The late 19th century art in Western Europe was marked by Art Nouveau, or Secession on the territory o f the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. Certainly this movement is extremely important for Europe, as well as for the entire World, with exceptional importance. At the same time, due to its size, other aesthetics that were his contemporary are rarely mentioned. The paper draws attention to the traditional Islamic calligraphy, which was present during the Austro-Hungarian period in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This calligraphy, though it never had the opportunity to be present in all the Monarchy, has a high aesthetic quality. After finding concrete examples it isobvious presence of the active calligraphers and organized schools of calligraphy. The main aim of this paper is to encourage art historians and art theorists to give more space on research Islamic art in the history o f art of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
