Introduction: The myth to rejuvenate or to be eternally beautiful is a dream that the humanity has always shared in many legends. Objective: To evaluate the results of lipotransference by assisted decantation with stem cells of adipose tissue for the facial rejuvenation. Methods: A descriptive, prospective and longitudinal study was carried out with 35 patients selected by simple random sampling in the Plastic Surgery Service of Hermanos Ameijeiras Hospital in Havana city, from September, 2019 to the same month in 2022. Results: In the case material, the mean age was of 46,5 ± 11,5 years with minimum values of 34 and maximum 57 years; 48.6% was in the 50-59 age group. A prevalence of the II cutaneous phototype was verified (60.0%); in healthy patients, the highest percentage with aging degree was that of type III (57.1%). There was a prevalence of fine wrinkles in rest and deeper lines with facial expression (40.0%) in those who would receive assisted lipotransference. After the treatment improvement was verified in all the patients; none presented complication. The evaluation of this procedure was good (94.3%). Conclusions: Lipotransference is a minimumly invasive procedure with advantages as for histocompatibility, durability and smaller number of complications; it has a high rate of acceptance. The favorable final result, security and effectiveness are observed in the patient's satisfaction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introducción: El mito de rejuvenecer o ser bello eternamente es un sueño que la humanidad siempre ha compartido en muchas leyendas. Objetivo: Evaluar los resultados de la lipotransferencia por decantación asistida con células madre del tejido adiposo para el rejuvenecimiento facial. Métodos: Se realizó un estudio descriptivo, prospectivo y longitudinal de 35 pacientes seleccionados por muestreo aleatorio simple, en el Servicio de Cirugía Plástica del Hospital Hermanos Ameijeiras de La Habana, desde septiembre de 2019 hasta igual periodo de 2022. Resultados: En la casuística, la edad media fue de 46,5 ± 11,5 años con valores mínimo de 34 y máximo de 57 años; 48,6 % se encontraban en el grupo etario de 50-59 años. Se constató un predominio del fototipo cutáneo II (60,0 %); en pacientes sanos, el mayor porcentaje con grado de envejecimiento fue el de tipo III (57,1 %). Prevalecieron las arrugas finas en reposo y líneas más profundas con expresión facial (40,0 %) en quienes recibirían lipotransferencia asistida. Posterior al tratamiento se constató mejoría en todos los pacientes; ninguno presentó complicación. La evaluación de este procedimiento resultó ser buena (94,3 %). Conclusiones: La lipotransferencia es un procedimiento mínimamente invasivo con ventajas en cuanto a histocompatibilidad, durabilidad y menor número de complicaciones; tiene una elevada tasa de aceptación. El resultado final favorable, la seguridad y la efectividad se observan en la satisfacción del paciente.

7. Perilesional injections of autologous fat graft in burn healing

Introduction: Burns are devastating injuries and the appearance of hypertrophic scars is a frequent complication. The classic treatment of dermal burns offers unaesthetic results in healing; however, the literature reports that autologous fat grafts favor revascularization, epithelialization, and aesthetic improvement. Objective: To determine the results of the application of perilesional injections of autologous fat graft in patients with dermal burns. Methods: A quasi-experimental study was performed, without randomization. A non-probabilistic test was used and the sample was made up of 40 patients in 2 groups: Group I with 20 subjects who underwent injections of autologous fat and the classic burn cure and in Group II 20 subjects with only the classic burn cure. The variables mean epithelialization time, presence of unsightly scars, appearance of keloids and hypertrophic scars were evaluated. Results: The patients in group I, with injections of fat graft, had a mean epithelialization time of 10 days less than the 14 days in group II. In addition, less unsightly scars appeared and a lower tendency to the appearance of keloids and hypertrophic scars. Finally, the patients in the group had a lower score on the Patient and Observer Scar Assessment Scale (POSAS) scale. Conclusions: Perilesional autologous fat graft injections reduce the appearance of unsightly scars, decreasing epithelialization time and improving the vascularization, pigmentation, thickness, relief, elasticity and surface of the scar.

