Abstract

We demonstrate a low-cost, fast and facile seeded growth method to synthesize ultra-fine Pt-porous ZnO nanoribbon hybrid materials with remarkably enhanced catalytic performances. The experimental results confirm that bio-molecule l-lysine is very important in the synthesis. Firstly, it modifies the ZnO surface, causing it to be electropositive, and secondly, it is found that it also plays the role of structure-directing agent, inducing the formation of 1D ZnO nanoribbons. For the catalytic applications of CO oxidation and the photo-degradation of organic dyes, such Pt–ZnO hybrid nanoribbons exhibit remarkably enhanced catalytic properties compared with the classical rod-like Pt–ZnO hybrids.
