A TechnoEthical Framework for Teachers (TEFT) is introduced to aid educators in selecting and employing educational technologies in ethically sound and pedagogical sensitive ways in their classrooms. TEFT views technology through three key technoethical lenses or perspectives: instrumental, sociomaterial and existential. The instrumental lens is most familiar to teachers and focuses on the policies and laws governing teachers' and students' uses of technology. The sociomaterial perspective attends to technology's built-in biases and how it translates behaviour in prescribed or circumscribed ways. The existential lens considers how students' and teachers' entanglements with technology condition how they experience the world and transform their ways of knowing, doing, being and becoming. Taken together, these three approaches provide teachers with a theoretically robust view of the ethical implications of using technology in the classroom. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: This paper aims to unveil opportunities for promoting teacher ethics through quality school-based professional development (S-BPD) programmes to improve teachers' ethical conduct in Tanzanian primary schools. Design/methodology/approach: This qualitative study uses an institutional ethnography design. The data were collected through interviews, focus group discussion, observation and documentary review. Data analysis was guided by Braun and Clarke's (2006) framework of thematic analysis. Findings: Opportunities to promote teacher ethics drew on quality S-BPD programmes. These opportunities include interactions with morally committed teachers, introduction of the civic and moral subject, prevalence of teacher misconduct, ideal school leadership and development and access to affordable technology. Practical implications: The study provides useful insights into how to reshape teachers' ethical competences and to link theory and practice in teaching. Moreover, the study suggests school-based solutions to the problem of resource scarcity for teachers to retool their professional competences. Originality/value: The opportunities revealed are critical for promoting teacher ethics through quality S-BPD programmes in primary schools because teacher ethics is learned. The study offers insights into how to improve teacher ethics in primary schools. The invention of digital ICT devices is one of the most important developments in the history of humankind, and education can greatly benefit from it. However, cyber ethics violations by teachers have become prevalent and are expected to increase unless measures are taken. This study explored education stakeholders’ perspectives on ways to promote teachers’ compliance with cyber ethics in Tanzania. It employed a qualitative case study design involving three secondary schools and 27 participants selected purposively in Kinondoni Municipality in the Dar es Salaam region. Data were sought through semi-structured interviews and document reviews and subjected to thematic data analysis. The findings indicated that teachers’ compliance with cyber ethics requires training of teachers on the pedagogical uses of technology, the inception of a specific national policy for the responsible use of technology in schools, integration of the cyber ethics aspects of the Teachers’ Code of Conduct, improvement of teachers’ living and working conditions, and promotion of teachers’ awareness of the Cyber Crimes Act of 2015, among others. The study recommends that policymakers and education authorities implement the suggested initiatives to promote cyber ethics compliance among teachers for education excellence in Tanzania, and, possibly, elsewhere.

Teacher ethics refers to the pursuit of "goodness" and the suppression of "evilness" by teachers in their daily teaching, manifested in their teaching objectives, attitudes, discourse, and behavior. Teachers will inevitably encounter many ethical conflicts in their teaching. Theymainly face eight types of ethical dilemmas in educational practice, including fairness issues, student behavior management, conflicts between curriculum reform and exams, conflicts between school administrative management and teaching, conflicts between investment and return, conflicts between teacher beliefs and parental beliefs, conflicts between colleagues, and conflicts between different principles. In the face of these ethical dilemmas, three professional ethical decision-making approaches are mainly adopted by teachers: one is based on virtues, which centers on "human virtues or moral qualities", and takes personal virtues or qualities as the basis for ethical decision-making and conduct; The second is a rule-based approach, which is centered around rules, and takes a series of ethical norms, principles, and guidelines as the basis for ethical decision-making and conduct; The third approach is based on prediction, which focuses on "the predicted behavior outcomes", and takes the possible outcomes of behavior as the basis for ethical decision-making and conduct. Three suggestions have been put forward in view of the professional ethical dilemmas that teachers actually face, namely, the construction of teacher ethics needs to pay attention to the ethical dilemmas in specific educational scenarios and their solutions; The decision-making path of professional ethics for teachers should shift from singular to integrated one; Schools should establish an ethical dialogue and negotiation system.

