The official discourse during the communist regime in Romania (1948–1989) has not been paid much attention by researchers and the official visual discourse, addressing adults and children, even less so. My study aims to address this research gap and identify the identity markers of the Romanian territory during socialism by exploring spatial representations and the territorial identity that were produced through official visual imagery. Using qualitative discourse analysis and critical visual methodology, I analyse the visual construction, through discourse, of themes and places created starting with the 1950s and were featured repeatedly during the 1970s and 1980s Romania (the period of national communism), and which constructed and highlighted traits of the country’s territorial identity. To achieve the research aim, I explore three types of research materials and ways of realising spatial education and socialisation through (propaganda) images or a visual pedagogy of space: (1) photographs in three textbooks about the Geography of Romania – a tool in educating people’s representations of their homeland, (2) official (state-produced and distributed) picture postcards reflecting progress during socialist Romania, and (3) comics about work and class identities in Cutezătorii [The Daring Ones] youth magazine – a tool in the edutainment of Romanian communist pioneers. These three official visual discourses were part of a coherent cultural visual discourse about the socialist nation, pervading representations about Romania, about its urban area, and about who the Romanians were meant to have been. The article explores the potential of a discursive approach and the concept of urbanonymic discourse to analyze urban toponymy as a reflection of a city’s image and territorial identity. The authors employ a semiotic perspective, viewing urban space as a text. Within this framework, urbanonymic discourse is defined as a collection of iconic works or microtexts that integrate urban toponyms with their verbal and non-verbal contexts, connected both semantically and spatially. The study identifies two types of microtexts within urbanonymic discourse: monosemiotic and polysemiotic. Monosemiotic urbanonymic microtexts comprise clusters of urban toponyms linked by a common nominative theme. Polysemiotic urbanonymic microtexts, in contrast, are symbolic combinations of urbanonyms and non-verbal elements that are thematically and semantically interrelated. Special attention is given to the phenomenon of urbanonymic “echo,” regarded as a specific form of polysemiotic microtext. In Ekaterinburg’s urbanonymic discourse, key nominative themes include national and regional history, literature, sport, science and education, as well as the city’s distinctive economic activities. Spatial analysis shows that the city center predominantly features microtexts associated with themes of history, governance, business, art, and science, while microtexts reflecting industrial and transport themes are concentrated in specific districts and neighborhoods. The city’s toponymic “portrait” underscores a strong connection to historical roots, an interplay of different eras, and a unique fusion of industry and culture. Microtexts from various parts of Ekaterinburg also evoke allusions to lost landmarks and past urban landscapes. The authors argue that the discursive approach provides a valuable framework for the comprehensive analysis of urbanonyms in other cities. This approach offers deeper insights into territorial identity and holds practical significance for toponymic policy and place branding.

This article explores the features of territorial identity as reflected in the urban toponyms of northern cities in the Ural Federal District. The aim of the study is to assess the current state of the urban onomastic corpus in terms of conveying local authenticity and to outline prospects for its development. The linguistic material consists of urbanonyms from Khanty-Mansiysk, Urai, Salekhard, and Novy Urengoy, which are introduced into academic discourse for the first time. The research employs onomasiological analysis (identifying nomination motives and nominative themes), classification, and linguistic-cultural commentary. Groups of toponyms are described that verbalize nominative themes related to the foundational concepts of territorial identity — TERRITORY and CULTURE. Among the names associated with the concept of TERRITORY, those reflecting regional natural-geographical and natural-historical features are identified. Within the toponyms linked to the concept of CULTURE, names associated with social history and socio-cultural realities are established. It is noted that the embodiment of the concept CULTURE extensively verbalizes geological and industrial themes of nomination, alongside a consistent trend towards nominative commemoration. Based on identified semantic gaps, an informational reserve for creating new urban toponyms is determined. The potential for utilizing underexplored themes in science, art, sports, and the spiritual culture of indigenous peoples of the North for urban onomastic nomination is highlighted.

