Abstract
- The article discusses how the European Constitution and the Japanese Act Concerning Protection of Personal Information categorize privacy and data protection as a right while the U.S. does not according to the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), and how this impacts the U.S., European, and Japanese approach to data protection. Topics include how U.S. President Barack Obama is working to change the U.S. self regulatory policy towards Internet data collection with a proposed Consumer Privacy Bill of Rights (CPBR), how the collective memory of state surveillance under the Nazis impacted Europe's privacy laws, and how Japan oversees what businesses can do with collected consumer data.
