This thesis tests the assumption that spatial methodologies may reveal deep underlying similarities in modernity across opposed political systems. In the USSR, the unexpected 'mis-use' of stadium spaces enabled fans to recast stadium space in ways meaningful to personal manifestations of fandom. Despite material deficiencies (which highlighted the gap between Soviet planning and reality), stadiums in Leningrad were not built to emulate those in the West, yet still often pre-empted their (post 1990s) western counterparts in form and function. As in the UK, Soviet footballers were semi-celebrity social elites. This thesis indicates that from the 1970s onwards, Soviet footballers' privileges were comparable to those enjoyed by other elite social groups and were used to facilitate private lifestyles and personal preferences in ways beyond dichotomies of resistance and oppression. By investigating and analysing the police management of football crowds in late-Soviet society, it is revealed that the militsiia was more dextrous than is usually claimed. Stadium crowds are also shown to have been central to official discourse on urban deviance, as one of the earliest officially recognised locations in which to find and to fight crime. Whilst existing scholarship neglects to analyse representations of football in the media sufficiently, this thesis demonstrates how Soviet mass mediation of football attempted to prescribe what fandom ought to look like. Concerns over specific fan disorders (hooliganism, drunkenness, violence) emerged as very real press concerns earlier than the existing historiography has previously suggested: Soviet footballers and fans underwent a similar level of scrutiny, from the early 1960s, as those in Britain had done at roughly the same time. By the early-to-mid 1980s, football fandom became a means for young people to disengage from Soviet society. But this thesis also demonstrates that the ability to act in accordance with their identities, rather than having to adjust constantly to a rigid set of state-prescribed norms facilitated the development of division and confrontation between rival fans, often based on perceived differences between citizens along ethno-national lines. Football was an important site for the construction and expression of the Soviet regime's ideological underpinnings, as well as of personal identity and a key aspect of Soviet work, leisure, cultural consumption and forms of masculinity. A lack of academic attention to football notwithstanding, this thesis establishes that football was an important confluence at which material space(s), citizens, and state structures interacted within the socialist city.

This paper analyses the essay entitled "The Word as a Principle" by Yvan Goll (1891-1950), published in Zenit (Issue 9, November 1921), which shows the non European tendency of Avant-garde poetics. In his text, Goll emphasises the need to create a new form of poetry quoting the verses of the Japanese poet Daigaku Horiguchi (1892-1981), one of the most important Japanese poets and translators of the last century. As the son of a distinguished diplomat, a rare bilingual poet among the Japanese at the time, he published poems in French and Japanese. After reviewing research on Zenit conducted in Japan so far, the first part of this paper determines the original text of the mentioned poem. In December 1921, Horiguchi published in Paris his first collection of Tankas in French. The foreword to it was written by the famous French poet Paul Fort (1872-1960). Goll, however, did not take it from there, but from the manuscript of his anthology Les Cinq Continents, which was published in Paris in 1922. The chosen song by Horiguchi is not traditional, but shows a new poetic spirit. Although it was written in five lines, which is reminiscent of the tanka form (5; 7; 5; 7; 7), the poet introduced a new topic: how the Japanese feel in a foreign country. In order to clarify the nature of Goll's connection with Horiguchi, a detailed description of Horiguchi's life is given, focusing on his stay abroad from 1911 to 1925. It can be seen from his biography that the meeting with the French painter Marie Laurencin (1883-1956) in Madrid in 1915 marked Horiguchi's poetic turn: his interest shifted from the poetics of symbolism to the Avant-garde, as the painter introduced him to Guillaume Apollinaire's (1880-1918) poetry. After staying in foreign countries (Mexico, Belgium, Switzerland, Spain, Brazil and Romania), when he returned to Japan in 1925, Horiguchi published the Crowd under the Moon anthology, which contains translations of French songs from Parnassians to Avant-garde poets, including Yvan Goll. Although no traces of their connection can be established, it is clear that they both felt poetically related and close, with mutual respect. Finally, Goll's understanding of Japanese poetry in the context of Avant-garde poetics is considered in comparison with Miloš Crnjanski's essay entitled "For Free Verse" (1922), which also mentions Japanese poetry. While Goll emphasises the simplicity and conciseness of Japanese poetry, Crnjanski points to the improvisation as its significant feature. While Goll is searching for new poetry that is in line with living fast in the high-tech society, Crnjanski sees the everlasting connection of man with nature, which Japanese poetry is all about.