The article examines how issues of identity construction in Russian urban agglomerations are reflected in the Russian regional politicians’ discourse in mass media. The study concerns theoretical problems of identity construction and the role of regional government bodies in shaping the territorial identity of the population. The specificity of the Russian situation is the absence of governing bodies related to the agglomeration level in most urban agglomerations. The empirical basis of the study is the texts of subnational politicians posted on the official websites of regional government bodies: websites of governors and regional governments, official pages in the mass media. The empirical information on identity policy were collected from the Internet sources (official portals of regional executive authorities, media reports). Discourse analysis was carried out after monitoring social media materials (VKontakte web-pages of regional leaders). The article reflects five cases out of sixteen Russian ones related to the Ural and Siberian agglomerations with a megalopolis core. The empirical data cover the period from December 2022 to the end of 2023. The choice of the time period for analysis is determined by the fact that by this period the most significant factors influencing the policy of our state at present (the pandemic and the Special military operation) have already manifested themselves in full. It has been confirmed that the problems of agglomeration development in the public official subfederal discourse in most cases are reduced to economic problems; first of all, it concerns the development of industry, science (high technology), transport, and waste disposal. In all analyzed cases, insufficient attention was found out, paid to the role of the implemented socio-cultural projects of subfederal identity policy, and also distancing from the discussion of the problems of integration of labor migrants in the public space. Insignificant number of messages from representatives of the regional political and administrative elite about the socio-cultural meanings of the formed agglomerations can become a significant limitation of information support for the agglomeration development of modern contemporary Russia.

Organized crime's governance raises questions about mechanisms facilitating the exercise of illegal authority in society. The present research tested the association between masculine honor ideology and the justification of connivance practices facilitating criminal groups' activities. We examined the novel idea that national identification would attenuate and territorial identification would strengthen such a relationship, reflecting different sources of authority at the national and territorial levels. In Studies 1a and b (N = 398 and N = 399), we measured individuals' endorsement of masculine honor, justification of connivance practices, and national and territorial identifications. In Study 2 (N = 390), we experimentally manipulated the salience of these identities. Results supported the hypotheses that the link between masculine honor and justification of connivance was weaker at higher levels of national identification and stronger at higher levels of territorial identification. This commentary revisits the main elements of Paasi's ideas about the institutionalisation of regions and bounded spaces. It reviews his analysis of the identity of a region and the regional identity of its residents (as addressed in his TESG 2002 article). Next, it discusses how his work on bounded spaces contributed to the reinvention of border studies in political geography and how his innovative conceptual work grounded in and written from Finland, was inspiring for a whole generation of researchers working at the margins of the Anglo‐American academic world. Finally, it reasserts the enduring value of his heuristic framework in a time where the complexity of social spatialisation and of spatial socialisation has greatly increased. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article explores the phenomenon of branding territories in the context of experience economy in its active development in recent years. The relevance of the study stems from a number of reasons. Firstly, there is a need for scientific and practical models of the best development practices of the regions of the Russian Federation. Secondly, the competent branding policies are required in order to revive and develop small towns, as well as to prevent the outflow of employable population to cities. And finally, there is an importance in understanding the impact of experience economy tools on the branding of territories. The subject of the study is territorial branding as one of the forms of the experience economy realization. The purpose of the study is to reveal the process of development of territorial branding in light of the experience economy. The works of local and foreign scientists, as well as materials from specialized websites, online publications on marketing strategies and tools of the new economy are taken into account. Based on a review of the scientific literature, which presents approaches to understanding the specific features of territorial branding and the importance of impressions for customer loyalty, the practical recommendations are offered for the Russian Federation. Promising strategies for forming brands of territories through the use of experience economy tools have been identified. The practical implications and scientific value of the article is in the formulated proposals for improving territorial branding.

