Nanostructures possessing plasmonic and magnetic properties can enhance the transverse magneto-optical Kerr effect (TMOKE) by exciting surface plasmon resonances (SPRs). This provides a promising platform for magneto-optical SPR sensors with significantly improved sensing performance. Here, we propose a high-performance magneto-optical SPR sensor, which consists of a bilayer Au/Co grating placed on a gold film. By tuning the structural parameters, a Fano-like TMOKE spectrum with a linewidth of only 0.0135 nm and an amplitude approaching the theoretical maximum is obtained. We attribute the optimal TMOKE signal achieved by the sensor to the critical coupling concept which is associated with the trade-off between scattering and intrinsic decay rates of the system. The optimized nanostructure sensor demonstrates a sensitivity of 1432 nm/RIU to refractive index fluctuations as small as 0.0001 in air, and all figures of merit (FOM) up to 105 RIU−1, making it suitable for gas sensor fabrication. In 3D-deposited AgNW/TiO2, which is prepared by spray-applying titanium dioxide suspension to deposited silver nanowire sheets, the synergistic effects of increased crossing points of AgNWs to enhance localized surface plasmon resonance excitation and longer-lived electrons in the conduction band of TiO2 generated by plasmon-induced charge transfer have successfully resulted in photocatalytic activity in the visible light range. We have developed photocatalytic sheets in which TiO2 particles are uniformly attached to 3D-deposited AgNWs. Regarding the prepared sheet, it was confirmed that TiO2 was indeed well adhered to the AgNWs, and electron transfer was efficient at the interface. This sheet solves the problem that the response wavelength range of the photocatalytic reaction using TiO2 is only in the ultraviolet region and exhibits sufficient photocatalytic effect in the visible light region. Transient absorption spectroscopy measurements in the diffuse reflectance configuration confirmed that the electrons of AgNWs actually move into the conduction band of TiO2 under visible light and that the interaction is independent of the excitation light intensity, thereby extending the lifetime of the electrons. Hyperbolic metasurfaces exhibit unique dispersion and polarization properties, making them a promising platform for a plethora of photonic applications. At the same time, the ability to engineer the hyperbolicity via the predefined spectral positions of the metasurface resonances remains a notable challenge. Here, we analyze the dependencies of the spectral positions of the resonances corresponding to the limits of the hyperbolic regime for the metasurfaces based on square arrays of the rectangular nanopatches. We show that the spectral difference between the resonances increases linearly with stretching of the nanopatch, but this dependence becomes quadratic when the length of the stretched nanopatch exceeds 85% of the lattice constant, indicating the regime of extreme anisotropy. Finally, we demonstrate the characteristic feature of the engineered resonances by showing the canalization (divergenceless propagation) of the surface plasmon-polariton along the anisotropic nanopatch-based metasurface in the vicinity of the resonance. The integration of Au nanorods in tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (TERS) presents a significant increase in the enhancement factor, primarily due to the gap-mode effect. By aligning Au nanorods in parallel, we construct an Au nanorod lattice, referred to as the Au nanolattice, which further amplifies the advantages of TERS imaging due to the induced inter-nanorod surface plasmon resonance. A critical aspect in this research involves investigating the distribution of hotspots within the nanolattice during TERS measurements. Additionally, we demonstrate that the tip–lattice nanocavity is a predominant factor in determining both the intensity and spatial distribution of these hotspots. Employing the experimental and simulation results, we illustrate the enhancement effect of the tip–lattice cavity and elucidate the connection between the hotspot intensity and cavity size. The surface plasmon resonance (SPR) technique has been widely applied to biosensing technologies for the rapid quantification of biomolecules without enzyme and fluorescent labeling. However, the conventional prism-coupling SPR method generally has a detection area of a few mm2, and the large contribution of the background signal forms a barrier to highly sensitive detection. Based on a highly spatially resolved SPR method, the present study constructed a scanning GC-SPR imaging instrument using an objective lens with a high numerical aperture and a plasmonic chip that could be used for grating-coupled SPR. Focusing light on the diffraction limit can suppress background signals and improve detection sensitivity. SPR imaging can also be performed by scanning a focal spot. Using this method, the refractive index of a mixture of water and dimethyl sulfoxide was measured with a detection accuracy of 2.43 × 10−3 RIU. Polydopamine films prepared with a thickness of <5 nm were also measured, and each film thickness was evaluated with high sensitivity from the effective refractive index detected in a small area of <1 µm2. One-dimensional plasmonic nanogratings (1D-PNGs) with high aspect ratios and narrow grooves promise enhanced coupling for hybrid graphene systems with the localized surface plasmon of the metallic grating and graphene surface plasmons. However, both the fabrication of the 1D-PNG and the application of graphene to it are difficult. We developed 1D-PNGs with a high aspect ratio of 15 and narrow grooves of 100 nm in width using the tapered mold method and a dry graphene-transfer procedure. Raman spectroscopy measurements showed that monolayer graphene was successfully transferred onto the 1D-PNGs, and the graphene was strongly doped with Au in the 1D-PNGs. Graphene on narrow grooves (free-standing graphene) demonstrated an almost identical p-doping level to graphene on Au because the narrow groove width allowed sufficient doping by Au for graphene on grooves. Reflectance measurements showed that the 1D-PNGs exhibited polarization- and wavelength-selective absorption at infrared (IR) wavelengths, and the effect of graphene blue-shifted the absorption peak wavelength induced by the surface plasmon resonance of 1D-PNGs. Numerical calculations agree well with these experimental results and indicate that the electric field strongly localizes on graphene in the grooves. Moreover, the doping level tunes the absorption wavelength owing to the coupling with graphene plasmons and the surface plasmon resonance of 1D-PNGs. This could provide electrical tunability to the graphene plasmons. Our fabrication procedure produced hybrid graphene-1D-PNGs with high aspect ratios and narrow groove systems for IR wavelengths. The plasmonic coupling between silver (Ag) and gold (Au) nanoparticles (NPs) under four polarization modes was examined: a longitudinal mode (L-mode), where the electric field of a linearly polarized incident light parallels the dimer axis, and three transverse modes (T-modes), where the electric field of the light is perpendicular to the dimer axis. The coupling was studied using the discrete dipole approximation followed by an in-house postprocessing code that determines the extinction (Qext), absorption (Qabs), and near-field (Qnf) spectra from the individual NPs as well as the whole system. In agreement with the literature results, the extinction/absorption spectra of the whole dimer have two peaks, one near the Ag localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) region and the other at the Au LSPR region, with the peak at Ag LSPR being reduced in all modes and the peak at Au LSPR being red-shifted and increased in the L-mode but not in the T-modes. It is further shown that the scattering at the Ag LSPR region is reduced and becomes less than the isolated Ag NPs, but the absorption at the Ag LSPR is increased and becomes greater than the isolated Ag NPs for the 50 nm Ag–Au heterodimer. This suggests that the scattering from Ag NPs is being reabsorbed by the neighboring Au NPs due to the interband electronic transition in Au at that wavelength range. The Qext from the individual NP in the heterodimer shows the presence of the Fano profile on the Au NP but not on the Ag NP. This phenomenon was further investigated by using a dielectric particle (DP) placed near the Ag or Au NPs. The Fano profile appears in the absorbing DP spectra placed near either Ag or Au NPs. However, the Fano profile is masked upon further increases in the refractive