Las investigaciones realizadas durante el último siglo relacionadas con la descripción de la Microbiota Intestinal (MI) sugieren una relación concreta entre su composición y la salud del huésped. Su desregulación denominada disbiosis intestinal ha sido asociada a distintos tipos de enfermedades gastrointestinales, metabólicas, oncológicas e incluso psiquiátricas. Destacan numerosos reportes que han informado la condición de disbiosis en la obesidad, tanto en modelos animales como humanos de distintos grupos etarios y regiones del mundo. A su vez, la composición del microbioma también ha logrado asociarse a las diferentes comorbilidades de la obesidad, postulando que la MI posee influencia en la disfunción del tejido adiposo (TA), entendiendo que corresponde al principal modulador de la patogénesis de la obesidad. Sin embargo, aún no es posible establecer una explicación mecanicista plausible. Actualmente, la utilización de tecnologías multiómicas, junto con la evaluación de variables fisiológicas, nos podrían proporcionar una mejor comprensión a la incógnita planteada. Frente a esto, el presente trabajo tiene como objetivo revisar los últimos avances en la comprensión de la influencia de la microbiota intestinal en el TA y su contribución a los mecanismos relacionados con la patogénesis de la obesidad. Entre los principales mecanismos identificados, la evidenciareporta nexos fisiológicos entre la composición de la MI y la modulación de inflamación, permeabilidad intestinal y adipogénesis. Las vías implicadas derivan de la influencia de la disbiosis intestinal en el accionar de ácidos grasos de cadena corta, claudinas, macrófagos, oligosacáridos, entre otros. Los mecanismos implicados, principalmente estudiados en modelos animales, deberían ser considerados para su evaluación en próximos estudios longitudinales y experimentales en humanos con el fin de obtener una mayor comprensión sobre la implicancia de cada mecanismo en la patogenia global de la obesidad.

El tejido adiposo ha sido objeto de estudio en las últimas décadas y existen nuevos conceptos de su compleja biología. Se conoce que la obesidad está asociada con un estado inflamatorio crónico de bajo grado tanto local como sistémico y parece desempeñar un papel clave en las consecuencias del aumento en diferentes comorbilidades metabólicas y vasculares. De los diversos tipos de células inmunes que contribuyen a la inflamación inducida por la obesidad, los monocitos/macrófagos en el tejido adiposo juegan un papel central. Las modificaciones estructurales y fenotípicas de ambas células pueden contribuir no solo a alteraciones inflamatorias y metabólicas, sino también ayudar a mantener la homeostasis del tejido adiposo en respuesta al aumento de la grasa corporal. Los macrófagos son células efectoras esenciales en la organización de la inflamación, ya que se cree que promueven la progresión de la obesidad y los trastornos relacionados. No está completamente establecido si dichas células ejercen un papel beneficioso o nocivo en el tejido adiposo. En cualquier caso, su presencia modifica la biología de las células adiposas especializadas. En esta revisión se analiza el conocimiento sobre la contribución de los monocitos/macrófagos dentro del tejido adiposo en el desarrollo y mantenimiento de la obesidad y las complicaciones potenciales relacionadas.

12. Utilización del colgajo de bola adiposa de Bichat para el cierre inmediato de defectos quirúrgicos en el paladar. Reporte de dos casos

El objetivo fue describir la utilización del colgajo de bola adiposa de Bichat en el cierre de defectos palatinos inmediato a la resección quirúrgica. Casos clínicos: el caso clínico número 1 (hombre de 60 años) se presentó a la consulta con un aumento de volumen en mucosa del paladar blando, de forma ovoidal, no dolorosa a la palpación, coloración similar de la mucosa del paladar, de 3 cm de diámetro y de 4 meses de evolución que le incomoda para hablar y alimentarse. El caso clínico número 2 (hombre de 61 años) concurre a la consulta con una lesión en maxilar superior a nivel del paladar con diagnóstico patológico de adenoma pleomorfo. En ambos casos, se realizó la resección tumoral y la reconstrucción inmediata mediante el uso de bola adiposa de Bichat. Los defectos fueron cubiertos solamente por el tejido adiposo mencionado, generando una restitución ad integrum de la mucosa oral, evolucionaron favorablemente, sin complicaciones postoperatorias y recuperando la función masticatoria en pocas semanas. El colgajo de bola adiposa de Bichat debe ser considerado una alternativa para reparación de defectos postquirúrgicos gracias a su proximidad, disponibilidad, plasticidad y excelente vascularización, evitando así posibles secuelas relacionadas a la cicatrización secundaria.