The attitudes and behaviors of teachers directly influence the cognitive, affective, and social development of students. These effects may be positive or negative and may last a long time. The aim of this study is to examine teacher behaviors and attitudes that can negatively or positively affect student progress. Using a qualitative research approach, the study adopted a basic interpretative research design. The study involved 229 undergraduate students studying at two state universities in Türkiye. Under the headings of positive and negative themes, participants explained the most influential teacher behaviors and attitudes they encountered in primary, secondary, or high school. A total of 183 positive and 187 negative narratives were analyzed. Positive teacher behaviors and attitudes were grouped under three categories: effective communication and ethical attitude, professional competence and dedication, and individual support and trust. Students have been found to be more confident, motivated, and satisfied with their learning, and are more likely to trust their teachers when they exhibit these behaviors. Negative behavior and attitudes were classified into discrimination and injustice, classroom management and communication problems, and occupational incompetence and irresponsibility. In addition to reducing students' motivation to learn, self-confidence, and respect for teachers, these negative behaviors impede their social development.

This study wants to reveal in detail the teacher's ethics according to two different points of view. First, the point of view of the leader of Islamic education reformer Syed Naquib Al-Attas Malaysia. Second, is the figure of Indonesian Islamic education, KH. M. Hasyim Asy'ari Indonesia. The research method used is a literature study combined with content analysis. So the answer is that the teacher ethics perspective of Syed Naquib Al-Attas and KH. M. Hasyim Asy'ari has differences in the details. However, it has a similar goal, namely to strengthen the transfer of knowledge that is strongly connected with the transfer of attitude (Adab/Akhlak).

Research has found that academic dishonesty (AD) is common among college and university undergraduate students worldwide (International Center for Academic Integrity, 2021). Two variables found to have a significant effect on student cheating were students' attitudes toward AD and perceptions of peer engagement in AD (McCabe et al., 2012). This quantitative research study examined preservice teachers' attitudes and behaviors related to academic dishonesty. Utilizing three parts of the Academic Integrity Survey, this study analyzed data from 62 preservice teachers enrolled at a university in the Mid-Atlantic Region of the United States that were preparing to teach students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grades in both public and private schools. Data analyses examined the frequency rates at which preservice teachers self-reported engaging in academic dishonesty, as well as the relationships that existed between preservice teachers' attitudes toward academic dishonesty, perceptions of peer engagement in AD, and self-reported engagement in AD. Results showed that rates for self-reported engagement in academic dishonesty among preservice teachers were similar to those found for undergraduates in other majors, with attitude toward behavior found to be significantly associated with and predictive of self-reported engagement in academic cheating among this group of preservice teachers. This qualitative study explores the ethical dilemmas felt by teachers as they transferred from hard-to-staff to easy-to-staff schools within a large urban school district. According to these teachers' accounts, many were motivated by a notion of craft conscience and felt a professional responsibility to leave schools where they were prevented from successfully practicing good teaching. At the same time, these teachers felt an obligation to the students they were leaving. The study concludes that such dilemmas result in moral injury to teachers as they find themselves in positions in which they are forced to choose among competing ethical claims. In his paper, 'On the Necessity of School Punishment', Michael Hand defends school punishment on logical grounds. In this reply, I show why this argument fails. First, I claim that the concept of a rule of obligation does not, in and of itself, establish that punishment is necessary. Second, I claim that a rule of obligation does not justify punishment on the grounds that it is necessary for social order or norm-conformity. Finally, I argue that a rule of obligation does establish the necessity of punishment, but only by assuming that social pressure and punishment are one and the same thing. The problem with this move, however, is that the necessity of 'punishment' becomes a trivial truth with little practical or normative guidance to offer educators. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In a context of issues about the interest of introducing spirituality into school, this article offers a philosophical reflection on what could still be called the school's essential spirituality. This spirituality was a central dimension of classical republican thought. It was part of a humanistic faith and seems to have been swept away by the criticism of this humanism by the human sciences to the point that founding a secular spirituality of the school may seem today a challenge. The philosophy of Nicolas Grimaldi, reinterpreting the relationship of the spirit and nature in a split monism and an ontology of life can help to overcome it. Based on the observation that the plurilingual and intercultural education promoted by the Council of Europe represents a maximalist conception of morality, this paper aims to explore the moral conceptions of teachers of language and culture in a multicultural context. The survey analysis shows that the respondents mobilize a rather minimalist conception of morality. Based on this result, we call for the contextual limitations of plurilingual and intercultural education to be taken into consideration.

