Objective: To study the histomorphological changes in postmortem needle biopsy/autopsy lung in COVID-19 Patients. Study Design: This was an observational study done at Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College & Research Institute, Bengaluru, and Karnataka from March 2021 to May 2021. Methodology: A total of 30 patients who died of Covid-19 were included and all of them were diagnosed to be Covid -19 positive by RT-PCR testing. Post-mortem transthoracic needle biopsy was done to obtain lung tissue by using B-Bard biopsy gun in midaxillary approach. The biopsy samples were grossed and processed after fixing for 48hrs. The slides obtained were stained by routine hematoxylin and eosin stain, studied for morphology of the lung tissue and findings were recorded. Results: We obtained consent for post-mortem transthoracic needle biopsy/autopsy of lung in 30 deceased cases. All these cases were positive for SARS -COV2 on RT-PCR. The age of the cases was ranging from 26-72 years and median age is 53years, males (63.3%) were affected more than females (36.7%). Most deceased had comorbidities, among them diabetes mellitus (26.6%) and hypertension (26.6%) were most common. Lung biopsy samples were taken from 30 deceased patients. Histomorphological feature of diffuse alveolar damage was seen in 90% (27 out of 30) cases. Other findings noted on microscopy were chronic interstitial inflammation in 6.7% cases, pulmonary edema (3.33%), intra alveolar haemorrhage (3.33%) and viral cytopathic changes (3.33%). Conclusion: This study highlighted the pulmonary morphological changes which are most prominent in COVID-19 infections, but it was a difficult to ascertain that the findings are related to viral infection or due to associated coomorbidities. (1) Objective: Lung cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer death among men and women across the globe. The accurate and timely diagnosis of lung lesions is of paramount importance for prognosis. This single-center study is the first to assess the diagnostic yield and complication rate of a computed tomography (CT)-guided needle biopsy of pulmonary parenchymal and pleural nodules in an academic training center in the United States. (2) Methods: This is a retrospective study approved by IRB. Patients who underwent CT-guided needle biopsy between 2016 and 2020 were reviewed. A CT-guided needle biopsy involving mediastinal lesions was excluded, focusing only on lung parenchymal and pleural lesions. A CT-guided needle biopsy aborted at any point during the procedure was also excluded from this study. (3) Results: 1063 patients were included in this study; 532 were males, and 531 were females. Lesion size ranged from 0.26 cm to 9.2 cm. 1040 patients received diagnoses, among which 772 had a specific diagnosis, and 268 had nonspecific inflammatory or non-malignant diagnoses. Twenty-three cases were non-diagnostic. Among the patients with specific diagnoses, 691 were malignant, 5 were hamartomas, 30 were fungal infections, 6 were acid-fast-positive organisms, and 40 were unspecified atypical cells. Of the patients that had a malignant diagnosis, 317 were adenocarcinoma, 197 were squamous cell carcinoma, 26 were a neuroendocrine tumor, 45 were non-small cell carcinoma (undifferentiated), 17 were small cell carcinoma, and 89 were other metastatic malignancies to the lung. Various common complications, including pneumothorax (337), hemorrhage (128), and hemoptysis (17), were observed, and 42 of the cases required chest tube intervention; others were treated with observation. Other rare complications observed included hemothorax (4) and oxygen desaturation (2), and there was no death in this series. (4) Conclusions: CT-guided needle biopsy is a reliable diagnostic modality for patients with lung parenchymal and pleural nodules, and it can effectively distinguish between benign and cancerous lesions before invasive procedures such as video-assisted thoracoscopy (VATs) or thoracotomy are planned. Our study showed a higher rate of pneumothorax and pulmonary hemorrhage compared to the rates established in guidelines, attributable to the varying experience level in a busy training academic center. Background: Lung nodule incidence is increasing. Many nodules require biopsy to discriminate between benign and malignant causes. The gold standard for minimally invasive biopsy, CT scan-guided transthoracic needle biopsy (CT-TTNB), has not been compared directly with navigational bronchoscopy, a method that recently has seen rapid technological innovation and is associated with improving diagnostic yield and lower complication rates. Current estimates of the diagnostic usefulness of both methods are based largely on noncomparative data with significant risk for selection, referral, and publication biases. Research Question: Is contemporary navigational bronchoscopy noninferior to CT scan-guided transthoracic needle biopsy for the diagnosis of indeterminate pulmonary