From an artistic point of view, clay has not changed the way it expresses itself creatively. In the latter half of the 20th century clay has become a material used in contemporary art and by totally stripping it of functionality it has, thanks to its plasticity, turned into a vocabulary used by artists. The adventure of terra cotta’s production process and historical identity that has endured for thousands of years in Anatolia since the Neolithic Age as we have witnessed, resumes and takes form in the shape of an art symposium here in the Phrygian Valley keeping the heritage alive. Now it is ‘reproduction, teaching and bringing it into the future in the context of history-city-culture-memory’ with a Ceramic Sculpture City identity. The project is realized through the cooperation between the university, industry and the local administration and it has adopted the name ‘Eskişehir International Terra Cotta Symposium’ based on the notion of ‘urban identity-from local to universal’ testifying to cities gaining identity only through their own production. When artists offer art students the opportunity of an open studio where they can redesign existing culture and artistic experience in a different cultural environment and transfer this to a material and be ‘part of the effort’, there are important experiences to be had. All physical and emotional values that form the urban memory is directly linked to the environment one has lived in since childhood. Everything we touch, see, sense and all the images, streets, buildings, fountains, parks, sculptures we digest are directly linked to the urban identity. Past, present and future.

粘土は焼成温度によってその性質を変える。600℃～900℃の比較的低温の焼成による素焼きの段階では焼き締まる事なく柔らかい風合いを保ち、水を浸み込む性質を持っている。そこからまた温度を上げ、1100℃を超えるあたりで粘士はより焼き締り、その性質は水を浸み込まない硬質な質感に変化する。筆者はこれまで低温の焼成によるテラコッタを素材として制作を行ってきた。そしてテラコッタに様々な描画材を用いて彩色を施しており、彩色効果は重要な表現要素となっていた。近年、筆者はテラコッタの制作だけでなく、高温で焼成する焼き締めの陶の制作も行っている。陶における彩色は焼成後の描画材によるものではなく、陶土そのものが持つ色彩を生かすことにより行っている。この制作ノートでは今まで行っていたテラコッタへの彩色の方法を確認すると共に、現在手さぐりで制作している高温焼成による焼き締めの彩色方法を模索する事を目的としている。また、高温で焼成した陶とテラコッタの比較によりそれぞれの性質への理解を深め、今後の制作の発展の助けになったと考える。, 作品ノート, Works Note

En 2007 et 2009, deux ateliers de production de terres cuites architecturales ont été mis au jour lors de sondages archéologiques dans le nord du Cotentin. Leur proximité et le voisinage de l’agglomération antique du Hameau Dorey, à Montaigu-la-Brisette, soulevaient la question des gisements d’argile exploités et celle de l’approvisionnement du site urbain et des autres sites ruraux alentours, notamment en matériaux de couverture. Le premier volet de cette étude croisée vise à la comparaison technique des ateliers et de leurs productions, en dressant des typologies par grands types de produits. Le second porte sur les déterminations physico-chimiques et pétrographiques des argiles et des échantillons de production collectés sur les deux ateliers, ainsi que sur les lieux de mise en œuvre potentiels : les villes antiques de Montaigu-la-Brisette et de Valognes, ainsi que les établissements ruraux du Nord-Cotentin. En définitive, si la fabrication de tuiles et de briques est globalement standardisée, répondant à des constantes, notamment en termes de dimensions et de façonnages, des différences sensibles sont à remarquer dans les techniques employées et les gisements exploités, même si ces derniers restent difficiles à discriminer (même signature chimique). Quant à la diffusion des produits, elle semble s’être limitée au bassin de la Saire et, donc, ne pas avoir atteint les deux villes connues du secteur, en l’état des connaissances. In 2007 and 2009, two terra cotta workshops were discovered during an archaeological evaluation in the north of the Cotentin. Their proximity to each other and the location of the nearby Roman settlement of Hameau Dore at Montaigu-la-Brisette, questions the clay deposits and the provision of roof elements for the urban site and the surrounding rural settlements. The first part of this study aims to technically compare the workshops and their productions using typologies by product type. The second part tackles the physico chemical and petrographical determinations of the clays and the samples of the production from each workshop and from the sites that would have used these products: the Roman towns of Montaigu-la-Brisette and Valognes as well as the rural settlements in the North Contentin. Finally, if the production of tiles and bricks is standardised, in terms of size and production, there are differences in the