Abstract
- The article reports on a study which shows that genes connected with resistance to malaria are also involved to susceptibility to type 1 diabetes (T1D). It explores the common disease of modern populations that links to the genetic polymorphisms involved in adaptation to malaria endemia. It also considers two genetic systems in immune functions and compares the genetic differences between the malarial endemia in the lowlands and highlands of Sardinia, Italy.
