Abstract

This paper focuses on the political interpretations of structuralism from the point of the view of the incongruous comparison between Marxism and Buddhism by anthropologist Claude Lévi-Strauss in the final pages of "Tristes Tropiques". Religions including Islam, Christianity and Buddhism are used as metaphors to analyze diffusion, familiarity, differentiation and dissolution of cultures. Topics include Social transformation and different levels of the structuring of modern social reality.