This paper aims to link the issue of left-behind places with spatial inequalities and demonstrate how, in these places, different territorial identities have contributed to responding to external shocks. By applying principal component and cluster analyses to a set of Italian mountain municipalities, we identified different typologies of these left-behind places as of the early 1950s and examined how they reacted to external shocks in two subsequent periods (1951–1981 and 1981–2011). The results suggest the changing importance of the cognitive, cultural and relational domains in coping with the different phases of Italian economic development. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Since their origins, rural development programs have considered the county level as the axis on which to implement their development strategies. Taking Tajo-Salor County (Extremadura, Spain) as a reference, this research analyzes the assessment that some of the agents directly involved in the implementation of these programs make of the suitability of the configuration of their territorial scope, as well as the achievement of their objectives. For it, the case study methodology is used, in which fieldwork is carried out where the main source of information will be interviews with promoters of tourism projects. The results show that Tajo-Salor County can be considered as a paradigmatic example of an "artificial" configuration of the territory, showing that, among those interviewed, there is no feeling of county. This has consequences on the assessment that local actors make of the implementation of the development program: those areas that do not feel part of the county have a much more negative assessment of the results obtained than the rest. This is a lesson that this case study offers; the political and technical managers of these programs should bear in mind in the future definition of the territories that apply this type of development strategy. Social identity recently has become one of the actual subjects of scientific research in social psychology, social cognitive psychology. Social identity reflects conscious and unconscious feelings of a person’s belonging to certain communities, is the context for decision-making in situations of choice. The novelty of the study lies in the analysis of little-conscious aspects of identity, namely the subjective significance of communities to which a person belongs by the fact of his birth or main activity, as well as subjective inclusion in such a community. The author has developed a procedure of graphic representation of social identity based on the techniques used in projective drawing methods. The test person is asked to draw himself and five communities (family, occupation group, locality and country of residence, all people of the world) with the help of circles. This experimental procedure was conducted in nine age groups, starting with 6-7 year olds and ending with working adults. A total of 282 people participated in the experiment. The data (21 indicators) were subjected to factor analysis by the method of principal components. The following results were obtained: for each age group the average sizes of images of self and proposed social communities were revealed, using Student’s t-criterion the conclusions about significant differences in the sizes of images of the country and territory of residence for age groups were obtained. Discussion of results and conclusions. Factor analysis by the principal component method revealed four factors of social identity, which were labeled as: multiple, hierarchical, egocentric, and diffuse social identity. The proposed types of social identity were described, their psychological interpretation was given, and criteria for identification by graphic representation were proposed. The results of the study can be used in pedagogical practice, practice of psychological and pedagogical counseling.

This article addresses the issue of representing regional and local identity in urban toponymy. Based on a sociological interpretation of the phenomenon of territorial identity in an urban environment, the authors aim to identify how residents perceive the toponymic / urbanonymic landscape as a translator of local distinctiveness. The study was conducted in the Zaural city of Shadrinsk, founded in the 17th century. The research method involved a targeted survey of residents on the Internet, followed by socio- and linguocultural interpretation of the data obtained. The results of the study allowed for the identification of stable key characteristics in the established image of Shadrinsk among its residents. A discrepancy was found between the need to update the urbanonymic landscape by emphasizing its unique features and the insufficient efforts in this direction. Data was collected on preferred nominative themes for potential names, and new urbanonyms were proposed that could best support the city’s key characteristics and enhance the representation of its regional and local identity.

Land displacement, theft, and erasure have been key drivers in undermining the political, economic, cultural, linguistic, ancestral, and family formations of First Nations people in Canada. Nation rebuilding is the cornerstone of all sovereignty efforts and is a necessary component of improving the social and political conditions that impact health and wellness. Exercising sovereignty is tightly linked to the autonomous assertion of land and resource rights. Discrimination through the Crown’s self-imposed position as the natural owner of all land and resources across the country is evidenced by a continued failure to recognize the many ways that First Nations self-identify. This inadequacy overlooks First Nations’ inherent rights to self-determination while advancing colonial ideologies. This paper presents a thread of qualitative research findings from a project that included an Indigenous storywork method with one First Nations’ Elder and grandmother, kookum. Within the context of her-story and traditional knowledge mobilization, this work challenges the colonially defined territorial boundaries of the hereditary family clan structures across the Temagami region in Northeastern Ontario, Canada. Kookum’s story demonstrates how colonial policies and practices undermine hereditary conceptions of traditional family identity and led to the misguided and unauthorized theft of the Friday family territories. The reconstruction of identity damages hereditary forms of governance and impairs traditional and familial connection to land, culture, language, and traditions, and is 1) incompatible with self-determination; 2) maintains and perpetuates colonialism; 3) hinders genuine reconciliation; and 4) furthers health and socio-economic inequities for First Nations people. Le déplacement, le vol et l’effacement des terres ont été les principaux facteurs qui ont miné les formations politiques, économiques, culturelles, linguistiques, ancestrales et familiales des peuples des Premières nations du Canada. La reconstruction de la nation est la pierre angulaire de tous les efforts de souveraineté et constitue un élément nécessaire à l’amélioration des conditions sociales et politiques qui ont un impact sur la santé et le bien-être. L’exercice de la souveraineté est étroitement lié à l’affirmation autonome des droits à la terre et aux ressources. La discrimination qui découle de la position que la Couronne s’est imposée en tant que propriétaire naturel de toutes les terres et ressources du pays est attestée par l’incapacité persistante de reconnaître les nombreuses façons dont les Premières nations s’identifient. Cette inadéquation néglige les droits inhérents des Premières nations à l’autodétermination tout en faisant progresser les idéologies coloniales. Cet article présente les résultats d’une recherche qualitative menée dans le cadre d’un projet incluant une méthode de travail narrative indigène avec une aînée et grand-mère des Premières Nations, kookum. Dans le contexte de la mobilisation de son histoire et de son savoir traditionnel, ce travail remet en question les frontières territoriales définies par la colonisation des structures claniques familiales héréditaires dans la région de Temagami, dans le nord-est de l’Ontario, au Canada. L’histoire de kookum montre comment les politiques et les pratiques coloniales ont sapé les conceptions héréditaires de l’identité familiale traditionnelle et conduit au vol malavisé et non autorisé des territoires de la famille Friday. La reconstruction de l’identité porte atteinte aux formes héréditaires de gouvernance et compromet les liens traditionnels et familiaux avec la terre, la culture, la langue et les traditions, ce qui est 1) incompatible avec l’autodétermination ; 2) maintient et perpétue le colonialisme ; 3) fait obstacle à une véritable réconciliation ; et 4) aggrave les inégalités sanitaires et socio-économiques pour les peuples des Premières nations.