index value of the DP particle. This explains the absence of a Fano profile on the Ag NPs in the Ag–Au heterodimer. The large near-field enhancement on both Ag and Au NPs at the Au plasmonic wavelength in the L-mode for large NPs was investigated through a DP-Au system. The large enhancement was shown to arise from a large imaginary component of the DP refractive index and a small real component. Through examination of both the near- and far-field properties of the individual NPs as well as the whole system and examinations of DP-Ag and DP-Au systems, our study provides a new understanding of the couplings between Ag and Au NPs. Core–shell gold–silver cuboidal nanoparticles were produced, with either concave or straight facets. Their incubation with a low concentration of chiral l-glutathione (GSH) biomolecules was found to produce near UV plasmonic extinction and induced circular dichroism (CD) peaks. The effect is sensitive to the silver shell thickness. The GSH molecules were found to cause redistribution of silver in the shell, removing silver atoms from edges/corners and re-depositing them at the nanocuboid facets, probably through some redox and complexation processes between the silver and thiol group of the GSH. Other thiolated chiral biomolecules (and drug molecules) did not show this effect. The emerging near UV surface plasmon resonance is a silver slab resonance, which might also possess some multipolar resonance nature. As one of the most widely used infrared (IR) detectors, a mercury cadmium telluride (MCT) detector usually requires liquid nitrogen refrigeration to suppress thermally activated noise mechanisms that are inherent to its narrow bandgap, which limits its practical applications. Therefore, it is essential to develop strategies to suppress dark current with reduced cooling demand. In this work, a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) enhanced MCT microcavity was proposed to intensify optical absorption across a broadband while diminishing the thickness of the MCT layer to reduce intrinsic dark current proportional to the volume of the absorber. The microcavity is formed by sandwiching the MCT layer between a top well-designed hybrid golden-cross antenna array and a bottom golden reflector. The microcavity is employed to trap the incident light to amplify the absorption, and the golden-cross antenna array is introduced to not only significantly enhance the incident light field through the SPR effect but also to broaden the microcavity resonant mode. Numerical calculation indicated that an absorptance exceeding 95.3% can be attained at 3.4 μm with the full width at half maxima (FWHM) extending beyond 1.38 μm, which almost covers the absorption band of MCT in mid-wavelength IR (MWIR), all while the MCT layer is only 530 nm. Moreover, the prototype device unit was fabricated and tested. Measured peak absorption reached 98.7% @ 3.6 μm and FWHM was as broad as 1.12 μm. Efficient absorption of solar radiation holds the key to photothermal utilization; however, realizing solar absorber designs with high absorption efficiency remains challenging. Herein, a nickel-based metamaterial selective solar absorber with a nanopillar array structure was proposed to realize nearly perfect optical absorption over a broad spectrum. The average absorbance is up to 96% in the 300–2033 nm wavelength range. Notably, a reasonably detailed analysis of the physical mechanism of the proposed absorber was performed in this paper, attributing the exceptional broadband absorption to the concurrent interaction with surface plasmon resonance, quarter-wavelength resonance, and electric dipole resonance. The absorption efficiency declines significantly when λ > 2.5 μm, with only 20% absorptivity at λ = 6 μm in the radiation-absorbing transition region. This decline is desirable, as it contributes to reducing the emissivity in the mid-infrared range and, therefore, prevents self-radiation. The results demonstrate that the selective absorber possesses the potential to capture solar energy within a broadband, while avoiding undesirable self-radiation, thereby enhancing the integral efficiency of the solar energy conversion system. Moreover, the absorption spectrum shows insensitivity to polarization and angle of incidence. We investigate the potential of surface plasmon polaritons at noble metal interfaces for surface-enhanced chiroptical sensing of dilute chiral drug solutions with nl volume. The high quality factor of surface plasmon resonances in both Otto and Kretschmann configurations enables the enhancement of circular dichroism differenatial absorption thanks to the large near-field intensity of such plasmonic excitations. Furthermore, the subwavelength confinement of surface plasmon polaritons is key to attain chiroptical sensitivity to small amounts of drug volumes placed around ≃100 nm by the metal surface. Our calculations focus on reparixin, a pharmaceutical molecule currently used in clinical studies for patients with community-acquired pneumonia, including COVID-19 and acute respiratory distress syndrome. Considering realistic dilute solutions of reparixin dissolved in water with concentration ≤ 5 mg/ml and nl volume, we find a circular-dichroism differential absorption enhancement factor of the order ≃20 and chirality-induced polarization distortion upon surface plasmon polariton excitation. Our results are relevant for the development of innovative chiroptical sensors capable of measuring the enantiomeric imbalance of chiral drug solutions with nl volume. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Surface magneto-plasmon (SMP) sensors have attracted continuous attention due to their field enhanced signal-to-noise ratios, sensitivities, and detection limits. Although many progresses have been achieved in the nanodots, nanorods, or nanodiscs, few studies have been conducted on films containing arrays of nanopores or nanoholes. SMP sensors based on arrays of nanopores could be much more promising for future ultrasensitive optical detectors since they can couple the SMP enhancement with Fabry–Pérot interference of nanopores for high-performance resonator sensors that can be further tuned under a magnetic field. We, thus, propose a high-performance SMP sensor based on the magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE) of films containing a square array of Au–Co double-layer nanopores on the Au film substrate or SMP-MOKE sensor. The local electric field around the magneto-plasmon arrays of nanopore photonic crystals can be greatly enhanced by applying an external magnetic field due to their magneto-optical activity and excitation of high-quality surface plasmon resonances. Multi-physics coupling simulations and validation by COMSOL on the structure-dependent optical properties suggest that the proposed SMP-MOKE sensor has a high sensitivity of 711 nm/Refractive Index Units (RIUs) and a figure of merit (FOM) of the order of 105 RIU−1, which is an order of magnitude greater than the best grating-type sensors, to the best of our knowledge. Photocatalytic hydrogen production with simultaneous degradation of organic pollutants by using solar energy provide a promising strategy to solve the energy and environmental issue in the future. However, for onefold wide band-gap semiconductor, the poor photocatalytic efficiency limits its application on a large scale due to its easy recombination of photo-generated electron-hole pairs and low solar energy utilization. Herein, a novel Z-scheme BiVO 4 (040)-Bi-(NaYF 4 :Er,Yb,Tm@BiOBr)/Bi photocatalyst is prepared via photo-assisted isoelectric point method. In this composite photocatalyst, up-convention luminescence material, NaYF 4 :Er,Yb,Tm, can offer more ultraviolet light and visible light to intensify the activations of BiOBr and metal Bi nanoparticles, respectively. Furthermore, the formation of Z-scheme BiVO 4 (040)-BiOBr photocatalystic sytem, the spatial separation of the BiVO 4 (040) and BiVO 4 (110) facets and the presence of metal Bi surface plasmon resonance effect are contributed to the high-efficiency separation of the photo-generated electron-hole pairs. The experimental results show that as-prepared Z-scheme BiVO 4 (040)-Bi-(NaYF 4 :Er,Yb,Tm@BiOBr)/Bi photocatalyst exhibits advanced photocatalytic hydrogen production amount (192.0 μm) and excellent degradation ratio of malachite green (88.51 %) under simulated sunlight irradiation for 5.0 h. The apparent quantum yield of the Z-scheme BiVO 4 (040)-Bi-(NaYF 4 :Er,Yb,Tm@BiOBr)/Bi photocatalyst at 420 nm reaches a specific value of 5.8 %. In addition, Z-scheme BiVO 4 (040)-Bi-(NaYF 4 :Er,Yb,Tm@BiOBr)/Bi photocatalyst also