nodules? Study Design and Methods: Navigation Endoscopy to Reach Indeterminate Lung Nodules vs Transthoracic Needle Aspiration, a Randomized Controlled Study, is a multicenter, 1:1 randomized, parallel-group trial designed to ascertain whether electromagnetic navigational bronchoscopy with integrated digital tomosynthesis is noninferior to CT-TTNB for the diagnosis of peripheral lung nodules 10 to 30 mm in diameter with before testing probability of malignancy of at least 10%. The primary end point is diagnostic accuracy through 12 months of follow-up. Secondary end points include diagnostic yield, complication rate, procedure duration, need for additional invasive diagnostic procedures, and radiation exposure. Results: This article describes the protocol and rationale for the Navigation Endoscopy to Reach Indeterminate Lung Nodules vs Transthoracic Needle Aspiration, a Randomized Controlled Study, designed to answer the study question. Interpretation: The results of this rigorously designed trial will provide high-quality data regarding the management of lung nodules, a common clinical entity that often represents the earliest and most treatable stage of lung cancer. Several design challenges are described. Notably, all nodules are reviewed centrally by an independent interventional pulmonology and radiology adjudication panel relying on prespecified exclusions to ensure enrolled nodules are amenable to sampling by both methods while protecting against selection bias favoring either method. Conservative diagnostic yield and accuracy definitions with prespecified criteria for what nonmalignant findings may be considered diagnostic were chosen to avoid inflation of estimates of diagnostic usefulness. Key message Ultrasound‐guided transthoracic needle biopsy is a relatively safe procedure diagnosing subpleural pulmonary mass and has high sensitivity in the diagnosis of lung cancer. However, the usefulness in other rare malignancies is unknown. This case shows the effectiveness in diagnosing not only lung cancer but also rare malignancies including primary pulmonary lymphoma.

Objective: To provide recent population-based estimates of transthoracic needle biopsy (TTNB) complications and risk factors associated with these complications.Methods: This retrospective cohort analysis included adults from a nationally representative longitudinal insurance claims data set who underwent TTNB in 2017 or 2018. Complications that were evaluated included pneumothorax, hemorrhage, and air embolism. Separate logistic regression models estimated the association of pneumothorax or hemorrhage with the setting of care (ie, inpatient or outpatient) and selected baseline patient demographic and clinical characteristics including age, gender, history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diagnosis of pleural effusion, tobacco use, use of oral anticoagulants and antiplatelet agents, prior lung cancer screening, previous bronchoscopy within 1 year, and Elixhauser comorbidity index.Results: Among 16,971 patients who underwent TTNB, 25.8% experienced a complication within 3 days of the procedure (pneumothorax 23.3%, hemorrhage 3.6%, and air embolism 0.02%). Among patients who experienced pneumothorax, 31.9% required chest tube drainage. Among patients undergoing an outpatient TTNB (n = 12,443), 6.9% were hospitalized within 7 days. Biopsy in an inpatient setting, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease diagnosis, and prior bronchoscopy were associated with higher rates of both pneumothorax and hemorrhage. Prior lung cancer screening was associated with an increased risk of pneumothorax, and prior use of oral anticoagulants or antiplatelets was associated with higher rates of hemorrhage.Conclusion: This contemporary population-based cohort study demonstrated that approximately one-quarter of patients undergoing TTNB experienced a complication. Pneumothorax was the most frequent complication, and hemorrhage and air embolism were rare. Among outpatients, complications from TTNB are an important cause of hospitalization. Although transthoracic needle biopsy (TTNB) was introduced for lung biopsy about 40 years ago, it is still mainstay of pathologic diagnosis in lung cancer, because it is relatively inexpensive and can obtain tissue regardless of the tumor-bronchus relationship. With several technological advances, proceduralists can perform TTNB more safely and accurately. Utilizing ultrasound-guided biopsy for peripheral lesions in contact with the pleura and rapid on-site evaluation during the procedure are expected to make up the weakness of TTNB. However, due to the inherent limitations of the percutaneous approach, the incidence of complications such as pneumothorax or bleeding is inevitably higher than that of other lung biopsy techniques. Thorough understating of each biopsy modality and additional technique are fundamental for maximizing diagnostic accuracy and minimizing the complications.