13. Identificación de variables antropométricas para determinación de Índice de Masa Grasa como herramienta diagnóstica en Obesidad

Introducción: El Índice de Masa Corporal (IMC) es insuficiente para diagnosticar obesidad. Este documento presenta al Índice de Masa Grasa (IMG) como indicador más preciso para el diagnóstico de esta enfermedad dado su nivel alto de correlación respecto a las variables propias del tejido graso. Objetivo: Identificar las variables cineantropométricas más relevantes para determinar el IMG como herramienta más adecuada para el diagnóstico de obesidad en la población que asistió a consulta ambulatoria. Metodología: El estudio retrospectivo, fue desarrollado con una población de 899 entre los 6 y los 81 años de edad. Los datos fueron obtenidos por bioimpedanciometría (Inbody® 770) durante un periodo de dos años (2017-2019). La información fue depurada mediante la metodología de minería de datos CRISP-DM y analizada estadísticamente mediante el programa estadístico SPSS. Finalmente se relacionan las variables antropométricas asociadas al tejido graso con el IMG y el IMC mediante el coeficiente de determinación (R2). Resultados: Se determinó que las variables con mayor relación con la masa grasa son: circunferencia medida cadera, circunferencia medida cuello, circunferencia medida abdomen y peso. Sin embargo, la importancia de esta relación depende del género. Conclusión: La relevancia de este estudio es el cálculo de masa grasa a partir de medidas antropométricas, para lograr así obtener el IMG y al ser este último específico para el diagnóstico de sobrepeso/obesidad, la implementación de cineantropometría en la consulta de paciente con obesidad es crucial para un adecuado abordaje del paciente, al no contar con la tecnología para determinar composición corporal.

16. Enfermedad de Madelung.

- Abstract
BACKGROUND: Madelung's disease is also known as multiple symmetric lipomatosis, benign symmetric lipomatosis, and Launois-Bensaude syndrome. It is a rare disorder characterized by a progressive, excessive and symmetrical accumulation of adipose tissue in the subcutaneous layer. CLINICAL CASE: A 58-year-old male with an 8-month evolution clinical picture consisting of the appearance of masses in different parts of the body and a considerable increase in the size of the gluteal region. He had a history of chronic alcoholism. On physical examination, accumulations of a smooth and painless consistency were observed on palpation on the external face of the arms and abdomen, and an increase in the size of the buttocks with fatty characteristics with a level of pain on palpation was also evident. The biopsy confirmed the presence of adipose tissue in the lesions and ruled out tumor infiltration, thus confirming Madelung's syndrome. CONCLUSIONS: Madelung's syndrome is a low prevalence disease, which is associated with modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors, within the latter the patient in the case presented was exposed to alcoholism. This is a patient with phenotypic characteristics of Madelung syndrome, from whom other probable differential diagnoses were downloaded and diagnosis was confirmed by histopathological study. 17. Uso de la bola adiposa de bichat como injerto para tratar la recesión gingival

Objetivo. El propósito de esta revisión fue recopilar la evidencia científca sobre los resultados clínicos que se obtienen al usar la bola adiposa de Bichat (BAB) en el tratamiento de las recesiones gingivales. Métodos. Se revisaron las bases de datos online PubMed, Cochrane y Wiley Online Library. Utilizando los siguientes términos de búsqueda: “buccal” AND "adipose tissue” OR "fat pad" AND "coverage" AND "gingival recession". Al combinar las búsquedas y fltrar solo los documentos que contengan el tema objetivo de la revisión en idioma inglés, se generaron solo 9 artículos que cumplen con los criterios de inclusión. Resultados. Se analizó la información encontrada donde fueron usados injertos pediculados y libres con la bola adiposa de Bichat, encontrando buenos resultados en todos los casos; lo que signifca que esta es una buena alternativa autóloga para el tratamiento de las recesiones gingivales, ante las limitaciones de los injertos del paladar. Conclusiones. El uso de la bola adiposa de Bichat es una propuesta autóloga prometedora y representa una buena alternativa para el éxito del tratamiento de las recesiones gingivales.

Human stem cells are born with the creation of life itself and some of them remain throughout life. Therefore, they can be found in adult tissues and used for basic and applied research. Currently, in our country there is a growing interest in the study and application of stem cells; however, little is known about the identification procedure. For this reason, this study aims to present, from a practical point of view, a procedure for the culture and identification of stem/stromal cells obtained from human lipoaspirate (Adipose Stem Cells), for research purposes. This procedure includes the immunophenotype characterization, cell differentiation potential, gene expression and cell culture quality control; and will serve as support for Peruvian scientific community professionals who wish to develop this line of research.

Mammalian adipose tissue was classified as white (WAT) and brown (BAT) according to its morphology and function; WAT is used for energy storage, while BAT is a heat generator that maintains core body temperature and helps prevent obesity. This heat generation is through mitochondrial uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1). It has been suggested, in recent years, that there are two distinct types of brown fat: (1) classically derived from a myf-5 cell lineage and (2) UCP1-positive cells emerging in white fat from a non-myf lineage. -5. It was believed that in humans, BAT was only present from birth to 10 years of age and that BAT and WAT were 2 separate types. But positive cells for UCP1 were found which were named Beige or Brite (BeAT); BeAT resembles BAT in morphology and function, but its development is more closely related to WAT. The synthesis of BeAT, the so-called browning of white fat, has become a topical issue in research on diabetes, obesity, physical exercise, etc. This is due to its favorable effect on the energy metabolism of the whole body and the fact that it can be recruited during adult life. Both BAT and BeAT were shown to be involved in glucose homeostasis, insulin sensitivity, and lipid metabolism, all factors related to the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes.

