Consumers and marketers often post photos of experiential consumption online. While prior research has studied how human presence in social media images impacts viewers' responses, the findings are mixed. The present research advances the current understanding by incorporating viewers' need for self-identity into their response model. Six studies, including an analysis of field data (14,725 Instagram photos by a top travel influencer) and five controlled experiments, find that the presence (vs. absence) of another human in the photo of an identity-relevant experience (e.g. a vacation, a wedding) can lower viewers' liking and preference for the venue (i.e. the vacation destination, the wedding venue) in the photo. This effect is mediated by viewers' feelings of others' ownership of the venue and moderated by the relevance of the experience to the viewer's self-identity as well as the distinctiveness of the human in the photo. This research is the first to investigate the impact of human presence in shared photos through the lens of psychological ownership and the identity-signaling function of ownership. The findings offer practical insights into when marketers should avoid human presence in advertisements and how to mitigate the negative impact of human presence in online photos. Objective: Norm Balance is an approach under the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) where subjective norm is weighted by the relative importance of others and self-identity is weighted by the relative importance of self. The relative importance was measured previously by a trade-off measure. In this study, we developed separate measures for the relative importance. The study objectives were to: 1) assess the construct validity of the separate measures; 2) examine the approach of Norm Balance in predicting pharmacists' intention to collaborate with physicians to improve medication therapy; and 3) establish a modified TPB. Methods: We selected a random sample of 750 Iowa pharmacists and conducted two surveys. The first survey was to examine intention prediction, and the second survey was to examine behavior prediction by measuring behavior among respondents to the first survey. The relative importance was measured by both the trade-off measure and the separate measures. Exploratory factor analyses were performed for the relative importance of others (separate measures) and subjective norm, and for the relative importance of self (separate measures) and self-identity. Regressions for intention prediction were conducted for TPB with self-identity and the approach of Norm Balance. The same regressions were also conducted for three subgroups according to the median of the relative importance of others (trade-off measure). Moreover, another regression was conducted for behavior prediction. Results: 239 practicing pharmacists responded to the first survey, and 188 responded to the second survey. The separate measures had cross factor loadings, whereas the trade-off measure had low correlations with other constructs. Both regressions for intention prediction explained 75% of the variance, with self-efficacy and attitude being strong predictors. Selfidentity was not a predictor in the TPB with self-identify, but self-identity weighted by the relative importance of self was a significant predictor in the approach of Norm Balance. Regression coefficients of subjective norm and selfidentify varied across subgroups. The regression for behavior prediction explained 30% of the variance, with intention and self-efficacy being two predictors. Conclusion: The trade-off measure was better than separate measures. Self-optimisation has arguably become a central socio-cultural trend in contemporary Western societies. The imperative to optimise our ways of thinking, feeling and interacting with others features prominently in public discourse, and a range of commercial products and services are available to assist us in our quest to become the best version of our selves. However, self-optimisation has so far received scant attention in sociological research. Addressing this knowledge gap, we aim to introduce self-optimisation as a concept for sociological analysis. We first situate self-optimisation in several closely linked strands of academic debate, on transformations of self-identity under conditions of globalisation and neo-liberal capitalism, and on the spread of a therapeutic culture. We then map the socio-cultural antecedents of self-optimisation, survey its rise as a salient public discourse and as a form of everyday practice and consider some political implications. In order to create their social identity, humans have a tendency to express their feelings and self in the form of views and opinions that they expect from their immediate society. In today's tech-savvy world, social media has become the most important platform for expressing one's feelings, experiences and creating self-identity. Subcultures based on these online identities have a direct or indirect effect on fashion, subculture, intercommunity (individuals within the subculture community) and intracommunity (individuals outside the subculture community) individuals. The rise in popularity of social media platforms has led to the recreation of such subculture communities as an online trend. The current article talks about the relation between fashion, social media and these online identities. Multiple identities that are shaped and expressed through fashion and style are created and enacted through social media. Multiple case studies were analysed for qualitative secondary research to understand the effects of recreation of multiple online subcultures, which was filtered down to the Cottagecore, E-girls and Dark Academia subcultures while keeping in mind the relevance on social media and availability of resources. These were taken as interviews from articles and blogs as secondary research pertaining to each subculture. The objective of the article is to understand the effects of recreation of online subcultures on the particular subcultures, its intercommunity, intracommunity individuals, as well as the fashion industry. However, positive life changes can also be experienced (i.e., post-traumatic growth). This study aimed to characterize the social participation, self-awareness, and self-identity of individuals with TBI displaying post-traumatic growth.Fifteen participants (male = 10, mean age = 49.7 years) with moderate to severe TBI (average years post-injury = 15.2) were included in this mixed-methods study. Self-report questionnaires were used to assess social participation, self-awareness, and self-identity. Qualitative data, collected using semi-structured interviews, were used to categorize participants into two groups: higher (n = 8) and lower (n = 7) post-traumatic growth. Descriptive statistics were used to characterize participants in each group in terms of their social participation, self-awareness, and self-identity.Participants with higher post-traumatic growth had increased social participation, higher self-awareness, and fewer negative discrepancies between their pre- and post-injury self-identities, compared to participants with lower post-traumatic growth.This study contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of post-traumatic growth through the use of both qualitative and quantitative data. Objective To investigate the impact of fear of compassion on the sleep quality of college students and to examine the roles of self-identity and self-esteem in the relationship between fear of compassion and sleep quality. Methods