Material Poetics and the ‘Communication Event’.

The article presents a theory of material poetics, along with a discursive framework for artworks at a crossover between poetry and text-based art. It is inferred that the theory and framework extends to account for the meaning-making potential inherent in the act of communication, including reading, listening, and writing. The scheme of the speech event, introduced by Roman Jakobson, is applied to understand material poetics.
