Purpose: The evaluation of treatment success and progression in oncology patient-reported outcomes (PROs) is playing an increasingly important role. Meanwhile, PROs are a component of the certification requirements of the German Cancer Society for oncology centers. PROs are used to provide supportive therapy. There is currently no instrument that fully covers the requirements. At the University Hospital Regensburg (UKR), a digital ONCOlogical-ROUTinE-Screening (ONCO-ROUTES) procedure was developed in order to assess the need for supportive therapy in a standardized way and to provide patients with supportive interventions tailored to their needs. Methods: On the basis of current requirements and guidelines, the development of ONCO-ROUTES was supported by experts in focus groups and interviews, and digitalization was carried out in connection with the IT infrastructure. Results: A Needs-based, Quality-of-life (QoL) and Symptoms Screening (NQS2) tool already established in the routine at the UKR was further developed into ONCO-ROUTES, which is made up of the domains therapy phase, nutrition, tobacco use, alcohol use, quality of life, general condition/functional status, physical activity, psychooncology, social services, and further support needs. By linking the digitized questionnaire to the hospital information system, the results are available for immediate use in routine operations and thus for the referral of patients for further supportive therapy. Conclusion: The digital PRO application ONCO-ROUTES is designed to involve patients in monitoring additional supportive needs and thus, improves supportive interdisciplinary treatment. Protozoa exert a serious global threat of growing concern to human, and animal, and there is a need for the advancement of novel therapeutic strategies to effectively treat or mitigate the impact of associated diseases. Omega polyunsaturated fatty acids (ω-PUFAs), including Omega-3 (ω-3) and omega-6 (ω-6), are constituents derived from various natural sources, have gained significant attention for their therapeutic role in parasitic infections and a variety of essential structural and regulatory functions in animals and humans. Both ω-3 and ω-6 decrease the growth and survival rate of parasites through metabolized anti-inflammatory mediators, such as lipoxins, resolvins, and protectins, and have both in vivo and in vitro protective effects against various protozoan infections. The ω-PUFAs have been shown to modulate the host immune response by a commonly known mechanism such as (inhibition of arachidonic acid (AA) metabolic process, production of anti-inflammatory mediators, modification of intracellular lipids, and activation of the nuclear receptor), and promotion of a shift towards a more effective immune defense against parasitic invaders by regulation the inflammation like prostaglandins, leukotrienes, thromboxane, are involved in controlling the inflammatory reaction. The immune modulation may involve reducing inflammation, enhancing phagocytosis, and suppressing parasitic virulence factors. The unique properties of ω-PUFAs could prevent protozoan infections, representing an important area of study. This review explores the clinical impact of ω-PUFAs against some protozoan infections, elucidating possible mechanisms of action and supportive therapy for preventing various parasitic infections in humans and animals, such as toxoplasmosis, malaria, coccidiosis, and chagas disease. ω-PUFAs show promise as a therapeutic approach for parasitic infections due to their direct anti-parasitic effects and their ability to modulate the host immune response. Additionally, we discuss current treatment options and suggest perspectives for future studies. Purpose: Gemcitabine and nab-paclitaxel (GnP) treatment, the standard first-line chemotherapy for unresectable pancreatic cancer, often causes peripheral neuropathy (PN). To develop alternative dosing strategies to avoid severe PN, understanding the relationship between pharmacokinetics (PK) and pharmacodynamics/toxicodynamics (PD/TD) is necessary. We established a PK-PD/TD model of GnP treatment to develop an optimal dose schedule. Methods: A mouse xenograft model of human pancreatic cancer was generated to measure drug concentrations in the plasma and tumor, antitumor effects, and PN after GnP treatment. The Simeoni tumor growth inhibition model with tumor concentrations and empirical indirect response models were used for the PD and TD models, respectively. Clinical outcomes were predicted with reported population estimates of PK parameters in cancer patients. Results: The PK-PD/TD model simultaneously described the observed tumor volume and paw withdrawal frequency in the von Frey test. For the standard GnP regimen, the model predicted clinical overall response (75.1%), which was overestimated compared to that in a recent phase II study (42.1%) but lower than the observed disease control rate (96.5%). Model simulation showed that dose reduction to less than 40% GnP dose was not effective; a change of dose schedule from every week for 3 weeks to every 2 weeks was a more favorable approach than dose reduction to 60% every week. Conclusion: The PK-PD/TD model-based translational approach provides a guide for optimal dose determination to avoid severe PN while maintaining antitumor effects during GnP chemotherapy. Mastitis is a major health problem for bovines and can be categorized as nonsevere or severe, based on clinical symptoms. A severe case of clinical mastitis is usually defined by the cow being affected systemically. It is important to consider how to handle severe cases because these cases can be fatal and cause high production losses. However, there are generally few detailed treatment guidelines. By conducting a scoping review on the topic, we aimed to synthesize the information that is available on treatment and outcomes, as reported from clinical trials and observational studies. This was facilitated by following the PRISMA-guidelines with a stepwise systematic screening of scientific literature on the subject, retrieved via Pubmed and Web of Science, using pre-defined selection criteria. The