The article presents a historical perspective on risk of infection facing health-care workers (HCW) during the provision of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to patients with Ebola virus disease. Topics covered include the duty of physicians to treat in the face of perceived or actual HCW risk, the value of personnel safety and simulation-based training, and protocols implemented at the U.S. National Institutes of Health aimed to reduce HCW risk.