techniques and the deposits even if, for the deposits this is difficult to establish (even chemically). The diffusion of the production seems to be limited to the Saire basin and does not seem to have reached the two known Roman towns of the area. In den Jahren 2007 und 2009 wurden zwei Werkstätten zur Herstellung von Ziegeln anlässlich von archäologischen Baggersondagen im Norden von Cotentin freigelegt. Ihre räumliche Nähe und ihre Nachbarschaft zur antiken Ansiedlung von Hameau Dorey bei Montaigu-la-Brisette werfen die Frage nach den dort ausgebeuteten Tonvorkommen sowie nach der Versorgung der städtischen Siedlung und der umliegenden ländlichen Siedlungen auf, insbesondere bezüglich des zum Dachdecken genutzten Materials. Der erste Abschnitt dieser interdisziplinären Studie betrifft den technischen Vergleich der freigelegten Werkstätten und ihrer Produktion, insbesondere die typologische Einordnung der hergestellten Tonziegel. Der zweite Abschnitt beschäftigt sich mit den physikalisch-chemischen Bestimmungen der nachgewiesenen Tonvorkommen sowie von Materialproben, die aus den beiden Werkstätten stammen. Ferner wurde Fundmaterial analysiert, das aus den möglichen Absatzorten stammt, den antiken Städten von Montaigu-la-Brisette und von Valognes, sowie aus ländlichen Siedlungen der Region des nördlichen Contentin.Selbst wenn die Produktion von Ziegeln und Backsteinen generell sehr standardisiert war und konstant den Anforderungen an Größe und Formgebung entsprechen musste, so lassen sich deutliche Unterschiede bei den angewandten Techniken und den ausgebeuteten Tonvorkommen beobachten, auch wenn letztere aufgrund ihrer weitgehend identischen chemischen Signatur nur schwer auseinandergehalten werden können. Was die Verbreitung der Produktion betrifft, so scheint diese in unserem Fall auf das Becken der Saire beschränkt gewesen zu sein. Nach heutigem Stand der Erkenntnisse hat sie die beiden bekannten antiken Städte der Region nicht erreicht. En 2007 y 2009, dos talleres de producción de terracotas fueron desenterrados durante las prospecciones arqueológicas en el norte de Cotentin. Su proximidad con la ocupación antigua del Hameau Dorey en Montaigu-la-Brisette, plantearon la cuestión de los yacimientos de arcilla y la del abastecimiento del sitio urbano y de los sitios rurales de las afueras, en particular para el material de cobertura. La primera parte de este estudio transversal tiene como objetivo comparar los talleres técnicos y sus producciones, mediante la elaboración de tipologías de los principales tipos de productos. La segunda parte concierne las características físico-químicas y petrográficas de las arcillas y de las muestras de producción recogidas en el sitio de los dos talleres y en los lugares de aplicación potenciales: las antiguas ciudades de Montaigu-la-Brisette y Valognes, y los establecimientos rurales de la región de Nord-Cotentin. En última instancia, si la fabricación de tejas y ladrillos está generalmente estandarizada, especialmente en términos de dimensiones y fabricación, hay que notar diferencias significativas en las técnicas utilizadas y los yacimientos explotados, incluso si son difíciles de discriminar (misma firma química). En cuanto a la distribución de los productos, parece estar limitada a la zona de la Saire y, por tanto, no ha llegado a alcanzar a las dos ciudades famosas del sector.

Dans le contexte de l’atelier d’un artiste, le terme de moulage doit être réservé à la désignation de l’opération qui consiste à fabriquer un moule ; l’objet que l’on en tire est une épreuve, étape ou résultat final dans le processus de création d’une œuvre. Partant des pratiques de moulage et de tirage d’épreuve traditionnellement utilisées en sculpture, Rodin a développé, avec l’aide de ses mouleurs, des usages nouveaux, faisant preuve d’une grande liberté (multiplication des exemplaires et des variantes, changement de matériau, assemblage d’épreuves diverses…). In the context of an artist’s studio, the term ‘moulding’ (moulage) should be limited to the operation which involves making a mould. The object produced from this mould is a ‘proof’ or ‘test’ (épreuve), a stage, or the result in a process of creating a work of art. Using the moulding and proof casting techniques traditionally employed by sculptors, Rodin with the help of his moulders, developed a range of new practices, showing great freedom of inspiration: multiplying copies and variations, using different materials, assembling different test casts...