remains a high stability in the photocatalytic hydrogen production with simultaneous degradation of malachite green within six reuse. Accurate diagnostic and serology assays are required for the continued management of the COVID-19 pandemic yet spike protein mutations and intellectual property concerns with antigens and antibodies used in various test kits render comparability assessments difficult. As the use of common, well-characterized reagents can help address this lack of standardization, the National Research Council Canada has produced two protein reference materials (RMs) for use in SARS-CoV-2 serology assays: biotinylated human angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 RM, ACE2-1, and SARS-CoV-2 Omicron BA.4/5 spike protein RM, OMIC-1. Reference values were assigned through a combination of amino acid analysis via isotope dilution liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry following acid hydrolysis, and ultraviolet–visible (UV–Vis) spectrophotometry at 280 nm. Vial-to-vial homogeneity was established using UV–Vis measurements, and protein oligomeric status, monitored by size exclusion liquid chromatography (LC-SEC), was used to evaluate transportation, storage, and freeze–thaw stabilities. The molar protein concentration in ACE2-1 was 25.3 ± 1.7 µmol L−1 (k = 2, 95% CI) and consisted almost exclusively (98%) of monomeric ACE2, while OMIC-1 contained 5.4 ± 0.5 µmol L−1 (k = 2) spike protein in a mostly (82%) trimeric form. Glycoprotein molar mass determination by LC-SEC with multi-angle light scattering detection facilitated calculation of corresponding mass concentrations. To confirm protein functionality, the binding of OMIC-1 to immobilized ACE2-1 was investigated with surface plasmon resonance and the resulting dissociation constant, KD ~ 4.4 nM, was consistent with literature values. Cell wall peptidoglycan binding domains (CBDs) of cell lytic enzymes, including bacteriocins, autolysins and bacteriophage endolysins, enable highly selective bacterial binding, and thus, have potential as biorecognition molecules for nondestructive bacterial detection. Here, a novel design for a self-complementing split fluorescent protein (FP) complex is proposed, where a multimeric FP chain fused with specific CBDs ((FP-CBD) n) is assembled inside the cell, to improve sensitivity by enhancing the signal generated upon Staphylococcus aureus or Bacillus anthracis binding. Flow cytometry shows enhanced fluorescence on the cell surface with increasing FP stoichiometry and surface plasmon resonance reveals nanomolar binding affinity to isolated peptidoglycan. The breadth of function of these complexes is demonstrated through the use of CBD modularity and the ability to attach enzymatic detection modalities. Horseradish peroxidase-coupled (FP-CBD) n complexes generate a catalytic amplification, with the degree of amplification increasing as a function of FP length, reaching a limit of detection (LOD) of 103 cells/droplet (approximately 0.1 ng S. aureus or B. anthracis) within 15 min on a polystyrene surface. These fusion proteins can be multiplexed for simultaneous detection. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are potentially useful biomarkers for the evaluation of cancers and chemical toxicity. However, simply and easily operated detection techniques are increasingly needed to enable their use in the biomedical and environmental fields. In this study, we investigated sequence-specific miRNA detections by surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and electrochemical (EC) imaging measurements on SPR-EC chips possessing a Au electrode array modified with probe DNAs and by employing a miRNA-detection-selective signal amplification method. MiRNAs were sequence-specifically detected by SPR and EC imaging measurements on a single chip. SPR signals were enhanced by a combination process employing the sequencespecific hybridization of miRNAs with the probe DNA, the extension reaction of polyadenine [poly(A)] tails on the 3’ end of the miRNAs by poly(A) polymerase, the binding of T30-Au nanoparticles (AuNPs) to the poly(A) tails, and the reduction reaction of Ag+ catalyzed on the AuNPs, depositing a gray precipitate on the surface. The oxidation reaction of the accumulated Ag precipitation additionally provides EC signal amplification. This process considerably and sequence-specifically amplifies the SPR and EC signals. MEMS technology is employed to fabricate human infrared sensors on double-sided polished glass substrates. For each device, the sensing layer consists of a thin ZnO film deposited on the lower electrode by RF magnetron sputtering. The top electrode was deposited by an electron beam evaporation method with the same material as that used for the bottom electrode. Numerical and experimental investigations were performed to examine the effects of five different electrode materials (Cr, Cu, Au, Pt, and Ag) on the sensing performance of the fabricated device. The experimental results showed that the use of Ag as the electrode material results in the highest response voltage (23 mV/mW) at a chopping frequency of 60 Hz. Additionally, the simulation results showed that the Ag electrodes yield the fastest temperature response. Dual-band electrochromic windows have emerged as a promising approach to reduce building energy consumption. However, developing facile and effective method for preparing single-component dual-band electrochromic material remains a challenge. Herein, an in situ carbothermal reduction strategy was utilized to fabricate monoclinic oxygen-deficient tungsten oxide (WO 3-x) for high-performance dual-band electrochromism. Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP–K90) underwent transformation into amorphous carbon at high temperature, serving as the reducing agent embedded in the tungsten oxide film, and in situ inducing the formation of oxygen vacancies during annealing treatment. Lastly, the amorphous carbon was gasified without weakening the transmittance of WO 3-x film. The content of oxygen vacancies in WO 3-x could be modulated by controlling the added amount of PVP-K90. The intrinsic generation of oxygen vacancies not only obtained a strong local surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) absorption in near-infrared (NIR) range, but also improved lithium ion (Li+) diffusion in WO 3-x film. The WO 3-x electrochromic film exhibited excellent dual-band electrochromic performance in optical modulation, switching time, coloring efficiency, bistability, and cycle stability. Furthermore, the WO 3-x film was applied to electrochromic window to verify its available regulation in solar illumination and heat, indicating that the designed modification strategy has potential for developing a single-component dual-band electrochromic window with outstanding performance. Owing to the passive nature of liquid crystal (LC) materials, achieving luminous displays using pure LC materials is challenging. In addition, it is difficult to achieve a fast switching time using pristine ferroelectric LC devices without compromising their cell thickness. Herein, we have developed a fast switching and highly luminescent electro-optical device by dispersing a minute concentration of bimetallic nanoparticles (Au@Ag NPs) having a spherical gold core and a silver shell within a ferroelectric liquid crystal (FLC) host matrix, ZLI3654. Au@Ag core–shell NPs having synergic attributes of both counterparts were successfully synthesized by a facile seed-mediated route. The Au core helps to tune the shape of the Ag shell and provides enhanced electron density as well as improved stability against oxidation. Introducing nanoparticles induces little structural modifications to the host FLC, resulting in an improvement in the mesogenic alignment. Interestingly, ∼29-fold enhancement in the photoluminescence (PL) intensity is observed on dispersing 0.25 wt% of Au@Ag NPs into the FLC host matrix. The enhanced electromagnetic field in the FLC-nanocomposite is attributed to the Localized Surface Plasmon Resonance of Au@Ag NPs, which strengthens the photon absorption rates by the FLC molecules, culminating in the massive enrichment of the PL intensity. In addition, the improved localized electric field inside the FLC device led to a noticeable enhancement in the spontaneous polarization, dielectric permittivity, and, most interestingly, ∼53% fastening in the switching time at an optimum concentration (0.25 wt%) of Au@Ag NPs. The improved electro-optical parameters of the Au@Ag NPs/FLC composite have been compared with the performance of both pristine Au NPs/FLC and Ag NPs/FLC composites, respectively, for