We present the design, fabrication and characterization of polymer optical waveguides using a digital ultraviolet (UV) lithography. Grayscale optical exposure with a nonlinear compensation in quadratic form is applied to minimize the stitching loss of the transition zone between two adjacent subpatterns. Proximity effects in lithography process are compensated based on an exposure dose-map that is calculated under the approximation of scattered light pixel with a Gaussian distribution. The bending loss and propagation loss of the fabricated polymer waveguides are experimentally characterized to be around 0.1 dB/90-bend and 0.238 dB/mm, respectively. Moreover, 1 2 multimode-interference power splitter, 1 2 Y-branch power splitter and microring resonator are demonstrated to show the feasibility of the lithography technology on rapid fabrication of waveguides. Such a UV lithography technology flexibly manipulates huge-number light pixels for all-digital grayscale and dynamic optical exposure and thus can enable the fabrication of novel optical waveguide-based devices and sensors, such as 2.5D waveguides for multimode crossing and polymer waveguide devices for biosensing.

We investigated the impact of estrogen receptor (ER) expression in renal tubular epithelial cells on serum uric acid (UA) levels in premenopausal patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Thirty patients underwent renal biopsy: 18 with SLE (LN group) and 12 with IgA nephritis (IgAN group). ERs (ERα and ERβ) in renal tubular epithelial cells were measured using immunohistochemistry. The ER expression levels of the two groups were compared, and the relationship between the expression of ERs and serum UA levels was analyzed. Mean serum UA levels in the LN group were significantly higher than those of the IgA nephropathy group, while the mean creatinine levels and GFRs of the two groups were similar. Pathological changes in the LN group were significantly more severe than those in the IgAN group. ERβ was expressed in renal tubular epithelial cells in both groups, but not in the glomeruli. ERβ expression in the LN group was significantly lower than that in the IgAN group. ERβ expression scores significantly negatively correlated with serum UA levels. These findings suggest that the expression of ERβ in premenopausal female SLE patients may cause hyperuricemia, and may subsequently promote glomerular damage, suggesting that ERβ may be involved in UA excretion.

Firstly, according to the theoretical analysis, the force mechanism and failure modes were assured for the bond behavior between grout and steel rebar. Then, a pull-out experiment was exerted to probe the bond behavior developments of specimens after exposed to 500 °C. It is found that the mixed measures of pre-drying and slow elevating rate, i.e., 5 °C/min, inhibits the explosive spalling in grout with compressive strength of 76.7 MPa. In addition, there are two failure modes including the steel rebar fracture and the bond slip failure in the test. Based on the elevated temperature, compressive strength of post-fire grout, diameter of steel rebar and its embedment length, a new expression has been built to calculate the bond strength between grout and steel rebar of post-fire specimens. Furthermore, the finite element simulation is employed to investigate the bond behaviors of pull-out specimens after exposed to elevated temperatures up to 500 °C. The steel rebar fracture is captured firstly in the pull-out test simulation. Moreover, it is found that the peak slips increase and peak loads decrease along with the temperature elevating. Finally, it is proposed that the crucial elevated temperatures of the failure mode change should be 300, 300 and 400 °C for the specimens with embedment lengths of 6, 7 and 8 times diameter of steel rebar with diameter of 16 mm, respectively, which is beneficial for evaluating the fire safety of the existing structure elements.