Introduction: Introduction: propolis and its components influence lipid metabolism; however, its effect on body composition and mineral metabolism remains unknown. Objectives: to determine the effect of natural propolis supplementation on body composition, mineral metabolism, and the endocrine function of adipose tissue. Material and methods: twenty albino male Wistar rats (8 weeks old) were divided into two groups of 10 animals each. The rats were fed two different types of diet for 90 days: a standard diet for the control group (group C) and the same standard diet + 2 % propolis (group P). Thyroid hormones, ghrelin, leptin, adiponectin and insulin, non-esterified fatty acids (NEFA) in plasma, body composition (lean mass, fat mass and body water), and mineral deposition in target organs (spleen, brain, heart, lungs, testicles, kidneys and femur) were assessed. Results: thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) did not show any differences after supplementation with propolis, while ghrelin and adiponectin decreased (p < 0.01 and p < 0.05, respectively) and insulin (p < 0.01), leptin (p < 0.05) and NEFA (p < 0.05) increased when 2 % propolis was supplied, while weight and body fat were reduced (p < 0.05) and lean mass increased. Lastly, the propolis supplement improves calcium deposition in the spleen, lungs, testes, and femur (p < 0.05). Conclusion: propolis supplementation of the diet (2 %) causes a decrease in the secretion of ghrelin and adiponectin, increasing the release of non-esterified fatty acids and the rate of insulin secretion. In addition, propolis supplementation induces an improvement in calcium deposition in target organs without affecting the rest of minerals, which improves body composition by inducing a reduction in weight and visceral adipose tissue, and improvement in lean mass. The adipose tissue, which is currently viewed as an organ with neuroimmunoendocrine functions, participates in the homeostasis of the human organism. It has great plasticity and functional variability based on the intake of nutrients or to the increase or decrease of its tissue volume, which modifies both the function and the number of the cells that form it or reach it. The elements that are released abnormally by these cells, among other cytokines and adipokines, cause both local and systemic inflammation, mainly when they come from the visceral adipose tissue, and they can affect diverse organs like the liver and the cardio-vascular system. It has been pointed out that obesity entails a greater risk for developing inflammatory, metabolic, autoimmune, or allergic diseases, as well as alterations in scarring, and cancer.

