Estimated amount of pesticides that Americans dump and spray on their gardens, lawns, forests, pastures, farms, lakes and rivers; Indication that major pesticides persist for years in the soil and atmosphere; Results of a governmental probe on herbicides by Senator Philip Hart's environmental subcommittee; Agriculture Department officials' refusal to take any action against the herbicide 2,4,5-T which is used on range and pasture-land.