A convenience sampling method was employed to conduct a questionnaire survey involving 1 002 enrolled college students, utilizing the fear of compassion Scale, Athens Insomnia Scale, Self-Identity Scale, and Self-Esteem Scale. Results Self-identity and self-esteem partially mediated and exhibited a chain mediating effect between fear of compassion and sleep quality among college students. The analysis of the mediating effects indicated that the simple mediating effects of self-identity and self-esteem on the relationship between fear of compassion and sleep quality were 0.031 (95%CI: 0.004-0.061) and 0.030 (95%CI: 0.015-0.049), respectively, while the chain mediating effect was 0.037 (95%CI: 0.020-0.056). Conclusion Fear of compassion can directly affect the sleep quality of college students and can also indirectly influence their sleep quality through the individual and chain mediating effects of self-identity and self-esteem. In the past 50 years, the transition from adolescence to adulthood has become longer (Arnett, 2000). This transition period is known as emerging adulthood and is characterized by self-identity exploration, particularly in the areas of career planning and romantic relationships. Self-identity is closely linked to quality of life and mental health. Studies on self-identity exploration during emerging adulthood have typically used a variable-centered approach; however, researchers have expressed doubts about this approach. Asendorpf (2015) argued that the variable-centered approach overlooks individual uniqueness and suggested using a person-centered approach for more accurate results regarding behavioral and psychological features. Therefore, this study proposed examining self-identity and psychological adaptation in emerging adulthood by considering both personal identity and relational identity using the person-centered approach (i.e., cluster analysis). An online questionnaire was used with measures including the QIF-III, QII-III, SWLS, RES, SCL-90R, Risk-Taking Behavior Inventory, and Social Alienation Inventory. A total of 777 completed questionnaires were analyzed. Cluster analysis revealed seven types of identity: high achievement, moderate achievement, low achievement, personal alienation, relational alienation, low alienation, and high alienation. These clusters showed varying degrees of psychological adaptation. The high achievement, moderate achievement, and low achievement identity clusters were associated with superior mental adjustment. Personal alienation was a more adaptive identity cluster than were other forms of alienation (i.e., relational alienation, low alienation, and high alienation). The low alienation and high alienation clusters were associated with poor psychological adjustment. The relational alienation cluster was associated with the most impulse control problems. This paper explores how self-identity can be impacted upon by the use of digital and social media. In particular, drawing on a narrative account of selfhood, it argues that some forms of activity and interaction on the internet can support the capacity to be oneself, and foster transformative processes that are self-enhancing. I start by introducing different positions in the philosophical exploration of identity online, critically outlining the arguments of those who hold a "pessimistic" and an "optimistic" stance respectively. I then expand on the narrative identity framework that has been used to support the optimists' view, arguing that digital and social media use can foster forms of self-understanding that enable us to preserve or develop our identity. More precisely, exploring these dynamics also in relation to the lived experience of mental ill-health, I maintain that internet-enabled technology can support narrative self-constitution in three main ways: (1) by facilitating the processes through which we remember self-defining life-stories; (2) by enabling us to give salience to the stories that we decide should matter the most; and (3) by providing us with opportunities to obtain social uptake for our narratives. This article showcases a speculative methodology for recreating interactions between a human and Google Search's Auto-Predict interface as conversations, to explore how AI-based systems are both persuasive and deeply personal. Using ethnomethodology tools and a symbolic interactionist lens, the paper presents three versions of a single Google search, each variation building a slightly different angle on the plausible utterances and interpersonal dynamics of the human and nonhuman partners. This thought experiment emerges from a decade of classroom-based digital literacy exercises with young adults, training them to analyze their lived experiences with digital media, algorithms, and devices. Transforming information exchanges into personal conversations provides a creative method for analyzing how relations are co-constructed in the granular processes of interaction, through which mutual intelligibility is built, meaning about the world is made, and identities are formed. Exploring farmers' willingness for cultivated land quality protection (WCQP) is crucial for preserving land quality. The existing sociopsychological research often examines farmers' WCQP from a single perspective—either self-identity or social identity—overlooking the structural relationship between the two. This oversight hinders the development of synergistic policies for cultivated land quality protection. Based on a micro-survey of 439 farm households in Shaanxi Province, China, this study constructs a theoretical analysis framework for farmers' WCQP that integrates the structural relationships of self-identity and social identity. Self-identity is further subdivided into cognitive identity, emotional identity, and behavioral identity. Using structural equation modeling (SEM), the study analyzes the impact of cognitive identity, emotional identity, behavioral identity, and social identity on farmers' WCQP. Additionally, the moderating effects of social identity are explored. The results indicate that (1) based on the baseline regression results, farmers' cognitive identity, emotional identity, behavioral identity, and social identity all promote WCQP among farmers; (2) the analysis of moderating effects further indicates that farmers' social identity enhances the positive impact of cognitive identity on their WCQP. However, the moderating effect of social identity is conditional in shaping the impact of emotional identity on farmers' WCQP. These findings remain valid after addressing endogeneity and conducting robustness tests. When farmers' emotional identity is high, social identity strengthens its promotive effect on their WCQP, but when farmers' emotional identity is low, social identity actually hinders this effect. Our research not only simultaneously considers both the self-identity and social identity of farmers but also delves into their structural relationship. Aims/Background In light of the increased utilization of digital technology among the elderly population, understanding the relationship between e-health literacy, self-identity, social capital, and educational participation motivation has become crucial. This study aims to investigate these relationships and explore the mediating effects of self-identity and social capital on the elderly population. By shedding light on these aspects, the study seeks to contribute to the existing knowledge base and inform intervention strategies to enhance the elderly individuals' overall well-being and engagement with digital health resources. Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted in a sample consisting of 578 elderly participants. Data of the surveyed variables were analyzed. Mediating effect analysis methods were employed to explore the mediating roles of self-identity and social capital in the relationship between e-health literacy and educational participation motivation among the elderly individuals. Results The results revealed a significant positive correlation between e-health literacy, self-identity, social capital, and educational participation motivation among elderly individuals. Furthermore, self-identity and social capital were found to play significant mediating roles between e-health literacy and educational participation motivation. Specifically, self-identity and social capital acted as complete mediators, with a mediating effect value of 0.61, between e-health literacy and educational participation motivation. Additionally, the chained mediating effect of self-identity and social capital was also significant. Conclusion This study demonstrated that e-health literacy and educational participation motivation are closely intertwined, with self-identity and social capital acting as the mediators in this association, in the elderly population, providing valuable guidance for enhancing the health and quality of life and offering insightful references for the development and implementation of relevant policies. Loneliness is an important risk factor for problematic smartphone use (PSU) among adolescents and the mechanisms underlying this correlation remain unclear. In this study, a moderated serial mediation model was tested by administering the Problematic Smartphone Use Scale for Chinese Adolescents, the Loneliness Scale (LS), the Upward Social Comparison Scale, the Fear of Missing Out Scale, and the Self‐Identity Scale to 466 Chinese adolescents. The results showed that: (1) loneliness was positively correlated with PSU, (2) upward social comparison (USC) and fear of missing out served as sequential mediating factors in the correlation between loneliness and PSU, and (3) self‐identity played a moderating role between USC and fear of missing out. These findings shed new light on developing strategies to prevent and intervene in adolescents' PSU by revealing the underlying mechanisms between loneliness and PSU. This paper investigates how becoming a mother—and navigating such a complicated life transition—while pursuing an academic career impacts the way female researchers perceive themselves as acting subjects. By analyzing in‐depth virtual interviews with Italian female early career researchers, this work explores the relationship between fertility decisions, motherhood hardships, self‐identity, and career‐related experiences in the interviewees' biographical trajectories. Despite their consideration of childbearing as a mental and practical obstacle to scientific production, many of the interviewees ascribe positive career outcomes to the arrival of their first child. The reflexivity set in motion by the interview process allows us to observe the collected interviews as double‐layered narratives. The postponement of fertility choices and the presence of work‐family conflict tend to be described as ordinary facets of a common career pattern, intrinsic to the female academic working experience. Meanwhile, the positive impacts of motherhood on self‐identity and work‐related skills are recounted on a more individual level, framed as a sort of paradox, a personal journey of self‐discovery or—to some extent ‐ a heroic performance. Abstract Background Generalized anxiety (GA) is showing a high prevalence among adolescents nowadays; investigations on influencing factors and potential mechanisms are important to inform intervention development. The present two-wave study investigated the ways in which family functioning predicted GA six months later among adolescents, by considering the mediating role of self-identity and cognitive flexibility. Methods Adolescents were recruited from 27 randomly selected classes in two secondary schools in Chongqing and Fujian Province, China. Survey questionnaires assessing family functioning, self-identity, cognitive flexibility and GA were obtained from 1223 adolescents (M age = 13.14, SD = 1.35) at two time points of the 6-month interval. Effective interventions that facilitate adjustment following acquired brain injury (ABI) are needed to improve long-term outcomes and meaningful reengagement in life. VaLiANT is an 8-week group intervention that combines cognitive rehabilitation with Acceptance and Commitment therapy to improve valued living, wellbeing, and adjustment. This study explored participant experiences of VaLiANT to optimize its ongoing development. This included characterization of individually meaningful treatment outcomes, mechanisms of action, and intervention acceptability. Qualitative interviews and quantitative ratings were collected from 39 ABI survivors (Mage = 52, SD = 15; 54% stroke) following their participation in VaLiANT. Participants reported diverse outcomes which resulted in three themes being generated following reflexive thematic analysis. “A fuller toolkit for life with brain injury” indicated increased strategy usage and better daily functioning; “The value of connection and belonging” captured the importance of social experiences in shaping recovery; and “Finding the me I can be” represented cognitive, behavioural, and emotional aspects of identity reconstruction post-ABI. The content and delivery of the intervention were rated highly but participants desired greater follow-up and tailoring of the intervention. Overall, VaLiANT appears to facilitate adjustment through several mechanisms, but greater intervention individualization and dosage may be required to enhance the treatment impact. Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the attributes of female self-identity, and investigate the correlation between addiction to short videos, self-esteem, objectification of female content, internalization of beauty ideals, and self-identity. The goal is to develop a psychological framework that enhances our comprehension of the self-identity of contemporary Chinese women. Methodology: This study employed an online survey with a convenience sampling approach to gather responses from 400 female short video users from four most popular Chinese social media platforms: Sina Weibo, Xiaohongshu, Douban and WeChat, the Chinese equivalents of Twitter, Instagram, Reddit and WhatsApp respectively. Results: The results suggest that (1) self-esteem played a significant role in mediating the relationship between short video addiction and self-identity; (2) the chain mediating effect of internalisation of beauty ideals and self-esteem was not statistically significant, and (3) the chain mediating effect of objectification of female content and self-esteem was statistically significant. Therefore, the greater the short video addiction, the lower self-esteem, the deeper the appearance anxiety, and thus the higher the likelihood that the individual would not identify with themselves. The results provide a theoretical foundation for gaining a deeper understanding of the factors that influence females' self-identity. Simultaneously, it offers new ideas for enhancing women's selfidentity. In addition, previous studies on women's appearance anxiety have given less attention to self-esteem and self-identity. The article examines how visions of the future were constructed by eight adolescent girls graduating from secondary school