Background: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) commonly occurs in premenopausal women and is associated with elevated estrogen levels. Patients with SLE may have abnormal serum triglyceride (TG) levels, and lipid reportedly promotes kidney damage in patients with nephrosis. Since estrogen regulates lipid levels, we investigated the serum lipid levels of premenopausal women with SLE and their relationship with proteinuria. Methods: This cross-sectional study included 123 premenopausal women with SLE (SLE group), who were classified into 24-h urine protein exceeding 0.5 g (24 h-UPRO > 0.5 g, n = 22) and 24 h-UPRO ≤ 0.5 g ( n = 101) subgroups, and 100 similarly aged healthy women (control group). Clinical characteristics and biomarker levels were compared between these groups. The associated factors of proteinuria over 0.5 g/day were evaluated using multivariate logistic regression. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was plotted to assess the cholesterol (CH) cut-off associated with increased development of proteinuria over 0.5 g/day. Results: The SLE group had significantly higher serum TG levels than that of control group. 24 h-UPRO were significantly correlated with serum creatinine, CH, TG, and uric acid levels. Serum CH level was the greatest associated factor for proteinuria over 0.5 g/day. The area under the ROC curve was 0.843, with a CH cut-off of 4.58 mmol/L. Patients with serum CH above 4.58 mmol/L had a higher proportion of type IV LN, but with no statistical difference. Conclusions: In premenopausal SLE patients, serum TG levels were higher than in healthy women, and serum CH levels were the primary associated factor for proteinuria over 0.5 g/day. Proteinura over 0.5 g/day may occur in women with SLE with serum CH levels >4.58 mmol/L. CH levels may be useful for predicting proteinuria.

Description, OLED arrays were fully 3D-printed under ambient conditions to produce a flexible information display technology., The ability to fully 3D-print active electronic and optoelectronic devices will enable unique device form factors via strategies untethered from conventional microfabrication facilities. Currently, the performance of 3D-printed optoelectronics can suffer from nonuniformities in the solution-deposited active layers and unstable polymer-metal junctions. Here, we demonstrate a multimodal printing methodology that results in fully 3D-printed flexible organic light-emitting diode displays. The electrodes, interconnects, insulation, and encapsulation are all extrusion-printed, while the active layers are spray-printed. Spray printing leads to improved layer uniformity via suppression of directional mass transport in the printed droplets. By exploiting the viscoelastic oxide surface of the printed cathode droplets, a mechanical reconfiguration process is achieved to increase the contact area of the polymer-metal junctions. The uniform cathode array is intimately interfaced with the top interconnects. This hybrid approach creates a fully 3D-printed flexible 8 × 8 display with all pixels turning on successfully.

Background Emerging evidence has demonstrated that acute kidney injury (AKI) is an important risk factor associated with increased morbidity and mortality in diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) patients. The current study aimed to investigate the incidence rate, risk factors, long-term renal outcomes, and mortality in DKA patients with AKI. Methods A total of 179 patients diagnosed with DKA at Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital from January 2012 to January 2018 were included in the analysis. AKI was diagnosed according to the 2012 KDIGO criteria. Risk factors, long-term renal outcomes, and mortality were analyzed by logistic regression and Cox proportional hazards models. Results Among 179 DKA patients, 98 patients (54.75%) were diagnosed as AKI. Aging; increased blood glucose, serum uric acid and white blood cells; decreased serum pH and albumin; coma; and preexisting chronic kidney disease (CKD) were risk factors of AKI in patients with DKA. During follow-up, DKA patients with AKI showed more than a two-fold decline in eGFR within 1 year after discharge from the hospital when compared with non-AKI DKA patients. Furthermore, AKI was also an independent risk factor for poor long-term renal outcomes and mortality in DKA patients. Conclusions Multiple risk factors contribute to the development of AKI in DKA patients. AKI and advanced AKI stage are associated with rapid progressive CKD and long-term mortality in patients with DKA.

Optical whispering-gallery-mode (WGM) microcavities offer great promise in ultrasensitive biosensors because of their unique ability to enable resonant recirculation of light to achieve strong light-matter interactions in microscale volumes. However, it remains a challenge to develop cost-effective, high-performance WGM microcavity-based biosensing devices for practical disease diagnosis applications. In this paper, we present an optofluidic chip that is integrated with directly-printed, high-quality-factor (Q) polymer WGM microlaser sensors for ultrasensitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Optical 3D μ-printing technology based on maskless ultraviolet lithography is developed to rapidly fabricate high-Q suspended-disk WGM microcavities. After deposition with a thin layer of optical gain material, low-threshold WGM microlasers are fabricated and then integrated together with optical fibres upon a microfluidic chip to achieve an optofluidic device. With flexible microfluidic technology, on-chip, integrated, WGM microlasers are further modified in situ with biomolecules on surface for highly selective biomarker detection. It is demonstrated that such an optofluidic biochip can measure horseradish peroxidase (HRP)-streptavidin, which is a widely used catalytic molecule in ELISA, via chromogenic reaction at the concentration level of 0.3 ng mL-1. Moreover, it enables on-chip optofluidic ELISA of the disease biomarker vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) at the extremely low concentration level of 17.8 fg mL-1, which is over 2 orders of magnitude better than the ability of current commercial ELISA kits.