Materials and clayey minerals abound in the Gabon. The pioneers works reveal the presence of red clays in the barrémian series of Agoula and red clays with violets in the neocomian series of Ndombo. Clays constitute a precious and plentiful resource which was widely beneficiated as well in traditional constructions of green clays as in terra-cotta in diverse places of the country. The present researches aim at inventorying the resources in various clays easily accessible in Gabon, and in the study of selection of deposits with application potential, according to the nature of clays. This work is carried on in the regions of Libreville and Tchibanga. The collected samples are the object of macroscopic, microscopic (tiny), chemical, structural and superficial analyses. Trials of formulation are the object of applications in the domains of bricks, tiles and refractories. The population growth of the Gabonese Republic generates a demand in diverse local materials satisfying the needs for the current life. The emphasis is put on the applications concerning terra-cottas: bricks, roof tiles and floor tiles. Zones of interest with economic potential are identified. Clays of the region of Libreville, rich in kaolinites and illite are interesting for applications in terra-cotta. The characterization of the mineralogical properties of the clayey rocks is realized with the aim of identifying the most interesting industrial uses. Characterizations and tests of applications, identify raw materials for the construction, the ceramic, but also in many other domains as pharmacology (galenic), paper industry, cosmetics, food-processing industry, rubber, paint, civil engineering and environment engineering. As in all the countries of Central Africa, the sustainable development passes inevitably by a control of the local resources. The fine characterization of clays of the Cretaceous of Libreville is realized by: X-ray Diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electronic microscopy, determination of the cation exchange capacity, particle size analysis, chemical analyses, plasticity index, ceramic tests. According to the X-ray diffraction, these clays are mixtures of kaolinite, and/or illite and montmorillonite, quartz, ± muscovite, ± microcline, ± hematite, ± rutile ± anatase. The observation in Scanning Electron Microscopy and the treatment with Ethylène Glycol or heating at 550°C in XRD confirms the dominating presence of these minerals; Les matériaux et minéraux argileux, abondent au Gabon. Les travaux pionniers révèlent la présence d’argiles rouges dans la série barrémienne de l’Agoula et d’argiles rouges à violettes dans la série néocomienne de Ndombo. Les argiles constituent une ressource précieuse et abondante qui a été largement valorisée tant en constructions traditionnelles de terre crue qu'en terre cuite en divers endroits du pays. Les présentes recherches sont initiées pour inventorier les ressources en différentes argiles facilement accessibles au Gabon, et dédiées à sélectionner des gisements à potentiel applicatif, selon la nature des argiles. Ce travail a été réalisé dans les régions de Libreville et de Tchibanga. Les échantillons prélevés font l’objet d’analyses macroscopique, microscopique, chimique, structurale et superficielle. 'Kibyra Antik Kentinden Opus Spicatum Döşemeler' başlığı altında kaleme alınan bu tezin içeriği, 2009 ve 2014 yıllarında Kibyra Kentinde gerçekleştirilmiş kazılarla gün yüzüne çıkarılan opus spicatum döşemelerden oluşmaktadır. Bilimsel yayını henüz yapılmamış olan söz konusu döşemeler kent içinde I. Teras Caddesi olarak isimlendirilen alanın doğu stoası ve geç dönem dükkânlarının yanı sıra Odeion / Bouleterion önü geç dönem işliğinin zemininde yer almaktadır. Kent içinde yer alan bu döşemeler alışılagelmiş Anadolu mozaiklerinden farkı olarak pişmiş topraktan yapılmışlardır ve başta balıksırtı motifi olmak üzere geometrik bezeme tasarımına sahiplerdir. Bu çalışmada, sözü edilen döşemeler öncelikle bulundukları mekânla birlikte değerlendirilmiştir. Bu aşamada ait oldukları mimari yapıların tipolojik ve kronolojik değerlendirmelerinin