under a COVID-19 lockdown in Germany. Employing grounded theory method to analyse interview data, it theorises how the girls under lockdown constructed visions of their future along space and time in terms of traffic mobility, nature and embodied reproduction. The findings indicate that the girls creatively used topic-dependent constructions of space and time to generate hope and control and thereby maintained their agency and an adolescent self-identity for their anticipated futures during the lockdown-present. These findings are then integrated into a theoretical model that introduces the strategy of 'morphing temporality' to describe how the girls constructed hope and control and maintained agency and an adolescent self-identity despite the sudden spatial lockdown constraints. Purpose: This study in Iran examined the role of internal and external psychological factors that affected green purchase intention. Moreover, it examined these variables' direct and indirect effects and green purchase intention on green purchase behavior. Design/methodology/approach: An extended version of the theory of planned behavior (TPB) was employed, based on which a theoretical model was designed to reach the authors' aim. An online questionnaire was used to collect data. For data analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, structural equation modeling, the bootstrapping method and the Preschool Language Scale (PLS) product-indicator approach were conducted to test the proposed conceptual model. Findings: Results show that self-identity, self-interest, self-efficacy and a growth mindset have a positive impact on green purchase intention. However, the study found no predictive effect from peer influence and warm glow. In addition, self-efficacy and green purchase intention significantly affect green purchase behavior. The study reveals that green purchase intention substantially mediates the relationship between self-interest, growth mindset, warm glow and green purchase behavior. Further, warm glow moderates the impact of peer influence, self-identity and self-efficacy on green purchase intention. This study emphasizes the critical role of dispositional factors on green purchase intention and behavior. Originality/value: Few studies consider the effect of the individual self, a growth mindset, a warm glow and peer influence on green purchase intention simultaneously. In addition, the authors introduced a different version of the TPB model. Further, this research also conducted how these variables, directly and indirectly, affect green purchase behavior. Purpose: This study aims to explore the impact of store atmospherics on urban bottom-of-the-pyramid consumers' behavioural intentions to purchase apparel in an emerging African market context. This study also considers purchase antecedents to attitude, perceived behavioural control and social norms as determinants of urban bottom-of-the-pyramid consumers' apparel behavioural intentions. Design/methodology/approach: Using non-probability sampling, specifically purposive and interlocking sampling, data collection was secured from 881 economically active Namibian urban bottom-of-the-pyramid respondents through interviewer-administered questionnaires. Covariance-based structural equation modelling assessed the significant relationships among all constructs in the conceptual model. Findings: This study found that for favourable apparel behavioural intentions of urban bottom-of-the-pyramid consumers to occur, apparel retailers should emphasise trust, perceived awareness and self-identity through apparel assortment and groupings, easy-to-read visible signage, together with competent, friendly and respectful sales personnel in their store atmospherics. Practical implications: The findings of this study may guide apparel retailers in other emerging African markets to develop regional integration, market-based solutions and inclusive economic growth focusing on "non-essential" products, such as apparel, among urban bottom-of-the-pyramid consumers. Originality/value: This study expands the intellectual boundaries of urban bottom-of-the-pyramid consumers' behavioural intentions towards "non-essential" products. The theoretical framework supports the integration of both the stimulus-organism-response model and the theory of planned behaviour into one single model for empirical investigation. After Africa, India has been a home for many indigenous communities who are still untouched by modern lifestyle. In particular indigenous adolescence is the one with the least exposure to the external world. There is a huge gap between how indigenous adolescence perceives them and how they understand interpersonal relationship with the non-indigenous group. Even though Government takes many initiatives they still hesitate to come out their comfort-zone and lagging in interpersonal relationship with non-indigenous people. Results found that rationality indirectly mediates the relationship between self-identity and social intelligence. Adolescence’s who are taught to think rationally are better able to assess events using facts and evidence, which allows them to respond appropriately with a deeper comprehension of the circumstances through reasoning. So, rational thinking helps to reduce perceptual bias, conflict resolution between their group likewise improves scientific thinking and effective communication of indigenous students. Indigenous researchers should develop intervention programs to improve their rational thinking, which helps to enhance their social intelligence and most importantly they believe their own ability to make wise decisions.

Background: Newer "closed-loop" neurostimulation devices in development could, in theory, induce changes to patients' personalities and self-perceptions. Empirically, however, only limited data of patient and family experiences exist. Responsive neurostimulation (RNS) as a treatment for refractory epilepsy is the first approved and commercially available closed-loop brain stimulation system in clinical practice, presenting an opportunity to observe how conceptual neuroethical concerns manifest in clinical treatment.Methods: We conducted ethnographic research at a single academic medical center with an active RNS treatment program and collected data via direct observation of clinic visits and in-depth interviews with 12 patients and their caregivers. We used deductive and inductive analyses to identify the relationship between these devices and patient changes in personality and self-perception.Results: Participants generally did not attribute changes in patients' personalities or self-perception to implantation of or stimulation using RNS. They did report that RNS affected patients' experiences and conceptions of illness. In particular, the capacity to store and display electrophysiological data produced a common frame of reference and a shared vocabulary among patients and clinicians.Discussion: Empirical experiences of a clinical population being treated with closed-loop neuromodulation do not corroborate theoretical concerns about RNS devices described by neuroethicists and technology developers. However, closed-loop devices demonstrated an ability to change illness experiences. Even without altering identify and self-perception, they provided new cultural tools and metaphors for conceiving of epilepsy as an illness and of the process of diagnosis and treatment. These findings call attention to the need to situate neuroethical concerns in the broader contexts of patients' illness experiences and social circumstances.