Many patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) have lupus nephritis, one of the severe complications of SLE. We previously reported that CD8+CD103+ T regulatory cells induced ex vivo with transforming growth factor β (TGF-β) (iTregs) inhibited immune cells responses to ameliorate excessive autoimmune inflammation. However, the molecular mechanism(s) underlying the role of these CD8+ iTregs is still unclear. Here we identified that CD39, which is highly expressed on CD8+ iTregs, crucially contributes to the immunosuppressive role of the CD8+CD103+ iTregs. We showed that adoptive transfer of CD8+CD103+ iTregs significantly relieves the chronic graft-versus-host disease with lupus nephritis and CD39 inhibitor mostly abolished the functional activities of these CD8+ iTregs in vitro and in vivo. CD39+ cells sorted from CD8+CD103+ iTregs were more effective in treating lupus nephritis than CD39− partner cells in vivo. Furthermore, human CD8+ iTregs displayed increased CD103 and CD39 expressions, and CD39 was involved in the suppressive function of human CD8+ iTregs. Thus, our data implicated a crucial role of CD39 in CD8+CD103+ iTregs in treating lupus nephritis, and CD39 could be a new phenotypic biomarker for the identification of highly qualified CD8+ Tregs. This subpopulation may have therapeutic potential in patients with SLE nephritis and other autoimmune diseases., This work demonstrates that CD39 plays a key role on CD8+CD103+ induced T regulatory cells in treating lupus nephritis. Using a chronic graft-versus-host disease lupus nephritis model and a series of in vitro experiments, Zhang et al. showed that CD39 is an excellent marker to identify the suppressive activity of CD8+CD103+ cells.

BackgroundOropharyngeal administration of colostrum (OAC) may provide immunoprotective and anti-inflammatory effects that potentially reduce the incidence of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) and late-onset sepsis (LOS) and improve short-term outcomes.ObjectiveTo evaluate the role of OAC in the early prevention of NEC and LOS in preterm infants with gestational age (GA) ≤ 32 weeks.MethodsA randomized, placebo-controlled trial was conducted in a 40-bed tertiary neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in China. Preterm infants with GA ≤ 32 weeks were divided randomly into an OAC group, which received 0.4 ml maternal colostrum smearing via the oropharyngeal route every 3 hours for 10 days beginning within the first 48 hours after birth, and a control group, which received normal saline instead. Data from the two groups were collected and compared.ResultsA total of 127 patients in the OAC group and 125 patients in the control group were finally enrolled. The incidence of NEC (Bell stage 2 or 3) and LOS was lower in the OAC group [2.4% vs. 10.4%, χ2 = 6.845, ༰=0.009; 4.7% vs. 13.6%, χ2 = 5.983, ༰=0.014]. In addition, the incidence of intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) (stage 3 or 4) was lower [1.6% vs. 7.2%,χ2 = 4.775, ༰=0.029], and the time of achieving full enteral feeding was shorter [ 22.0 days vs. 25.0 days༌Z = 6༌424.500༌P = 0.009)] in the OAC group. BACKGROUND: To evaluate the value of programmed surgical nursing in laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy (LPD) and summarize the experience. METHODS: The clinical data of 80 patients who received LPD in Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital from January 2017 to December 2018 were analyzed retrospectively. A total of 40 patients were treated with traditional surgical nursing as the control group in the earlier stage. Afterwards, another 40 cases in the experimental group were treated using the surgical nursing program. Operation time, blood loss, and satisfaction of surgeons were analyzed. RESULTS: In all, 80 cases were successfully completed, and no significant difference was observed in the preoperative data statistics between these two groups (P>0.05). Secondary injuries are common during upper limb rehabilitation training because of uncontrollable physical force and overexciting activities, and long-time training may cause fatigue and reduce the training effect. This study proposes a wearable monitoring device for upper limb rehabilitation by integrating electrocardiogram and electromyogram (ECG/EMG) sensors and using data acquisition boards to obtain accurate signals during robotic glove assisting training. The collected ECG/EMG signals were filtered, amplified, digitized, and then transmitted to a remote receiver (smart phone or laptop) via a low-energy Bluetooth module. A software platform was developed for data analysis to visualize ECG/EMG information, and integrated into the robotic glove control module. In the training progress, various hand activities (i.e., hand closing, forearm pronation, finger flexion, and wrist extension) were monitored by the EMG sensor, and the changes in the physiological status of people (from excited to fatigue) were monitored by the ECG sensor. The functionality and feasibility of the developed physiological monitoring system was demonstrated by the assisting robotic glove with an adaptive strategy for upper limb rehabilitation training improvement. The feasible results provided a novel technique to monitor individual ECG and EMG information holistically and practically, and a technical reference to improve upper limb rehabilitation according to specific treatment conditions and the users&rsquo, demands. On the basis of this wearable monitoring system prototype for upper limb rehabilitation, many ECG-/EMG-based mobile healthcare applications could be built avoiding some complicated implementation issues such as sensors management and feature extraction.