Introduction: In Medellín, Colombia, there are no equations to predict the body composition (BC) of athletes expected to have high performance, making it difficult to make decisions related to training and nutrition plans. Objective: To calculate the concurrent validity of five prediction equations for fat percentage (FP) within a group of athletes from the city of Medellin, Colombia expected to yield high performance. Materials and methods: Cross-sectional analysis for diagnostic tests validation with data from a secondary source of athletes under the age of 18 who were part of Team Medellín. The "gold standard" was dual-energy X-ray densitometry (DEXA); the prediction equations analyzed included: Slaughter, Durnin and Rahaman, Lohman, Johnston, and the Five-Component method. The ICC was used to assess the consistency between the methods; moreover, the Bland-Altman plot was used to calculate the average bias and agreement limits of each of the equations. Results: Participation included 101 athletes (50,5% women), the median age being 14,8 years old (IR 13,0 to 16,0). The concurrent validity was "good/excellent" for the Johnston, Durnin and Rahaman and Five Components equations. The Lohman equation, which overestimated the FP in 12,7 percentage points. All of them showed broad agreement limits. Conclusions: For the study population, the Durnin and Rahaman, Johnston and Five- Component equations can be used to predict the FP because they yield a "good/excellent" concurrent validity and a low average bias. The equations analyzed have low accuracy, making it difficult to use them to diagnose the individual FP within this population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Introduction: professional soccer both in the local setting and in other countries is highly competitive, and those who practice must have specific morphological, anthropometric, and body composition characteristics, in addition to constant monitoring of nutritional and training interventions. Currently, the gold-standard criterion for the evaluation of body composition is Dual Energy X-ray Absorciometry (DXA), which is a costly laboratory method with limited use for many professionals. Knowing which field methods obtain similar results to this would allow a better interdisciplinary approach, which could have a positive impact on sports performance. The objective of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of different formulas for predicting fat percentage and fat mass, as compared to DXA, in Colombian soccer team players. Methods: a cross-sectional, analytical study using convenience sampling. A total of 79 professional male soccer players, belonging to 4 Colombian first and second division clubs, were included. Thirty anthropometric variables were measured, wherewith a descriptive analysis was performed using the SPSS v.21 program, and a procedure with analytical scope was carried out to establish concordance indices between different measurements using the Bland and Altman method. This statistical process was performed using the library (BlandAltmanLeh) of the statistical program "R". Results: average age was 23 ± 4.4 years, and the percentage of body fat was estimated using six equations: Jackson and Pollock (7.20 ± 2.58 %), Yuhasz as modified by Carter (7.52 ± 8.50 %), Reilly (10.04 ± 1.43 %), Faulkner (11.23 ± 11.90 %), Pariskova and Buskova (11.08 ± 16.06 %), and Durnin and Womersley (12.41 ± 20,10 %), in addition to the calculation of fat percentage for fat mass using the five-component method (13.17 ± 2.86 %). The percentage of body fat that showed the lowest intermethod difference was fractionation by five components (0.54 ± 3.56), followed by Durnin and Womersley (0.66 ± 3.52). Conclusion: the calculations of fat percentage using the fractionation of 5 components method and the Durnin and Womersley equation were closest to the results obtained by the gold-standard method (DXA) in soccer players of Colombian professional teams. Introducción: El propósito de este estudio fue examinar la relación entre las características de la composición corporal y los componentes del rendimiento físico en atletas de karate hombres juveniles de Chile. Material y métodos: Diseño observacional con 18 atletas hombres juveniles que compiten habitualmente en diferentes categorías de edad en competencias regionales y nacionales. Se evaluó la masa corporal (MC), la masa grasa (MG), % masa grasa (% MG), masa muscular (MM), el salto Squat jump (SJ), el countermovement jump (CMJ), la velocidad lineal en 0-5 m, el cambio de dirección (COD) y la prueba 20meters shuttle run (20MSR). Resultados: La muestra presentó las siguientes características: 16,4 (3,5) años; 167,3 (7,3) cm; 69,5 (11,8) kg; 3 (1) años de experiencia. Entre los principales hallazgos de este estudio en términos de promedio se documentó un incremento de la MC y la MM a medida que avanza la edad. Objetivo. Determinar el efecto de la suplementación con silo de maíz en la expresión de genes asociados al contenido de grasa intramuscular en el músculo longissimus dorsi de novillos Braford. Materiales y Métodos. Se utilizaron 30 novillos Braford. Durante 120 días 15 animales fueron suplementados con silo de maíz al 1% de su peso vivo (Supl), y 15 animales fueron alimentados solamente en pastura tropical (Cont). La faena se realizó a los 26 meses de edad con 464±17 Kg. Mediante la reacción en cadena de la polimerasa en tiempo real (RT-qPCR), se determinó la expresión de los genes transportador de glucosa 4 (glut4), factor de crecimiento tipo insulínico 1 (igf1) y miostatina. La expresión de genes fue asociada con parámetros de calidad de la canal y de la carne. Resultados. La suplementación con silo de maíz produjo mayor expresión de los genes glut4 e igf1. La expresión de los genes estudiados fue correlacionada con el peso de la carcasa caliente, el engrasamiento de la canal y el contenido de grasa de la carne. Conclusiones. Estos resultados sugieren interacción expresión genética-dieta en los genes glut4 y igf1, la cual impactan en el engrasamiento de la canal y el contenido de grasa intramuscular en músculo longissimus dorsi de los novillos Braford, sugiriendo que estas variables podrían ser moduladas a través de la expresión diferencial de los genes.

