped by their shared heterogeneous nature.

6. Estimation of global nanomedicine market: status, segment analysis, dynamics, competition and prospects
- Abstract
The object of research is the state, segment analysis, dynamics, competition and prospects of the global nanomedicine market. The methods of searching and analyzing literary data, summarizing, systematizing and visualizing data using diagrams are used. In 2020, health care was identified as the most commercial sector of the modern nanotechnology market with a share of capital investments of 19.5 %. The leadership of this field is due to the increased use of nanotechnology in the development of nanodiagnostics, nanosurgical robots, applications for cell repair, nanobiosensors, visualization and targeted drug delivery. According to the analysis of the nanomedicine market, the structure of nanomaterials in 2022 was dominated by the segment of nanoparticles with a share of capital investments of 74 %, by the scope of application – the segment of drug delivery (25.1 %), by the method of action – the segment of treatment (23.8 %), by the scope of action – the segment of clinical oncology (32.4 %), by geographical regions – the segment of the North America region (26.4 %). The main factors of the dynamics of the global market of nanomedicine are determined. This is an increase in the prevalence of chronic diseases; modern achievements in the development of nanomaterials and nanotechnologies; limited possibilities of the nanomedicine market; significant costs for scientific research, development of drugs and devices. As well as concerns about the safety of using nanomaterials and nanotechnologies; the potential toxicity and long-term effects of nanoparticle exposure on human health are under investigation. Prospects for further scientific research in the field of nanomedicine are determined. This is the deepening of collaboration and cooperation of the world's scientists and manufacturers of medical nanoproducts; development of new technologies for obtaining nanoparticles, especially composites of organic and inorganic origin; creation of medicinal forms for external, inter

We studied the value of a nuclear power plant by considering Koreans' willingness to pay (WTP) for neutralizing the various problems caused by building and operating a new plant. For this, we used a conjoint analysis and ordered logistic regression. We then compared the WTP estimates between various segment groups. The results revealed that each household was willing to pay an additional 99,677 Korean Won (KRW)/mo on average to resolve the negative impacts from a nuclear plant. Therefore, the yearly cognitive and economic value of a nuclear plant in Korea was about 19 trillion KRW. Through a segment analysis, we found that the more educated, younger, and poorer groups gave higher cognitive values than the less educated, older, and richer groups, respectively. Also, people who lived far from a plant gave higher values than people living near a plant, and people with more knowledge about or interest in nuclear energy gave higher values than people with less knowledge or interest. People who felt that nuclear energy is necessary gave higher values to nuclear energy than those who did not. Our results can be used as bases to set targets for promoting nuclear energy and pursuing a national project of building a nuclear power plant.

The abundance of devices connected to the Internet has made electronic commerce much more versatile and complex. With the help of low investments, any company can enter the global market and compete with the big companies in the field. This has led to a change in the way business is conducted worldwide. Understanding the evolution of current markets and user behavior is a challenge for companies that are active in the sale of products and services. Therefore, in this article, we will analyze the data available for global markets and the differences between them and the local market in Romania. Thus, we will see the distribution of users on the largest market segments according to different key metrics such as usage, reach, revenue, penetration rate, ARPU, gender, users by age, sales channel and user income. This study is a continuation of the research on organic matter sources, distribution and dynamics in the southern Baltic Sea described in detail by Maciejewska and Pempkowiak (2014). In this paper, cluster analysis, principal component analysis and segment analysis were used to assess relations among factors influencing organic matter concentration in the Baltic sea-water. The following sea-water properties, salinity (Sal), temperature (Temp), pH, concentrations of chlorophyll a (Chla) and phaeopigment a (Feo), were assessed, while dissolved (DOC) and particulate (POC) organic carbon were used as organic matter measures. Water samples were collected in the course of a three-year study (2009–2011) from the Gdańsk Deep, the Gotland Deep and the Bornholm Deep (Southern Baltic). As a result, relations among both DOC and POC and the measured water properties were revealed. The cluster analysis leads to the discovery of the following structure of the analyzed water properties: DOC-pH, POC-Chla, without providing interpretation why the structure exists. Using the principal component analysis, factors influencing DOC and POC concentrations were classified as plankton activity and the inflows of saline and freshwater water masses as the study area. Segment regression analysis revealed that organic matter consists of labile and stable fractions and led to the quantification of relations between DOC and the measured sea-water properties. The following contributions to the DOC fluctuations were calculated: salinity – 11%, chlorophyll a – 26%, phaeopigment a – 26%, POC – 38% in the growing season and 31%, 33%, 21% and 22% respectively in the non-growing season.