yapılmasıyla döşemenin sahip olduğu işlevsel özellikler ortaya çıkarılmıştır. Böylece işlevsellik üzerine kurulu mekân-döşeme ilişkisi tespit edilmiştir. Ardından bezeme sınıflandırılması yapılarak şimdiye kadar yapılan mozaik çalışmaları ve arkeolojik bulgular çerçevesi içinde yorumlanmaya çalışılmıştır. Ayrıca Anadolu ve Anadolu dışındaki benzer örneklerin incelenmesi sonucunda döşemenin kökeni ve gelişiminin yanı sıra Anadolu coğrafyasındaki yeri ortaya çıkarılmıştır.Sonuç olarak ait oldukları yapıların mimari özellikleri, buluntu kontekstleri ve döşemelerin teknik özellikleri neticesinde İ.S. 5. yüzyıla tarihleyebileceğimiz bu döşemeler üzerinde ilk kez kapsamlı bir çalışma bu tez vasıtasıyla gerçekleşmiş bulunmaktadır.Anahtar Sözcükler: Kibyra, Zemin DöĢemesi, Opus Spicatum, PiĢmiĢ Toprak, Stoa, Geç Antik Dönem The content of this thesis written down on under the title `Opus Spicatum pavements from Ancient Kibyra City` consists of opus spicatum floor pavements which are unearthed in excavations conducted in the Ancient City of Kibyra in 2009 and 2014. The above mentioned floor pavements the scientific release of which hasn't been realized yet hold their place within the city in the East Stoa of the area named First Terrace Street and on the floor of late period shops as well as on the front floor of Odeion / Bouleterion late period workshop. Those pavements sited within the city unlike conventional Anatolian mosaics are manufactured from terra cotta and possess geometric ornament design primarily herrignbone pattern.The pavements mentioned in this paper are primarily assessed along with the location in which they are sited. At this stage, through the typological and chronological evaluations of the architectural structures to which they belong, the floor pavements' functional features are revealed. Hence; the relation based on functionality is identified. Afterwards, performing ornament classification, it is tried to be interpreted in accordance with the mosaic studies and archeological findings discovered so far. Furthermore; as a result of analyzing similar samples from Anatolia and out of Anatolia, the origin and development of the pavement as well as its place in Anatolian geography are brought to light.Consequently, by view of the architectural features of the constructions to which they pertain, foundling contexts and the pavements' technical features, a first comprehensive study on those pavements which we can date back to 5 B.C. is conducted by means of this thesis.Keywords: Kibyra, Floor Pavement, Opus Spicatum, Terra Cotta, Stoa, Late Antique Er 124

本稿では筆者がライフワークとしている彫刻制作について、自己の作品を振返る機会を作ると同時に、学生や学校関係者が彫刻に触れる機会を作り出すという目的の為、学内展覧を試みた事についてまとめている。本展覧会においてアンケート調査を実施した結果、鑑賞者の彫刻や素材(テラコッタ・木・鉄)への興味や関心が、鑑賞前よりも高まった事がわかった。, I tried intramural exhibition about the sculpture work which the writer makes the lifeworks,the purpose of making on opportunity to improve and for school official and many people to appreciate sculputure. The effects of different additions of sodium carboxymethylcellulose (NaCMC) and carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) on viscosity, plasticity and drying behavior of terra cotta bodies were investigated. Relationships between viscosity, plasticity and drying rate, were derived as a function of cellulose concentration. The Bigot curves of drying behavior of terra cotta did not show any curling point for both additions. It was also determined that the plasticity and the drying behavior were found as satisfactory levels according to pure clay at 0.25 wt % additions. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

The anisotropic behavior of terra cotta ceramics is due to the lamellate structure of clay and to the extrusion forming process. In the case of low strains, this behavior is elastic. Digital image correlation was used to give strain field measurements. These measurements allowed to locally characterize transverse isotropic elastic behavior. The consistency of the local characterization procedure is showed by comparing kinematic field measurements on small specimens with fields obtained by 3D finite element Computations.