After Africa, India has been a home for many indigenous communities who are still untouched by modern lifestyle. In particular indigenous adolescence is the one with the least exposure to the external world. There is a huge gap between how indigenous adolescence perceives them and how they understand interpersonal relationship with the non-indigenous group. Even though Government takes many initiatives they still hesitate to come out their comfort-zone and lagging in interpersonal relationship with non-indigenous people. Results found that rationality indirectly mediates the relationship between self-identity and social intelligence. Adolescence's who are taught to think rationally are better able to assess events using facts and evidence, which allows them to respond appropriately with a deeper comprehension of the circumstances through reasoning. So, rational thinking helps to reduce perceptual bias, conflict resolution between their group likewise improves scientific thinking and effective communication of indigenous students. Indigenous researchers should develop intervention programs to improve their rational thinking, which helps to enhance their social intelligence and most importantly they believe their own ability to make wise decisions. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of self-identification and positive emotion intervention on college students' English reading comprehension. In the context of globalization, proficiency in English reading is crucial for effective crosscultural communication and career advancement. However, previous research has primarily focused on the influence of selfefficacy on long-term learning, neglecting the examination-specific utilization of psychological adjustment strategies (such as positive emotional intervention) and its correlation with test performance and scores among students. Therefore, this study posits that through psychological adjustment and alleviation of test anxiety, positive emotional intervention and selfidentification can facilitate improvements in English reading comprehension skills as well as enhance test coping abilities. A total of 61 non-English major college students were randomly selected and divided into two groups: "moderate self-identification group" and "high self-identification group". Each group was further subdivided into an intervention group and a control group. The statistical software SPSS was employed to conduct descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, cluster analysis, and difference analysis in order to elucidate the relationship between positive emotions, self-identification, and English reading scores. These findings aim to provide novel insights for both the education industry and the psychological field. The results revealed that positive emotion intervention significantly influenced students' English reading test scores across different levels of selfidentification. Specifically, students with a moderate level of self-identification exhibited improved performance after receiving positive emotion intervention, whereas those with a high level of self-identification maintained better performance without additional situational motivation. Furthermore, it was observed that reading materials of varying difficulty levels also impacted reading comprehension at an intermediate level of English proficiency. Overall, this study confirms the efficacy of positive emotion intervention in assisting students in effectively coping with challenges and enhancing their accuracy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study explores the impact of online identity on individuals' perception of self and communication codes. Specifically, the study investigates the relationship between the presentation and construction of identity and gender identity. The research methodology involves conducting in-depth interviews with eight Turkish university students aged 19–23, hailing from various cities across Turkey. Through these interviews and subsequent evaluations, the study identifies significant differences between social and digital identities, which can be attributed to various demographic factors, including gender. Furthermore, the study argues that the digital realm provides favourable opportunities for individuals to express their identities while serving as a platform for mobilization, opposition and alternative modes of communication that challenge existing societal norms. Background and Objectives: Theory-based educational interventions are a logical approach in order to improve pro-environmental behaviors. This study was conducted with the aim of investigating the effectiveness of the educational intervention based on the extended theory of planned behavior on pro-environmental behaviors in residents of Qazvin city. Materials & Methods: Using a multi-stage random sampling method, 120 citizens referring to Qazvin health care centers participated in a quasi- experimental study in 2022-2023. Targeted educational content was provided through what’s APP and online training (4 sessions) in the form of lectures and group discussions along with educational pamphlets and text messages for the experimental group. Data were collected before and 3 months after the Theory based education using demographic questionnaires, Pro-environmental Knowledge, moral commitment, Self- identity, TPB subscales, and pro-environmental behavior questionnaires, and were analyzed with SPSS 25.0 software and chi-square, independent and paired T-tests, ANOVA and ANCOVA were analyzed. Results: The mean of pro-environmental awareness (from 5.2±1.3 to 10.9±2.1), attitude (from 17.5±2.5 to 34.7±6.1), subjective norms (from 8.9±1.8 to 14.9±1.3), self-identity (from 8.8±1.7 to 12.7±2.1), moral commitment (from 10.9±1.4 to 15.0±2.1), behavioral control (from 15.7±1.6 to 24.9±3.5) and behavioral intention (from 7.4±2.2 to 11.2±9) significantly improved in the experimental group after theory based education (P<0.001). Also, the mean of pro-environmental behaviors improved significantly after controlling the effect of the pre-test variable in the experimental group (36.4±9.5 to 52.2±8.7, P<0.001). Conclusion: The implementation of educational interventions based on the extended theory of planned behavior can encourage pro-environmental behaviors in citizens by improving psychological factors. Introduction: The prevalence of non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) among prisoners is widely recognized. However, most research conducted in prisons setting has focused on lifetime engagement in NSSI, with limited knowledge about its correlates and risk factors during imprisonment. Methods: Drawing on the integrated theoretical model of NSSI, this study aimed to examine the combined effects of childhood maltreatment (an environmental factor) and two intrapersonal factors, namely self-identity and sensation-seeking, on NSSI. 1042 Chinese male offenders participated in the current study, and regression analyses is used to examine the relationship among variables. Results: The results revealed that self-identity mediated the association between childhood maltreatment and prisoners' NSSI. Sensation-seeking moderated the relationship between self-identity and NSSI, and this connection was only significant for offenders with high sensation-seeking. In the preamble to the Declaration of Independence “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness” are described as being unalienable rights of people and moreover, they constitute the core of the American national ethos: ‘the American Dream’. Nevertheless, full access to the plenty of potentialities inherent in this rhetoric seems to have been denied to specific categories of people, thus resulting in an endorsement of exclusivity and discrimination, when actually it should have supported inclusivity and equal opportunities to every American citizen. Especially the notion of “liberty” has historically been influenced by many socially constructed categories in the US, notably race, religious belief, gender, and sexual orientation. Therefore, the connected conceits of ‘life’ and ‘the pursuit of happiness’ couldn’t help but be reshaped by those categorizations. This despicable state of things had such a profound impact on the life and works of many authors – especially on those who closely faced an unjust set of domination and discrimination due to their ethnicity and sexuality that they publicly condemned how suffocating and hypocritical American society still was in the twentieth century. Among them stands the influential African American writer James Baldwin, a figure in which one can really feel the struggle of being labelled as both African American and homosexual by the hypochondriac white society of the US. In his second novel entitled Giovanni’s Room (1956), Baldwin deeply explored the theme of the ‘quest for self-identity’ in connection with the theme of sexual orientation. Thus, the aim of this paper is to investigate how – and why – Baldwin makes use of Africanist, or Africanlike, characters (e.g., the Italian immigrant Giovanni) to explore topics that otherwise would have been taboo, which means homosexuality and even bisexuality in the American society of the 1950s. In particular, the analysis will rely on the seminal work of literary criticism Playing in the Dark: Whiteness and the Literary Imagination (1992), by Toni Morrison, who greatly examined the peculiar use of black characters in American literature for the first time.