Aim: The present study aimed to demonstrate that computed tomography-guided transthoracic needle biopsy (TTNB) is a safe procedure that gives a more accurate pre-operative tissue diagnosis for peripheral lung nodules than transthoracic needle aspiration, obtaining suitable samples for molecular test in lung adenocarcinomas. Patients & methods: Between December 2016 and March 2018 at Thoracic Surgery Department of the University of Palermo - Policlinico Paolo Giaccone hospital, TTNB was performed in 42 patients with computed tomography-detected peripheral lung nodules >10 mm, using 16-18-Gauge Tru-Cut needles. Results: With TTNB, we have estimated an accuracy for tissue diagnosis of 97.6%. At the molecular test, EGFR overexpression and ALK mutation resulted positive for 12/23 patients with lung adenocarcinoma. (1) Background: Despite the high accuracy of CT-guided transthoracic biopsy for diagnosis of pulmonary lesions, in a certain amount of cases biopsy results may indicate the presence of nonspecific findings or insufficient material. We aimed to investigate the effectiveness of CT-guided transthoracic biopsy of pulmonary lesions in providing a specific diagnosis and to analyze the variables affecting biopsy results. (2) Methods: In this retrospective study, a total of 170 patients undergoing 183 CT-guided transthoracic biopsies of pulmonary lesions were included. The clinical, radiological and pathological data were reviewed to classify biopsy results as diagnostic or nondiagnostic and to identify which variables were associated with the two groups. (3) Results: The biopsy results were diagnostic in 150 cases (82.0%), of which 131 (87.3%) positive for malignancy and 19 (12.7%) with specific benign lesions, and nondiagnostic in 33 cases (18.0%). Twenty-two of the thirty-three (66.7%) nondiagnostic cases were finally determined as malignancies and eleven (33.3%) as benign lesions. In the diagnostic group, all the 131 biopsies positive for malignancy were confirmed to be malignant at final diagnosis (87.3%); of 19 biopsies with specific benign lesions, 13 cases were confirmed to be benign (8.7%), whereas six cases had a final diagnosis of malignancy (4%). Multivariate analysis showed increased risk of nondiagnostic biopsy for lesions ≤ 20 mm (p = 0.006) and lesions with final diagnosis of benignity (p = 0.001). (4) Conclusions: CT-guided transthoracic lung biopsy is an effective technique for the specific diagnosis of pulmonary lesions, with a relatively acceptable proportion of nondiagnostic cases. Small lesion size and final benign diagnosis are risk factors for nondiagnostic biopsy results.

Objective To investigate the efficacy and safety of computed tomography-guided transthoracic needle biopsy( CT-guided TNB), and to explore the strategies for more diagnostic yield and lower complications. Methods Totally120 cases who underwent CT-guided TNB were enrolled. The CT images were analyzed carefully and the optimal approach was selected. The lung biopsy was performed with Argon coaxial trocar and biospsy needle. Artificial pneumothorax was established if necessary. In some cases, the combination of the CT and PET/CT-guided TNB was applied. The puncture success rate, diagnostic yield and the complications were assessed. The key points of procedure were studied. Results In120 patients, 130 times of procedure were performed. 1, 2 and 3 times of procedure were performed respectively on 111, 8, and 1 patients. Totally 127 times of procedure were successful. The procedure success rate was 97. 69%( 127/130).In 120 patients, 119 patients achieved accurate diagnosis, which included 82 cases of lung cancer, 9 cases of tuberculosis, 9 cases of non-specific pneumonia, 6 cases of organizing pneumonia, 4 cases of fungal pneumonia, 4 cases of vasculitis, 2 cases of sarcoidosis, 2 cases of lymphoma and 1 case of eosinophilic pneumonia, with the diagnostic rate of 99. 17%( 119/120). Twelve nodes with diameters < 1 cm were punctured successfully, with the minimum diameter of 0. 7 cm. One case with discreted lesion was punctured successfully with artificial pneumothorax which concentrated the lesion; 2 cases of lesions adjacent to heart and large vessel were punctured successfully with artificial pneumothorax which separated the lesions from heart or large vessel; 7 cases with initial pathologic finding of inflammation by CT-guided TNB and poor anti-inflammation were proved finally to be lung cancer by combining with PET-CT guided pre-procedure. Twenty-four of 120 cases had complications. The incidence of complication was 20%, which included 11 cases of pneumothorax, 8 cases of hemoptysis, 2 cases of pleural infection, and 2 cases of hemothorax. No fatal complications occurred. Conclusions