Organic–inorganic hybrid metal halides with temperature-triggered responsive switchable dielectric properties have evoked great attention for their potential application in the field of optoelectronic information. Here, we present a new organic–inorganic hybrid metal halide switchable dielectric material, [(C3H5)2N(CH3)2]2SnCl6 (1), which is obtained by the reaction of diallyldimethylaminium chloride and tin(IV) chloride pentahydrate. Compound 1 exhibits excellent high-temperature switchable dielectric performance and antifatigue. Notably, 1 also exhibits multifunctionality with semiconducting and photoluminescence property. Such a Sn(IV)-based organic–inorganic hybrid with outstanding switchable dielectric, semiconducting, and photoluminescence characteristics will pave a new approach in the development of Sn(IV)-based metal halides with practical applications.

A precision photoreduction technology for the ultrafast high-precision light-controlled growth of silver nanoparticles for printing plasmonic color images is presented. Ultraviolet (UV) patterns with about a million pixels are generated to temporally and spatially regulate the photoreduction of silver salts to precisely create around a million clusters of distinct silver nanoparticles on a titanium dioxide (TiO2)-capped quartz substrate. The silver nanoparticle–TiO2–quartz structure exhibits a Fano-like reflection spectrum, whose spectral dip can be tuned by the dimension of the silver nanoparticles for plasmonic color generation. This technology allows the one-step production of multiscale engineered large-area plasmonic substrates without the use of either nanostructured templates or additional nanofabrication processes and thus offers an approach to plasmonic engineering for a myriad of applications ranging from structural color decoration to plasmonic microdevices and biosensors.

The Tiantang Cu–Pb–Zn polymetallic deposit in western Guangdong, South China, is hosted in the contact zone between the monzogranite porphyry and limestone of the Devonian Tianziling Formation. Orebodies occur in the skarn and skarnized marble as bedded, lenses, and irregular shapes. In this study, we performed LA-ICP-MS zircon U–Pb dating, zircon trace elements, and Hf isotopic analyses on the Tiantang monzogranite porphyry closely related to Cu–Pb–Zn mineralization. Twenty-two zircons from the sample yield excellent concordia results with a weighted mean 206Pb/238U age of 104.5 ± 0.7 Ma, which shows that the emplacement of the monzogranite porphyry in the Tiantang deposit occurred in the Early Cretaceous. The zircon U–Pb age is largely consistent with the sulphide Rb–Sr isochron ages, indicating that both the intrusion and Cu–Pb–Zn mineralization were formed during the Early Cretaceous in South China. Wearable sensing technologies have been developed rapidly in the last decades for physiological and biomechanical signal monitoring. Much attention has been paid to functions of wearable applications, but comfort parameters have been overlooked. This research presents a developed fabric temperature sensor by adopting fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors and processing via a textile platform. This FBG-based quasi-distributed sensing system demonstrated a sensitivity of 10.61 &plusmn, 0.08 pm/&deg, C with high stability in various temperature environments. No obvious wavelength shift occurred under the curvatures varying from 0 to 50.48 m&minus, 1 and in different integration methods with textiles. The temperature distribution monitored by the developed textile sensor in a complex environment with multiple heat sources was deduced using MATLAB to present a real-time dynamic temperature distribution in the wearing environment. This novel fabric temperature sensor shows high sensitivity, stability, and usability with comfort textile properties that are of great potential in wearable applications.