the comprehensiveness of the study. The increased LH levels resulting from the absence of negative feedback after castration has been linked to long-term health issues. A need exists for an alternative contraceptive agent that functions without interfering the LH pathways. This study aimed to develop antibody fragments against the follicular-stimulating hormone receptor (anti-FSHr) using phage-display technology and evaluate its effects on Sertoli cell functions. Phage clones against the extracellular domain of dog and cat FSHr selected from an antibody fragment phagemid library were analyzed for binding kinetics by surface plasmon resonance. Sertoli cells were isolated from testes of adult animals (five dogs and five cats). Efficacy test was performed by treating Sertoli cell cultures (SCCs) with anti-FSHr antibody fragments compared with untreated in triplicates. Expressions of androgen binding protein (ABP), inhibin subunit beta B (IHBB) and vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGFA) mRNA in SCCs were quantified by RT-qPCR. The results demonstrated that the molecular weight of the purified dog and cat anti-FSHr antibody fragment was 25 kDa and 15 kDa, respectively. Based on protein molecular weight, the antibody fragment of dogs and cats was therefore, so-called single-chain variable fragments (scFv) and nanobody (nb), respectively. The binding affinity with dissociation constant (K D) was 2.32 × 10−7 M and 2.83 × 10−9 M for dog and cat anti-FSHr antibody fragments, respectively. The cross-binding kinetic interactions between the dog anti-FSHr scFv and the cat ECD of FSHr could not be fitted to the curves to determine the binding kinetics. However, the cross-binding affinity K D between the cat anti-FSHr nb and the dog ECD FSHr was 1.75 × 10−4 M. The mRNA expression of ABP , IHBB and VEGFA in SCCs was less (P < 0.05) in both dogs (12.26, 4.07 and 5.11 folds, respectively) and cats (39.53, 14.07 and 20.29 folds, respectively) treated with anti-FSHr antibody fragments, indicating the Sertoli cell functions were suppressed. In conclusion, this study demonstrated the establishment of species-specific antibody fragments against FSHr in SCCs for dogs and cats. [Display omitted] The challenge of mitigating pollution stemming from industrial exhaust emissions is a pressing issue in both academia and industry. This study presents the successful synthesis of nitrogen-defect-enriched graphite carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4) using a two-step calcination technique. Furthermore, a g-C 3 N 4 -Au heterostructure was fabricated through the photo-deposited Au quantum dots (QDs). When subjected to visible light irradiation, this heterostructure exhibited robust nitric oxide (NO) photooxidation activity and stability. With its fluffy, porous structure and large surface area, the nitrogen-defect-enriched g-C 3 N 4 provides more active sites for photooxidation processes. The ability of g-C 3 N 4 to absorb visible light is enhanced by the local surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect of Au QDs. Additionally, the lifetime of photogenerated charge carriers is extended by the presence of N defects and Au, which effectively prevent photogenerated electron-hole pairs from recombining during the photooxidation process. Moreover, the oxidation pathway of NO was analyzed through In-situ Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculation. Computational findings revealed that the introduction of Au QDs decreases the activation energy of the oxidation reaction, thereby facilitating its occurrence while diminishing the formation of intermediate products. Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest cancers worldwide, mainly due to late diagnosis. Therefore, there is an urgent need for novel diagnostic approaches to identify the disease as early as possible. We have developed a diagnostic assay for pancreatic cancer based on the detection of naturally occurring tumor associated autoantibodies against Mucin‐1 (MUC1) using engineered glycopeptides on nanoparticle probes. We used a structure‐guided approach to develop unnatural glycopeptides as model antigens for tumor‐associated MUC1. We designed a collection of 13 glycopeptides to bind either SM3 or 5E5, two monoclonal antibodies with distinct epitopes known to recognize tumor associated MUC1. Glycopeptide binding to SM3 or 5E5 was confirmed by surface plasmon resonance and rationalized by molecular dynamics simulations. These model antigens were conjugated to gold nanoparticles and used in a dot‐blot assay to detect autoantibodies in serum samples from pancreatic cancer patients and healthy volunteers. Nanoparticle probes with glycopeptides displaying the SM3 epitope did not have diagnostic potential. Instead, nanoparticle probes displaying glycopeptides with high affinity for 5E5 could discriminate between cancer patients and healthy controls. Remarkably, the best‐discriminating probes show significantly better true and false positive rates than the current clinical biomarkers CA19‐9 and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA). Strong coupling between surface plasmon resonance (SPR) modes and excitons holds great potential for many chemical and physical applications. However, a clear understanding on how far‐field spectral characteristics of SPR (linewidths and intensity) affect the coupling strength remains unclear because these parameters are difficult to be individually tuned. These spectral characteristics are associated with the damping rate and field enhancement that depend on the morphology of the plasmonic nanostructure. In this work, the influence of the SPR line shape on exciton‐plasmon coupling is systematically investigated by delicately tuning the linewidths and resonance intensities of the plasmonic arrays. It is found that the SPR modes with narrow linewidths or large intensity are favorable for the exciton–plasmon system to achieve strong coupling. The obtained clear relationships between the SPR line shape and coupling strength provide guidance for the design and optimization of exciton‐plasmon coupling systems, favoring the highly efficient manipulation of exciton polaritons and enabling specific applications driven by strong coupling. Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) conventionally occurs at the interface of a thin metallic film and an external dielectric medium in fiber optics through core‐guided light. However, this work introduces theoretical and experimental evidence suggesting that the SPR in optical fibers can also be induced through light scattering from Au nanoparticles (NPs) on the thin metallic film, defined as nanoparticle‐induced SPR (NPI‐SPR). This method adheres to phase‐matching conditions between SPR dispersion curves and the wave vectors of scattered light from Au NPs. Experimentally, these conditions are met on an etched optical fiber, enabling direct interaction between light and immobilized Au NPs. Compared to SPR, NPI‐SPR exhibits stronger field intensity in the external region and wavelength tuning capabilities (750 to 1250 nm) by varying Au NP diameters (20 to 90 nm). NPI‐SPR demonstrates refractive index sensitivities of 4000 to 4416 nm per refractive index unit, nearly double those of typical SPR using the same optical fiber configuration sans Au NPs. Additionally, NPI‐SPR fiber configuration has demonstrated its applicability for developing biosensors, achieving a remarkable limit of detection of 0.004 nm for thrombin protein evaluation, a twenty‐fold enhancement compared to typical SPR. This study investigates the influence of LED radiation intensity on the photodeposition of gold nanoparticles onto TiO2 substrates, examining their physicochemical properties and photocatalytic activities. Utilizing a range of radiation intensities and wavelengths, TiO2-Au composites were synthesized and characterized through techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive X-ray (EDX), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The deposition process, markedly enhanced by shorter wavelengths and higher intensities, efficiently formed gold nanoparticles. This research distinctly highlights observable morphological changes in the nanoparticles; increased radiation intensity not only augmented the size but also altered their shape from spherical to hexagonal. These morphological transformations significantly improve the composites' light absorption and catalytic properties due to the surface plasmon resonance of the gold nanoparticles. Photocatalytic assessments, using metronidazole as a model pollutant, demonstrated that composites prepared with higher LED intensities