CT-guided TNB is an accurate, effective and safe measure. The key points of procedure include analyzing CT images carefully to select the optimal approach away from vessels and bullae of lung pre-procedure, using Argon coaxial trocar and biospsy needle, applying artificial pneumothorax for the lesions adjacent to heart and large vessels and discreted lesion, and combining with PET-CT guided positioning for the mixture lesions with malignant and inflammation. Lung transplant remains an important treatment option for patients with end-stage lung diseases providing improvement in survival rates and quality of life. Specialized considerations should be applied with interventions of lung transplant recipients as they host specific anatomic variations and high risk towards certain complications. In this article, we highlight the role of interventional radiology for lung transplant recipients along with discussion of interventional techniques. Specific emphasis is placed on describing and explaining the techniques pertained to the points of anastomosis, diagnosis and treatment of malignancies, and management of complications in lung transplant recipients. Background: The evaluation of patients with lung lesions is challenging. The nature of the lesion can be determined by pathological evaluation of biopsies. The pulmonologists will be met by increasing demands with regard to biopsy techniques including ultrasound-guided transthoracic needle biopsy (US-TTNB).Objective: The aim of this paper is to present the pulmonologist to a systematic step-by-step guide for performing US-TTNB and to assess the evidence for this approach. Method/results: Indications, contraindications and a step-by-step guide for the techniques used when performing US-TTNB are presented, and major complications and handling of these are described. Conclusion: US-TTNB performed by pulmonologists is a safe and feasible procedure.

Ultrasound-guided transthoracic needle biopsy (USgTTNB) can only be used for peripheral tumours that contact the pleura. Sonographic accessibility of the entire lung can be achieved using one-lung flooding. In this study, feasibility, sensitivity and complication rate of USgTTNB of lung nodules after one-lung flooding in an ex vivo and in vivo lung tumour model were assessed. USgTTNB was performed ex vivo after one-lung flooding in 10 resected human lung lobes containing carcinoma or metastasis. USgTTNB after one-lung flooding and simulation of a lung nodule was conducted in vivo in 5 animals. Transthoracic sonography and chest X-ray were obtained 30 min after reventilation. The lungs were examined macroscopically and histopathologically. The pathologic diagnosis was confirmed in 85.7% and 100% of tumours after first and second puncture attempts, respectively. The successful puncture rate in vivo was 90%. Neither pneumothorax nor bleeding was observed. One-lung flooding enables USgTTNB of lung nodules with a high sensitivity and minimal risk of complications in a pre-clinical model. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Percutaneous computerized tomography-guided lung biopsy is a valuable tool in the evaluation of pulmonary lesions because it is minimally invasive and has a high degree of accuracy. However, this procedure is not without its risks, the most common of which is pneumothorax. This article includes an overview of preprocedure planning, contraindications, patient preparation, informed consent, patient positioning, sedation, breathing instructions, recovery after procedure, potential complication, and recovery at home. Abstract: The purpose of this study was to assess the diagnostic yield and complications of CT‐guided transthoracic needle biopsy (TTNB) after lung transplantation. A database search identified all TTNB performed in lung transplant patients over a 14‐year period. Forty‐two biopsies in transplant patients (transplant group) were identified and matched to the next biopsy performed in native lungs by the same operator (nontransplant group) as a control. Primary outcomes recorded were diagnosis, diagnostic yield, pneumothorax requiring intervention, and symptomatic pulmonary hemorrhage. Biopsy outcomes were classified as diagnostic, not specifically diagnostic, and nondiagnostic. Patients in the transplant group were younger (P < .002). Emphysema along the biopsy trajectory was more commonly seen in the nontransplant group (P < .0006). Needle gauge, size of lesion, pleural punctures, lesion depth, and number of passes were not significantly different. Diagnostic yield was 71% in the transplant group and 91% in the nontransplant group. There were 20 of 42 (48%) malignant nodules in the transplant group compared to 31 of 44 (70%) nodules in the nontransplant