results yielded a total of 14 reports of treatment and outcomes in cases of naturally occurring severe clinical mastitis. Cross-trial comparison was difficult due to the different exclusion criteria and outcome definitions. Many studies focused on cases caused by gram-negative bacteria treated with intensive antibiotic protocols, often containing antibiotics that are categorized as critical for human health. Few focused on severe cases caused by gram-positive bacteria or on the relative use of non-antibiotic treatment. In general, only a small number of statistically significant differences were found in trials comparing different treatment protocols, with no obvious trends across trials. Our findings emphasize the need for more research into the treatment efficacy of antibiotic and non-antibiotic options for clinically severe mastitis. Furthermore, consideration of how trial conditions relate to the practical circumstances in a field setting could improve the applicability of reported results. The time to administration of broad-spectrum antibiotics and (secondarily) to the initiation of hemodynamic stabilization are the most important factors influencing survival of patients with sepsis and septic shock; however, the basic prerequisite for the initiation of an adequate treatment is that a suspected diagnosis of sepsis is made first. Therefore, the treatment of sepsis, even before it has begun, is an interdisciplinary and interprofessional task. This article provides an overview of the current state of the art in sepsis treatment and points towards new evidence that has the potential to change guideline recommendations in the coming years. In summary, the following points are critical: (1) sepsis must be diagnosed as soon as possible and the implementation of a source control intervention (in case of a controllable source) has to be implemented as soon as (logistically) possible. (2) In general, intravenous broad-spectrum antibiotics should be given within the first hour after diagnosis if sepsis or septic shock is suspected. In organ dysfunction without shock, where sepsis is a possible but unlikely cause, the results of focused advanced diagnostics should be awaited before a decision to give broad-spectrum antibiotics is made. If it is not clear within 3 h whether sepsis is the cause, broad-spectrum antibiotics should be given when in doubt. Administer beta-lactam antibiotics as a prolonged (or if therapeutic drug monitoring is available, continuous) infusion after an initial loading dose. (3) Combination treatment with two agents for one pathogen group should remain the exception (e.g. multidrug-resistant gram-negative pathogens). (4) In the case of doubt, the duration of anti-infective treatment should rather be shorter than longer. Procalcitonin can support the clinical decision to stop (not to start!) antibiotic treatment! (5) For fluid treatment, if hypoperfusion is present, the first (approximately) 2L (30 ml/kg BW) of crystalloid solution is usually safe and indicated. After that, the rule is: less is more! Introduction: Borderline personality disorder is a type of mental health problem, which affects the patient’s way of thinking and feeling about oneself and others and causes problems in daily functioning. Aim: This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of individual schema therapy, with and without supportive therapy, in alleviating the symptoms of patients with borderline personality disorder. Method: This empirical semi-experimental study, with a pretest-posttest control group design, was conducted on a statistical population, consisting of all patients with borderline personality disorder, referred to Quds Hospital of Sanandaj, Iran, during 2020-2021. Via convenience sampling, 45 patients were selected and divided into three groups of 15 people. Weaver and Clum’s Borderline Personality Disorder Severity Index (1993) was used for data collection. To analyze the data, multivariate analysis of variance and t-test were performed in SPSS Version 22. Results: The results showed a significant difference in the symptoms of borderline personality disorder between the two groups (P≤0.01). Also, pretest-posttest comparisons indicated that the mean score of borderline personality disorder symptoms decreased by 0.97 in the individual schema therapy group without supportive treatment and by 1.12 in the individual schema therapy group with supportive therapy. Conclusion: Since there was a significant difference between individual schema therapy, with and without supportive therapy, in alleviating the symptoms of patients with borderline personality disorder, it is recommended to implement individual schema therapy, along with supportive therapy for the treatment of this disorder.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), the severest form of muscular dystrophy, is characterized by progressive muscle weakness with fatal outcomes most often before the fourth decade of life. Despite the recent addition of molecular treatments, DMD remains a disease without a cure, and the need persists for the development of supportive therapies aiming to help improve patients' quality of life. This review focuses on the therapeutical potential of amino acid and derivative supplements, summarizing results obtained in preclinical studies in murine disease models. Several promising compounds have emerged, with L-arginine, N-acetylcysteine, and taurine featuring among the most intensively investigated. Their beneficial effects include reduced inflammatory, oxidative, fibrotic, and necrotic damage to skeletal muscle tissues. Improvement of muscle strength and endurance have been reported; however, mild side effects have also surfaced. More explorative, placebo-controlled and long-term clinical trials would need to be conducted in order to identify amino acid formulae that are safe and of true benefit to DMD patients. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a rapidly progressive neurodegenerative disorder affecting upper and lower motor neurons, with death resulting mainly from respiratory failure three to five years after symptom onset. As the exact underlying causative pathological pathway is unclear and potentially diverse, finding a suitable therapy to slow down or possibly stop disease progression remains challenging. Varying by country Riluzole, Edaravone, and Sodium phenylbutyrate/Taurursodiol are the only drugs currently approved in ALS treatment for their moderate effect on disease progression. Even though curative treatment options, able to prevent or stop disease progression, are still unknown, recent breakthroughs, especially in the field of targeting genetic disease forms, raise hope for improved care and therapy for ALS patients. In this review, we aim to summarize the current state of ALS therapy, including medication as well as supportive therapy, and discuss the ongoing developments and prospects in the field. Furthermore, we highlight the rationale behind the intense research on biomarkers and genetic testing as a feasible way to improve the classification of ALS patients towards personalized medicine. BACKGROUND: Based on the increasing spread of chronic diseases and their destructive role, a borderline personality disorder is the most common personality disorder in the group of chronic mental diseases. This research aims to compare the effectiveness of family-centered schema therapy, with and without supportive therapy. It was done to reduce the symptoms of patients with borderline personality disorder. METHODS: This semi-experimental research was conducted with a pre-test/post-test design. 30 people were selected by census method based on the research inclusion criteria from among all patients with a definite diagnosis of borderline personality disorder at Quds Hospital in Sanandaj, Kurdistan, Iran, in the spring of 2021. They were randomly divided into intervention and control groups, and the intervention group received 12 hours of family-oriented intervention and supportive therapy in a group manner in 8 sessions. The data collected through the Borderline Personality Disorder Severity Index (BPDSI) were analyzed by comparing the amount of borderline personality disorder in the research units before and after the intervention using SPSS statistical software. RESULTS: The average symptoms of borderline personality disorder in supportive therapy and family-centered schema therapy were equal to 13.64 and 11.00, respectively, before the group intervention and 11.24 and 7.92, after the intervention. CONCLUSION: The combined treatment of family-centered schema therapy with therapeutic support has caused more reduction in the symptoms of borderline personality disorder than the family-centered therapy without therapeutic support; therefore, it is suggested that the combined mode of family-centered schema therapy and therapeutic support should be prioritized in therapeutic interventions.

Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) accounts for approximately 24% of new cases of B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma in the US each year. Up to 50% of patients relapse or are refractory (R/R) to the standard first-line treatment option, R-CHOP. The anti-CD19 monoclonal antibody tafasitamab, in combination with lenalidomide (LEN), is an NCCN preferred regimen for transplant-ineligible patients with R/R DLBCL and received accelerated approval in the US (July 2020) and conditional marketing authorization in Europe (August 2021) and other countries, based on data from the L-MIND study. The recommended dose of tafasitamab is 12 mg/kg by intravenous infusion, administered in combination with LEN 25 mg for 12 cycles, followed by tafasitamab monotherapy until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity. Tafasitamab + LEN is associated with durable responses in patients with R/R DLBCL. The majority of clinically significant treatment-associated adverse events are attributable to LEN and can be managed with dose modification and supportive therapy. We provide guidelines for the management of patients with R/R DLBCL treated with tafasitamab and LEN in routine clinical practice, including elderly patients and those with renal and hepatic impairment, and advice regarding patient education as part of a comprehensive patient engagement plan. Our recommendations include LEN administration at a reduced dose if required in patients unable to tolerate the recommended dose. Background: Most individuals affected by cancer who are treated with certain chemotherapies suffer of CIPN. Therefore, there is a high patient and provider interest in complementary non-pharmacological therapies, but its evidence base has not yet been clearly pointed out in the context of CIPN. Methods: The results of a scoping review overviewing the published clinical evidence on the application of complementary therapies for improving the complex CIPN symptomatology are synthesized with the recommendations of an expert consensus process aiming to draw attention to supportive strategies for CIPN. The scoping review, registered at PROSPERO 2020 (CRD 42020165851), followed the PRISMA-ScR and JBI guidelines. Relevant studies published in Pubmed/MEDLINE, PsycINFO, PEDro, Cochrane CENTRAL, and CINAHL between 2000 and 2021 were included. CASP was used to evaluate the methodologic quality of the studies. Results: Seventy-five studies with mixed study quality met the inclusion criteria. Manipulative therapies (including massage, reflexology, therapeutic touch), rhythmical embrocations, movement and mind–body therapies, acupuncture/acupressure, and TENS/Scrambler therapy were the most frequently analyzed in research and may be effective treatment options for CIPN. The expert panel approved 17 supportive interventions, most of them were phytotherapeutic interventions including external applications and cryotherapy, hydrotherapy, and tactile stimulation. More than two-thirds of the consented interventions were rated with moderate to high perceived clinical effectiveness in therapeutic use. Conclusions: The evidence of both the review and the expert panel supports a variety of complementary procedures regarding the supportive treatment of CIPN; however, the application on patients should be individually weighed in each case. Based on this