Bu çalışmada, üslupları açısından Dennis Ressamı'na ait olan altı lahit incelenmiştir. Bu lahitlerden üç tanesi (D.1, D.2, D.3) daha önce bir çok defa yayınlanmıştır. Ancak buna karşın sanatçının stilinin ayrıntılı bir incelemesi yapılmamıştır. Klazomenai ve çevresinden gelen üç yeni lahit (D.4 D.5 D.6), Dennis Ressamı'nın stilinin ve kendisinin diğer sanatçılarla olan ilişkilerinin daha belirgin bir şekilde anlaşılmasına olanak tanımaktadır. Sanatçının erken eserlerindeki figürler, dolgun bir vücut yapısına sahiptirler. Bunun yanısıra söz konusu figürlerin en ince ayrıntılarına kadar işlendikleri de dikkat çekmektedir. Ressamın erken eserlerindeki kompozisyonlar oldukça kalabalık ve gösterişlidir. Sanatçının kariyerinde geçe gidildikçe figürlerin dolgunluklarını kaybettikleri ve incelip uzadıkları gözlenmektedir. Sanatçının kompozisyonları da bu duruma paralel olarak hafifleyip sadeleşmektedir. Dennis Ressamı'nın erken eserleri ile geç eserleri arasındaki stil farklılığının nedeni, kendisinin muhtemelen uzun bir kariyere sahip olmasından ve buna ilaveten belki de belirli kalıplar içinde standart figürler çizmemeye dönük eğilimden kaynaklanmaktadır. Yıldıztepe Nekropolisi'nde anakaya üzerinde ele geçen D.4, nekropolün tabakalanmasına göre, M.Ö. 547/6 tarihinden daha önceki bir döneme ait olmalıdır. Bu lahidin stil özellikleriyle ve siyah figür tekniğini kullanması nedeniyle, yüzyılın ikinci yarısına ait olması beklenebilecek D.5'ten daha erken olduğu düşünülmektedir.D.5 ise D.4'den hemen sonraya ait olmalıdır. Klazomenai, Akpınar Nekropolisi'nde bulunan parçalar halindeki D.6 lahidine eşlik eden herhangi bir mezar hediyesi söz konusu değildir. Bu lahit, hem stil yoluyla, hem de Akpınar Nekropolisi'nin tarihsel süreci içinde muhtemelen M.Ö. 6. yüzyılın son çeyreğinin başlarına veya 530'lara ait olmalıdır. Klazomenai'de eski sistemsiz kazılarda ele geçen D.3, D.2, D.1 örnekleri, erken lahitler olan D.4, D.5 ve D.6 ile olan stil bağlantılarına göre sanatçının geç dönem eserleri olarak değerlendirilmişlerdir. Sonuç olarak, bu verilerin ışığında, Dennis Ressamı'nın kariyerinin M.Ö. 550 ile 520 yılları arasında sürmüş olduğu öğrenilebilir., The main aim of this study is the analysis of the style of Dennis Painter, who was among the prolific artists of terracotta sarcophagi of Clazomenae conventionally dated to the late archaic period. Among the works of the artist, the three sarcophagi (D.l, D.2, D.3) were published and illustrated many times before. Still however, there is no thorough study devoted to artist's career, style and finally chronology. Three new sarcophagi (D.4, D.5, D.6) uncovered at Clazomenae and her surroundings have a significant place in particular for the artistic career of Dennis Painter. These examples offer new insights especially for the development of his style and his place among the other individuals who were also sarcophagi painters. The sarcophagus (D.4) was found in Yıldıztepe necropolis in early 1980s at Clazomenae, plays significant role, for the argument of style and chronology of the Dennis Painter. Overall analysis of excavations at Yıldıztepe necropolis suggests a date earlier than 550 for this piece and also other ornate examples found at a deepest level, directly over the bedrock in the same area. An ornate sarcophagus D.5, which was uncovered in a tumulus in illicit excavations near Ozbek village close to Clazomenae, is rather large in size and have elaborate decoration all over. This example appears to be the early work of the artist and belongs to a stage which allows us to identify his style in panels made in black figured style and also old mannered reserving style. The sarcophagus from Yıldıztepe which has decorations in reserving animal all over should be slightly earlier than D.5, coming from Özbek, which could only be dated on stylistic grounds. Therefore, Özbek sarcophagus should be placed about a decade later than D.4 Finally the last piece (D.6) which was found in the recent campaigns of excavations at Akpinar Necropolis in Clazomenae originally comes from a disturbed burial without any associated grave goods. The sequence of burials attested in this new cemetery at the site, however, suggests a date somewhere in the beginning of the last quarter of the sixth century for this new piece by the Dennis Painter. In conclusion, the overall analysis of Clazomenian terracotta sarcophagi attributed to the artist, suggests an approximate date between 550-520 BC for the career of Dennis Painter.

Archaeological Consulting Services, Ltd. conducted a cultural resource survey of a proposed Salt River Project (SRP) training center at the request of Dr. Judy Brunson of SRP. The survey was performed to provide an inventory and assessment of the cultural resources that might be affected by the proposed construction. Two relatively recent sites consisting of several discrete surficial trash dumps were identified. Both sites are not considered to be significant.