group (P = .05). There were no complications in the transplant group. The nontransplant group had two pneumothoraces requiring intervention. TTNB after lung transplant is safe with a moderate diagnostic yield. Objectives The relationship between transthoracic needle biopsy (TTNB) and pleural recurrence of cancer after curative lung resection remains unclear. We aimed to assess whether TTNB increases the ipsilateral pleural recurrence (IPR) rate and identify other potential risk factors for pleural recurrence after surgery. Materials and methods This retrospective study included 392 patients with p-stage I non-small cell lung cancer with solid or part-solid nodules after curative lung resection in 2009–2010. Imbalances among the characteristics were adjusted using an inverse probability-weighted method based on propensity scoring. Multivariate Cox’s regression analysis and the Kaplan-Meier method were used to determine independent risk factors for IPR. Results A total of 243 (62%) patients received TTNB, while 149 (38%) underwent an alternate, or no, diagnostic technique. IPR was significantly more frequent in the TTNB group (p = 0.004), while total recurrence was similar between the groups (p = 0.098). After applying the weighted model, diagnostic TTNB (hazard ratio [HR], 5.27; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.49–18.69; p = 0.010), microscopic visceral pleural invasion (HR, 2.76; 95% CI, 1.08–7.01; p = 0.033) and microscopic lymphatic invasion (HR, 3.25; 95% CI, 1.30–8.10; p = 0.012) were associated with an increased frequency of IPR. Among patients who received TTNB, microscopic lymphatic invasion was a risk factor for IPR (HR, 2.74; 95% CI, 1.10–6.79; p = 0.030). Conclusions The diagnostic TTNB procedure is associated with pleural recurrence but may be unrelated to overall recurrence-free survival in early lung cancer. Moreover, microscopic lymphatic invasion could be a risk factor for pleural recurrence. Purpose: Transthoracic needle biopsy (TTNB) is an established procedure in the management of pulmonary nodules. The most common complications are directly related to crossing the lung or visceral pleura during the biopsy. In this study, we describe the use of carbon dioxide instead of room air to create a protective "capnothorax" during TTNB.Materials and Methods: Five patients underwent creation of a capnothorax during TTNB. Parameters recorded were location and size of target, distance from pleura, length of procedure, volume of carbon dioxide, periprocedural complications and biopsy result.Results: Induction of capnothorax was successful in all cases. In two patients, a continuous infusion of carbon dioxide was required to maintain an adequate volume of intrapleural gas. In two patients, the carbon dioxide resolved spontaneously and in the remaining patients it was aspirated at the end of the procedure. All biopsies were diagnostic with no periprocedural or postprocedural complications.Conclusion: This study suggests that protective iatrogenic capnothorax is a safe and effective technique during TTNB. • This cohort study compared the diagnostic performance and complication rates of ENB and TTNB for diagnosing bronchus sign-positive pulmonary lesions following adjustments for multiple patient and lesion factors. • From multivariable analyses of 1,248 participants who underwent ENB or TTNB for a bronchus sign-positive pulmonary lesion with suspected malignancy, the modality choice (ENB or TTNB) did not significantly affect the diagnostic yield. • A patient-level 1:2 propensity score-matched comparison demonstrated a comparable diagnostic yield (85.0% vs. 89.9%, p = 0.124) and sensitivity (83.0% vs. 88.0%, p = 0.170) for ENB and TTNB following adjustments for multiple pre-procedural lesion factors. • For complications, using TTNB over ENB was associated with a higher risk of pneumothorax and pneumothorax requiring tube drainage. Electromagnetic navigation bronchoscopy (ENB) is an advanced technique for diagnosing peripheral pulmonary lesions, and the bronchus sign is a well-established factor for improving the diagnostic performance. However, ENB is a novel technology compared to the commonly adopted transthoracic needle biopsy (TTNB). There are limited data on the comparison of these techniques for diagnosing bronchus sign-positive lesions. Therefore, we aimed to compare the diagnostic yield and complication rates of ENB and TTNB for diagnosing lung cancer in bronchus sign-positive pulmonary lesions. We assessed 2,258 individuals who underwent either of the techniques for initial biopsy between September 2016 and May 2022 at a tertiary center in South Korea and analyzed 1,248 participants (153 ENB and 1,095 TTNB cases) with a positive bronchus