The paper discusses specific manifestations of territorial identity in urban toponymy. The authors consider the role of the cultural landscape in the formation, maintenance and transformation of territorial identity and the importance of the toponymic landscape in these processes. The novel approach of the research consists in broadening the explanatory framework and combining proper linguistic research methods with semiotic and culturological interpretation of urban toponymy. An original version of a complex multi-vector structure of the toponymic landscape is proposed, including spatial-topographic, semantic, linguo-cultural, sociolinguistic, and memorative aspects. Applying a modeling method to the structure of the toponymic landscape, the authors identify the main components of the semantic field of territorial identity verbalized in urban toponymy. The first (linguistic) level of components suggests the types of motivational semantics that are relevant to render the social and cultural experience of a place. The second level, semiotics of space, explicates the semantic effects of urban objects’ location, their juxtaposition and co-location. The model is validated using the language material of Nevyansk and Kyshtym, two small towns whose history relates to the development of the Ural mining industry. Hence, the research highlights both common and specific local features in the toponymic reflection of the Ural identity. The Nevyansk toponymic landscape maintains the unity of the semantic field of local identity; its core is the remote history of the city. Contrastingly, the toponymic landscape of Kyshtym attests to the polycentricity of regional identity and multiple differential characteristics that form it. The results obtained allow improving the municipal toponymic policy of small towns towards a deeper and more consistent exhibition of their identity.

Introduction. Currently, the development and convergence of virtual digital practices actualizes the need for theoretical and methodological understanding of the transformations of social capital in the urban environment. The purpose of the article is to explore the process of changing the mechanisms for the formation of social capital, based on expert assessments and the results of an analysis of public opinion, as well as conjunctive processes that are being transformed under the influence of the digitalization of urban spaces. Methodology and Methods. The methodological basis of the study consists of the provisions of the social capital theory, the theory of social conjunction; the concept of digitalization of social reality. The empirical base of the scientific article includes the results of a complex of sociological studies conducted by a team of authors of Belgorod State University in 2020–2022. The research data has made it possible to determine the dispositions of various population groups in relation to the social consolidation of urban communities in the context of the digitalization of the urbanized environment, as well as to identify the specifics of values, attitudes and behavioral motives in the implementation of consolidation practices. Results. On the basis of empirical data, it has been possible to reveal that the process of forming and building up the social capital of urban communities has serious limitations that do not disappear in the course of digitalization of the urban environment. On the one hand, this process creates opportunities for consolidation based on social digital platforms; on the other hand, network social capital turns out to be very fragile, since it does not involve “live communication” and does not connect the participants of the interaction with reliable grounds. Discussion and Conclusion. The analysis has made it possible to note that, while creating new conditions for communication and unification of citizens, digitalization also leads to the emergence of new barriers, the most significant of which is the lack of “real life communication”, which prevents the participants of interaction from being bound by reliable grounds. Prospects for further research on the topic under study are related to the development of such criteria that will allow us to assess the sociodynamics of the process of the social capital forming in urban communities, as well as the process of consolidation.