This study examined teachers' perspectives on using a mobile phone in the promotion of teacher ethics in Tanzania. It was informed by the qualitative approach, using a sample of forty-eight (48) respondents who were drawn through purposive and convenient sampling techniques. Data were sought through Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and were subjected to thematic data analysis. Findings indicated that respondents perceived a mobile phone as a viable tool in the promotion of teacher ethics. Moreover, ownership and accessibility, popularity and ease of use, internet coverage and connectivity, as well as the ubiquitous nature of the device were the reasons given for their perceptions. However, teachers' lack of knowledge, attitude and beliefs, financial problems, limited network connection, and poor coordination and technical support were the anticipated challenges in using the device in the promotion of teacher ethics. Based on the noted potential of the device, the study recommends the need for Teachers' Service Commission in Tanzania to adopt and use the device so as to ensure wider coverage of ethical information and combat unethical conduct amongst teachers. This research is focused on the attitude of the teachers to their profession and to different models of teaching, on the emotional communication and the ethics of appraisal (valuation). In this book, for the first time, there has been introduced "The Teacher's Oath", The Code and the Esthetical Principles of Teaching, Ethics of Practical Activities in Education, different ways of communication, relations between partners, the professional dilemma of the teacher, conflict of interests, the proportion of ethics to aesthetics and that of the philosophy of values to the psychology of education. To complete this research, different methods, means, and situations, have been brought into focus. Some of them have been questionnaires, deductions, opinions and objections, records and quotations of well known ideas, original conclusions, psychological and pedagogical attitudes. Professional teacher’s ethics is a collection of moral codes of their professional work. It is significant that the teaching profession respects certain designated professional-ethical codes of conduct between the teachers and the students, with their colleagues and other people they professionally cooperate with. This study is focused on analysis of the professional ethical relation of teachers towards students, seen from student’s point of view. These are the results of student’s reported opinion of the eighth graders from six primary schools in the region of the city of Skopje. The obtained results show that teachers mainly keep in line with the moral codes of conduct with the students, but not always all teachers respect them.