showed significantly enhanced degradation capabilities compared to those synthesized with lower intensities. The findings underscore that manipulating photodeposition parameters can critically influence the structural and functional properties of TiO2-Au composites, potentially advancing their applications in environmental remediation and solar energy utilization. Alpha‐synuclein oligomers play a crucial role in the early diagnosis of Parkinson's disease (PD). In this study, a mercaptoundecanoic acid (MUA)‐capped gold nanorod (GNR)‐coated and chitosan (CH)‐immobilized fiber optic probe has shown considerable sensitivity of its detection. The proposed U‐shaped fiber optic biosensor based on localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) was applied to detect α‐syn oligomer (OA) biomarker. By analyzing OA concentrations, the biosensor achieved a limit of detection of (LOD) 11 pM within the concentration range of 10–100 pM and the sensitivity value was found as 502.69 Δλ/RIU. Upon analysis of the CV% (coefficient of variation) and accuracy/recovery values, it is revealed that the sensor successfully fulfilled the criteria for success, displaying accuracy/recovery values within the range of 80%–120% and CV% values below 20%. This sensor presents significant advantages, including high sensitivity, specificity, and ability to detect very low concentrations of OA. Purpose: The unsatisfactory efficacy of PD-L1 antibodies in glioblastoma (GBM) is largely due to the temporal and spatial heterogeneity of PD-L1 expression. Molecular imaging can enhance understanding of the tumor immune microenvironment and guide immunotherapy. However, highly sensitive imaging agents capable of effectively visualizing PD-L1 heterogeneity are limited. This study introduces a novel PET tracer, offering improved imaging of PD-L1 heterogeneity in GBM xenografts, with a comparative analysis to [18F]AlF-NOTA-WL12. Methods: [18F]AlF-NOTA-PCP2 was synthesized with high purity and its affinity for PD-L1 was characterized using surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and cell binding assays. Its specificity for PD-L1 was evaluated both in vitro using various cell lines and in vivo with GBM xenograft models in NOD/SCID mice. PET/CT imaging was conducted to evaluate the tracer's biodistribution, pharmacokinetics, and ability to quantify tumoral spatial heterogeneity of PD-L1 expression. A focused comparative analysis between [18F]AlF-NOTA-PCP2 and [18F]AlF-NOTA-WL12 was conducted, examining binding affinity, biodistribution, pharmacokinetics, and imaging effectiveness in GBM xenografts. Additionally, human radiation dosimetry estimates compared the safety profiles of both tracers. Results: [18F]AlF-NOTA-PCP2 demonstrated high radiochemical purity (> 95%) and a strong affinity for PD-L1, comparable to [18F]AlF-NOTA-WL12. In vitro and in vivo studies confirmed its specificity for PD-L1, with increased uptake in PD-L1 expressing cells and tumors. Toxicological profiles indicated no significant abnormalities in serum biochemical indicators or major organ tissues. MicroPET/CT imaging showed [18F]AlF-NOTA-PCP2's effectiveness in visualizing PD-L1 expression levels and spatial heterogeneity in GBM xenografts. Comparative studies revealed [18F]AlF-NOTA-PCP2's improved pharmacokinetic properties, including higher tumor-to-blood ratios and lower nonspecific liver uptake, as well as reduced radiation exposure compared to [18F]AlF-NOTA-WL12. Conclusion: [18F]AlF-NOTA-PCP2 distinguishes itself as an exceptionally sensitive PET/CT tracer, adept at non-invasively and accurately quantifying PD-L1 expression and its spatial heterogeneity in tumors, especially in GBM. Herein, a newly synthesized intermediate, piperazine-based Schiff base (PBSB) gas sensor was fabricated by the Schiff base condensation of amino functionalized methylpiperazine with aromatic aldehyde containing nitro substituent. This organic sensor material was structurally identified with spectroscopic techniques such as FTIR, HRMS, 1H- and 13C-NMR. The designed sensor candidate was explored for its optical response to chlorinated volatile organic compounds, namely trichloroethylene, dichloromethane and chloroform in the light of structure–property relationship investigation by using surface plasmon resonance (SPR) technique. The results showed that Schiff bases could be candidates for chlorinated vapour sensing materials with their good response and reversibility. Concordantly, compound PBSB exhibited good response against chlorinated solvent vapours aided by the electron-withdrawing group on benzene ring that promoted better intermolecular interactions and opened up a new strategy to create a novel set of responsive materials for gas sensing applications. In addition, the adsorption kinetics of SPR data obtained from PBSB spun film on exposure to these chlorinated vapours at different concentrations was also evaluated using the Elovich Model. The values of the initial adsorption rate, a and Elovich constant, b were analysed depending on the concentration values and the highest values were obtained for dichloromethane between 372.92 and 4377.53 ppm/mm2. Antibiotic success rates are decreasing as drug-resistant bacteria become more prevalent, prompting the development of new therapeutic drugs. Herein, we demonstrated the antimicrobial activity of sarsaparilla root extract fabricated silver nanoparticles (sAgNPs). The UV–Visible spectra revealed that the surface Plasmon resonance maxima of sAgNPs were at 415 nm. Transmission electron microscopy confirms that the particles are spherical with size of 12–35 nm. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of sAgNPs against Escherichia coli, uropathogenic Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus, and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus was 62.5, 62.5, 62.5, 62.5, 125 and 125 µM, respectively. At 1X MIC, sAgNPs induces excess reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and disturbs the bacteria membrane intergity, causing cytoplamic membrane depolarization. Interestingly, antibacterial activity of sAgNPs was considerably reduced in the presence of an antioxidant, N-acetyl cysteine, suggesting that ROS-induced membrane damage is a plausible cause of cell death. In contrast to many studies that only report the in vitro activity of NPs, we determined the in vivo antibacterial efficacy using the zebrafish model. It was found that sAgNPs protect fish from infection by inhibiting bacterial growth and eliminating them from the fish. In addition, the catalytic potential of sAgNPs for wastewater decontamination was demonstrated by degrading organic pollutants such as methyl orange, congo red, reactive black, and acid blue. The pollutants degraded in less than 10 min, and the reaction follows pseudo-first-order kinetics. As a proof of concept, the catalytic potential of sAgNPs in degrading mixed dyes to satisfy industrial wastewater treatment needs was established. Liver fibrosis is a key and reversible stage in the progression of many chronic liver diseases to cirrhosis or hepatocellular carcinoma. Forsythiaside-A (FTA), a main compound isolated from Forsythiae Fructus, has an excellent liver protective activity. This study aims to investigate the efficacy of FTA in improving cholestatic liver fibrosis. Bile-duct-ligation (BDL) was conducted to induce liver fibrosis in mice. Hepatic collagen deposition was evaluated by Masson and Sirus red staining. The bile acid spectrum in the liver and serum was analyzed by mass spectrometry. Liver oxidative stress injury and mitochondria damage were observed by using Mito-Tracker Red fluorescence staining, transmission electron microscopy, etc. The level of ferrous iron (Fe2+) and the expression of ferroptosis-associated molecules were detected. The binding between FTA and its target protein was confirmed by Co-immunoprecipitation (Co-IP), cellular thermal shift assay (CETSA), drug affinity responsive target stability (DARTS) and surface plasmon resonance (SPR). Our results demonstrated that FTA alleviated BDL-induced liver fibrosis in mice. FTA did not decrease the elevated amount of bile acids in BDL-treated mice, but reduced the bile acid-induced mitochondrial damage, oxidative stress and ferroptosis in hepatocytes, and also induced nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor-2 (Nrf2) activation. In Nrf2 knock-out mice, the FTA-provided protection against BDL-induced liver fibrosis was disappeared, and FTA's inhibition on mitochondrial damage, oxidative stress and ferroptosis were lowered. Further results displayed that FTA could directly bind to Kelch-like ECH-associated