meta-synthesis, interprofessional healthcare teams may open up a dialogue with patients interested in non-pharmacological treatment options to tailor complementary counselling and treatments to their needs. Background: Aromatherapy — the therapeutic use of essential oils from plants (flowers, herbs or trees) to treat ill health and promote physical, emotional and spiritual well-being — is one of the most widely used natural therapies reported by consumers in Western countries. The Australian Government Department of Health (via the National Health and Medical Research Council) has commissioned a suite of independent evidence evaluations to inform the 2019-20 Review of the Australian Government Rebate on Private Health Insurance for Natural Therapies. This protocol is for one of the evaluations: a systematic review that aims to examine the effectiveness of aromatherapy in preventing and/or treating injury, disease, medical conditions or preclinical conditions. Methods: Eligibility criteria: randomised trials comparing (1) aromatherapy (delivered by any mode) to no aromatherapy (inactive controls), (2) aromatherapy (delivered by massage) to massage alone or (3) aromatherapy to ‘gold standard’ treatments. Populations: any condition, pre-condition, injury or risk factor (excluding healthy participants without clearly identified risk factors). Outcomes: any for which aromatherapy is indicated. Searches: Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), with a supplementary search of PubMed (covering a 6-month lag period for processing records in CENTRAL and records not indexed in MEDLINE), AMED and Emcare. No date, language or geographic limitations will be applied. Data and analysis: screening by two authors, independently (records indexed by Aromatherapy or Oils volatile or aromatherapy in title; all full text) or one author (remaining records) with second author until 80% agreement. Data extraction and risk of bias assessment (ROB 2.0) will be piloted by three authors, then completed by a single author and checked by a second. Comparisons will be based on broad outcome categories (e.g. pain, emotional functioning, sleep disruption) stratified by population subgroups (e.g. chronic pain conditions, cancer, dementia) as defined in the analytic framework for the review. Meta-analysis or other synthesis methods will be used to combine results across studies. GRADE methods will be used to assess certainty of evidence and summarise findings. Discussion: Results of the systematic review will provide a comprehensive and up-to-date synthesis of evidence about the effectiveness of aromatherapy. Purpose: Data indicate that the use of prophylactic granulocyte colony-stimulating factors (G-CSFs) for chemotherapy-induced febrile neutropenia (FN) in routine practice is not consistent with guideline recommendations. The initiative "supportive care for febrile neutropenia prevention and appropriateness of G-CFS use" was undertaken to address the issue of inappropriate prescription of G-CSFs and to improve guideline adherence in the treatment of FN. Methods: In a two-round Delphi procedure, 36 medical oncologists reviewed clinically relevant recommendations on risk assessment, the appropriate use of G-CSFs, and the prevention of FN based on available literature and individual clinical expertise. Results: The consensus was reached on 16 out of 38 recommendations, which are backed by evidence from randomised clinical trials and routine clinical practice. The medical oncologists agreed that the severity of neutropenia depends on patients' characteristics and chemotherapy intensity, and therefore, the risk of severe neutropenia or FN should be assessed at each chemotherapy cycle so as to initiate prophylaxis with G-CSFs if required. The use of biosimilar G-CSFs, with similar efficacy and safety profiles to the originator biologic, has improved the availability and sustainability of cancer care. The timing of supportive therapy is crucial; for example, long-acting G-CSF should be administered 24–72 h after chemotherapy administration. Each biological agent has a recommended administration dose and duration, and it is important to follow these recommendations to avoid complications associated with under-prophylaxis. The vulnerable adolescent population frequently struggle with psychoactive inhalant abuse, having experimented with inhalant at some time during early childhood. Inhalant abuse is more prevalent among youth, especially from socially and economically backward communities, presenting with episodic waxing and waning course. Inhalant use can result in physical and mental health issues namely, addiction to other substances, depression, memory disturbances, psychosis, suicidal thoughts, decreased learning, and physical conditions such as anemia, cardiac, pulmonary, and renal issues. This case series aims to raise awareness among the general public and medical professionals about the growing problem of inhalant addiction and the need for treatment in North Karnataka.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can develop after stroke attacks, and its rate ranges from 4 to 37% in the stroke population. Suffering from PTSD not only decreases stroke patient’s quality of life, but also relates to their non-adherence of treatment. Since strokes often recur and progress, long-term medical management is especially important. However, previous studies generally focused on the epidemiological characteristics of poststroke PTSD, while there are literally no studies on the psychological intervention. In our study, 170 patients with a first-ever stroke during the acute phase were recruited. They were randomized into Psycho-therapy group 1 and Control group 1, and were administered with preventive intervention for PTSD or routine health education, respectively. At 2-month follow-up, PTSD symptoms were evaluated. Participants who were diagnosed with post-stroke PTSD were further randomized into Psycho-therapy group 2 and Control group 2, and received supportive therapy or routine health counseling, respectively. At 6-month follow-up (1◦month after the therapy was completed), PTSD symptoms were re-evaluated. Our