One of the most important representatives of our culture in the 1920's is Ljubomir Micić, who connects a wide range of activities. His activity as the editor and founder of Zenit, poet, writer, critic, theorist, collector and organiser of exhibitions, attracted the attention of the world's avant-garde. Micić's project entitled Archipenko - the New Plastic, an album-monograph, appeared in Belgrade in 1923. The monograph had a print-run of 100 copies; it includes Archipenko's artistic opus until 1923 and represents one of the world's earliest, according to Zoran Markuš perhaps even the oldest monograph about sculptor Alexander Archipenko. An additional feature of this monograph is the cooperation between the writer and the world artist, because Archipenko himself participated in the preparation of this publication; he was the one to choose reproductions - 13 sculptures and 2 drawings. On this occasion, Micić wrote the introductory text, and according to Irina Subotić, it is a "manifesto of zenithist sculpture, seen through the optics of this sculptor's oeuvre". The introductory text is entitled Towards Optico-plastic, and Micić writes it in Belgrade on the 20th September. Here he introduces a new theoretical concept of optico-plastic, and in a specific literary way argues that Archipenko's art is one step towards optico-plastic, as he significantly defines a new style of absolute plasticity. Micić combines oculocentric aesthetics and optical illusionism dimension in the new concept, anticipating the third dimension which only eye can perceive. It is clear that Micić possessed the ability to anticipate, not only new concepts in the domain of theoretical and literary discourse, but also future world-renowned artists, even if they were just in their earliest artistic phases at the time. that Markuš What is of additional importance for this term is connects it with the term optical art, emphasising that optico-plastic, four decades earlier, anticipates the term op art. Archipenko exhibited his works in Belgrade in April 1924, as part of the First Zenit International Exhibition of New Art at the Stanković Music School. The international importance of the Zenit magazine, as well as the effects of the Archipenko-Micić cooperation, is evidenced by the fact that soon after the publication of the monograph, Archipenko sent an invitation to Zenit to join the International Society of New Artists in New York, led by Catherine Dreyer and Wassily Wassilyevich Kandinsky and whose one of the presidents was Marcel Duchamp (Henri-Robert-Marcel Duchamp). The lavish talent of these two artists, Alexander Archipenko and Ljubomir Micić, deserves continuous and additional research, as well as new interpretations of their joint work.

In January 1921, Svetokret, the first radical avant-garde magazine in the newly founded Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes, was launched in Ljubljana by Virgil Poljanski (1898-1947). This unique edition was a herald of Zenit (1921-1926), a mouthpiece of the ambitious zenitist movement, embodied by Poljanski's elder brother Ljubomir Micić (1895-1971). This article examines the dynamics of relations between the protagonists of the Slovenian interwar avant-garde and the leading zenitists, as documented in correspondence, newspaper reports, and, above all, in the magazine and publishing production of the avant-garde movements themselves. In the first phase, these relations revolved around Anton Podbevšek and his group, which had gathered around the Trije labodje magazine (The Three Swans, 1922), but cooperation remained limited. In the second, more productive phase, zenitist ideas were partially embraced by the group of Slovenian constructivists led by Avgust Černigoj and Ferdo Delak. Zenitism and its magazine were certainly an important source of information and inspiration for Slovenian avant-garde artists (e.g., the poet Srečko Kosovel) but, despite several attempts, the cooperation did not produce lasting results before Zenit was banned in 1926. In 1927, the Ljubljana-based Tank magazine, edited by the ambitious Delak and supported by Micić, tried to continue the zenitist legacy. Unfortunately, its existence was short-lived.

