Abstract

The article examines how several acts of terrorism over the previous five years have been allegedly inspired by Anwar Awlaki, an American-born imam and member of the terrorist organization Al Qaeda killed by a U.S. drone strike in 2011. It discusses how Awlaki helped recruit members to Al Qaeda, mainly through his English-language communications, and how he continues to be viewed as a martyr for jihadists. Connections to the 2015 massacre at the offices of journal "Charlie Hebdo' in Paris, France are also covered.