本研究旨在以女性主義取向團體輔導方案的介入，探討具有自傷行為兒童在團體歷程中的自我認同發展。本研究採取行動研究，招募五名國小六年級學童為研究對象（四女一男），進行每週一次，一次四十分鐘，為期八次的小團體輔導。團體設計以女性主義諮商理論為本，涵蓋身份覺察、賦能、敘說、平權等重要議題。透過省思札記、成員及師長的訪談記錄、觀察員的觀察與回饋等多種方式蒐集資料，結合三角驗證方式分析，以瞭解具有自傷行為兒童在女性主義團體輔導歷程之經驗內涵。重要結果如下：一、女性主義取向強調團體敘說、平權關係與支持關懷，促使學童有機會自我揭露生命故事，從而連結彼此。二、女性主義團體輔導方案的介入，有助於學童對社會角色的覺察，轉化以正向觀點定義自己，增進改變的行動力。三、學童在團體的普同經驗，促使學童降低孤獨感，進而坦然面對自傷與真實自我。四、學童覺察與肯定其優勢能力，提升我能感，促使增進自信心與自我認同。五、在團體歷程中的行動與改變，促進學童對自我的賦權，進而提升自我認同與悅納，進而將改變實踐於日常生活。 This study explored the self-identity development of children with non-suicidal self-injury behavior through a feminist-oriented group counseling program intervention. This study adopted an action research approach and included five participants from the sixth grade: four females and one male. The group met once a week for 40 minutes each time, for eight weeks. The group project involved doctrines of feminist counseling theory, including awareness, empowerment, narrative, and equality. Data were collected through the researcher’s reflections, observer’s notes, and interviews with the participants and with the participants’ teachers and parents. The researcher analyzed data and verified the analysis by using the triangulation method. This study’s findings are summarized as follows: 1. The narratives, equality, and supportive care that the feminist group counseling approach emphasizes provided the self-harm student participants the opportunities to tell and re-tell their life stories; disclosing their stories helped them connect to the other participants. 2. The group counseling intervention helped students aware of their social roles, transform their thoughts into a positive perspective, and enhance their capacities to change. 3. The common experience that the students shared during the group process helped reduce their loneliness, rethink their self-harm behaviors, and face their true selves openly. 4. Through the group process, students gained more awareness and confidence regarding their strengths in abilities, enhanced their sense of power, and fostered a strong sense of self-identity. 5. The action and change during the group process facilitated the students’ self-empowerment, enriched their self-identity and self-acceptance, and finally, helped them implement changes in everyday life.

The appeal to the problem of alienation of personality in the conditions of modern reality has relevance due to the fact that it allows analyzing the status of such a phenomenon as the crisis of self-identity. The ways of the constitution of the self by a person in the conditions of the emerging digital reality acquire the meaning of “answers” to the problem of self-alienation of the individual. The purpose of the study is to consider the newly emerging aspects of the process of alienation associated with the formation of a reality that goes beyond the empirical space of the main spheres of public life that has become familiar to the broad masses of people. The objectives of this work are: firstly, a review of the main methodological approaches to the study of alienation in the history of philosophical thought; secondly, an analysis of new forms of alienation emerging in the digital space. The most adequate to the set goals and objectives is the comparative approach, which is a transdisciplinary methodology that allows avoiding one-sided interpretation of the phenomena under study. The article examines the ideas about the nature of alienation in classical and non-classical philosophy, due to various factors of reality that generate the “discontinuity” of human existence. It is shown that the category of “alienation” is a product of understanding the contradictions between the laws of nature and society with human nature. New forms of alienation are subjected to philosophical reflection. The paper draws attention to the fact that the crisis of personal identity is largely due to the increasing role and importance of a person in the modern world. The consequence of his active life position is not only socio-cultural transformations, but also the emergence of new problems that indicate an identity crisis and require deep philosophical reflection, the search for answers to the problem of human self-alienation. The novelty of the work lies in determining the significance of the fact of constructing a virtual self-identity by a person as a way to solve the problem of self-alienation. The article is of an installation nature, its conclusions should be considered as theoretical prerequisites for the analysis of such problems as the peculiarities of modern man’s being, his identity and polyidentity, as well as the problems of determining the nature of the emerging universal hyperreality.