Hemp flour from Dacia Secuieni and Zenit varieties was added to bread in different proportions (5%, 10%, 15% and 20%) to improve its nutritional properties. The purpose of this paper was to present the advanced nutritional characteristics of these bread samples. The selected varieties of hemp, accepted for human consumption, met the requirements for the maximum accepted level of THC in seeds. The protein content of new products increased from 8.76 to 11.48%, lipids increased from 0.59 to 5.41%, mineral content from 1.33 to 1.62%, and fiber content from 1.17 to 5.84%. Elasticity and porosity decreased from 95.51 to 80% and 78.65 to 72.24%, respectively. K, Mg, Ca, P, Mn and Fe are the main mineral substances in bread with addition of hemp flour from the Dacia Secuieni and Zenit varieties. The total amount of unsaturated fatty acids in the bread samples with hemp flour ranged from 67.93 g/100 g and 69.82 g/100 g. Eight amino acids were identified, of which three were essential (lysine, phenylalanine, histidine). Lysine, the deficient amino acid in wheat bread, increased from 0.003 to 0.101 g/100 g. Sucrose and fructose decreased with the addition of hemp flour, and glucose has not been identified. The amount of yeasts and molds decreased in the first 3 days of storage. Regarding the textural profile, the best results were obtained for the samples with 5% addition. In conclusion, bread with the addition of hemp flour has been shown to have superior nutritional properties to wheat bread.

Zenit is a magazine started by Ljubomir Micić. The magazine was being published in Zagreb from 1921 to 1923, and after its relocation it continued to be published in Belgrade from 1924 to 1926. Since the launch of Zenit, Ljubomir Micić has been its editor-in-chief and publisher, Ivan Goll has collaborated as a co-editor from issues 8 to 12, while Boško Tokin, Rastko Petrović and Branko Ve Poljanski have participated for a short period of time. Through its activities and collaborations, Zenit was a medium of communication, transmission, exchange and dissemination of artistic ideas. The emergence of Zenit as an international magazine that published works by leading European avant-garde artists is an important avant-garde phenomenon in the area of former Yugoslavia. Zenit's large influence is reflected in the innovative typographic and visual solutions in the design of magazines, but also in the books and posters created under the auspices of Zenit, which represent a breakthrough in the domestic visual culture of that time. One of the innovations of the avant-garde in the 1920s was the general visual impression achieved by the visual identity, most manifested in the field of typography. A strong connection has been created between modern typography and visual art, which can easily be seen on Zenit's pages, which use new typographic solutions, but also on other Zenitist publications such as posters, leaflets, books, brochures and other publications. Awareness of the aesthetics and the importance of new means of communication has always been present and has only grown stronger over time. So, when we talk about Zenit's literary editions, these solutions are not limited to the front pages, but permeate the entire publication. And that's exactly what is the central topic of this thesis - the graphic design of Zenit magazine. A total of 43 issues of Zenit magazine were published, some of them in Latin and some in Cyrillic, however, they also contained original articles in foreign languages and were richly equipped with pictorial articles. How much Zenit was recognized, appreciated and how important it was is shown by the many connections and collaborations it has made over the years, especially beyond its geographical borders.

This article deals with the access to technological infrastructures, focusing on the experience of Zenit-Scientific and Technological Park that is linked to the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with Park leaders and managers of six technology-based companies, as well as documental research and non-systematic observation. The main results reveal that the Park has the University's infrastructure, privileges its availability to academic “spin-offs” with sustainable projects. In addition, access to technological resources (material and cognitive) depends on the financial capacity, cooperation and negotiation of companies that react differently to the rules of distribution of infrastructure resources. Therefore, the novelty offered by this research is the fact that there is a variation between the companies in the same Science and Technology Park with regard to access to technological infrastructures, taking into account their different capacities and abilities. These new data make it possible to relativize the usual formulations of specialized literature that tends to treat this access as if it were homogeneous.