The main objective of the article is to demonstrate the correlation between the lev el of territorial identity of the population and the development of social participation practices. The theory and methodology of the study is based on the works of foreign scientists T. Banini, R. Capello, U. Panzer, who prove the pronounced active position of the population with a high level of territorial identity, and on the concept of “the right to the city” by H. Lefebvre, presented in Russian realities in the works by I.A. Skalaban, E.S. Kochukhova, V.S. Martyanova, E. A. Terentyeva. The main hypothesis of the study: the population with a high level of territorial identity declares its “right to the city” through the practices of social participation, that are manifested mostly in the field of urban space planning, inclusion in the practices of participatory management. In turn, practices of social participation at the local level strengthen territorial identity and boost formation of the attachment to the place of residence. Information collection method: mass survey of the population of the city of Cherepovets, Vologda Region, based on a quota sampling of the population over 18 years old according to the gender and age structure of the city. According to the results of an empirical study, it was proved that the population with a higher level of territorial identity has a significantly greater presence of informal participation practices, especially those related to the transformation of urban space. The practices of helping behaviour are most clearly expressed and the involvement in the activities of public city organisations is more common. It was proved with the help of dispersion analysis that population groups with different levels of social participation practices statistically differ in terms of the level of territorial identity.

Agriculture is an important economic activity across much of the Western world. Beyond its productive purpose, we can also identify a cultural function that is expressed in the existence of a rich heritage associated with the interactions between nature and humans over time. This heritage includes tangible and intangible assets, the latter including traditional knowledge, history, knowledge of natural cycles, and the identification of the local population with its landscapes; in short, resources are understood as a legacy that needs to be reappraised and passed on to future generations. Saffron cultivation is an example of an agricultural landscape with significant intangible heritage values associated with the know-how and the family-run nature of the farms. The resources linked to saffron cultivation in the region of Castilla-La Mancha (Spain) are described in this paper, with an emphasis on how local communities perceive them as an integral part of their geographical identity. The results, following in-depth interviews with different local actors, demonstrate the potential for the intangible values associated with saffron to drive local development in many rural areas once they have been reappraised and classified as assets for attracting tourism.

Every country's railway heritage is very important, given the fact that it represents an important part of a nation's identity. Romanian has a vast network of railways and rolling stock, from steam locomotives built in Resita in the 1900s, to modern day electric locomotives with asynchronous traction motors built by Softronic Craiova. This article's goal is to showcase the reasons why conserving Romania's railway heritage is important, especially when it comes to locomotives. In this article we will analyse Romania's locomotives and their attributes. The results show us that, although locomotives are an important part of Romania's heritage that the country should be proud of, they are not valued to the fullest extent possible.

Key features of the Ukrainian society as an individual political nation have been characterized. The research is based on the election process at the level of the election to the Verkhovna Rada. In the research, data from parliamentary election campaigns held in Ukraine during the 21st century were used. Key markers for estimation of the population’s identity, the problem of language priority, the problem of historic memory, the issue of Ukraine’s unitary formation and its spatial and territorial integrity were determined. The arguments offered and the objective grounds of state integrity worded in the research prove separate, formed and integral nature of the Ukrainian political nation.

Iconography is one of the most powerful ways to express the cultural identity of a community through the creation of symbols that promote its re-evaluation, although it is not always used as a way to promote this cultural development. The aim of this research is to emphasize visual identity based on ancestral iconography as a strategy in the re-evaluation of the Caranqui culture and in the transmission of knowledge about the archaeological site of Gualimán. The methodology consisted of a documentary analysis of the civilization, which was completed with in-depth interviews with the managers and a survey of 295 residents. The obtained results have allowed us to deepen our understanding of the Caranqui culture, identifying vehicles to promote its re-evaluation. Among the conclusions is that the contribution of an identity based on its own symbols reinforces the feeling of belonging and turns its inhabitants into bearers of their own ancestral legacy.