This present article takes an interest in the fairly new phenomena of social and emotional training programs in youth education. Prior research has shown that values and norms produced in these types of programs are supporting ethical systems that teachers may not always be aware of. This motivates the development of methods for analyzing these activities from an ethical point of view. An analysis model has been developed and piloted in the analyses of two different classroom activities. The model is based on theories of communicative ethics and an ethics of dialogicity, drawing upon the work of Jürgen Habermas, Iris Marion Young, and Emmanuel Levinas. The analyses show that norms concerning whose perspective is prioritized and what ethical values are constituted in the classroom vary depending on how the program is organized and how the teacher chooses to use the program. The article also argues that the analytical model suggested might serve as a contribution to both teachers’ own professional, ethical awareness, and to critical studies on what takes place within social and emotional training activities in education. The purpose of this article is to study whether moral stress is a phenomenon relevant to teaching practice and which may make a significant contribution to understanding why teachers repeatedly reported feeling burdened by work. Moral stress can be caused by acting in conflict with one’s own conscience, e.g. when one knows the right thing to do but institutional constraints make it difficult to act in a way that is consistent with one’s morals. The method used in this study is critical incident technique focusing ethical dilemmas in teaching. The findings add a phenomenon to previous research of moral stress in other professions; moral stress can be caused not only by external regulations, but also by internal moral imperatives in conflict with one another. Evidence about how teachers' unethical practices shape and reshape their professional lives is scarcely available. This study employed a qualitative approach in order to gain insights into the extent to which the ethical scandals of teachers affect their profession. Document analysis was undertaken, and 18 respondents from one of the regions in the Southern Highlands of Tanzania were interviewed. Findings indicated that teachers' misconduct compromised their social positioning in terms of their trust and respect, as well as their image of teaching. Lately, in educational research and debate, there have been discussions on a trend sometimes named as a ‘therapeutic turn’ in education. Mindfulness-oriented activities represent one therapeutic approach in education, aiming for virtues such as patience and trust. A large part of the critical viewpoints on therapeutic education among young students seem to concern problems of integrity, privacy and the autonomy of the student. It is therefore, I suggest, fair to say that meetings between teachers and students are of special concern within the realm of therapeutic education. The aim of this study is to shed light upon two teachers' reflections upon their own work and their students' within a mindfulness-oriented approach in a Swedish secondary school. I turn to Iris Marion Young, a theorist who has dealt with questions of communicative ethics and respectful meetings, for guidance. I find Young's concepts of recognition and distance through the act of greetings interesting and possibly fruitful for discussing qualities in teacher–student relations in therapeutic education from a professional ethical point of view. The analysis shows that Life Competence Education has the potential to be an arena within youth education where traditional roles, hierarchies and relations within education may be challenged. This study examined the place of teacher ethics in the curriculum for teacher education. The research was carried out in six districts of Tanzania in East Africa. A total of 78 participants consisting of teachers, curriculum developers, education officers, school inspectors, Teacher Service Department officers, and teacher trainees participated in the study. Interviews and documentary research informed the collection of the required data. Three stages--data reduction, organisation and interpretation-- guided the analysis of the data. The study findings indicate that the place of teacher ethics in the curriculum is insignificantly defined in Tanzania despite its importance in any educational programme. Against this backdrop, the paper argues that the curriculum for teacher education in Tanzania must integrate teacher ethics for teachers to build a sound ethical knowledge base that would allow teachers to perform their work ethically and professionally. Towards this objective, reforms in teacher education in Tanzania must focus on facilitating the emergence of an ethics-oriented curriculum capable of transforming the teaching profession in Tanzania for the better. In our current moment there is a resurgence of interest in pedagogy as an object of research and policy. In this context the Redesigning Pedagogies in the North (RPiN) project sought to improve educational outcomes for students from low-socioeconomic status communities by researching teachers' efforts to develop more connected pedagogies. However, difficulties were encountered during collaborative theory building with teachers. Except for repeated suggestions that pedagogy is 'all about relationships', teachers struggled to develop theoretical accounts of their practice. Using data obtained within the RPiN project, I draw on Massumi's (2002) notion of expanded empiricism and Bauman's (1995) concept of being-for the other to analyze this difficulty. I argue that the condition for pedagogy becoming an ethical experience inheres in an affective dimension of the teacher-student relationship that cannot be translated into a stable object of discursive knowledge. Research on teacher ethics and the moral dimensions of teaching has contributed to extensive and valuable knowledge, which has sometimes led to constructive syntheses of positions. Four research problems which have been elucidated are discussed in this article: the relationship between care and justice, the conflict between the ethics of virtue and the ethics of rules, the relationship between moral education and professional ethics and what is morally significant in the teaching profession. Furthermore, an invitation to renew the discussion and formulate the next generation of research problems is made. Two issues are proposed.
