The need to shift to a responsible consumption model, encourage citizen participation, recycling habits, and water conservation, makes it vital to seek innovative ways for environmental education. Therefore, in this study, the serious games Save the Earth Planet ECO Inc. and Eco Ego were implemented in the teaching-learning process of high school students at Unidad Educativa Mariano Benítez, with the aim of promoting sustainable attitudes and behaviors, and raising awareness about environmental management and care. A quantitative, descriptive, and explanatory methodology with a quasi-experimental approach was followed. Before and after the use of these video games, a survey was conducted to measure participants' opinions and perceptions of learning in environmental education. As a result, the application of serious games succeeded in promoting more sustainable attitudes and behaviors towards the environment among the participants, leading to reflective learning, meaningful experiences of reconnection with nature, and the strengthening of their commitment and participation in ecosystem protection. In 2022, the authors presented the first stage of implementing a revised climate control strategy at the National Gallery of Victoria, monitoring collection object response in collaboration with the Getty Conservation Institute using acoustic emissions (AE) monitoring. The research and education, motivating factors, and interdepartmental alignment required for adopting the Bizot Green Protocol (BGP) were discussed, as well as the experimental design and set-up of the AE system on a large Flemish altarpiece in an active gallery. This second and concluding paper presents the results of the AE monitoring study along with energy used by the HVAC system for the gallery housing the AE monitoring study, during the transition from traditional environmental parameters through to broadened parameters as defined in the BGP. The project highlights the importance of understanding individual gallery and building behaviour as well as the HVAC system in place. In the case of the gallery housing the AE study, the implementation of BGP parameters resulted in smaller environmental fluctuations than expected. That HVAC energy efficiency could be improved with a relatively low impact on the gallery environment was an unexpected but welcome outcome. This case study describes some common challenges faced when considering such a change operationally, including resourcing and communication needs. Identifying points of resistance, framing problems clearly, and identifying common goals were essential to making progress. The centuries-old Eravimangalam Subramanyaswamy Temple in the Malappuram district of Kerala, India, is one of many active temples with significant remnants of historical outdoor wall paintings threatened with being rebuilt/replastered with modern materials. As the significance of the site to the local community is the figure of the deity housed within the temple, the shrine's outer structure carrying the historical wall paintings is considered replaceable. This work explores the creation of tools that communities can use in the future to make an informed choice about sustainable conservation of their heritage, and to place some significance on the structure as well as the deity represented. The study uses two main approaches: virtual reconstruction, and the testing of greener formulations for the removal of deposits on outdoor wall paintings. 3D reconstruction and image manipulation were used to create visualizations of a possible finished treatment, and supported by cleaning tests on mock-ups of the wall paintings that reproduce the original materials, techniques, and their present condition. Testing of greener formulations was performed to remove deposits from burning oil lamps, as commonly used in temples in Kerala. The tested products that are derived from natural feedstocks are safer for human beings and will enable the local conservators to work with them without any adverse effects. Strategies of outside air reduction, fan speed adjustments, and temporary system shutdowns can be effective ways to maintain or improve the preservation quality of a collection environment while reducing the financial burden and carbon footprint of a collecting institution. However, current criteria guiding safe implementation of energy-saving strategies focus on temperature and RH alone, which ignores risks posed by pollutants. This research aims to address this by monitoring indoor and outdoor-generated pollutants at four collecting institutions before and during implementing energy-saving strategies. Alongside temperature and RH loggers, continuous pollution monitors were located within the mechanical system and collection spaces. Additionally, energy monitors were installed on the mechanical systems serving the collection spaces to quantify the energy consumption prior to and during operation modifications. Initial results indicate pollutant levels remain stable during the test periods, and did not exceed baseline concentrations. This paper outlines a research project on the use of wood tar as adhesive for architectural stone repairs. Tar was identified as having been used in medieval repair techniques on Stavanger cathedral in Norway, as well as on several other medieval cathedrals in England and Germany. The hypothesis is that a complex adhesive mixture based on wood tar was manufactured and strategically employed by medieval artisans in northern Europe as stone repair material. Given that such repairs have withstood centuries of wear, there must have been extensive material knowledge and awareness of the complex requirements of structural adhesives. These historic tar repairs created the impetus for a research project, the aim of which is to rediscover the lost medieval art of traditional stone repair using wood tar adhesives, recreate the historic adhesive and repurpose it for modern conservation practice. By reintroducing traditional wood tar adhesives based on natural renewable source materials, we could potentially reduce dependence on synthetically manufactured adhesives. Thus, newly-discovered medieval techniques which have successfully lasted centuries will be drawn on to help solve the limited selection of suitable adhesives for stone conservation, contributing to future preservation of stone architecture and the built heritage environment. This paper reviews the process of adapting the Carbon Literacy for Museums Toolkit to develop a course specifically for the archive sector, Carbon Literacy for Archives, Records and Special Collections. This toolkit was launched to the sector in spring 2024. It discusses why carbon literacy (CL) is important, covering the benefits, co-benefits and what CL is. It examines the impact of carbon literacy training (CLT) on greenhouse gas emission and energy use reduction, and why CLT is so effective in generating the transformational behavioural change that is needed to create a sustainable future. This paper explores methods to improve the sustainability of packing artworks, focusing on soft wrapping of framed paintings. In 2022, the UK Museums and Heritage Sustainable Packing Group was formed. The research described in this paper focuses on one aspect of the group's activity: seeking to find materials and methods which reduce environmental burdens and comply with conservation standards for soft wrapping two-dimensional artworks for short journeys between display, storage locations and conservators' studios. The project investigated the physical qualities of recycled content polyethylene (PE), bioplastics and paper-based alternatives, along with common barrier materials such as virgin PE sheet and Bubble Wrap®, to form comparative datasets. Each material's environmental impact, potential for reuse, interaction with artworks and ability to maintain adequate buffering against environmental changes during transport was researched. Alternative methods were also explored to reduce the quantity of sealing tape and promote its reversibility and reuse. The environmental impacts of the materials were assessed by sustainability specialists at the University of Manchester's Sustainable Materials Innovation Hub. Reusable and recycled content films offered the most promising alternatives to the PE wrapping most used at present. The use of a tying method, eliminating the need for adhesive tape, also showed potential for further investigation. The low-cost testing methodology should be refined to better control the variables and allow for more repeatable testing, but these preliminary results will help to refine future research directions. The growing concern about animal welfare has caused consumers to increase interest in sustainable products. Consequently, the beauty industry is increasingly committed to cruelty-free products. The rise of social media and influencers has driven this shift towards ethical and responsible consumption. Platforms such as Instagram have played a relevant role in disseminating messages related to sustainability through these opinion leaders. The research conducted a methodological triangulation to understand how beauty influencers communicate cruelty-free content and how these messages influence their followers. The methodological design includes a content analysis, a survey and in-depth interviews. The study’s findings indicate that beauty influencers’ communicative efforts are limited and do not significantly impact the prescription of cruelty-free products.