This study conducts qualitative research on late adolescent digital music users aged 17–19 to explore their emotional resonance and identities in digital music consumption. The findings indicate that late adolescents are highly dependent on music, with it playing a significant role in their lives, particularly in meeting emotional needs and shaping identities. Late-adolescent digital music users seek to assert themselves through unique and unconventional music tastes. The study also uncovers the coexistence of personalization and socialization in their music-listening behaviors, dividing them into “music-experienced” and “music-socialized” groups. Regarding emotional motivation, the music-experienced group listens to music for personal empathy, while the music-socialized group seeks interpersonal emotional resonance through music-based social interaction. From a practical perspective, this study suggests that the digital music industry should focus on the emotional value generated by music and balance users’ personalization and socialization needs.

Exploring farmers’ willingness for cultivated land quality protection (WCQP) is crucial for preserving land quality. The existing sociopsychological research often examines farmers’ WCQP from a single perspective—either self-identity or social identity—overlooking the structural relationship between the two. This oversight hinders the development of synergistic policies for cultivated land quality protection. Based on a micro-survey of 439 farm households in Shaanxi Province, China, this study constructs a theoretical analysis framework for farmers’ WCQP that integrates the structural relationships of self-identity and social identity. Self-identity is further subdivided into cognitive identity, emotional identity, and behavioral identity. Using structural equation modeling (SEM), the study analyzes the impact of cognitive identity, emotional identity, behavioral identity, and social identity on farmers’ WCQP. Additionally, the moderating effects of social identity are explored. The results indicate that (1) based on the baseline regression results, farmers’ cognitive identity, emotional identity, behavioral identity, and social identity all promote WCQP among farmers; (2) the analysis of moderating effects further indicates that farmers’ social identity enhances the positive impact of cognitive identity on their WCQP. However, the moderating effect of social identity is conditional in shaping the impact of emotional identity on farmers’ WCQP. These findings remain valid after addressing endogeneity and conducting robustness tests. When farmers’ emotional identity is high, social identity strengthens its promotive effect on their WCQP, but when farmers’ emotional identity is low, social identity actually hinders this effect. Our research not only simultaneously considers both the self-identity and social identity of farmers but also delves into their structural relationship. This provides theoretical support and practical guidance for developing more targeted land quality conservation policies from a social–psychological perspective.

Introduction: Emotional eating not only contributes to physical obesity but also leads to the experience of guilt and shame, exacerbating emotional problems. Increasing physical activity, adopting a balanced diet, and seeking psychological support help improve emotional eating issues in overweight or obese young adults, enhancing overall mental and physical well-being. Methods: This study investigates the correlation between physical activity, self-identity, social anxiety, and emotional eating among 373 overweight and obese college students aged 18-26 in central China. By utilizing AMOS v.26, a structural equation model was constructed to examine the hypotheses. Results: The findings reveal that physical activity significantly influences selfidentity and social anxiety, which, in turn, significantly impact emotional eating. Moreover, self-identity and social anxiety serve as mediators in the relationship between physical activity and emotional eating. These results emphasize the role of physical activity in mitigating emotional eating among young individuals struggling with overweight and obesity. Discussion: Consequently, the government and relevant agencies are urged to address the issue of obesity among young adults and provide support for their engagement in physical activity. Social media serves as a means for users to place themselves in the desired framework. Through social media, people can quickly build relationships, add insight, shape, express, and display their identity. Discussions about self-identity become unique and exciting when a Baduy citizen uses social media and forms his identity. Of course, we already know that the Baduy are one of the tribes in the Banten region and are a group of indigenous peoples in the interior who still adhere to the culture of their ancestors. The purpose of this study is to examine how outside Baduy residents construct their identities on Instagram social media. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. The study results show that outside Baduy residents are familiar with gadgets and Instagram social media. The motive for using social media is to promote Baduy products and culture. Instagram makes it easy to access information. The construction of self-identity on Instagram is shown by posting pictures of Baduy characteristics or identities, such as the Instagram account name added with the word "Baduy", Baduy clothes and accessories, daily activities in Kanekes Village, and original Baduy products and customs. Introduction: During the 2019 coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, wearing masks not only prevented transmission of the virus but also reduced social anxiety to some extent. With the end of the epidemic, the intention to wear masks to prevent transmission declined, but the effect of social anxiety on the intention to wear masks is unclear. The current study investigated the effects of social anxiety and fear of COVID-19 on mask-wearing intentions in the post-epidemic era, using self-identity, impression management and avoidance as mediating variables. Methods: In total, 223 college students participated in the current study, and the related variables were measured using the social anxiety scale, the social behavior questionnaire, the self-identity questionnaire, and the mask-wearing intention questionnaire. Results: The results showed that social anxiety was significantly positively correlated with avoidance, impression management, and intention to wear masks, and significantly negatively correlated with self-identity. The fear of COVID-19, avoidance, and impression management were significantly positively correlated with mask-wearing intentions, while self-identity was significantly negatively correlated with mask-wearing intentions. Social anxiety affected college students’ intention to wear masks through three main pathways: the mediating role of avoidance, impression management, and the chain mediating role of self-identity and avoidance. The fear of COVID-19 directly and positively affected mask-wearing intentions. Discussion: The current study reveals the differential pathways of the effects of COVID-19 fear and social anxiety on mask-wearing intentions in the postCOVID-19 era, and the findings have some practical implications for social anxiety interventions. This study explores the evolving interest in names. Until now, the little research conducted has focused on surnames and place names. This paper examines the influence of origin and self-identity on reactions to forenames and pet forms by employing a comparative approach across English and Spanish languages. With 425 participants