protein-1 (Keap1), thereby activating Nrf2. Moreover, the BDL-induced liver fibrosis was markedly weakened in liver-specific Keap1 knockout mice. The scorpion-derived peptide margatoxin (MgTx) can make it possible to create novel and targeted medications for treatment of cancer. In this study, for the first time, we report an investigation of the human serum albumin (HSA) protein interaction with MgTx in aqueous solution. For this, biophysical methods including spectral, surface plasmon resonance (SPR), zeta potential and also in silico molecular docking technique at physiological conditions were used for examining kinetic binding and thermodynamic data. This interaction was done for a series of MgTx concentrations at three temperatures. The comparison of the KD kinetic value at 308 ° K and 298 ° K in SPR and UV spectroscopy shows that the complex between the MgTx and HSA has high strength at lower temperatures. The resulted positive data for ΔH and ΔS show that the major interaction force involved in the formation of the MgTx/HSA complex is hydrophobic forces. Also, the decreasing of zeta-potential values by adding of MgTx concentrations confims that the MgTx molecules could bind to HSA more by hydrophobic forces. In addition, according to the docking results, there are a very small number of strong interactions such as hydrogen bonds and salt bridges compared to the hydrophobic forces in the HSA and MgTx interaction. Bi/BiOCl with oxygen vacancies composite was synthesized through a facile and rapid in situ surface reduction of BiOCl, utilizing NaBH4 as the reductant. The reduction process yielded metallic Bi nanoparticles on the surface of BiOCl and meanwhile created the oxygen vacancies within the BiOCl lattice. As a consequence, the as‐synthesized Bi/BiOCl composites exhibited a substantially enhanced visible‐light absorption capacity, whereas pure BiOCl was only responsive to ultraviolet light. Additionally, the Bi/BiOCl composite demonstrated a markedly accelerated photodegradation rate of Rhodamine, exceeding that of pure BiOCl and P25 by a factor of 6.10 and 19.74, respectively. The density functional theory (DFT) calculation was carried out to estimate the band structural and electronic properties of samples. Based on systematic analysis, the underlying mechanism was attributed to the extended responsive light range due to the surface plasma resonance of metallic Bi and the formation of oxygen vacancy energy level. Moreover, the electron sink effect of Bi nanoparticles was found to suppress the recombination of photoinduced charges, further contributing to the enhanced photocatalytic performance of Bi/BiOCl. Background: Numerous studies suggest a progressive accumulation of post-translationally modified peptides within amyloid fibrils, including isoaspartate (isoD) modifications. Here, we generated and characterised novel monoclonal antibodies targeting isoD-modified transthyretin (TTR). The antibodies were used to investigate the presence of isoD-modified TTR in deposits from transthyretin amyloidosis patients and to mediate antibody-dependent phagocytosis of TTR fibrils. Methods: Monoclonal antibodies were generated by immunisation of mice using an isoD-modified peptide and subsequent hybridoma generation. The antibodies were characterised in terms of affinity and specificity to isoD-modified TTR using surface plasmon resonance, transmission electron microscopy and immunohistochemical staining of human cardiac tissue. The potential to elicit antibody-dependent phagocytosis of TTR fibrils was assessed using THP-1 cells. Results: We developed two mouse monoclonal antibodies, 2F2 and 4D4, with high nanomolar affinity for isoD-modified TTR and strong selectivity over the unmodified epitope. Both antibodies show presence of isoD-modified TTR in human cardiac tissue, but not in freshly purified recombinant TTR, suggesting isoD modification only present in aged fibrillar deposits. Likewise, the antibodies only facilitated phagocytosis of TTR fibrils and not TTR monomers by THP-1 cells. Tanshinone I (Tan I) has been proven to exert an anti-inflammatory effect, but the complete mechanism remains unclear. In this study, Tan I was described to have no effect on Syk expression in resting or LPS-stimulated macrophages ex vivo , but dramatically suppressed Syk phosphorylation and CD80, CD86, and IL-1β expression of macrophages. The inflammatory activity of macrophages in ApoC3-transgenic (ApoC3TG) mice is upregulated by Syk activation. Tan I was determined to downregulate Syk phosphorylation and inflammatory activity of macrophages in ApoC3TG mice, both ex vivo and in vivo. Intraperitoneal injection of Tan I (4 mg/kg) effectively alleviated DSS-induced colitis in mice, accompanying with suppressing the activation of intestinal macrophages. Mechanistically, Tan I-treated macrophages exhibited a decrease in cytoplasmic ROS, NLRP3, GSDMD, and IL-1β, which suggested that the alternative pathway of inflammasome activation in macrophages was suppressed. The SPR assay demonstrated that Tan I bound to Syk protein with a dissociation constant (KD) of 2.473 × 10−6 M. When Syk expression was knocked down by its shRNA, the inhibitory effects of Tan I on macrophages were blocked. Surface plasmon resonance‐based fiber optic sensors with Ag‐SnO2 and Ag‐ZnS bi‐layers are proposed experimentally and compared in detail in terms of sensitivity. Effect of SnO2 and ZnS layer thicknesses on the sensitivity is examined. Largest sensitivities are achieved by sensors with 40 nm Ag‐10 nm SnO2 layers and 40 nm Ag‐10 nm ZnS layers. Photocatalysis technology is considered as a most promising method to decompose organic pollutant since the inexhaustible solar energy and facile reaction condition. All the samples are investigated and characterized by X-Ray diffraction, Scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscope, ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy and Photoluminescence to insight into the microstructures and optical properties. During the photocatalytic degradation of Methyl orange experiments, the optimized Ag/AgCl/BiOCl sample prepared by photoreduction with 40 min exhibits the excellent photocatalytic performance. Under visible-light irradiation for 60 min, degradation rate of Methyl orange reaches 97%, which is 9.7, 6.1 and 4.6 times higher than that of AgCl, Ag/BiOCl and BiOCl, respectively. The UV–vis diffuse reflectance and Photoluminescence spectra of the Ag/AgCl/BiOCl photocatalyst verify that the enhanced photocatalytic activity is ascribed to its extended absorption range to visible-light region and the efficient separation efficiency of photogenerated carriers. In addition, the radical trapping experiment demonstrates that photogenerated hole and superoxide radicals play critical roles in the methyl orange degradation. The corresponding photocatalytic degradation mechanism is proposed that the excellent photocatalytic activity is attributed to the surface plasmon resonance effect of metallic Ag and heterojunction structure of Ag/AgCl/BiOCl photocatalysts. Plastics and other polymer-based compounds are inevitable in our day-to-day life starting from packaging to consumer goods. Awareness about recycling plastics is all known; however, it is not sufficient to contain their negative effects on the environment and health. Disintegration products of plastic called micro- and nano-plastics (M/NPs) are increasingly found in food and environmental samples, which are considered to be an invisible threat with greater impact. Yet, there are no comprehensive regulations to monitor the M/NPs in food and water samples. Considering their harmful effects, there is a need for appropriate detection techniques to effectively identify and quantify the M/NPs in food and environment. Conventional techniques such as the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy are expensive, require lab and labor, and are not suitable for on-field real-time monitoring. Optical detection techniques using various probes and sensors have been extensively used in the fields of bioimaging, biosensing, molecular fingerprinting etc. Recent research suggests that these probes and sensors are effective in detecting and quantifying the M/NPs. In this regard, the distinctive features of visual, colorimetric and plasmonic detection techniques have proved their high-end applicability. Most of these detectors are based on the principles of fluorescence, localized surface plasmon resonance, colorimetry, surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy and speckle pattern analysis. This review discusses the recent advancements in the field of optical detection for M/NPs, summarizing