Abstract

Crystal-clear digital radio was set to hit America this September— but the technology has run into trouble. The US National Radio Systems Committee (NSRC) has decided that the system's sound quality is not good enough to broadcast. As a result, the NRSC has suspended its digital radio standards-setting process. iBiquity Digital of Columbia, Maryland planned to use a technology called in-band, on-channel broadcasting that squeezes both the analogue radio and the digital radio signals into the frequencies used by AM and FM channels.