Qualitative social and cultural research is increasingly engaging with visual data. Starting from the premise "all is data" in grounded theory methodology (GTM), we propose a general framework to realize a visual grounded theory methodology (VGTM). Referring to exploratory visual methods based on objective hermeneutics, the documentary method, and segment analysis, as well as existing GTM discourses, we discuss how this text-centered procedure can be applied to visual data. We focus on the (re)formulation of procedural steps (such as making an inventory, segmentation and coding, memo writing, and sampling strategies), and the examination of images in relation to GTM logic. METROPOLITAN areas , *TRANSPORTATION agencies - Abstract
• Separating intersection and segment hot spots increases accuracy for safety analysis. • Removing intersection bias identifies hot spots that may otherwise go unnoticed. • Many high-ranking segments are experiencing mid-block crashes at access points. • Many locations outside of urbanized areas experience safety concerns. Transportation agencies commonly identify and mitigate crash hot spots. Using a full roadway (i.e., including both intersections and segments) crash analysis is beneficial, but the results may be skewed towards locations with high intersection crashes. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the use of a combination of two unique, yet complementary crash hot spot analyses, one for intersections and one for roadway segments. The combination of the two allow for an in-depth analysis of causes associated with specific roadway conditions to identify locations that are experiencing more injury-causing crashes than predicted. The crashes on the state route network are separated into one of the two analyses; crashes within the influence area of major intersections become part of the intersection analysis and all other crashes become part of the segment-only analysis. Due to the separation between intersection- and segment-related crashes, safety concerns can be brought to light that might otherwise go unnoticed in a full network analysis. For example, crashes related to driveways or excessive queuing found in the segment analysis indicate a potential need for access management countermeasures. In addition, locations with both adjacent segment and intersection hot spots can be pinpointed as places for more in-depth analysis of the contributing circumstances surrounding the crashes at these locations. Agencies that use an intersection analysis and a segment analysis together to identify crash hot spots can benefit from an increased accuracy of hot spot locations. Furthermore, the approach to mitigating safety concerns can become clearer if hot spots are separated into intersections and segments. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

MUSIC orchestration - Abstract
This article presents an analysis of the orchestration strategies used in Simon Steen-Andersen Double Up for sampler and orchestra. The analysis examines the relation between the 121 samples that make up the work’s electronic soundtrack and the orchestral imitation of these samples. The relation between the concept of the piece and its orchestration is summed up in six strategies: scoring the audio recordings, supplements, additive orchestration, chamber music orchestration, anonymization, and pre-orchestration. These strategies are presented as a qualification of the word “satisfactory” in Grove Music Online’s definition of orchestration as the art of combining instruments “to form a satisfactory blend and balance.” Furthermore, Double Up’s contribution to the use of sampling in orchestral music is evaluated. Synthesizing large, complex data sets to inform resource managers towards effective environmental stewardship is a universal challenge. In Chesapeake Bay, a well-studied and intensively monitored estuary in North America, the challenge of synthesizing data on water quality and land use as factors related to a key habitat, submerged aquatic vegetation, was tackled by a team of scientists and resource managers operating at multiple levels of governance (state, federal). The synthesis effort took place over a two-year period (2016–2018), and the results were communicated widely to a) scientists via peer review publications and conference presentations; b) resource managers via web materials and workshop presentations; and c) the public through newspaper articles, radio interviews, and podcasts. The synthesis effort was initiated by resource managers at the United States Environmental Protection Agencys' Chesapeake Bay Program and 16 scientist participants were recruited from a diversity of organizations. Multiple short, immersive workshops were conducted regularly to conceptualize the problem, followed by data analysis and interpretation that supported the preparation of the synthetic products that were communicated widely. Reflections on the process indicate that there are a variety of structural and functional requirements, as well as enabling conditions, that need to be considered to achieve successful outcomes from synthesis efforts. • Submerged aquatic vegetation in Chesapeake Bay is a critical coastal habitat. • Synthesizing historical data was achieved with scientists and resource managers participating in immersive workshops. • Synthesis output targeted scientific, management, and general audiences. • We identify ten lessons we learned for productive workshops. An iterative procedure for upgrading water distribution network reliability is proposed by recognizing valve locations. In each iteration, three types of alternatives: (1) an addition of a valve(s) to pipe(s) without a valve; (2) an addition of a parallel pipe to an existing pipe; and (3) an increase in size of newly added pipes, are compared and the best is implemented. The iterative method is continued until no further improvement in reliability is possible, or a desired level of reliability is reached. This method is illustrated through an example taken from literature. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