This text seeks to elucidate the notion of identity associated with urban planning and relates it directly to the concept of heritage system, integrating various components of the latter as key factors to support a methodological proposal for an integral reading of the territory that relates time and space as defining axes. A new vision of the concept of heritage, far from a monumental conception, necessarily requires new ways of reading it, observing it, tracking it and keeping record of it. The characteristic elements of the identity that this text exposes, allow an objective search, traces, facts, symbols and manifestations that, beyond the institutional declarations of heritage, legitimize a cultural relationship of a community with its territory and materialize as manifestation, evidence and consolidation over time in the heritage system. This paper deals with the results of the "SavingScapes" research project, where Girona (SP) and Genoa (IT) areas were chosen as case studies to assess the role and relevance of civil society in landscape alteration and conservation. These contexts share many features which led to similar transformative pressures and consequent deeply rooted place attachment clashing in the form of social mobilizations. Nevertheless, the civil society approach and actions proved profoundly different. Hence, there is a need to define a shared methodology to make them comparable. The Recueil et abbregé de certaines choses concernans le gouvernement des pays de Daulphiné et Savoye is an anonymous manuscript from the middle of the 16th century that offers a description of the Dauphinois and Savoyard space for the new French governor, François de Lorraine. Set in the context of the Italian wars, which saw the conquest and dismemberment of the Duchy of Savoy, it allows us to approach the way in which an original territory can be constituted and singled out in the early modern period. As object, the Recueil et abbregé appears as an intellectual arrangement of the Dauphin-Savoyard territory, offering the governor's eye an overhanging view of the area over which he exercises his authority. The main characteristic of this is the union of two entities, breaking with several centuries of antagonism. The existence of the Dauphiné-Savoie is affirmed, represented and justified. This discourse was coupled with the identification of several characteristics specific to the territory, which contributed to its definition, sketching out on paper a singular territory, a space of openness and closure at the service of the Valois and their Italian ambitions. But the intellectual construction was achieved despite the circumstances and the Dauphiné-Savoie became an impeded territory, a political project without much reality on the ground and to which the restitution of Savoy by the treaty of Cateau-Cambrésis in 1559 put a definitive stop. Agriculture is an important economic activity across much of the Western world. Beyond its productive purpose, we can also identify a cultural function that is expressed in the existence of a rich heritage associated with the interactions between nature and humans over time. This heritage includes tangible and intangible assets, the latter including traditional knowledge, history, knowledge of natural cycles, and the identification of the local population with its landscapes; in short, resources are understood as a legacy that needs to be reappraised and passed on to future generations. Saffron cultivation is an example of an agricultural landscape with significant intangible heritage values associated with the know-how and the family-run nature of the farms. The resources linked to saffron cultivation in the region of Castilla-La Mancha (Spain) are described in this paper, with an emphasis on how local communities perceive them as an integral part of their geographical identity. The results, following in-depth interviews with different local actors, demonstrate the potential for the intangible values associated with saffron to drive local development in many rural areas once they have been reappraised and classified as assets for attracting tourism. The present study, which aims at a historical-geographical entity of "land" type, aims to highlight some elements of territorial, local identity that underlie the definition of the Oaș Land. For this purpose, an important component of an event in the life of the community, namely the wedding, with an emphasis on a "the bride of preparing", from the perspective of local identity, were analyzed in terms of literature. From a methodological point of view, the main defining elements of a wedding were targeted, namely : the flag, the bride of preparing and the dance of the bread. The analysis of this festive event highlights the fact that the wedding and the bride of preparing is a strong identity element for Oaș.

Since their origins, rural development programs have considered the county level as the axis on which to implement their development strategies. Taking Tajo-Salor County (Extremadura, Spain) as a reference, this research analyzes the assessment that some of the agents directly involved in the implementation of these programs make of the suitability of the configuration of their territorial scope, as well as the achievement of their objectives. For it, the case study methodology is used, in which fieldwork is carried out where the main source of information will be interviews with promoters of tourism projects. The results show that Tajo-Salor County can be considered as a paradigmatic example of an “artificial” configuration of the territory, showing that, among those interviewed, there is no feeling of county. This has consequences on the assessment that local actors make of the implementation of the development program: those areas that do not feel part of the county have a much more negative assessment of the results obtained than the rest. This is a lesson that this case study offers; the political and technical managers of these programs should bear in mind in the future definition of the territories that apply this type of development strategy.

