Abstract

During the last half of the 20th century games have taken on an important role as a learning methodology in university studies. Most of the research in this field has focused on computer games; however literature regarding games that don't use computers is still very scarce. In the experience described in this paper we have created a cooperative team tournament game without computers in which students do not compete against each other but target on achieving a score. Besides, it does not require neither structured teams nor having the same number of players. Our findings indicate that teams games tournamenst improve the development of students' general skills and substantially increases their academic performance. The immediate consequence is that we have a new, more versatile game format that overcomes the limitations of its precedents when applied to university studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