from Murcia, Spain, and Leeds, United Kingdom, this study employed a self-designed semi-structured questionnaire in both languages. The questionnaire addresses demographic information and name preferences and liking based on the participant and name origins. Using quota non-probability sampling and personal interviews, the research applied qualitative and quantitative analyses utilising SPSS 28.0.0 and thematic analysis. The findings highlight participants' connections between names and origins, echoing the linguistic–cultural interplay. Divergences emerge in discussing fashion trends and self-identity expressions between Spanish and English participants, potentially tied to historical and linguistic factors. The study underscores varying name significance in the two districts, revealing insights into cultural and identity associations. Background: Adolescents and young adults living with HIV (AYA) are faced with the challenge of living with a life-long chronic condition. We investigated the influences on the decisions by AYA to disclose their HIV status to family, intimate partners and friends. Methods: Twenty AYA aged between 15 and 24 years were purposely selected through local community-based organisations in eThekwini municipality and uMkhanyakude district in KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa. Virtual in-depth interviews were conducted between September 2020 to October 2021 using a topic guide focusing on HIV-status disclosure and the impact of stigma on decision-making capacity. An iterative thematic process was used for analysis. Results: Findings revealed the challenges that AYA experience for disclosure because of stigma and how this impacts their decision-making capacity. Family and friends influenced AYA in processing their discovery of their HIV status offering support needed to manage living with HIV. However, for some AYA disclosing to relatives, friends and intimate partners was difficult because of fears of rejection and recrimination. The act of disclosure was influenced by both internalised and external stigma and the type of relationships and interactions that AYA had with relatives, friends and caregivers. Conclusions: The decision to disclose is challenging for AYA because of the fear of rejection, along with internal and external stigma. The provision of support, whether from family or peers, is important. Enhancing the decision-making capacity of AYA is essential for developing their self-esteem as well as supporting future healthcare choices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study investigates the motivations of socially responsible consumption from the perspective of identity-based motivation theory. The findings suggest that personal-identity appeals promote socially responsible products with utilitarian values more effectively than relational-identity appeals. However, with respect to socially responsible products with hedonic values, relational and personal identity had no differential effect. Moreover, public identity appeals were found to promote socially responsible products with utilitarian values significantly. With respect to hedonic products, public identity influenced purchase intention only through anticipated guilt. Authenticity, or being true to oneself, relies on integrating autobiographical memories into a coherent life-story. These autobiographical memories serve three adaptive functions: self-identity, social connection and directing behaviour in the future. But little is known about how memory and the subjective sense of authenticity interact. Using a between-subjects experimental design, we compared memories of authentic and inauthentic moments with controls. Memories of in/authentic events were more likely to use the self function and less likely to use the social function than controls. In addition, we noted a trend for memories of inauthentic events to be more likely than controls to use the directive function. These results highlight the importance of an ecological approach to memory as well as the potential adaptive value of recalling inauthentic experiences in developing a coherent sense of self. Organ transplantation is considered an alternative treatment to save lives or to improve the quality of life and is a successful method for the treatment of patients with end-stage organ diseases. The main objective of the current study was to explore the determinants of the attitudes and willingness to communicate the posthumous organ donation decisions to the families. Questionnaires were used to test the hypothesized relationships. The results confirmed altruism, knowledge, empathy, and self-identity as the antecedents to attitude. We also found perceived behavioral control, moral norms, and attitude as significant antecedents to the willingness to donate organs after death. The results of the study also indicated that those who were willing to sign the donor card were also willing to communicate their decision to their families. Religiosity moderated the relationship between willingness to donate and signing the donor card, and it strengthened the relationship. The findings of this study would provide insight into the factors which can influence posthumous organ donation among university students in Pakistan. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Specifically, the author argues that Philosophical Practice can play a central role in treating clients with Body Dysmorphia, even those who are, or should be, under the care of a clinician. The author describes a case in which a Practitioner uses clinical research on the role of aesthetics in Body Dysmorphia. In this instance, the Practitioner explored with the client both Aesthetic and Ethical ideals to help the client refashion their hierarchy of values and attain a more rewarding sense of meaning and self-identity. The Practitioner guided the client by delving into Walter Benjamin’s aesthetic notion of aura and Aristotle’s ethics to bring them self-realization as they came to see the importance of uniqueness in aesthetic value and the value in Aristotle’s idea of the great-souled person. Background: This review explores the lived experience of people through the lens of their journey with psoriasis. Most of the efforts to understand the impact of psoriasis on a person's life have been quantitative studies focusing on quality of life. There is a need to understand more about what it is like living with psoriasis. This understanding may provide insight into the wellbeing and health priorities of those living with psoriasis and help health professionals provide them with more holistic care. Objective: To explore the lived experiences of adults with psoriasis. Methods: A qualitative meta-synthesis was undertaken using metaethnography. Databases searched included CINAHL, PubMed, MedNar, Gale and Sociology Source. Qualitative studies published in English and reporting primary data analysis including the experiences of people with psoriasis were considered for inclusion. Findings: Nineteen studies were included. Three themes emerged from the synthesis about the lived experience of psoriasis, including the impact on participants' self-identity, wellbeing and culture. Participant voices underline the daily struggles they experience, including how psoriasis is all-consuming, shaping their being, and how people with psoriasis use isolation as a coping mechanism, making themselves and their bodies invisible. Conclusion: Psoriasis affects all aspects of a person's life. The level of understanding a health professional has of what it is like to live with psoriasis underpins and informs their therapeutic approaches and can play a pivotal role in helping a person with psoriasis successfully manage their condition.