results showed that at 2-month, the PTSD incidence in our series was 11.69%, and the severity of stroke was the only risk factor for PTSD development. The preventive intervention was not superior to routine health education for PTSD prevention. At 6-month, results indicated the supportive therapy did have a fine effect in ameliorating symptoms for diagnosed PTSD patients, superior to routine health counseling. Thus, our study was the first to provide evidence that the supportive therapy was effective in treating post-stroke PTSD early after its diagnosis. Fucoidans are natural sulfated polysaccharides that have a wide range of biological functions and are regarded as promising antitumor agents. The activity of various fucoidans and their derivatives has been demonstrated in vitro on tumor cells of different histogenesis and in experiments on mice with grafted tumors. However, these experimental models showed low levels of antitumor activity and clinical trials did not prove that this class of compounds could serve as antitumor drugs. Nevertheless, the anti-inflammatory, antiangiogenic, immunostimulating, and anticoagulant properties of fucoidans, as well as their ability to stimulate hematopoiesis during cytostatic-based antitumor therapy, suggest that effective fucoidan-based drugs could be designed for the supportive care and symptomatic therapy of cancer patients. The use of fucoidans in cancer patients after chemotherapy and radiation therapy might promote the rapid improvement of hematopoiesis, while their anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and anticoagulant effects have the potential to improve the quality of life of patients with advanced cancer. Purpose: As part of the German interdisciplinary S3-guideline "Diagnosis, Treatment and Followup of Renal Cell Carcinoma", this article aimes to provide guidance regarding the use of supportive therapy and complementary medicine in patients with advanced or metastatic renal cell carcinoma. Methods: The German interdisciplinary S3-guidelines are national clinical practice guidelines that implement the highest methodological quality of evidence-based medicine. Recommendations and evidence-based statements are provided according to available evidence. Results: Supportive and palliative care are important areas of tumor treatment and require knowledge on the management of a variety of issues. This article outlines the management of tumor-related symptoms such as pain, undesired treatment-related effects, palliative care and end-of-life care in patients with renal cell carcinoma. Conclusion: Patients with advanced or metastatic renal cell carcinoma should have access to supportive and palliative care according to their individual needs. Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS/PCOD) is a common endocrine disorder that had been identified among Women of the reproductive age group. Clinical symptoms are excess androgen, polycystic ovaries and ovarian disorder. It disrupts the Emotional and Social Well-being of these women. The complications include anxiety, depression, other mood disturbances and also undermining their social well-being. Emotional and Social functioning are affected at a greater rate in comparison to physical functioning areas in PCOS women. The aim of the research was to study the Effectiveness of Benson Relaxation Therapy and Supportive Therapy on Emotional and Social Well-being among PCOS Women. Before-After-Follow up Experimental Design was followed. 100 PCOS women were selected using Purposive sampling method. The results were analysed by SPSS 21st version using Descriptive statistics, Repeated Measures of Analysis of Variance and Bonferroni Post-hoc test. The results indicated that Emotional and Social well-being were enhanced by the Intervention. This depicts the effectiveness of Benson relaxation therapy and Supportive Therapy on Emotional and Social Well-being among PCOS women. The intervention applied had reduced psychological symptoms of Emotional and Social Well-being which might support the Gynecologist in treating the clinical symptoms among PCOS women. This research concludes that clinical features of PCOS affect the Emotional and Social Well-being women with PCOS, and the application of the Intervention would be fruitful in enhancing their physical and mental health. Survival of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia has significantly improved over the past decades. In the early years of chemotherapeutic development, improvement in survival rates could be attained only by increasing the cytostatic dose, also by modulation of the frequency and combination of chemotherapeutic agents associated with severe short- and long-time side-effects and toxicity in a developing child's organism. Years later, new treatment options have yielded promising results through targeted immune and molecular drugs, especially in relapsed and refractory leukemia, and are continuously added to conventional therapy or even replace first-line treatment. Compared to conventional strategies, these new therapies have different side-effects, requiring special supportive measures. Supportive treatment includes the prevention of serious acute and sometimes life-threatening events as well as managing therapy-related long-term side-effects and preemptive treatment of complications and is thus mandatory for successful oncological therapy. Inadequate supportive therapy is still one of the main causes of treatment failure, mortality, poor quality of life, and unsatisfactory long-term outcome in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. But nowadays it is a challenge to find a way through the flood of supportive recommendations and guidelines that are available in the literature. Furthermore, the development of new therapies for childhood leukemia has changed the range of supportive methods and must be observed in addition to conventional recommendations. This review aims to provide a clear and recent compilation of the most important supportive methods in the field of childhood leukemia, based on conventional regimes as well as the most promising new therapeutic approaches to date.