- Abstract
This thesis analyses theories of science expressed in Swedish publications grounded in leftist academia, and left-wing student circles, Zenit and Häften för kritiska studier [Notes on Critical Studies] during the years of 1967-1969. Based in constellation research constructed by philosopher Dieter Henrich, the essay reconstructs two separate constellations in leftist academia at the time: the Althusserian constellation respectively the revisionist constellation. The analysis shows that the two constellations mutually sprung out of the New Left which arose in the 1960s, and shared a critique of the positivistic theory of science dominating academia at the time. Impacted by the philosophy of Louis Althusser, the publication Zenit started emphasizing science as having a status of objectiveness, in contrast to the theory of science held by the revisionists. This prompted a second phase of debates for the two constellations, as theory of science was regarded by both constellations as being of not just scientific importance, but as well of great political bearing. The essay concludes that the critique against established academia was vital in challenging a fixed theoretical dogma regarding the view, and the practices, of science – but that the debate between the two constellations soon ended up in a frozen conflict with closed positions.

Abstract: The ESA space debris population model MASTER (Meteoroid and Space Debris Terrestrial Environment Reference) considers firings of solid rocket motors (SRM) as a debris source with the associated generation of slag and dust particles. The resulting slag and dust population is a major contribution to the sub-millimetre size debris environment in Earth orbit. The current model version, MASTER-2005, is based on the simulation of 1076 orbital SRM firings which contributed to the long-term debris environment. A comparison of the modelled flux with impact data from returned surfaces shows that the shape and quantity of the modelled SRM dust distribution matches that of recent Hubble Space Telescope (HST) solar array measurements very well. However, the absolute flux level for dust is under-predicted for some of the analysed Long Duration Exposure Facility (LDEF) surfaces. This points into the direction of some past SRM firings not included in the current event database. The most suitable candidates for these firings are the large number of SRM retro-burns of return capsules. Objects released by those firings have highly eccentric orbits with perigees in the lower regions of the atmosphere. Thus, they produce no long-term effect on the debris environment. However, a large number of those firings during the on-orbit time frame of LDEF might lead to an increase of the dust population for some of the LDEF surfaces. In this paper, the influence of SRM retro-burns on the short- and long-term debris environment is analysed. The existing firing database is updated with gathered information of some 800 Russian retro-firings. Each firing is simulated with the MASTER population generation module. The resulting population is compared against the existing background population of SRM slag and dust particles in terms of spatial density and flux predictions. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

- Abstract
It is well know that the Sun position, measured over the heart surface is a function of the latitude and the hour of a particular day. Usually, the Sun follows a different path from one day to the next, and this is determined by the azimuth and zenith angles. The analytical calculations for determining the angular position at any time (solar hour) are an overwhelming task. We use the Mathematica® software to write a home code for determining at any time (in intervals of one minute) and latitude, the azimuth and zenith angles of the Sun for every day of the year. In order to show general results of interest, in this work we present the annual distribution of the angular positions and the length of the day (hours of light) for the 21 degrees of latitude. This information could be used for optimizing the orientation of solar panels and collectors and for the design of cheap houses where the walls can be exposed to the minimal solar incidence., Peer Reviewed