its advantages, salient features, drawbacks, and ideas for future research. Copper is relatively low cost and highly abundant compared with the well-studied noble metals such as gold and silver. However, the poor plasmonic and high susceptibility towards oxidation limit the study of its optical properties and applications as well. Herein, copper nanoparticles@polycarbonate (Cu@PC) composites were prepared by using a facile one-step solvothermal method. The Cu@PC composites have strong localized surface plasmon resonances (LSPR) due to that the PC shell can induce the particles to form many-particles system with different particle numbers, which not only lead to overlap and hybridize of the LSPR modes, but also shift the LSPR away from the interband transitions, and the PC layer also prevents the oxidation of Cu nanoparticles. The photothermal conversion efficiency of Cu@PC composites reaches 41.1% under 808 nm continuous wave (CW) laser irradiation which is higher than previously reported Cu nanomaterials that have been reported. Meanwhile, the composites also have high photothermal stability. Moreover, interfacial evaporator is prepared by assembling the Cu@PC composites on scouring sponge as light absorption layer which has > 92.8% absorption in entire solar spectrum range. Its seawater evaporation rate is 3.177 kg·m−2·h−1 with a Eevaporator/Ewater of 5.2. Objective: To explore the potential mechanism of lysionotin in treating glioma. Methods: First, target prediction based on Bernoulli Naïve Bayes profiling and pathway enrichment was used to predict the biological activity of lysionotin. The binding between 5-lipoxygenase (5-LO) and lysionotin was detected by surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and molecular docking, and the inhibitory effects of lysionotin on 5-LO and proliferation of glioma were determined using enzyme inhibition assay in vitro and cell viability analysis, respectively. Furthermore, the pharmaceutical effect of lysionotin was explored by cell survival rate analysis and liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The protein expression, intracellular calcium ion concentration and cytoskeleton detection were revealed by Western blot, flow cytometry and fluorescence labeling, respectively. Results: Target prediction and pathway enrichment revealed that lysionotin inhibited 5-LO, a key enzyme involved in the arachidonic acid metabolism pathway, to inhibit the proliferation of glioma. Molecular docking results demonstrated that 5-LO can be binding to lysionotin through hydrogen bonds, forming bonds with His600, Gln557, Asn554, and His372. SPR analysis further confirmed the interaction between 5-LO and lysionotin. Furthermore, enzyme inhibition assay in vitro and cell survival rate analysis revealed that 50% inhibition concentration of lysionotin and the median effective concentration of lysionotin were 90 and 16.58 µmol/L, respectively, and the results of LC-MS/MS showed that lysionotin inhibited the production of 5S-hydroperoxy-eicosatetraenoic acid (P<0.05), and moreover, the LC-MS/MS results indicated that lysionotin can enter glioma cells well (P<0.01) and inhibit their proliferation. Western blot analysis demonstrated that lysionotin can inhibit the expression of 5-LO (P<0.05) and downstream leukotriene B4 receptor (P<0.01). In addition, the results showed that lysionotin affected intracellular calcium ion concentration by inhibiting 5-LO to affect the cytoskeleton, as determined by flow cytometry and fluorescence labeling. Re-designing existing nano-silver technologies to optimize efficacy and sustainability has a tangible impact on preventing infections and limiting the spread of pathogenic microorganisms. Advancements in manufacturing processes could lead to more cost-effective and scalable production methods, making nano-silver-based antimicrobial products more accessible in various applications, such as medical devices, textiles, and water purification systems. In this paper, we present a new, versatile, and eco-friendly one-pot process for preparing silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) at room temperature by using a quaternary ammonium salt of hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC), a green ingredient, acting as a capping and reducing agent. The resulting nano-hybrid phase, AgHEC, consists of AgNPs embedded into a hydrogel matrix with a tunable viscosity depending on the conversion grade, from ions to nanoparticles, and on the pH. To investigate the synthesis kinetics, we monitored the reaction progress within the first 24 h by analyzing the obtained NPs in terms of particle size (dynamic light scattering (DLS), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM)), Z-potential (ELS), surface plasmon resonance (UV-VIS), crystallographic phase (XRD), viscosity, and reaction yield (inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES)). To explore the design space associated with AgHEC synthesis, we prepared a set of sample variants by changing two independent key parameters that affect nucleation and growth steps, thereby impacting the physicochemical properties and the investigated antimicrobial activity. One of the identified design alternatives pointed out an improved antimicrobial activity in the suspension, which was confirmed after application as a coating on nonwoven cellulose fabrics. Plasmonic antennas leveraging localized surface plasmon resonances (LSPR) hold a significant premise for efficiently trapping nanoscale particles at low power levels. However, their effectiveness is hindered by photothermal effects that arise with metallic nanoparticles, leading to decreased stability of trapped particles. To address this limitation, a hybrid approach that combines depletion attraction and photothermal effects inherent in plasmonic structures is proposed, capitalizing on thermally induced concentration gradients. Through the thermophoretic depletion of polyethylene glycol (PEG) molecules around plasmonic hotspots, sharp concentration gradients are created, enabling precise localization of nanoscopic particles through a synergistic effect with diffusiophoretic forces. Our experiments successfully demonstrate the ability to trap and dynamically manipulate small extracellular vesicles and 100 nm polystyrene beads, showcasing the platform's potential for assembly at the nanoscale. Remarkably, this method maintains stable trapping performance even at a laser power of 0.78mW$0.78\ {\rm mW}$. The demonstration of stable trapping of small extracellular vesicles showcases the compatibility of this platform with bio species. This study introduces a promising avenue for the precise and efficient manipulation of nanoscale particles, with wide‐ranging implications in nanotechnology, biophysics, and nanomedicine. We report hereby a sensitive and rapid label free colorimetric assay of two amino acids, viz. L -arginine (L -Arg) and L -cysteine (L -Cys), through silver sol synthesized via a wet chemical method using 2-boronobenzoic acid (2- BBA) as a reducing and capping reagent in an aqueous alkaline medium. 2-BBA was synthesized in situ by the reaction of 2-formylphenylboronic acid (2-FBPA) and silver nitrate through Tollen's method. The as-synthesized silver sol exhibited the formation of nanocubes having their most predominant size in the range of 20–25 nm upon their TEM scanning and exhibiting an SPR band at 401 nm in their UV-vis spectrum. The same were further characterized by SEM, EDX, AFM, FTIR, XPS, DLS, and zeta potential measurements also. Separate interaction of the two amino acids, viz., L -Arg and L -Cys, with diluted AgNCs (1 : 2; AgNCs and Millipore water V/V) exhibited two different colors, pinkish grey and blue, respectively accompanied by distinctive shifts in their surface plasmon resonance (SPR) band also. The detection limits were found to be 6 μM and 3 μM for L -Arg and L -Cys respectively. Furthermore, L -Arg and L -Cys were quantified in a pharmaceutical sample each with their respective recovery rates of 99.2% and 90.1%. These AgNCs exhibited rich SERS characteristics also by intensifying the Raman peaks of L -Arg and L -Cys. Only a few one-pot aqueous chemical syntheses of silver nanocubes have been reported previously. Most probably, this is the third report of its kind. In this study, we report an experimental protocol based on gold nanoparticles (GNPs) for the selective and efficient chromogenic detection and determination of glutathione in two pharmaceutical samples, viz. Maxiliv and Glutaderm, in real time. The glucosamine hydrochloride driven hydrothermal (40 °C) wet chemical reduction of gold(III) chloride trihydrate