This intervention used art and supportive therapy to relieve depressive symptoms in a woman victim of sexual violence. The art therapy utilized a creative process to help the participant explore herself through drawing as a medium emphasizing freedom in communication, so it was expected that it would help her cope with problems. The supportive therapy aimed to provide encouragement and efficacy for the participant so she could develop insight. The participant in this report was one female victim of sexual violence who had symptoms of depression. The measuring instrument used to determine the participant’s level of depression was the Beck Depression Invetory-II (BDI-II). Then, the effectiveness of the intervention was evaluated using a qualitative descriptive analysis highlighting some changes from before to after the intervention. Introduction: Self-care deficit is a nursing diagnosis in which the client experiences an inability to independently perform personal hygiene, dress, eat and defecate. Therefore, interventions are needed to address clients with self-care deficits. One of the interventions carried out is supportive therapy and token economy using the Peplau interpersonal nursing model approach. The purpose of this study was to analyse the effectiveness of supportive therapy and token economy in reducing signs and symptoms of self-care deficits based on the Peplau interpersonal nursing model. Methods: The research design was a quasi-experimental study using a two group pre-post design. The sample in this study amounted to 40 respondents, 20 intervention groups, and 20 control groups according to the research criteria. This research was conducted in July-August 2021. The sampling technique was carried out by purposive sampling. The data was analysed by univariate and bivariate with a t-dependent test. Results: The results of the study showed that there was an increase in self-care before and after being given supportive therapy and economic tokens in the intervention group with a value before 133.60 to 140.05. A statistical test obtained p-value = 0.000 which means that there is an effect of supportive therapy and economic tokens in reducing signs of symptoms Of self-care deficit. The results obtained in the control group after being given supportive therapy with values before 128.85 to 138.55 and statistical tests obtained pvalue = 0.041, meaning that there is an effect of supportive therapy in reducing symptoms of self-care deficits. Conclusion: There is an effect of supportive therapy and token economy on improving self-care in self-care deficit clients. Mental disorders are behavioral or psychological patterns shown by individuals that cause distress, dysfunction; reduce the quality of life which becomes a psychosocial problem. Psychosocial problems that result in social changes in society can cause mental disorders. The prevalence of adolescents in Indonesia experiencing psychosocial problems is 8.7%. In West Sumatra Province, the population is 5.48 million with a number of teenagers around 511.8 people. Of these, one in five adolescents has psychosocial problems that require adequate and special treatment. The solution to this problem is by providing supportive therapy which aims to help deal with mental health problems that exist in the community. This activity was carried out on February 3, 2021 with a total of 20 teenagers. The results of the evaluation show that there is a change in anxiety in adolescents. Suggestions for the health center are to monitor the results of this education.

The diagnosis and treatment of cancer are associated with impairment at the physical and at psychological level. In addition, side effects are a potentially treatment-limiting factor that may necessitate dose reduction, delay, or even discontinuation of therapy, with negative consequences for outcome and mean survival. Numerous studies have shown that physical activity and sports and exercise therapy programs are not only practicable but also recommendable for oncologic patients during the acute phase and in the aftercare. Furthermore, nutrition plays an important role in all stages of tumor therapy. A timely integration of a nutrition therapy and physical activity in the form of physiotherapy and sports therapy serves to prevent and reduce treatment-associated side effects. Evidence-based recommendations on cancer prevention through nutrition therapy, physical activity, and sports and exercise therapy should be integrated into treatment plans for oncology patients as well as in health care services for the general population. Individual counselling by trained nutrition and exercise specialists may be advisable to receive concrete recommendations on the respective tumor entity or specific side effects. This mini review is based on a selective literature search in the PubMed database and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials on the subjects of healthy diet and physical activity in primary prevention and follow-up about cancer. Oral care is defined in a narrow sense as cleaning of the teeth, oral cavity, and dentures, and in a broad sense as the maintenance of oral functions (feeding, swallowing, chewing, speech, aesthetics, etc.), dental treatment, feeding and swallowing training, and articulation training. In the past, it was recognized as simply cleaning the mouth, but the concept of oral care has gradually expanded, and many studies and surveys have been conducted in cooperation with various other professions. As a result, oral health care is involved not only in the prevention of pneumonia, but also in the onset and suppression for severity of diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, some malignant tumors, cerebrovascular diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, dementia, etc. It is also a powerful supportive therapy in cancer treatment. In the terminal stages of life, oral health care can help people to maintain their dignity by continuing to consume food orally until the end of their lives, and in times of disaster, oral health care has been found to be as important as attention to deep vein thrombosis. It has also been found to be effective in preventing severe diseases such as COVID-19. And, although it has not been discussed much, it has been found to have medical and economic benefits such as reducing the duration of hospitalization and treatment costs. An individual with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and poor insight has a significant impact on the person, thinking clearly about his obsessive thought and compulsive behavior. Cognitive-behavior therapy is an evidence-based therapy for the treatment of OCD patients. However, the need felt to incorporate other therapeutic approaches such as supportive, mindfulness-based therapy to treat OCD. This case study tried to discuss the efficacy of a holistic intervention approach in an individual with OCD who had poor insight. The result showed that the holistic approach decreased distress, intrusive thought and reassurance-seeking behavior and improved his insight. At the end of the psychotherapy session, the Y-BOCS score decreased to 15.