Microlenses have wide applications for light beam focusing or shaping in micro-optical systems. However, it remains challenging for conventional microfabrication methods to rapidly fabricate arrays of microlenses with complex profiles like lens-on-lens structures. In this paper, we present the rapid fabrication of polymer microlenses with lens-on-lens structures by using a digital optical μ-printing technology. An improved dynamic optical exposure method is developed to directly and precisely fabricate polymer top-lensed microlenses (TLMLs). Arrays of TLMLs with either elongated focal depth or two separate foci have been numerically investigated and experimentally demonstrated.

Late Jurassic to Early Cretaceous extensional structures are widespread in Northeast China and the eastern part of the Asian continent. The Yiwulushan ductile detachment shear zone, the master ductile detachment zone of the Yiwulushan metamorphic core complex (MCC), occurs in the northern North China Craton. This shear zone dips to the northwest on the western flank and to the southeast on the eastern flank of the MCC and consists of brittle faults, breccia, chloritized microbreccia, and ductile (mylonite) zones. The well-developed mylonitic foliation and stretching lineation are characterized by oriented minerals (quartz and feldspar) that exhibit ductile deformation, including undulose extinction, deformation bands, subgrain formations, and recrystallized grains. The shear indicators, such as asymmetric porphyroclasts, S-C fabrics, and shear bands, suggest consistent top-to-the-NW shear on both the western and eastern flanks of the MCC. Acoustic wave sensors with a high sensitivity and small size are highly desired for a wide variety of important and emerging applications such as photoacoustic gas sensing and bio-imaging. Here we present an ultracompact optical fiber acoustic sensor based on an optomechanical resonator that is directly in situ printed on the end face of a standard single-mode optical fiber by using an optical 3D μ-printing technology. The fiber-top optomechanical microresonator is composed of a microscale suspended polymer micro-disk that forms a Fabry–Perot interferometric cavity, together with the optical fiber end face, and acts as the acoustic wave-sensitive micromechanical resonator simultaneously. The microbeams for suspending the micro-disk are devised with a spiral structure to overcome the small-size imposed low deflection amplitude so as to improve its sensitivity to acoustic waves. The sensor with a high sensitivity of 118.3 mV/Pa and low noise equivalent acoustic signal level of 0.328 µ P a / H z 1 / 2 at audio frequency is experimentally demonstrated. Moreover, with a resonance amplification mechanism, the sensitivity can be enhanced by 40.1 times when the frequency of the acoustic wave matches with the natural resonance frequency of the optomechanical resonator. Such an ultrasmall fiber-tip acoustic sensor has not only a miniaturization-induced broad bandwidth, but also a structure-enhanced ultrahigh sensitivity and thus is very promising in various acoustic wave-based sensing, imaging, and testing applications.

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a fluoropolymer well known for chemical inertness and insolubility, as well as the extreme hydrophobicity that can be achieved. Nonetheless, those unique properties make PTFE difficult to process, PTFE components are usually fabricated from the powder, and later shaped using traditional machining processes. So, although 3D printing can provide flexibility, fast and economically production of on-demand parts, especially complex 3D geometries that are hard or impossible to fabricate by machining processes, attempts to introduce PTFE into 3D printing are extremely rare and difficult. Here, we report a 3D micro-printing (μ-printing) method based on digital ultraviolet (UV) lithography for fabrication of micrometer-scale 3D PTFE structures and investigate their superhydrophobic properties and applications. In this method, PTFE nanoparticles are dispersed in a photocurable solution of polyethylene glycol diacrylate (PEGDA) and then 3D printed into predefined microstructures by layer-by-layer UV projection exposures. Subsequent sintering process removes other polymer with relatively low decomposition temperature to leave pure PTFE microstructure. In the experiments, 3D PTFE microscaffolds for droplet lasers and electrostatic-driven biomimetic water striders have been demonstrated to show the wide applications of the micro/nano-structured superhydrophobic PTFE surfaces as well as the flexible microengineering ability of the 3D μ-printing method.