Objective. The aim of the present study was to determine the effect of supplementing pasturefinished Braford steers with corn silage on the expression level of genes associated with intramuscular fat in longissimus dorsi muscle. Materials and methods. Thirty Braford steers grazing on summer pasture were used for the study. For 120 days fifteen animals were supplemented with corn silage at 1% of body weight per head per day (Supl) whereas the remaining 15 steers only received pasture (Cont). Animals were slaughtered at 26 month of age with 464±17 Kg. Gene expression of glucose transporter type 4 (glut4), insulin-like growth factor 1 (igf1) and myostatin were measured using real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). Results. Supplementation produced increased expression of glut4 and igf1 genes. The expression of the genes studied was correlated with hot carcass weight, fat score of carcass and intramuscular fat content. Conclusions. Results suggest a gene expression-diet interaction in glut4 and igf1 genes, which impact on carcass fattening and intramuscular fat content in longissimus dorsi muscle of Braford steers, suggesting that these meat variables could be modulated through differential gene expression. Introduction: Introduction: body fat reflects important clinical impacts among hemodialysis patients; thus, simple and safe methods are required for a careful evaluation of this body compartment. Objectives: to evaluate the concordance of estimates of total body fat percentage (%BF), calculated using bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) and sum of four skinfolds (SSKD) measures, with those obtained using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) receiving hemodialysis. Methods: a cross-sectional study was conducted in 317 patients undergoing hemodialysis. The %BF was evaluated using BIA, SSKD measurement, and DEXA, and stratified by sex and tertiles. The Wilcoxon test for paired samples was used to compare the %BF obtained using the different methods, and Lin's concordance correlation coefficient (CCC-L) to evaluate concordance. Results: the average %BF estimated using DEXA was 29.3 ± 9.3 %, with significant differences among the three methods (p < 0.05). SSKD measurement presented a higher CCC-L concordance with DEXA, regardless of sex. After stratification of the sample in tertiles, BIA presented a higher CCC-L concordance with DEXA among the patients with CKD with a %BF above 34.4 % (third tertile). Conversely, SSKD measurement presented better concordance with DEXA for those with a %BF equal to or less than 34.4 %. Objetivo: Analizar si existen diferencias sexuales en el crecimiento y la composición corporal de escolares de Tucumán (Argentina) e identificar si la expresión del DS se modifica en presencia de sobrepeso u obesidad. Material y métodos: Estudio antropométrico transverso en escolares de ambos sexos. Diversos genes pueden desencadenar la diabetes mellitus gestacional (DMG), considerada como un problema de salud pública de etiología compleja y multifactorial. Objetivo: presentar una revisión de tema de la evidencia científica disponible sobre el impacto de la expresión de los genes omentina-1, quemerina y miR-1013p, implicados en el desarrollo de la DMG. Materiales y métodos: se realizó una búsqueda de estudios electrónicos transversales a través de la base de datos registrados en MEDLINE y PUBMED, publicados durante 2010-2019, que valoraran mediciones de los tres genes en mujeres con DMG. Resultados: ocho artículos cumplieron con los criterios de inclusión, cuatro artículos midieron los niveles de quemerina, tres de omentina-1 y uno de miR-103p. Entre los niveles de quemerina se mostró que la circulación de quemerina y miR103p se correlacionó positivamente con las variables metabólicas durante el primer y tercer trimestre del embarazo. Se demostró que la liberación de omentina-1 fue mayor en el tejido adiposo vs. placenta cuando se presenta obesidad. Conclusión: la expresión de genes y la presencia de obesidad están relacionados con el desarrollo de la diabetes mellitus gestacional.

Human stem cells are born with the creation of life itself and some of them remain throughout life. Therefore, they can be found in adult tissues and used for basic and applied research. Currently, in our country there is a growing interest in the study and application of stem cells; however, little is known about the identification procedure. For this reason, this study aims to present, from a practical point of view, a procedure for the culture and identification of stem/stromal cells obtained from human lipoaspirate (Adipose Stem Cells), for research purposes. This procedure includes the immunophenotype characterization, cell differentiation potential, gene expression and cell culture quality control; and will serve as support for Peruvian scientific community professionals who wish to develop this line of research. 39. Variable Beige Adipocyte Morphology in Obese Rats by Different Times of Melatonin Administration.