BACKGROUND: The oral ingestion of elemental mercury is unlikely to cause systemic toxicity, as it is poorly absorbed through the gastrointestinal system. However, abnormal gastrointestinal function or anatomy may allow elemental mercury into the bloodstream and the peritoneal space. Systemic effects of massive oral intake of mercury have rarely been reported. CASE REPORT: In this paper, we are presenting the highest single oral intake of elemental mercury by a child aged 3 years. A Libyan boy aged 3 years ingested approximately 750 grams of elemental mercury and was still asymptomatic. Abstract Background Major depressive disorder represents (MDD) a major cause of disability and disease burden. Beside antidepressant medication, psychotherapy is a key approach of treatment. Schema therapy has been shown to be effective in the treatment of psychiatric disorders, especially personality disorders, in a variety of settings and patient groups. Nevertheless, there is no evidence on its effectiveness for MDD in an inpatient nor day clinic setting and little is known about the factors that drive treatment response in such a target group. Methods In the current protocol, we outline OPTIMA (OPtimized Treatment Identification at the MAx Planck Institute): a single-center randomized controlled trial of schema therapy as a treatment approach for MDD in an inpatient and day clinic setting. Over the course of 7 weeks, we compare schema therapy with cognitive behavioral therapy and individual supportive therapy, conducted in individual and group sessions and with no restrictions regarding concurrent antidepressant medication, thus approximating real-life treatment conditions. N = 300 depressed patients are included. All study therapists undergo a specific training and supervision and therapy adherence is assessed. Primary outcome is depressive symptom severity as self-assessment (Beck Depression Inventory-II) and secondary outcomes are clinical ratings of MDD (Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale), recovery rates after 7 weeks according to the Munich-Composite International Diagnostic Interview, general psychopathology (Brief Symptom Inventory), global functioning (World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule), and clinical parameters such as dropout rates. Further parameters on a behavioral, cognitive, psychophysiological, and biological level are measured before, during and after treatment and in 2 follow-up assessments after 6 and 24 months after end of treatment. Discussion To our knowledge, the OPTIMA-Trial is the first to investigate the effectiveness of schema therapy as a treatment approach of MDD, to investigate mechanisms of change, and explore predictors of treatment response in an inpatient and day clinic setting by using such a wide range of parameters. Insights from OPTIMA will allow more integrative approaches of psychotherapy of MDD. Especially, the identification of intervention-specific markers of treatment response can improve evidence-based clinical decision for individualizing treatment. Introduction: Supportive therapy is considered an important element in the treatment of cancer patients which is often associated with efforts to overcome life-threatening problems. However, the application of this intervention in clinical practice has not yet been fully carried out. This systematic review summarizes the evidence regarding the effect of supportive therapy in improving the quality of life (QoL) of cancer patients. Methods: The review was performed according to PRISMA guidelines. We searched four electronic databases to identify studies comparing patients who received specific protocol interventions with the control group. The keywords used are "Supportive Therapy" AND "Palliative Supportive Care" AND "Quality of Life" OR "Health Quality" OR "Health-Related Quality of Life". Results: In the study, the average quality of life assessment was carried out at 12 weeks and six months after the intervention. Seven7 of the 15 studies used QLQ-C30 to measure the quality of life of patients with cancer, which was managed to validate and assess the quality of life in patients with cancer, whereas of the 15 studies evaluating results reported, patients reported differences in favor of the intervention group. Conclusion: The overall methodology quality is good. Several comparative studies have evaluated the impact of supportive therapy on the quality of life of cancer patients. The quality of this study is good and the results are acceptable in improving the quality of life of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment, and palliative care.

Abstract Background Cancer patients often receive multiple drugs to maximize their therapeutic benefit, treat co-morbidities and counter the adverse effects of chemotherapy. Concomitant administration of multiple drugs increases the risk of drug interactions leading to compromised therapeutic efficacy or safety of therapy. The purpose of this study was to identify the prevalence, levels and predictors of potential drug-drug interactions (pDDIs) among cancer patients. Methods Six hundred and 78 patients receiving chemotherapy from two tertiary care hospitals were included in this cross-sectional study. Patient medication profiles were screened for pDDIs using the Micromedex® database. Logistic regression analysis was performed to identify the predictors of pDDIs. Results The overall prevalence of pDDIs was 78%, majority of patients had 1–2 pDDIs (39.2%). A total of 1843 pDDIs were detected. Major-pDDIs were most frequent (67.3%) whereas, a significant association of pDDIs was found between > 7 all prescribed drugs (p 7 any types of drugs or ≥ 3 anticancer drugs. Moreover, list of most frequently identified major and moderate interactions will aid health care professional in timely identification and prevention of pDDIs.

Parkinson’s disease is a common progressive neurodegenerative disease. Apart from pharmacological treatment, nonpharmacological management in the form of rehabilitation, counselling, and supportive care is an equally important therapeutic pillar. A MEDLINE search strategy using the following terms (1998–2019) was adopted for this review. Limits of “Human” and “English” were applied. Search terms included “Parkinson’s Disease” AND “rehabilitation,” “physical therapy,” “exercise therapy,” “physiotherapy,” and “dance.” Review articles, practice parameters, guidelines, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, randomized controlled trials, and cohort studies were included. Rehabilitation strategies in the management of Parkinson’s disease form a vital component of therapy. There is mounting evidence to support physical therapy in these patients. Rehabilitation should be offered to these patients right from the start to encourage an active lifestyle and to improve quality of life.