A new optical printing technology for the fabrication of polymer whispering-gallery-mode (WGM) microcavity lasers is presented. Polymer mushroom-like optical microresonators capped with a layer of dye-based gain film were demonstrated for WGM laser applications.

Guiding cell culture via engineering extracellular microenvironment has attracted tremendous attention due to its appealing potentials in the repair, maintenance, and development of tissues or even whole organs. However, conventional biofabrication technologies are usually less productive in fabricating microscale three-dimensional (3D) constructs because of the strident requirements in processing precision and complexity. Here we present an optical µ-printing technology to rapidly fabricate 3D microscaffold arrays for 3D cell culture and cell-scaffold interaction studies on a single chip. Arrays of 3D cubic microscaffolds with cubical sizes matching the single-cell size were fabricated to facilitate cell spreading on suspended microbeams so as to expose both apical and basal cell membranes. We further showed that the increasing of the cubical size of the microscaffolds led to enhanced spreading of the seeded human mesenchymal stem cells and activation of mechanosensing signaling, thereby promoting osteogenesis. Moreover, we demonstrated that the spatially selective modification of the surfaces of suspended beams with a bioactive coating (gelatin methacrylate) via an in-situ printing process allowed tailorable cell adhesion and spreading on the 3D microscaffolds.

Fiber electronic devices show advantages for the direct use as wearable and embedded device units or integrated textile modules. We successfully developed a coaxial-type flexible fiber supercapacitor by using NiCo 2 O 4 nanosheets grown on Ni wire as the fiber electrodes. The volume capacitance of the fiber-shaped supercapacitor reached 10.3 F/cm 3 at a current of 0.08 mA and outstanding cycling stability. An energy density of 1.44 mWh cm −3 and a power density of up to 17 W cm −3 were also obtained for the fiber supercapacitor, which are almost 48-fold higher than the previous values. Furthermore, the coaxial-type fiber supercapacitor does not show any apparent degradation in the bending test, illustrating the promise for use as electrodes for portable and wearable energy storage.

GaTe is an important layer-structured III–VI compound semiconductor with superior optical and electrical properties. In this paper, single-crystalline gallium telluride nanowires were successfully synthesized via a conventional chemical vapor deposition method. Single nanowire field-effect transistors revealed typical p-type semiconductor behavior of the GaTe nanowires, which showed substantial response to light irradiation with broad wavelengths ranging from 350 to 800 nm. Flexible photodetectors on a PET substrate were also fabricated with a high responsivity and an external quantum efficiency of 20.75 A W−1 and 3.96 × 103%, respectively. Besides, the flexible photodetectors showed excellent mechanical flexibility and stable electrical properties under different bending states, revealing promising applications in future flexible optoelectronic devices.

Information literacy is the basic quality that the college students in the information society should possess. It is an important standard for the high-quality talented person. In this paper, firstly, we analyze the connotation of information literacy, i.e., information consciousness, information knowledge, information ability and information ethics. Furthermore, we establish the frame of information literacy evaluation index. Finally, we investigate the current situation of information literacy among the college students in Xiangnan University by means of questionnaires. Then we put forward the methods to improve information literacy for the students according to the existing problems in this university.

With the help of enterprise resource planning (ERP),this paper puts forward university resource planning (URP). It illustrates the related concepts, features, and core technologies of wisdom campus. Aiming at some problems during constructing wisdom campus, and through effectively planning the university information resources by URP, it constructs the wisdom campus model based on URP. This model can provide reference for "wisdom campus" and promote the development of educational information.

Some 4-substituted-2-aminothiazoles were prepared starting from aromatic ketones and thiourea in the presence of powered iodine. Then treating 4-substituted-2-aminothiazole with substituted benzaldehyde gave corresponding 2-aminothiazole derives Schiff bases in good yield.