GOVERNMENT property ,REAL property ,REAL estate management ,LOCAL government ,GOVERNMENT ownership - Abstract
Purpose – This article aims to present an overview of the main issues related to public real estate management in Italian local governments and to define a reliable approach for the employment of real estate properties during the time. Design/methodology/approach – The research defines a theoretical framework that takes under consideration the "key variables" that affect the strategic management of a real estate asset portfolio. The suggested approach may help public managers in the decision-making process, enhancing the performance of the organization and the accountability in favor of the stakeholders. Findings – The results demonstrate that there are still several omissions in the management of these assets and that strategies adopted have not been centered on a preliminary analysis of the financial, economic and social fallouts in the mid-long term, mainly answering to short-term political needs and budgetary constraints. Unlike experiences developed in other European countries, in Italy the main answer was the divestment of real estate assets, assumed as a "first best solution". Practical implications – The article suggests a systemic and multidimensional approach for the management of a real estate portfolio and aims at developing a depth of knowledge in a field such as public property management, which can still be considered essentially unexplored by Italian literature. Originality/value – The paper emphasizes the strategic relevance of the subject for politicians, managers, technicians and researchers involved in the management of a real estate portfolio. - Abstract
Geographic space is best understood through the topological relationship of the underlying streets (note: entire streets rather than street segments), which enabales us to see scaling or fractal or living structure of far more less-connected streets than well-connected ones. It is this underlying scaling structure that makes human activities or urban traffic predictable, albeit in the sense of collective rather than individual human moving behavior. This power of topological analysis has not yet received its deserved attention in the literature, as many researchers continue to rely on segment analysis for predicting urban traffic. The segment-analysis-based methods are essentially geometric, with a focus on geometric details such as locations, lengths, and directions, and are unable to reveal the scaling property, which means they cannot be used for human activities prediction. We conducted a series of case studies using London streets and tweet location data, based on related concepts such as natural streets, and natural street segments (or street segments for short), axial lines, and axial line segments (or line segments for short). We found that natural streets are the best representation in terms of traffic prediction, followed by axial lines, and that neither street segments nor line segments bear a good correlation between network parameters and tweet locations. These findings point to the fact that the reason why axial lines-based space syntax, or the kind of topological analysis in general, works has little to do with individual human travel behavior or ways that human conceptualize distances or spaces. Instead, it is the underlying scaling hierarchy of streets – numerous least-connected, a very few most-connected, and some in between the least- and most-connected – that makes human activities or urban traffic predictable.

The article is devoted to the important approach to the possibility of the formation of qualitative and quantitative assessments in the interim analysis of foods quality. A specific feature of the food production is the work under the conditions of information gaps and incomplete source data. Analysis of such information requires special methods, which constitute one of the areas of econometrics. The central problem of econometrics is the formation of an econometric model and identifying opportunities of its use for describing, analyzing and forecast of real economic processes. The objective of this work is the formation of multiple regression model of nutritional and biological value of foods and conducting of subsequent analysis of both the model and its behavior under different initial data, including changes in the composition of the ingredients and their mineral and vitamin value depending on the manufacturing season of these products and possible use of advanced processing means. Changing the composition of the mineral-vitamin ingredients and, therefore, their relative amounts of selected food products over time allows us to apply a dynamic segment approach to such a problem.