This study aimed to evaluate changes in beige adipocytes at different times of melatonin administration, in the morning (ZT01) or in the evening (ZT11), at 30 mg/kg daily by gavage for 7 weeks or continuously with drinking water in the term of high-calorie diet-induced obesity (HCD). Melatonin received at ZT11 or with drinking water resulted in an increased area of the browning zone in the subcutaneous white adipose tissue (sWAT), even in rats with HCD (compared with Control or HCD, respectively). The beige adipocyte and lipid droplet area after melatonin use were reduced compared to those with HCD and Control, in all administration modes (group ZT01 showed smaller changes compared to ZT11 or with drinking water groups). The fibrosis level decreased and significantly differed in HCD ZT01, HCD ZT11, and HCD water compared to that in HCD; moreover, the lowest value determined in HCD water, reached the control parameters. Furthermore, the IL-1b and IL-8 level was decreased in the HCD groups under melatonin treatment at ZT11 or with drinking water compared to that in HCD. The obtained results suggest that melatonin promotes sWAT browning in rats with diet-induced obesity and influences morphological signs of normal rats depending on the time of administration. Different functional activity of beige adipocytes was observed after melatonin was used depending on the time of administration, resulting in heat production and lipolysis (the relative mass of visceral fat was likewise diminished). More rapid browning was observed when melatonin treatment was performed at 1 h before lights-off (ZT11) or continuously via drinking water. Melatonin acted on beige adipocytes of obese rats through changing some parameters such as the area of adipocytes and lipid drops, the number of lipid drops, the relative area browning of sWAT, and the level of tissue fibrosis. The continued increase in obesity statistics is the result of environmental factors associated with the consumption of foods high in saturated fat. The objective of the work was to evaluate the effect of a high fat diet on food parameters and visceral white adipose tissue. in Male Sprague Dawley rats (n = 10) were used, divided into two experimental groups, the control group received conventional diet (DC) and the experimental group a high fat diet (HFD), for 10 weeks. Body weight, food intake, food conversion and adipose tissue characteristics were determined. Data analysis was performed using IBM SPSS version 21 software; after evaluating the normality of the data, parametric T tests were applied for independent samples and two-way ANOVA for repeated measurements in one of the factors, with Bonferroni adjustment. It was observed that the average weight was higher in animals fed with HFD, without statistical difference with respect to DC, however, there were significant differences in the weight of rats fed with HFD at different times of the protocol, specifically weeks 1.5 and 10 (p <0.001). Food intake was higher in animals fed DC (p <0.005), however the energy consumption was higher in those fed with HFD (p=0.016), which resulted in a higher feed conversion (p <0.005). The average theoretical diameter calculated for adipocytes is statistically higher in the HFD group (p <0.005), which is related to the classical hypertrophy generated after a period of feeding with high fat content. In conclusion, the protocol allows us to establish that, given the higher energy density, HFD induces adipocyte hypertrophy, a characteristic in the obesity process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Obesity has a significant impact on predisposition to various diseases and also affects the viability and choice of haematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) to favour myeloid cell production and/or turnover, all of which are extremely important for the functioning of immune system. As the production of blood cells and mobilization of HSCs and their progeny are regulated, at least in part, by multifaceted interactions through signals that come from the bone marrow (BM) microenvironment, it does not seem astonishing to assume that circumstances that cause alterations in BM structure will unavoidably cause alterations in mesenchymal cells such as adipocytes and lineages from HSCs. The existence of adipose tissue in BM or marrow fat (BMAT) is well known, although its origin, expansion, and functions are poorly understood. Inspired by other studies showing the potential role for olive oil and omega-3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (omega-3 PUFAs) on BM health, and by our own preliminary findings showing the effects of monounsaturated (olive oil) but not saturated (milk cream) dietary fats to contain neutrophils and CD14high monocytes in BM during postprandial periods in healthy volunteers, herein we asked whether dietary fats (saturated fatty acids, SFAs, monounsaturated fatty acids, MUFAs, and omega-3 PUFAs) may be a candidate lifestyle factor to modulate the expansion, composition, and function of BMAT, the infiltration of adipose tissue macrophages (ATMs) in BMAT and the mobilization of HSCs and mature myeloid cells from BM during high-fat-induced obesity in mice. - Abstract
The effect of blackberry juice processed with microwaves and ultrasound on the biochemical and histopathological profile of Wistar rats fed with high-sucrose+cholesterol diet was evaluated. Rats were divided in five groups: control group (standard diet, protein 18.6%, fat 6.2%, carbohydrate 44.2%, n = 7), S group (standard diet+30% sucrose solution), S + C group (standard diet+30% sucrose solution+1 g/kg cholesterol, n = 7). S + J group (standard diet+30% sucrose solution+ 4.2 mL/kg juice, n = 7), S + C + J group (standard diet+30% sucrose solution+1 g/kg cholesterol+ 4.2 mL/kg of juice, n = 8). Non-processed blackberry juice was not tested. Supplementation with blackberry juice decreased levels of glucose in the serum (17%). Also, it reduced the abdominal and pericardial adipose tissue (P =.001) as well as liver, heart and kidney weight (p <.05). Abdominal adipose tissue and liver histology showed that the juice reduced adipocyte hypertrophy and simple steatosis. Blackberry juice processed with microwaves and ultrasound has potential as bioactive food. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Bichectomy is a surgical procedure frequently performed at the present, which aims to improve the contour of the cheeks by reducing its prominence, and indirectly increases the luminosity of the malar eminences. It consists of the resection or reduction of the adipose bag of Bichat, which is an accumulation of adipose tissue located between the masseter muscle and the buccinator muscle; for this there are different surgical techniques both external and intraoral. This article presents the intraoral technique of the trident which seeks to recognize easily visible structures, such as the caruncle of the Stenon canal, the bite's line, once they are located and marked, a line of connection between them is drawn and at the midpoint of the latter, a posterior incision of 1 cm is made, which makes it possible to easily find the Bichat bag and reduce the risk of complications. The lipoma is a benign neoplasm of slow growth composed of mature fatty cells, usually surrounded by a thin fibrous capsule. It does not commonly appear in the oral cavity, corresponding to 0.1 to 5% of benign tumors of the mouth. This article presents the case of a 76-year-old female patient with a lesion on papilla and vestibular area between molars 46 and 47, measuring approximately 1.3 x 1.0 cm. The lesion was nucleated and subjected to histological examination, being compatible with a lipoma. This article describes its clinical features, differential diagnosis with other diseases of the oral cavity, and its respective management.