resulted in gold sol with a ruby red color exhibiting a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) at 521 nm. The most frequent average size of these GNPs was found to be 23 nm and their concentration was evaluated to be 8.4 nM. The zeta potential measurements and interaction of these GNPs against NaCl of varying molarities indicated their long-term stability. According to SEM analysis, these GNPs exhibited a nanowire morphology and produced a categorical color change from ruby red to blue selectively with GSH in the presence of a wide range of similar analytes in real time. Background: Studies have reported that polyphyllin I (PPI) had effective anti-tumor activity against hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, the precise molecular mechanism of this action and the direct target remain unclear. The aim of this study was to discover the molecular targets and the exact mechanism of PPI in the treatment of HCC. Methods: Various HCC cells and Zebrafish xenotransplantation models were used to examine the efficacy of PPI against HCC. A proteome microarray, surface plasmon resonance (SPR) analysis, small molecule transfection, and molecular docking were conducted to confirm the direct binding targets of PPI. Transcriptome and Western blotting were then used to determine the exact responding mechanism. Finally, the anticancer effect and its precise mechanism, as well as the safety of PPI, were verified using a mouse tumor xenograft study. Results: The results demonstrated that PPI had significant anticancer activity against HCC in both in vitro studies of two cells and the zebrafish model. Notably, PPI selectively enhanced the action of the Zinc finger and BTB domain-containing 16 (ZBTB16) protein by directly binding to it. Furthermore, specific knockdown of ZBTB16 markedly attenuated PPI-dependent inhibition of HCC cell proliferation and migration caused by overexpression of the gene. The transcriptome and Western blotting also confirmed that the interaction between ZBTB16 and PPI also activated the PPARγ/RXRα pathway. Finally, the mouse experiments confirmed the efficacy and safety of PPI to treat HCC. Conclusions: Our results indicate that ZBTB16 is a promising drug target for HCC and that PPI as a potent ZBTB16 agonist has potential as a therapeutic agent against HCC by regulating the ZBTB16/PPARγ/RXRα signaling axis. GPIHBP1 is a membrane protein of endothelial cells that transports lipoprotein lipase (LPL), the key enzyme in plasma triglyceride metabolism, from the interstitial space to its site of action on the capillary lumen. An intrinsically disordered highly negatively charged N-terminal domain of GPIHBP1 contributes to the interaction with LPL. In this work, we investigated whether the plethora of heparin-binding proteins with positively charged regions found in human plasma affect this interaction. We also wanted to know whether the role of the N-terminal domain is purely non-specific and supportive for the interaction between LPL and full-length GPIHBP1, or whether it participates in the specific recognition mechanism. Using surface plasmon resonance, affinity chromatography, and FRET, we were unable to identify any plasma component, besides LPL, that bound the N-terminus with detectable affinity or affected its interaction with LPL. By examining different synthetic peptides, we show that the high affinity of the LPL/N-terminal domain interaction is ensured by at least ten negatively charged residues, among which at least six must sequentially arranged. We conclude that the association of LPL with the N-terminal domain of GPIHBP1 is highly specific and human plasma does not contain components that significantly affect this complex. Herein, a localized surface plasmon resonance‐based sensor for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) detection is developed. The sensors are fabricated as a hybrid nanostructure of gold nanoparticles coated with a tantalum oxide (TaO) thin film on a glass slide substrate through magnetron sputtering and thermal solid‐state dewetting techniques. The thickness of the TaO film varies between 10 and 70 nm. The optical properties of samples are characterized by UV‐Vis‐NIR spectrophotometry, while their morphologies are confirmed via transmission electron microscopy. The results show the shift of the minimum optical transmittance related to the TaO thickness. Electrical field simulations are performed to predict the sensitivity of the prepared samples for VOCs detection. In addition, the sensors are tested with different VOCs, including formaldehyde, isopropanol, acetone, and methanol, which show good potential for practical applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Plasmonic rulers (PRs) linking nanoscale distance dependence spectral shifts are important for studying cellular microenvironments and biomarker detection. The traditional PR design employs tethering metal nanoparticle pairs using synthetic and biopolymers that severely suffer from reproducibility issues, as well as lack reversibility. Here, the fabrication of novel PRs is reported through the formation of self‐assembled monolayers (SAMs) of photoswitchable molecular machines chemically tethered onto sharp‐tip gold nanostructures (Au NSs). This unique and highly sensitive PR utilizes localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) properties of Au NSs to spectroscopically evaluate dipole–dipole coupling between NSs and photoisomerizable spiropyran (SP)‐merocyanine (MC) conjugates in the solid‐state. It is observed that the SAM‐modified NSs are extremely sensitive to the photoisomerization of SP‐to‐MC, resulting in LSPR shifts as large as 5.6 nm for every 1.0 Å change in distance. The highly dipolar MC changes the NS‐SAM interfacial polarizability and alters the dipole–dipole coupling leading to the ultrasensitive PR is hypothesized. The hypothesis is supported theoretically by calculating dipole polarizability of an inorganic‐organic heterodimer model and experimentally by determining work function and interfacial dipole values. Taken together, this work represents the fabrication of next‐generation PRs, which hold great promise for advanced, plasmonic‐based sensors and optoelectronic device fabrication. Signal transducers are crucial in bioassay platforms for converting target detection into recordable signals. Commonly used color development for immunoassays involves enzymes and colorimetric substrates. However, due to cost and environmental issues, practical point‐of‐care testing requires alternative signal transducers. Growth‐induced extinction (absorption and scattering) of gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) is proposed as a novel approach for quantitative immunoassays. AuNCs devoid of localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) are used as seeds for growth reactions. Through reactions with a growth solution comprised of gold precursor and mild reductant, AuNCs of varying concentrations underwent controlled growth, resulting in nanoparticles of different sizes exhibiting distinct LSPR‐mediated extinction bands. Notably, the seed concentration exhibited a robust correlation with the resulting extinction of the grown particles on a small scale of 110 µL for a 96‐well microplate platform. To demonstrate this signal transduction mechanism, immunosorbent assays are performed using the conjugates of AuNC and detection antibody. The sandwich‐type assay successfully quantified a model antigen, human immunoglobulin G (hIgG), by monitoring LSPR wavelength and absorbance. This assay demonstrated a working range of 0.001–1 µg mL−1 and limit of detection of 1.19 ng mL−1. Comprehensive Summary: Localized surface plasmon resonance has been demonstrated to provide effective photophysical enhancement mechanisms in plasmonic photocatalysis. However, it remains highly challenging for distinct mechanisms to function in synergy for a collective gain in catalysis due to the lack of spatiotemporal control of their effect. Herein, the anisotropic plasmon resonance nature of Au nanorods was exploited to achieve distinct functionality towards synergistic photocatalysis. Photothermal and photochemical effects were enabled by the longitudinal and transverse plasmon resonance modes, respectively, and were enhanced by partial coating of silica nanoshells and epitaxial growth of a reactor component. Resonant excitation leads to a synergistic gain in photothermal‐mediated hot carrier‐driven hydrogen evolution catalysis. Our approach provides important design principles for plasmonic photocatalysts in achieving spatiotemporal modulation of distinct photophysical enhancement mechanisms.