Background: Most individuals affected by cancer who are treated with certain chemotherapies suffer of CIPN. Therefore, there is a high patient and provider interest in complementary non-pharmacological therapies, but its evidence base has not yet been clearly pointed out in the context of CIPN. Methods: The results of a scoping review overviewing the published clinical evidence on the application of complementary therapies for improving the complex CIPN symptomatology are synthesized with the recommendations of an expert consensus process aiming to draw attention to supportive strategies for CIPN. The scoping review, registered at PROSPERO 2020 (CRD 42020165851), followed the PRISMA-ScR and JBI guidelines. Relevant studies published in Pubmed/MEDLINE, PsycINFO, PEDro, Cochrane CENTRAL, and CINAHL between 2000 and 2021 were included. CASP was used to evaluate the methodologic quality of the studies. Results: Seventy-five studies with mixed study quality met the inclusion criteria. Manipulative therapies (including massage, reflexology, therapeutic touch), rhythmical embrocations, movement and mind–body therapies, acupuncture/acupressure, and TENS/Scrambler therapy were the most frequently analyzed in research and may be effective treatment options for CIPN. The expert panel approved 17 supportive interventions, most of them were phytotherapeutic interventions including external applications and cryotherapy, hydrotherapy, and tactile stimulation. More than two-thirds of the consented interventions were rated with moderate to high perceived clinical effectiveness in therapeutic use. Conclusions: The evidence of both the review and the expert panel supports a variety of complementary procedures regarding the supportive treatment of CIPN; however, the application on patients should be individually weighed in each case. Based on this meta-synthesis, interprofessional healthcare teams may open up a dialogue with patients interested in non-pharmacological treatment options to tailor complementary counselling and treatments to their needs.

Aim: Supportive therapy is key to prevent disease recurrence after peri-implantitis treatment. The primary objective was to quantify disease recurrence during supportive peri-implant therapy (SPIT) after peri-implantitis treatment. A secondary objective was to assess the success/failure of cumulative interceptive supportive therapy (CIST) after peri-implantitis treatment., Methods: Compliers (whether regular or erratic) with SPIT after peri-implantitis treatment during ≥12 months were retrospectively evaluated. CIST was prescribed whenever residual pockets ≥6 mm concomitant with profuse bleeding on probing (disease recurrence) were identified. Patient- and implant-related factors were analyzed to explore their associations with disease recurrence and the need for CIST., Results: Disease recurrence was considered in 28 patients (40 implants). Of these, 14 patients (23 implants) further demonstrated radiographic evidence of progressive bone loss (≥1 mm). This represented an overall disease recurrence following peri-implantitis treatment of ~20% and ~ 10% at patient and implant levels, respectively. Smokers, patients diagnosed at baseline with periodontitis grade C, and males were significantly more prone to exhibit recurrence. Patients undergoing CIST due to instability were not likely to respond favorably (~70% continued to exhibit residual pockets)., Conclusion: Disease recurrence during SPIT following peri-implantitis treatment on selected cases is ~20%. IgA nephropathy (IgAN) is the most common type of glomerulonephritis in Asia and the Western world. In most patients, it follows an asymptomatic to oligosymptomatic course and GFR loss, if any, is slow. The mainstay of therapy therefore is optimized supportive care, i.e., measures that lower blood pressure, reduce proteinuria, minimize lifestyle risk factors, and otherwise help to reduce non-specific insults to the kidneys. The value of immunosuppression has become controversial and if at all, systemic high-dose corticosteroid therapy should be considered for a few months taking into account patient characteristics that would caution against or preclude such therapy. In addition, adverse events related to corticosteroid therapy markedly increase as GFR declines. Beyond corticosteroids, there is little evidence that any additional immunosuppression is helpful, with the exception of mycophenolate mofetil in patients of Asian descent. A considerable number of clinical trials ranging from enteric coated budesonide to blockade of B-cell function to complement inhibitors are currently ongoing and will hopefully allow a more targeted therapy of high-risk patients with progressive IgAN in the future. BACKGROUND: Immune checkpoint inhibitors upregulate the immune system but can cause immune-related adverse events (irAEs), which may result in treatment delays or discontinuations. Concurrent vaccination is a theoretical risk factor for the increased incidence of irAEs. The use of immunotherapy with inactivated influenza vaccines shows mixed safety data; few published reports involve vaccines beyond the influenza vaccine. OBJECTIVE: To compare the incidence rate of irAEs that require therapeutic intervention in vaccinated patients versus a matched cohort of unvaccinated patients. METHODS: This retrospective, single-center chart review included patients who did and patients who did not receive an inactivated vaccine 30 days before or 60 days after the administration of immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy between January 1, 2015, and July 31, 2019. The vaccinated patients were matched based on age and type of immune checkpoint inhibitor in a 1:2 ratio with patients who were not vaccinated. RESULTS: The study included a total of 213 patients--71 patients in the vaccinated cohort and 142 patients in the unvaccinated cohort. There was no significant difference in the incidence rate of irAEs requiring intervention between the vaccinated and unvaccinated cohorts (22.5% vs 26.8%, respectively; P = .658). There were also no significant differences in treatment delays because of irAEs (11.3% vs 9.2%, respectively; P = .626) or in treatment discontinuations resulting from irAEs (11.3% vs 9.9%, respectively; P = .75). The most common vaccines administered were inactivated influenza vaccines (N = 48), pneumococcal vaccines (PCV13, N = 8; PPSV23, N = 19), and Tdap (N = 8). In all, 49 patients with irAEs required supportive therapy. The most common irAEs were pneumonitis (N = 16) and rash (N = 13). All patients requiring supportive therapy received corticosteroids. CONCLUSION: The results of this study demonstrate that the concurrent administration of inactivated vaccines during immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy does not increase the incidence of irAEs or cause treatment delays and discontinuations.