[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
This thesis examines the relation between politics and science in Sweden during the era of political radicalization in the sixties and seventies. Rooted in the Bourdieuan tradition of cultural sociology the main analysis focuses on relations between different cultural fields. Studying social movements and the political debate as well as the scientific fields makes it possible to identify habitus and strategies that formed the radical student generation. In addition to efforts to understand the historical background of the radicalisation, like the changes within the Education system and the general tendencies of the political debate, certain parts of the Swedish student movement are studied in-depth, like Unga filosofer in Stockholm and other autonomous groups organizing students and young teachers at the university departments. Of particular interest are the collective struggles to gain influence within the academic structures and the alternative forms of education that were initiated in the late sixties and early seventies. Since the young generation of radical academics were not prone to follow the traditional paths – the established order of succession – they had to find ways to compensate for the academic capital that they renounced by challenging their professors or other influential actors. To understand how this came to effect the Social Sciences and Humanities – or in this case more precisely the fields of philosophy, sociology and literary criticism – the other studies focus on analysing three politically motivated projects that were formed at intersections between a movement-context and academia: the first centred on the critique of positivism, the second engaged in the development of the ideas of scientific socialism – inspired by the reception of the philosophy of Louis Althusser – and the third a later feminist project that evolved in the field of literary criticism with the reception of Julia Kristeva’s theories. During the interwar period artist Vjera Biller participated in some of the most interesting events that were happening all across Europe. She presented her work for the first time as a teenager in 1918 in Budapest at the "MA exhibition of graphic art" together with the leading protagonists of Hungarian avant-garde. While living in Berlin in the early 1920s she was close to the circle of Herwarth Walden and participated in several exhibitions in his Der Sturm gallery. During the 1920s and 1930s she exchanged letters with Ljubomir Micić, the editor of the avant-garde magazine "Zenit", who exhibited and published her work (1924, 1926). Although today the majority of her oeuvre is lost and only a small number of prints and drawings from the 1920s have been preserved, it reveals Vjera Biller's interests, artistic sensibility for stylization of form and a special type of visual narration. The paper will consider the work of Vjera Biller in the context of the international avant-garde movement and as an example of networking principle that marked the most progressive art currents of the period.

This is comprehensive monograph dedicated to the Zenit periodical —avant-garde magazine initially founded in Zagreb in 1921, which, after short and furious life and 43 numbers, ended in Belgrade five years later. The book is a sublimation of more than twenty years of mutual work of art historian Irina Subotić and literature historian Vidosava Golubović, who dedicated a great part of their professional work to the topic. The book systematically explores Zenit in the context of political and social turmoil in the 1920s Europe. As the offspring of cultural atmosphere which generated diversity of avant-garde movements — from expressionism and constructivism, to surrealism — Zenit has become basically related to issues of cultural restitution, resurgence of culture and identity, and creative sublimation commonly shared by diverse avant-gardes of the time.

Sea Launch modified its maiden launch plans, opting instead to conduct a demonstration launch in March 1999 using an inert payload. The company originally planned to use a 'live' payload, the Hughes Galaxy 11 spacecraft, for its first mission, but a series of mishaps, including a failure of a Zenit booster, prompted a re-consideration. The demonstration launch will use a three-stage Zenit that will be fired from a location near the equator to deliver the 'simulated' payload into orbit. The simulated payload will fly to simulate a Galaxy 11 mission profile.

Loral Globalstar, a joint venture of Loral Space & Communications and Qualcomm, lost 12 satellites aboard a failed Ukrainian/Russian Zenit rocket on Sep. 10, 1998. The Zenit mishap puts into question Boeing's Sea Launch program, which also employs Zenit. The unprecedented commercial space launch debacle, which destroyed 25% of the planned 48-satellite constellation, will significantly affect the company's plan to compete with Motorola's Iridium program. Each of the satellite cost $15.5 million for a total spacecraft loss of $186 million, although the loss is fully insured, including Zenit launch costs. Meanwhile, the accident is the second in four launches of the Zenit.

General interest ,News, opinion and commentary ,Zenit - Abstract
The race to provide a global mobile phone service suffered a setback yesterday, when the Zenit rocket crashed on launch from Kazakhstan, destroying 12 space bound satellites. The rocket was the first of six launches planned by the US-based Globalstar consortium, in which the UK company Vodafone is a partner. The US 15mn satellites were insured. The Globalstar project is likely to be delayed some months, although its rival Iridium is also facing delays owing to technical problems. The ICO group, in which British Telecom is an investor, is also due to start launching satellites before the end of 1998.

S and P cited the almost $200 million in extra financing Globalstar will required by the end of the first quarter of 1999 to finish its low-Earth orbit constellation and include operating losses.
