Abstract

Comments on the political ideologies promoted by the New Left in the United States. Question on the meaning when the Left seemingly no longer yearns for power but seemingly exalts powerlessness; Issue on the style of existentialist issue orientation of the New Left; Daniel Moynihan's article in "The Public Interest" called "The Professionalization of Reform"; Conflict between the New Left and Moynihan's argument that professional reformers henceforth will resolve the more primitive social issues of American politics; Author's observation that those which actually seize and retain power always end up as strong as or stronger than the order they overthrew.
