Abstract

The article discusses the creation of a motion microscope by researchers Hao-Yu Wu, John Guttag, and Eugene Shih which amplifies tiny movements made by people and objects imperceptible to normal vision. Topics include the microscope's use of a video camera to amplify color changes in video pixels to identify motion and the potential use of the magnified movements to detect health indicators, such as change in pulse or blood flow, and safety problems, such as abnormal vibrations in machinery.