The segment size of the Danish multi-story building stock from the period 1850-1930 is established through a unique major database managed by the Danish authorities. The outcome illustrates a large segment with 219,198 apartment units distributed over 14,831 unique buildings, all sharing characteristic geometry. Reduction of average U-value for the exterior facade is investigated in different dimensions, insulation degrees and thicknesses. The analysis shows that compared to insulation of only the infill walls below windows, fully covering insulation yields further 100-150% average U-value reduction. The large segment poses arguments for research into challenges raised by full surface insulation.

, By using the panel data of 59 semiconductor companies in 2001-2013 this study investigates the characteristics of financial condition of each product segment and explores the effective product line policy in semiconductor industry. Semiconductor is well-known as one of the fundamental products in contemporary information society. However, companies in the semiconductor industry often experiences financial difficulties, and we do not have a solution for it. From the analysis of semiconductor companies’ financial structure, we find that 1) entrants have to prepare the different strategy in accordance with each segment’s situation, and 2) focused product line policy brings more profit than diversified product line policy.

Segment Analysis ,Retail Banking ,Client-centric Approach ,Bank Customers' Segmentation - Abstract
„Откъсвайки се“ от маркетинг, насочен към отделното събитие и отделната трансакция, те развиват цялостен и постоянен маркетингов процес на основата на променящите се нужди на всеки клиент и използват технологиите, за да индивидуализират подхода си и да създават превъзхождащо клиентско изживяване., Burgas Free University, Market segmentation provides bank managers capabilities to develop appropriate strategies based on a thorough understanding of constantly changing customer needs and behavior. The current article clarifies some of the issues that arise in the process of bank clients' segmentation. The article proves the importance of the segment analysis in marketing decision process: the segmentation and careful targeting the customers is a key factor in achieving client-centricity in retail banking. Clientcentric banks develop comprehensive marketing approach based on understating of the needs of each customer and using technology to personalize their offers and communications and to create a superior customer experience.

Qualitative social and cultural research is increasingly engaging with visual data. Starting from the premise “all is data“ in grounded theory methodology (GTM), we propose a general framework to realize a visual grounded theory methodology (VGTM). Referring to exploratory visual methods based on objective hermeneutics, the documentary method, and segment analysis, as well as existing GTM discourses, we discuss how this text-centered procedure can be applied to visual data. We focus on the (re)formulation of procedural steps (such as making an inventory, segmentation and coding, memo writing, and sampling strategies), and the examination of images in relation to GTM logic., Historical Social Research Vol. 42, No. 4 (2017)

- Abstract
* Revised: [15-04, 2015], By using the panel data of 59 semiconductor companies in 2001-2013 this study investigates the characteristics of financial condition of each product segment and explores the effective product line policy in semiconductor industry.

- Abstract
The segment size of the Danish multi-story building stock from the period 1851-1930 is established through a unique major database managed by the Danish authorities. The outcome illustrates a large segment with 219,202 apartment units distributed over 14,832 unique buildings, all sharing characteristic geometry. Reduction of average U-value for the exterior fa ade is investigated in different dimensions, insulation degrees and thicknesses. The analysis shows that compared to insulation of only the infill walls below windows, fully covering insulation yields further 100-150% average U-value reduction. The large segment poses arguments for research into challenges raised by full surface insulation. (C) 2015 The Authors. Published by Elsevier Ltd.

Pipe failure is a major parameter affecting the reliability of a water distribution network (WDN). A WDN consists of isolation valves which are closed to isolate a failed pipe for repairs. Depending up on the location of valves, a group of pipes termed as a segment gets isolated. Herein, reliability is estimated based on supply shortfall considering isolation of an appropriate segment on failure of a pipe. Supply shortfall is obtained using node flow analysis. An existing water main system is chosen as an example to compare the reliability values obtained by considering the actual location of valves and valves in each pipes on either end.
