Abstract

In recounting their experiences and significations around sexual pleasure, the gay men in Mexico City outlined a masculinity highly valued in erotic terms, but different in terms of identity. The masculinity of others is desired, but it is also the limit for to produce the own identity. An hyperbolic virility, sexually saturated, but distant in subjective and social terms, is objectified and fetishized. Thus, the masculinity of the others is a way to eroticize the class relations: theothers are working-class and virile, far away of the gay sociability circuits. Gay men cross their social spaces in search of these men, delineating subjectives and erotics paths through of a city structured around social inequality and ethnic and racial differences. The pursuit of pleasure is also a journey into the social and sexual difference. In this article we develop these narratives, using discussion groups of a qualitative research among gay men of different ages living in the Mexico City. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