sign. We performed multivariable logistic regression analyses to evaluate the factors associated with the diagnostic yield, sensitivity for malignancy, and procedure-related complications. In addition, the outcomes were compared between the two techniques after a 1:2 propensity score-matching to control for pre-procedural factors. After adjustments for clinical/radiological factors, performing TTNB over ENB was not significantly associated with a higher diagnostic yield but with a higher risk of pneumothorax (OR = 9.69, 95% CI = 4.15–22.59). Propensity score-matching resulted in 459 participants (153 ENB and 306 TTNB cases) with balanced pre-procedural characteristics. The overall diagnostic yield did not differ significantly between ENB and TTNB (85.0% vs. 89.9%, p = 0.124). The diagnostic yield (86.7% vs. 90.3%, p = 0.280) and sensitivity for malignancy (85.3% vs. 88.8%, p = 0.361) were comparable among patients with a class 2 bronchus sign. However, TTNB demonstrated a significantly higher complication rate of pneumothorax (28.8% vs. 3.9%, p < 0.001) and pneumothorax requiring tube drainage (6.5% vs. 2.0%, p = 0.034) than ENB. ENB demonstrated a diagnostic yield comparable with that of TTNB for diagnosing bronchus sign-positive peripheral pulmonary lesions with significantly lower complication rates. The goal of this study is evaluation of the safety and accuracy of ultrasonographic guided transthoracic needle biopsy for diagnosing peripheral lung mass."n"nMethods: In a descriptive and prospective study from September 2005, 30 patients with peripheral lung mass with greater than 3cm in diameter and less than 5cm distance through the chest wall, underwent ultrasonographic guided transthoracic needle biopsy and it's diagnostic accuracy and complications were analyzed."n"nResults: The male to female ratio was two to one, the average age of the patients was 61.2 years and 60% of the lesions were located in right side. Adequate biopsy specimens were obtained in all patients, but transthoracic needle biopsy was diagnostic in 86.6% and 13.3% patients because doubtful diagnosis, who underwent thoracotomy for definitive diagnosis. From these four (13%) patient who needed thoracotomy definitive diagnosis were organized embolism, granulomatouse tuberculosis, bronchoalveolar carcinoma, and metastatic adenocarsinoma. Pathological diagnosis were malignant lesion in 83.3% that squamouse cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma were the most common malignancies and benign lesions were found in 16.6% that granulomatouse tuberculosis was the most common lesion. Complications were observed in 13.3% that included pneumothorax (6.6%) and hemoptysis (6.6%) that managed medically. No cases of mortality were observed."n"nConclusion: Transthoracic needle biopsy with ultrasonographic guide due to appropriale diagnostic accuracy and low complication rate with low cost and availability is recommended for the diagnosis of peripheral lung mass.

Purpose: To compare the diagnostic performance of cone-beam CT (CBCT)-guided and CT fluoroscopy (fluoro-CT)-guided technique for transthoracic needle biopsy (TNB) of lung nodules.Methods: The hospital records of 319 consecutive patients undergoing 324 TNBs of lung nodules in a single radiology unit in 2009-2013 were retrospectively evaluated. The newly introduced CBCT technology was used to biopsy 123 nodules; 201 nodules were biopsied by conventional fluoro-CT-guided technique. We assessed the performance of the two biopsy systems for diagnosis of malignancy and the radiation exposure.Results: Nodules biopsied by CBCT-guided and by fluoro-CT-guided technique had similar characteristics: size, 20 ± 6.5 mm (mean ± standard deviation) vs. 20 ± 6.8 mm (p = 0.845); depth from pleura, 15 ± 15 mm vs. 15 ± 16 mm (p = 0.595); malignant, 60% vs. 66% (p = 0.378). After a learning period, the newly introduced CBCT-guided biopsy system and the conventional fluoro-CT-guided system showed similar sensitivity (95% and 92%), specificity (100% and 100%), accuracy for diagnosis of malignancy (96% and 94%), and delivered non-significantly different median effective doses [11.1 mSv (95 % CI 8.9-16.0) vs. 14.5 mSv (95% CI 9.5-18.1); p = 0.330].Conclusion: The CBCT-guided and fluoro-CT-guided systems for lung nodule biopsy are similar in terms of diagnostic performance and effective dose, and may be alternatively used to optimize the available technological resources.Key Points: • CBCT-guided and fluoro-CT-guided lung nodule biopsy provided high and similar diagnostic accuracy. • Effective dose from CBCT-guided and fluoro-CT-guided lung nodule biopsy was similar. • To optimize resources, CBCT-guided lung nodule biopsy may be an alternative to fluoro-CT-guided.
