Abstract: Environmental industry sources say that Idaho Governor Dirk Kempthorne is at the top of the short list to succeed Christine Todd Whitman as Environmental Protection Agency administrator after her June 27 resignation. Considered a consensus builder on many issues when he served one term in the Senate from 1993 to 1998, Kempthorne chaired the drinking water subcommittee.
