It may be an indicator of the need of a refuge to deal with the traumatic events, a way of denying responsibility for those events, or a sinister instrument of power aimed at guaranteeing the effectiveness of those who perpetrate violence, neutralizing social responses, and marginalizing potential reactions from the victims. The article highlights the resources contributed by psychoanalysis, artistic creation, and, especially, the legitimizing efforts of justice to palliate the iatrogenic effects of indifference.