- Abstract
[EN] Obesity is a multifactorial disease that originates from a combination and interaction of genetic and environmental factors. It is associated with an increased susceptibility to suffer other pathologies such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases or development of different types of cancer. Obesity is determined by an imbalance of energy intake vs utilisation. The excess of energy is stored as fat in adipocytes, which are the main adipose tissue¿s constituent cells. Adipocytes come from a multipotent subset of mesenchymal stem cells that undergo a process called adipogenesis by which they become mature fat cells. Insulin receptor substrate 2 (IRS2) is involved in adipogenesis, being part of the insulin signalling pathway. It has been demonstrated that adipocyte precursors in IRS2 knockout (KO) mice show an impairment in the differentiation into mature adipocytes. Previous works have described the zinc finger protein 423 (ZNF423) transcription factor as a key factor in white and brown adipocytes commitment and differentiation. Preliminary data suggest that ZNF423 could have a role downstream IRS2 in the insulin signalling pathway. The objective of this work was to study if ZNF423 could play a role in IRS2 KO adipocytes differentiation process, which could lead to the identification of a possible target to rescue their differentiation capabilities. To do that, different experiments were carried out. At first, ZNF423 levels were measured by RT-qPCR in IRS2 KO and control mice in fed and fasted states. In addition, to understand the behaviour of IRS2 and ZNF423 during adipocyte differentiation, 3T3-L1 mouse preadipocytes were infected with lentiviruses carrying constructs for IRS2 overexpression and silencing. The mRNA and protein levels of ZNF423 and other genes of interest were measured by RT-qPCR and western blot, respectively. In addition, morphological analysis of adipocytes was performed by immunofluorescence. El exceso de energía se almacena en forma de grasa en los adipocitos, que son las principales células constituyentes del tejido adiposo. Los adipocitos proceden de un subconjunto multipotente de células madre mesenquimales que experimentan un proceso denominado adipogénesis por el que se convierten en células grasas maduras. El sustrato 2 del receptor de insulina (IRS2) participa en la adipogénesis, formando parte de la ruta de señalización de la insulina. Se ha demostrado que los precursores de adipocitos en ratones knockout (KO) para IRS2 presentan una deficiencia en la diferenciación hacia adipocitos maduros. Estudios previos han descrito el factor de transcripción zinc finger protein 423 (ZNF423) como un factor clave en el compromiso y la diferenciación de los adipocitos blancos y marrones. Datos preliminares sugieren que ZNF423 podría tener un papel aguas abajo de IRS2 en la vía de señalización de la insulina. El objetivo de este trabajo fue estudiar si ZNF423 pudiera formar parte del proceso de diferenciación de adipocitos IRS2 KO, lo que podría llevar a identificar una posible diana para rescatar sus capacidades de diferenciación. Para ello, se llevaron a cabo diferentes experimentos. En primer lugar, se midieron los niveles de ZNF423 mediante RT-qPCR en ratones IRS2 KO y ratones control en estado de alimentación y ayuno. - Abstract
El exceso de grasa corporal junto con el sobrepeso y obesidad, es una patología creciente en la sociedad actual, la cual se asocia de forma directa con otras enfermedades crónicas no transmisibles. El principal objetivo de este trabajo es el estudio de la relación existente entre el exceso de tejido adiposo y la enfermedad cardiovascular. Se ha llevado a cabo la disección anatómica del tejido adiposo subcutáneo y visceral para conocer su estructura, junto con la medición de su grosor y su posterior asociación de forma estadística con las enfermedades cardiovasculares, además de la realización de una revisión bibliográfica que soporte la afirmación principal de este trabajo. La cantidad de tejido adiposo depende de la actividad física y la dieta, la mejor forma de prevenir su exceso y el desarrollo de enfermedades cardiovasculares es abordando estos dos factores. Por ello, se ha estudiado la influencia de la Dieta Mediterránea como factor protector frente a este tipo de patologías. Las limitaciones en cuanto al tamaño muestral, entre otras, evidencian la necesidad de seguir investigando sobre el tema para encontrar afirmaciones concluyentes., Grado en Nutrición