This article deals with the problem of constructing a territorial identity in modern media discourse based on interviews in popular YouTube video blogs. A discourse analysis methodology is used in accordance with the constructivist approach, as well as an individualistic approach to identity. Meanings associated with territorial identity are considered in such practices of character construction as the choice of a character type, presentation of an autobiographical narrative, and valuable self-identification which is topical for YouTube interviews. The results of the study (which included 50 interviews conducted in 2017-2020) are presented. The analysis shows that personal attachment to a territory can be discussed as the result of a meaningful choice within a framework of individual self-realization or as a result of a combination of external circumstances. Identity thematization is not associated with any specific type of character in media discourse. Territorial identification is primarily significant in the context of autobiographical narratives, including with respect to changes in place of residence and demonstration of the individual's motivations in life and significant values. Drawing inspiration from the case of the Molise region and the well-known story with which it is associated, non-existence, this article aims to reflect on the theoretical lines and possible methodological directions for analysing the processes of identity configuration of territories. The concepts of region and identity, in their similarities, represent a valid starting point for critical analysis. Territorial identity, in particular, finds its foundations in association with the adjectives relational and narrative. Multiple narratives inform it and build the sense of belonging of Molise's inhabitants. Discussing the way in which the region is narrated means wading through complex historical events and a constant co-production of places and myths. The latter, understood as low-intensity mythical narratives, are nowadays modified in the cyberplace. Therefore, discourse analysis and the combination of several methods are essential tools to follow the traces of the practices carried out by a hypothesized Molisian onlife sociotopia, such as the opinion of the inhabitants, news and information found on the web and internet memes. The answer to the proposed research question, "How can discourses and narratives about the non-existent Molise play a role in the construction of the territorial identity of Molise and the sense of belonging of the Molise people?" could thus reveal two regimes of truth, often understood as factual: the non-existence and, equally, the existence of the Molise region. Iconography is one of the most powerful ways to express the cultural identity of a community through the creation of symbols that promote its re-evaluation, although it is not always used as a way to promote this cultural development. The aim of this research is to emphasize visual identity based on ancestral iconography as a strategy in the re-evaluation of the Caranqui culture and in the transmission of knowledge about the archaeological site of Gualimán. The methodology consisted of a documentary analysis of the civilization, which was completed with in-depth interviews with the managers and a survey of 295 residents. The obtained results have allowed us to deepen our understanding of the Caranqui culture, identifying vehicles to promote its re-evaluation. Among the conclusions is that the contribution of an identity based on its own symbols reinforces the feeling of belonging and turns its inhabitants into bearers of their own ancestral legacy. The geography of the brewing industry is currently undergoing substantial shifts. While most attention has been paid to the boom of microbreweries, newly established regional breweries have been neglected and little is known about how they are gaining a position among consumers in stable and saturated markets. The aim of this article is to investigate what strategies new breweries use to establish distribution regions and which factors are at play based on the consumers' economic and socio-cultural preferences, all within the contextual influence of market development and territorial identity. The research is based on the mapping of distribution regions of seven new Czech breweries and interviews with their representatives. The breweries first opt for a contagion strategy focusing on local customers to provide a basis for further expansion. The hierarchy strategy with a preference for wealthier customers in distant cities subsequently prevails. The choice and success of the chosen strategy depend on the interaction between regional market development and consumers' territorial identity. In Czechia, local breweries, especially those that have restored and maintained historic brewery buildings, are attracting consumers from cities, while consumers from the countryside prefer nationally known beer from big industrial breweries. The image of the city is a subject that preoccupies researchers, essentially for what it reveals about material and mental representations and insofar as it becomes a “brand image” of a territory. These images interest us because they give rhythm to the socio-spatial evolutions of a given territory and form strata of knowledge specific to each period. Thus, it is possible to reveal the strategic shift made by the actors of Chefchaouen in order to build a specific image, which will become its “official brand” in 2013, with the slogan: “The Blue Pearl”, and to erase the image associated with cannabis cultivation. The shift from a plurality of representations to a single image reflects the desire of the dominant elite to turn the production of this new image of the city into an asset, due to its identity and heritage dimensions, for political and economic interests.
