Abstract

The Palestinian American Congress, a grassroots organization whose goal is to unite the American-Palestinian community, commemorated the 55th anniversary of alNakba, the day of Palestinian dispersal, with an art exhibit on May 18, 2003 and a panel discussion at the Rutgers University Newark, New Jersey campus. Although born in the U.S., Rajie Cook's roots are in Ramallah, where both his parents were born. After making many trips to the area as part of the Presbyterian Church's Task Force for the Middle East, he retired from a successful career as a graphic designer and turned to sculptural assemblage as a way of expressing his concern for the Palestinian situation. Cook's works are moving and disturbing.
